I know you all love these ones! My daughter is due in February, and she is, so far, nameless. By this stage, ds had had his name for ages, but am finding a girl's name much more of a challenge. I want something reasonably distinctive, with some history to it, and perhaps a little glamour too.
Dh has sternly vetoed my first choice, Angelica. His favourite names are Frances and Olivia, which I like....but are they 'the one'.
Other names in the frame include Nina, Edith, Livia, Lucy, Elizabeth, Catherine, Phoebe, Mia and Viola.
Any more for any more?

lol aloha!
the worst girls name I've ever heard is .... Tegwyn. Really sorry if any of you have it, but an uglier arrangement of ugly syllables I've never come across!

you can't use Lila, everyone will think you've copied Kate Moss! not cool.

popsycal · 10/11/2004 20:17

ah - kate moss has a lila...???

onlyjoking9329 · 10/11/2004 20:40

i love reannon, leigh, abbey, bethan, maddie and franchesca

mykidsmum · 10/11/2004 20:44

only joking I have twins Abbey and Maddie short for Abigail and Madeline, I also have a Dylan named after Bob Dylan and a Joshua

vict17 · 10/11/2004 20:46

I love Flora but not sure my dh does. If ds had been a girl she would have been Freya or Bethan.

onlyjoking9329 · 10/11/2004 20:47

and i have twins called abbey and bethan, plus a son elliot joel

mykidsmum · 10/11/2004 20:48

Love the names only joking twins are hard in that you have to find names that compliment eachother. Elliot is lovely too

bubbly · 10/11/2004 20:55

I like Agnes and Dorothy (Dolly) and all the Victorian ones - some great names here though wish this had been around when I was naming mine way back when.

lou33 · 10/11/2004 21:05

ahhhhhhhhhh, I must have missed that you were having a girl, ohhhhhhhhh, feel all overcome! I knew you were expecting of course but not that it is a girl, how lovley!

Well out of the names you have listed I love Phoebe the very best, and then livia, but if i was her mum i'd probably called Livvy which I love.

The other name I've always loved, but probably will never pick for my own for some strange reason, is Ruth. Just loved it since I was little and read the naghtiest girl in the school books.

lou33 · 10/11/2004 21:15

ds2 may well have been a willow.

merryberry · 10/11/2004 21:28

Imogen?
Meredith?
Nadine?

Demented · 10/11/2004 21:31

I like Inez, Freya, Isla, Maisie and Skye. I find boys names easier too but probably because I have two boys already.

Rowlers · 10/11/2004 21:44

Congrats on having a girl! Girls are just great. So you like Angelica? I had a friend at Uni called Angelina. Always liked that name and she was fab too. Only problem was it always made me think of Thumbelina...
My DD was nameless until she was around 5 days old. Had lots of maybes but wanted to make sure we'd got it right. I think her name is now pretty popular unfortunately but I still really like it.
This is making me want to go through it all again. Did I really just say that? I must be mad...

Demented · 10/11/2004 21:51

Also Eilidh.

nightowl · 11/11/2004 02:54

well only two ive seen here which were on my shortlist, mia and angelina...both really pretty names i thought. didnt suit dd though who was without name for a week after birth...poor child!

Discomonkfish · 11/11/2004 09:08

What do you think of Samantha?

aloha · 11/11/2004 11:16

Righty-ho - will type up full list of all names for dh's perusal. We will then discuss endless, wander about the house muttering, 'Viola. Viola? Nina? Edith? Edie....Edie McCready" to ourselves like mad people and come to no firm conclusion. It's a kind of masochistic pleasure. Got hopelessly giggly suggesting things like "Dingbat" to each other the other night. Poor mite.
And thanks for all the congratulations. Ds has had an amazing turnaround from previous lack of interest and now says, "Good night mummy, goodnight baby sister" every night, which melts my heart. Also, he 'read' the whole of Bear Hunt to her in my tummy the other night.

Congrats Aloha! Just found this thread and thought I would add a few suggestions as I'm sure to blessed with all boys. I have a long list and many of them are here but these are a few that haven't been mentioned:

Sally - so classic but not heard very often anymore, Maude - feminine and strong, Susie, Lillian (Lily), Philippa, Morgan and another vote for Maeve. I always think of the quote from Romeo and Juliet that goes something like 'Maeve, she is the fairies midwife.'

PuffTheMagicDragon · 11/11/2004 20:47

I like Evangeline (can be shortened to Evie).

JanH · 11/11/2004 21:01

Haven't read any of the others but a vote for Frances here, aloha

JanH · 11/11/2004 21:03

Has anyone mentioned Felicity? I know 2 Felicitys and they are both the sweetest personalities.

Demented · 11/11/2004 21:10

I love Sophie as well.

beansmum · 11/11/2004 21:13

bean was going to be Elizabeth if he was a girl, love that name. also Charlotte or Emily, although my next dog is going to be called Emily
