Thanks for the new thread. Got my early scan today. Pretty nervous

curiouscat1987 · 22/10/2020 09:20

@lucieloos

Checking in....is anyone having a nipt test done? I can't decide between harmony or panorama?
I am, but at this point it's mostly to confirm sex - although if the nhs tests come back higher risk then we'd have done this test too anyway, so I guess 2 birds, 1 stone :) Booked with the scanning room at 10 1/2 weeks, which also worked out well as first nhs scan isnt until almost 13 weeks!
bestsquirrelinthewholehole · 22/10/2020 10:35

I am not going to find out the sex, anyone else having a surprise? I know it's quite commonplace for people to find out before birth now.

@bestsquirrelinthewholehole We are leaving it a surprise too. I'm hoping it will keep me excited/motivated while I'm going through the worst pain of my life... Hahaha.

bestsquirrelinthewholehole · 22/10/2020 10:40

@mumtobemaz it really does, this will be my 4th, I found out on my first and it was a really deflating moment. So with the other two they were surprises and its an amazing experience looking down and discovering what's been inside you for 9months!!

Coffee4me · 22/10/2020 11:55

Yes I've booked NIPT on private. Midwife told me before if I'm having it done, then let know at NHS 12 scan as they don't do the screening, as NIPT is more accurate anyways. I'm also older so higher risk sp doing it for screening purposes.

We'll probably find out gender, I'm not very good waiting for surprises 😁

Hayz2020 · 22/10/2020 12:36

Hi all, checking into the nee thread! I’m 7+2 now and completely bed bound with HG. I have been prescribed meds so hoping they start working.
I have a question RE birth place? My booking in meeting with the midwife, she has put place of birth as my local hospital, and keeps telling me the hospital, I’ve said a few times I don’t want to have a hospital birth and would like to look into a birth centre or Homebirth.
Who do I tell this to? That will record me and put me in the right places when giving birth? I don’t want to be shoe horned into a hospital birth unless medically necessary. Thank you (this is my first baby)

Hayz2020 · 22/10/2020 12:37

And also, I won’t be finding out gender, looking forward to the surprise :)

Sophc21 · 22/10/2020 13:02

Hi all! Hope its okay to join! I'm around 4wks 2days today and pretty (very) nervous too! Had a few multiple chemical pregnancies before this one so terrified of having another! I'm feeling more positive this time as my boobs have been incredibly sore last couple weeks and my test was really dark..(I think) compared to the others when I lost them early on. I'm going to book a early scan in november but the last one I had before this pregnancy i went and they didn't see anything on the screen and then I bled when I got home so terrified of it happening all over again! Confused

We have booked an NIPT test for 11 weeks, mainly for reassurance. Won’t be finding out gender though - we both want a surprise!

Minglejingle83 · 22/10/2020 13:30

@Justbee84
I think we are similar, I have been ttc for about 6yrs, didn’t do IVF though, just gave up hope & all of a sudden it just happened! I’m worried that where it has taken so long it may affect it. I think my due date will be around the same time as yours Smile

Happy2be · 22/10/2020 14:27

Just popping up on the new thread. If anyone wants to join the private facebook group then send me your email and ill get the invite sent. Dont worry if not 😊 theres a lot of girls sticking with MNs too ❤️

scrambledeggy · 22/10/2020 14:40

In case anyone is (like me) worried about loss of symptoms: my boob soreness disappeared around 7 weeks, leading me to book a private scan. Had it today and everything looks fine!

My purse is crying from the cost, though 😂 Speaking of, the clinic gave me a leaflet for the Harmony test, and it's hundreds and hundreds of ££! I hope those of you who are getting it can access it cheaper, no way do I have that kind of cash 😬

milly159 · 22/10/2020 15:03

Hi Ladies
I hope I can join you all?
My little one is due 13 June after 3 years of trying on and off. we are delighted. I had my son 12 years ago so I'm crazy starting all over again LOL

Anyway has anyone got any tips on what can help with nausea - I feel constantly sick but am not all the time... its sucking the life out of me hahaah
I'm trying ginger nut biscuits as ginger helps apparently, i haven't tried ginger tea as it has lemongrass which is harmful to the baby, so any tips would be greatly appreciated as im gonna have weeks of this I think!

Penny2020 · 22/10/2020 15:23

Great news @scrambledeggy! So happy for you.
Welcome to all the newbies!

thefishthatcouldwish · 22/10/2020 15:35

I think I had morning sickness this morning.

All of a sudden out of nowhere sick. Never had sickness like that before.

This is very useful to know, we are super curious but I know I'll be a teeny bit disappointed if we have a scan and it's not the gender I want (which is ridiculous because all that matters is it's healthy) whereas when it comes out we'll love whatever it is. So think will learn from your example!

Catladyy · 22/10/2020 15:54

@bestsquirrelinthewholehole ah ok quite similar then. I spoke to my GP this morning and she said they probably wouldn't be in touch until around 9 weeks. Feels like it might as well be 9 years. I am going to ring and hassle them if we don't hear anything by 8 weeks I think, definitely want the scan done before xmas! I'm in East London, how about you? Sounds like there is a huge amount of variation.

bestsquirrelinthewholehole · 22/10/2020 16:17

@catladyy I am south west

Thank you @Penny2020 ! Hello to all newcomers ☺️ To those who are experiencing sickness, I'm finding that sipping boiled water that has been cooled a bit quite soothing. A week ago I'd have said nibbling cheese, but I've now swung the other way and gone right off it 🤢

Hope you feel better soon @Hayz2020. And good luck with your scan @MrsV2018.

I had my GP-based booking appointment today over the phone (around 8 weeks) and am off to a bigger clinic next week to get my blood tests done.

MrsV2018 · 22/10/2020 16:35

@scrambledeggy thank you so much. It went really well. Got to see a heartbeat which was amazing. So far so good. Have my booking in appointment on Tuesday. It's all starting to feel real. Glad your scan went well too.
@thefishthatcouldwish my nausea came on all of a sudden as well. And it's all day. I've been told to try different things and find something that works. Ginger is meant to be good but cheese has worked for me so far

PinkPlantCase · 22/10/2020 17:32

@Hayz2020 I was planning on a home birth too also a first time mum. I don’t have a date for my booking appointment yet (It will happen at some point before the scan apparently 😂) but that was then I was planning on telling the midwife then.

Does you area have a dedicated home birth service? Mine does and I think that will make the process easier as I think that once you express an interest they pass you over to the home birth team for all your later midwife appointments.

It’s not okay if the midwife is just ignoring your choices though! Hope it gets resolved for you.

bestsquirrelinthewholehole · 22/10/2020 18:02

I had a home birth last time, as Labour fast. Am hoping for the same again this time. It was an amazing experience.

Humpty11 · 22/10/2020 18:10

Hey everyone, I hope everyone’s doing okay and all the nausea isn’t causing too much bother!
This is probably a stupid question but google isn’t helping me.. I’m not sure how to work out how many weeks I am (I know my 12 week scan will determine this anyway but I’m too impatient to wait that long to know if I can work it out for myself!)
My LMP was 4/9 but I had spotting for two days prior to this which is unusual so did it actually start on the 2/9? Also my cycles were only 25 days so will this affect how many weeks I am too? I can’t work it out with my tired brain and I’m just getting more confused 🤯. I’ve found the nhs pregnancy calculator but it doesn’t help with when my period started. I don’t want to sound stupid when I see the midwife next Tuesday 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

Humpty11 · 22/10/2020 18:14

Oh and just to confuse things even more I didn’t get my peak on my ovulation Until 18th and then had pains 21st - does this affect anything? I know I’m massively overthinking all of this 🤦🏼‍♀️
