In honour of our third trimester I thought we should start a new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
2019Mama · 03/09/2020 12:04

Thanks for the new thread
I’m up 11kgs at 27 weeks. I put on 12 with my son and it’s stressing me out that I’m nearly at that already 😬😰

CoBell · 03/09/2020 13:13

Hi @mOmShanti, my baby has hiccups several times throughout the day pretty much every day. I actually had a 4D scan done last week and she started with hiccups then and the sonographer was able to put the sound thing on her and we actually got to hear them! I've been told it's nothing to worry about though Smile

TangBloodyFastic · 03/09/2020 13:38

Place marking

mOmShanti · 03/09/2020 17:25

@HarrietM87 thanks for the reassurance on the hiccups, I’d googled excessive hiccuping and ended up panicking as one does 🤦‍♀️

@Kodiak83 I’ve also gained around 10kg+ and at present I’m just under 31 weeks. My BMI was about 22 to begin with so I think they say that up to 13kg extra is considered perfectly fine. We can only do so much about the weight gain in my opinion. Even though I have a very physical job as a gym instructor and I’m (reluctantly) still working nevertheless I’ve still gained weight all over and look A LOT bigger, so it’s gotta be par for the course I’d say. I guess if we’re doing the best to make sure our food choices are healthy (enough) and sensible, we’ll be fine! If you’re anything like me you may be RAVENOUSLY hungry every three hours so I’m in no position to go on a diet 🤣

mOmShanti · 03/09/2020 17:30

Thanks @CoBell I’m feeling less concerned with everyone’s feedback. I’ve also noticed a funny pattern that when I’m getting very hungry the baby starts hiccups! Probably a funny coincidence!

mOmShanti · 03/09/2020 17:36

@Laura0589 ahhhh so maybe the period pain I’ve been having is round ligament pain! Sounds very similar. I told various midwives I’ve seen that I’ve had period pain but not one suggested round ligament pain. It especially hurts when walking up an incline etc and slows me right down.

HarrietM87 · 03/09/2020 17:48

Might weigh myself tomorrow out of interest...no idea how weight gain has been! I put on loads of weight in my last pregnancy despite eating healthily and have been really healthy this time as well so expect it will be the same 🤣. Like a pp my midwife isn’t bothered as my bmi was healthy beforehand and I don’t look overweight now. She’s said she won’t weigh me unless I ask for it.

I also feel like my bump has finally caught up with my gestation. I felt so massive all through the second trimester, and so much bigger than first time, but now I’m 31 weeks I think I’m similar to first time round, so growth must have slowed down thank goodness!

Bluebell2020 · 03/09/2020 17:53

@Kodiak83 I'm 28 weeks and have only gained 5.5kg. Which to most people might seem brilliant but I worry I've not gained enough! My BMI was 19 pre pregnancy and this is my first baby. I hate to admit I have the worst diet and eat so much chocolate and crap in a day it's actually embarrassing. I think everyone's bodies just react so different! xx

FireflyGirl · 03/09/2020 20:29

@Kodiak83 some midwives don't bother weighing you again after your booking in appointment. They don't want women to get too hung up on weight gain - also remember, some women will put more on but lose it really quickly afterwards, others will only put a bit on but struggle to lose it.

I had my 31 week appointment on Tuesday, and was quite surprised that she weighed me, but I also had a massive jump on my fundal height measurement (went from measuring spot on at 29 weeks to 4 weeks ahead at 31 weeks). I am literally all bump out the front, though, which is probably why, and the bump is lopsided where baby is laid entirely on my right hand side.

For anyone interested, I had to have a growth scan and baby was estimated at 4lb4, which is 72nd centile at this gestation (31+1).

@mOmShanti round ligament pain is usually worse when you cough, sneeze or move quickly (such as sitting up or turning over in bed). It tends to be up the sides of your bump (rather than more 'internal' (iykwim) and period-pain-like). If that doesn't sound like what you're experiencing, you could have a mild form of pelvic girdle pain. If you know any physios, might be worth having a chat with them as they'd be able to give you a better idea.

mOmShanti · 03/09/2020 21:20

Thanks @FireflyGirl, I don’t know why but I assumed that pelvic girdle pain would also occur at the back of the body not just the front. I have no back pain, only literally period like cramps ☹️ The two midwives I’ve mentioned it to assume it’s a muscular strain because I’m still teaching classes 7 days a week. But it comes and goes so I’m not sure it’s a strain.

Out of interest is everyone getting their fundal measurements done? I’ve not had it done once! I’ve had to be scheduled for additional scans because at both 20 and 28 weeks baby was measuring at the 5th centile. So does anyone know if they don’t measure the bump if you’re having additional scans?

FireflyGirl · 03/09/2020 22:19

I don't know what difference scans make to whether they do the fundal measurements - I've had mine done at 29 and 31 weeks, and only had the scan because of the measurements.

I am under the physio for pelvic girdle pain (referred early due to having it with my previous pregnancy), and I don't have any pain in my back. It is all in the bottom of my pelvis and under my bump, the ligaments on the inside of my groin, and then in the outside muscles of my thighs (which is referred pain from the pelvis).

It can cause lasting damage if not managed carefully, so you should definitely speak to a physio even if just to rule it out.

Anotherboy · 03/09/2020 22:47

At least 13kg at 31 weeks! Started with a BMI of 21. Same thing happened last time around, I just gain a lot. I eat a mix of healthy and snacks, and listen to my body, and that's what it wants to do! It resulted in a very healthy pregnancy and baby last time, and the weight came off again, so not going to worry, even though the scales horrify me. Everyone is different I guess, and so long as you're both healthy I don't think little or lots of weight gain should be a worry.

Wise0wl · 03/09/2020 22:57

@FireflyGirl thank you for solving the mystery, it’s round ligament pain up the right side of my bump!

I feel gigantic and like my bump has grown masses in the last week in particular, but am not weighing myself as I’ll get too hung up on it. The midwife was happy with my bump size at 28 weeks which is good news!

Kodiak83 · 04/09/2020 10:26

Thanks everyone who replied, it’s so interesting to see the mix of responses and amounts everyone has put on and how normal it is to be within quite a wide range. My midwife wasn’t remotely bothered I have to say, more me and I think just because my BMI was high to begin with. My GD test has come back negative this morning so that’s another reassurance. Clearly just make big babies and carry a lot of fluid!!

HarrietM87 · 04/09/2020 11:13

So I weighed myself this morning and have gained 10kg at 31 weeks which is within the healthy range.

I didn’t think they measured fundal height until 28 weeks? Mine was measuring 28cm at 28 weeks which was spot on (I find it so weird that the cm is supposed to match the weeks!) and have my next appointment next week at 32 weeks so will be interested to see how much it’s grown!

I’ve had a bit of pain this time round - literally on my pubic bone - which I didn’t have last time. I think it might be mild SPD? It’s generally fine but hard to stand on one leg so I have to sit down to get dressed/put on shoes etc, and it really hurts to turn over in bed for some reason! Has anyone else had this?

AnxiousLady1 · 04/09/2020 11:22

@Harrietm87 I have to sit down putting on my shoes and also struggle turning over in bed. I just put it down to bump getting in way. Sometimes I wake in the night and if pillow isn't between my legs I'll feel an awful pulling on one side of my pelvis like round ligament pain. Assumed again it was combination of gravity and weight pulling bump downward as once I reposition myself or put pillow back between my legs it eases off again.

Kodiak83 · 04/09/2020 11:34

Definitely sounds like spd pain, I always feel it right on the Pubic bone. I had it really bad with second pregnancy and have been managing it as best I can in this 3rd pregnancy as I could feel it starting from around 12 weeks. It’s not got massively worse this time, few things that help: no pushing trolleys (helped massively by all those home delivery shops since March 😊), as little driving as possible (I found having to use my foot on the accelerator for anything other than a short drive would worsen mine. Again helped this time by barely going anywhere/hubby being around all the time!), a good pregnancy pillow (I got the bbhugme this time after 12 week scan and has really helped me sleep and be more comfy), a mattress topper to help lessen pressure on hips with the side sleeping, no yoga stretches where you open up your knees/pelvis (I was doing this loads last time as I was trying for Vbac), Pull in tummy And keep knees together when getting up from seated/in And out of bed, wearing a support beltwearing good shoes eg no flip flops. These things have definitely helped me this time but still a way to go yet (11 more weeks!).

FilthyforFirth · 04/09/2020 12:05

Just had my scan and he is a big baby! 3lbs4oz at 28+2 so 90th centile. Hoping this helps my case for having him early. I was sick in the waiting room and in the scanning room, having a really bad HG day today Sad. Just totally fed up with it all now.

wannabebump · 04/09/2020 22:09

@FilthyforFirth did u get booked in for CS at 38 weeks after your scan? Sorry you're still suffering with HG

FilthyforFirth · 04/09/2020 22:47

Thank you @wannabebump. I did get booked in but only for 39 weeks. I'm not 'sick enough' to go sooner apparently. So the 18th is the day, unless he decides to come earlier on his own. He is still head down so hopefully will stay that way.

How are you doing?

wannabebump · 05/09/2020 09:29

@FilthyforFirth 39 weeks is still good, but to say you're not sick enough is terrible. I hope it eases for you soon. I think my hips are disintegrating but otherwise all good!

Pp's about fundal measurements and weight... I had measurements taken at 28 weeks and I was measuring 30. I was told at the 20 week scan that Baby has long legs so I'm not really surprised. Next measurement is next week so will see how that goes! And in terms of weight, I've put on 11kgs. I could cry! I'm pretty sure it's "all bump" but a few people have said I'm quite neat recently so maybe it's my backside as well!

MrsR87 · 05/09/2020 09:37

Hi all. Been back to work this week so haven’t had much time to catch up with threads.

It made me realise that despite all the horrible things the pandemic has caused, I’ve been really lucky to be working at home for the majority of time until now. Within a day I had swollen ankles and last night I fell asleep on the sofa not long after arriving home!

HarrietM87 · 05/09/2020 10:04

@Kodiak83 thanks so much for all the info! Will try some of that! Weirdly I always sit cross legged (ie with legs right off the floor), even at my desk (I know terrible habit) but that isn’t causing any discomfort at all - is it bad for SPD?

I’m also really struggling to stay hydrated enough - drank 4 pints of water at 4am this morning as I woke up feeling like I had a UTI coming on 😬

mOmShanti · 05/09/2020 11:08

@FireflyGirl thanks for the pelvic girdle pain info, having chatted to a physio colleague and midwife friend they don’t think it’s that 🤔 Midwife friend says more like round ligament pain, community midwife said it’s cos I’m working too much 🤦‍♀️ I’ll probably never know 🤣

mOmShanti · 05/09/2020 11:12

This week I’ve had a funny tingly, buzzy feeling just under my rib cage on the right side, anyone else had similar?
