Thanks @Frazzlerock! Cora is absolutely beautiful and perfect but we're having a bit of a hard time with breastfeeding/weight gain (is there anyone who doesn't have a hard time with breastfeeding??). She was weighed at 3 1/2 weeks and still wasn't back to her birth weight (and she was only 6lb 3oz to start with) so we started supplementing with 30ml from a bottle after each feed (some pumped, but I can only seen to get 20ml a time from pumping so mainly formula). Her weight is now much better but she's asking for more and more supplements.. Obviously her weight/health is the most important thing but it's so disheartening to feed for an hour and then she's still ravenous and needs a bottle Sad. It's a massive faff too - really long feeds + 5 x pumping a day + sterilizing a bottle for every feed. Gah!

NaomiB79 · 10/09/2020 18:17

@Sheera1 what a nightmare re the form. We had an issue with paternity leave this week too, my DP had booked two weeks paternity (which his work give at full pay) and two weeks annual leave so we would have had a month with him off. It was booked ages ago so assumed all was fine. When he checked the policy tho turns out he's 3 weeks short to be eligible for paternity pay because he's not been there for 40 weeks 😡😡. So he's taking two weeks annual leave and one week unpaid leave which is all we can afford!

Frazzlerock · 10/09/2020 18:57

Hi @luckylakes welcome to the group. I hope this one is a sticky bean 🤞

@PregnantPorcupine might be worth looking into hypoplasia and insufficient glandular tissue? This is what I have and couldn't even produce 5mls in 2 hours of pumping with an electric. I was diagnosed by a LLL lactation consultant when I was pregnant back in 2016. I plan to use a SNS system which I'm going to make myself with a feeding tube and bottle (you can buy them though) There is so much you can do to help keep the BFing up as much as poss. I've already started on alfalfa capsules and will start goats rue at 36 weeks. Then my LC is having domperidone prescribed once baby is here.
Also hoping to have some blood work done to determine what the cause might be and how to treat.
I'd definitely recommend a lactation consultant. In my experience, La leche league have been brilliant (and they're free).
I don't know if any of that will help you but deffo worth looking into.
I'm absolutely convinced hypoplasia and IGT are far more common than is made out.
Also, you probably had this checked already, but tongue tie? Even a mild one that you can't see very well can effect feeding.

@NaomiB79 that really sucks 😢

OP posts:
Sheera1 · 10/09/2020 22:26

@naomib79 if he works on for 3 weeks can he not then take the 2 weeks paid leave. I don't think paternity have to take it as soon as the child is born. He could use his week of hols paid then back for 2 and then that would be him qualifying, or does eligibility go from the birth date regardless? That sucks a lot if so. I will be so annoyed if he has messed it up. He says how was he to remember when I said I told him weeks ago. I said, I told you weeks ago because it was due and told you the deadline. I also sent him the scan of my matb1 form.

Honestly men! We just seem to be pissing money down the drain at the moment with my bloody car and his when that money was needed for mat leave and wedding. I have also saved up my own mat leave pay on my own which pisses me off a bit as it is his child too. He earns more than me just a mo th and I manage to save a whack and he is just impossible. Been taking money off hom every month for the wedding g but it always ends up being spent.

Man I am on such a rant today! Feeling grumpy and tried and massive 😊

NaomiB79 · 10/09/2020 22:42

@Sheera1 lol rant away that's what we're here for. I'd be really peeved too if he'd forgotten and might miss out on paternity pay because of it!

I thought the same as you at first, could mine just take the leave 3 weeks later but it is based on how long he has been there before the due date and the due date doesn't move so there is no way round it unfortunately.

Hi ladies, can I join in?
I’m 42, due dc3 on March 12.
Youngest is 12 so I feel like a FTM! It’s myself and DP’s first together, we have two each from previous.

footprintsintheslow · 11/09/2020 07:22

Welcome to everyone new. Lovely that we are growing...in more ways than one.

Frazzlerock · 11/09/2020 07:33

Morning all.

Ah @Sheera1 moan away! It sounds so frustrating! You told him weeks ago so he could do it then. It was his choice to keep putting it off and then forgetting to do it.

Hey again @passthemustard I hope all is well with you. Feel free to update your deets in the list (copy and paste it)

Welcome @TheFoz I know the feeling. My youngest is 11 and I also have a different partner. I definitely feel like a first time mummy again, especially as guidelines for all sorts of pregnancy and baby related things have changed, ie making up formula which I'm hoping I won't have to do, but it all seems like such a faff these days!
Feel free to add yourself to the list (copy and paste it into your next post) It's in due date order Smile

DP has gone off camping with his mates (its bloody freezing!) and the boys are off to their dad's for the weekend tonight so it looks like it's just me and the animals this weekend. I desperately want to make a start on the baby's room, I think nesting is kicking in, but not sure if I can with all the heavy stuff in there. There's an under stairs cupboard in there which is bursting with all sorts of crap and it all needs sorting out so we can use it for baby stuff.

Hope everyone is well and the new babies are behaving themselves Smile

Countingblessings · 11/09/2020 09:44

Morning everyone!

Welcome new people! Lovely to have you join us and wishing you all the best for your pregnancies.

I would join the FB group if I'm not too late?

Great to hear how you're getting on @PregnantPorcupine. Sorry the breastfeeding is a struggle but well done for persevering with it.

Men can be so frustrating @Sheera1. My DH hasn't done anything like that for a while but definitely has form. Think he's on his best behaviour just now cos I'm hormonal Grin

@frazzlerock I hear you with the nesting. I really want to get a couple of rooms in our house sorted but just feel I dont have the strength or energy. Hoping it comes back soon cos I really want to get it done. Enjoy your weekend of peace!

26 weeks gone for me. Starting to count down the weeks and days. Feel massive already and worried about how big I'm actually going to get Confused also getting the fear about going back to nappies, night feeds etc. Also feel anxiety about my health and the baby's health creeping in too. But I keep reminding myself I've got so much to be thankful for and I'm starting to get a bit excited Grin

Is anyone planning to bottle feed from the outset? BF just didnt work for me last time so I'm not sure I'm going to try again. I'm not sure whether to try and Express and feed using a bottle or just go with formula straight away. If I go with formula, do I take it to the hospital with me or will they give me some there? They gave me a supply last time but that might only have been because I tried BF and then asked for a bottle. All confused and probably overthinking as usual Blush

luckylakes · 11/09/2020 11:46

I wonder if I could ask a question of those of you with older DC expecting a baby with a new partner.

I've been with my DH for 2 years and got married this summer. Kids are 12 and 8. They live between ours and their Dads with whom I have a good relationship.

Things are great between DH and the DC.

It's very early days for me but I'm worried about telling them. My DD 12 will think it's disgusting that we've had sex and my DS probably won't relish the idea of there being a baby in the house.

For those of you in my situation, how did you tell your DH and what was the reaction? Any tips would be greatly appreciated x

luckylakes · 11/09/2020 11:53

That should say how did you tell your DC!

Frazzlerock · 11/09/2020 13:13

@Countingblessings have PMd you.

@luckylakes Our DC have been on our loss journey with us the past 4 years so they knew another pregnancy could have been on the cards. So telling them was easy, but they were nervous about another one dying and have only really just started talking abut the baby like its actually happening (now 29 weeks). They are 15 and 11 years and also from a previous marriage. My youngest was very keen for another sibling anyway - they have a little sister from ex-h's side but he wanted us to have one too.

OP posts:
luckylakes · 11/09/2020 13:21

@Frazzlerock thanks for replying. It sounds like you have lovely DC.

We didn't tell mine about the MC last year and I'm thinking we maybe should have because a year later my DD mentions 'that time when you were really ill'

I'm probably worrying about nothing and they'll be absolutely fine.

I'm this seems like a lovely group.

Could you DM me so I can join the FB group too please. I'm not sure how to message someone directly on here - maybe it's because I'm on a phone!

Frazzlerock · 11/09/2020 13:46

We had to tell the DC really @luckylakes as I struggled massively with each one and deteriorated pretty badly mentally. The first baby they had only just found out about as we told them only 2 days before we lost her so they had to know about that one. I'm sure you'll find a way to tell them Smile

I will send you a PM now. You can't see them on the mobile app, I'm not sure why they don't update it so you can!

luckylakes · 11/09/2020 15:35

@Frazzlerock thank you for sharing that with me.

And thanks for the FB add. There's some cute babies there x

Samk79 · 12/09/2020 07:43

Hello ladies,
I was induced on Thursday, had my baby boy yesterday At 17.06, it was a difficult birth and enddd up being a ventouse delivery but all worth it x

PregnantPorcupine · 12/09/2020 10:27

Aw congratulations @Samk79 ! Great news that your baby is here. I hope you're healing well.

@Frazzlerock she actually did have a slight tongue tie which was fixed a few weeks ago. The best explanation I can think of for our situation is that she wasn't fully draining the breast in the first few weeks and that has left me with reduced supply.. I don't think I have hypoplaisia, going by what I've read on the internet.

We actually bought a SNS from medela but I haven't been brave enough to use it yet.. I'm slightly worried that itll be "too easy" And she will be discouraged from putting the effort in to suck out the actual breast milk Confused

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 12/09/2020 12:32

Crikey! I've missed quite a bit! Hello to the new people! Congratulations @Samk79 @PregnantPorcupine sorry you're having such a difficult time!
Not much to report here! I feel huge; nausea still a virtually constant problem and I was even sick yesterday morning 😖 Other than that I hope things are going ok. We're packing the house to move....I'm struggling with finding enthusiasm for that!!! If only I could teleport everything to the new house! 🤣

Sheera1 · 12/09/2020 19:10

Hi all. Quick post from me as been putting baby stuff away. Definitely nesting here. Feeling a bit more relaxed now things are a bit tidier in the house.

@onlyreadingneverposting8 bless you moving just now. Hope it goes well and you can get organised and feet up. New house will be so exciting though once in.

Here are the nursery pics. Not got the cot or all our baby crap in yet but I love it. Xx

Wow @Sheera1 that is a beautiful nursery!! You've worked really hard doing all that! Just need the baby now in 9 weeks!!! Can you believe it - 9 weeks!?!?!?
