Oh god @Sheera1 rant away! It sounds infuriating. You really don't need a manchild in the equation! Maybe worth having a chat with him? If you haven't already of course.

Re the section, yeah I get the odd fear now and again. I mean I have done it twice before so I know what to expect but being older and more wise to what could go wrong, I'm not quite as chilled as I was when I was in my 20's!

Good idea to be prepped for your consultation next week. Ask as many questions as you can to put your mind at ease a little.

I watched the c-section video from the trust website today. It made me cry! They put you in these 'kangacare' wraps so they can stuff the baby in there once they're born, we never had that with my DC so its a nice addition. Also they talk a lot about leaving the cord to pulsate for a minute before clamping which I wanted anyway but thought I'd have to ask for.

DP watched it after me and he said it terrified him Grin He said it was good to watch though. Gotta be hard for a first time daddy, especially one who is a natural born worrier

Ta Frazzle I am just in a big grump. He will snap out of it but it is draining.

Watching a video is a good idea on the c section. But maybe I don't want to know really! Will have a think. It is a bit scary but trying to stay calm. X

footprintsintheslow · 22/09/2020 20:29

John Lewis have lots of offers on at the moment.

Frazzlerock · 23/09/2020 07:50

Ahh @footprintsintheslow I think we have everything now. So typical!

Although I am thinking about getting bottles and a perfect prep machine but I'm not ready to admit the BFing probably won't work out. Maybe I will have a look and see...

OP posts:
Sheera1 · 23/09/2020 12:09

I fancy the minbie bottles as a back up for mixed feeding early. X

Frazzlerock · 23/09/2020 13:15

I looked at Minbie and was very tempted as really like that the teat is a a good shape for mixed feeding, but I think I'll end up going for Mam if I get any as they seem like a good all rounder. I looked on the JL website and neither Mam or the perfect prep are in the sale - typically!

OP posts:
jalu47 · 23/09/2020 14:05

Thanks @footprintsintheslow we're about to order our cot and changing unit so this will save us a small fortune 🙌🏻🙌🏻

NaomiB79 · 23/09/2020 23:12

@Frazzlerock the Perfect Prep machine is on sale at Asda just now. We got ours in store for £60 but if there are any still available online I think they are £45!!

Sheera1 · 24/09/2020 11:10

I got my perfect prep 2nd hand for £25 on fbook marketplace. There are always tons and often hardly used.

I am still bewildered by cot mattresses. I have decided a new one as not worth the risk but there are soooooo many. Most are foam but then somewhere it said foam was bad, so looking at spring ones. Not wanting to pay out a lot of money but now thinking is a cheap one just rubbish. Arrrgghhh.

I am getting myself a bit stressed the closer my date gets. Just want it to be here now!

There's some nice spring ones in John Lewis. Our cot is the smaller of the two main sizes and the mattress is out of stock online but individual stores may have it. I'm getting my daughter to check as she works in one.
Sheera1 · 24/09/2020 20:34

I need a small one too. 120cm one. Will go for a spring one I think then. Xx

You can look up store stock levels on the John Lewis app.
Frazzlerock · 25/09/2020 09:16

I think there is a smaller version of the Silent Night one I bought on Wayfair @Sheera1 Mine was reduced quite heavily too.

www.wayfair.co.uk/children-nursery/pdp/silentnight-safe-nights-essentials-cot-bed-mattress-niz1196.html?piid=43001790 This one says its for a cotbed, but sized at 120. Removable cover and no foam (pocket sprung)

But also check John Lewis too as @footprintsintheslow has said (JL is my favourite usually!)

Ooh wish I had seen this. Bought a mamas and papas one last night in the end. It is on sale from £79 to £39? Sprung but not pocket sprung. No foam. It is double sided so can be flipped which is quite good. I bought a mattress protector too.

Crispaddict99 · 25/09/2020 12:59

Hi ladies, hope you're all keeping well. Not long to go for a few of us! 😬 So I spoke my consultant at my 28 and 32 week appointments about the option of an elective caesarean (rather than induction if I don't go naturally by my due date). We chatted through my reasons and the pros and cons of both etc. She said she won't say no and if I still want this next week, she'll book me in for 39 weeks (I'm currently 33+4). I'm keen to hear from anyone that's been induced and/or had a section and what your experiences of both were? Any comments would be most appreciated x

I was wondering about this as some mattresses are for specific cost or systems but if the measurements are correct surely it would be ok?
Sheera1 · 25/09/2020 13:10

Hi @Crispaddict99

I have been told an elective section is a very bright and cheery affair. You are kept informed throughout and it is much less of a stress.

My induction was very painful contractions from the second they turned on the drip every minute or two. Managed on gas and air for about 5 hours before it was unbearable. The contractions were too close together for the has and air to work. DS was in distress from the first round of hormones they give you before the drip and the midwife was shocked I wasn't taken for a section at 9 that morning. It was 9.30pm before DS was out and breathing. The aneathetist messed up my epidural mid serious contractions and had 3 very painful goes (it shouldn't hurt) and I ended up with a spinal puncture headache where I couldn't sit up for 2 weeks without intense pain. I am hoping getting a spinal block under calm circumstances will mean this doesn't happen this time and am looking forward to a calm birth.

I am starting to worry about the surgery though as I think it is natural to. I worry I bleed out or something and I have a really high BMI but they will be all over any risks and think after my first birth it is the less risky option.

My recovery was fine from c section but maybe the headache distracted me from any discomfort over the wound. It healed fine. X

Sheera1 · 25/09/2020 13:12

I am 32 weeks today and have a scan on Thursday and consultant meeting so will raise some worries I have there. Hoping to get a clearer date for section but at the moment it is 39 weeks like you xx

Frazzlerock · 25/09/2020 13:41

@Crispaddict99 I have had an EMCS and an ELCS.

EMCS - can't really remember much apart from it all being a bit panicked and I wasn't prepared for it either.

ELCS - wonderfully civilised! So easy. Just turn up in the morning and wait for your turn, then in you go, whip baby out and you're done.

I'm having another ELCS for this one in about 8 weeks time.

It's worth checking your trust's website. Mine has a c-section video.
In case yours doesn't ours is here - I'm sure they're all pretty similar:
www.mtw.nhs.uk/caesarean-birth/
Be warned though, it made me tear up big time!

When I have my scan and consultant at 35 weeks they're going to book my section date in. Seems a bit last minute to me! I want to know NOW!! Grin

@Sheera1 I think that was the first mattress I looked at and very nearly bought! Not sure why I didn't but it looks pretty good to me and a great price!

OP posts:
Sheera1 · 25/09/2020 14:02

Thanks for posting that @Frazzlerock. I checked my hospital here and they had videos but a cesarean got 20 seconds where there mentioned you might get one and opened the door to the theatre for a quick flash of the room and moved on. Didn't even go in to the room.

The video was great and I got a wee tear hearing it cry. As a bigger lady myself it was very reassuring to see the mum was a higher BMI too and that all was still calm and fine rather than a size 12.

Frazzlerock · 25/09/2020 14:11

@Sheera1 I was really taken with the kangawrap. Might be worth asking if your hospital provides them for skin to skin? Also worth asking about leaving the cord to pulsate for a minute before clamping. I thought I'd have to ask for it but it looks like mine does that anyway.

It's a very calm video and exactly how I remember it with my last baby. DP watched it and said it terrified him Grin but he's a 1st time dad and he's nervous about me going under the knife, and the next 18 or so years!

OP posts:
Crispaddict99 · 25/09/2020 21:03

@Frazzlerock @Sheera1 Thanks for your replies, both really helpful. The video is brilliant and got me quite emotional. I sat this afternoon and wrote out all the pros and cons and I'm swaying towards the elcs. So unless something changes between now and Thursday, I should get a date booked in then. Starting to get excited and nervous...

Morning all,
Just adding myself to the list.
Is anyone else experiencing bad headaches ?, I'm waking up in the night with them they are that bad. I'm using 4head and paracetamol. I've just found out I'm anaemic and it says a side effect is headaches so I'm hoping when I get my extra iron tablets Monday it may help x
