Hi everyone.
I noticed our thread was about to fill up, so thought I’d start a new one quick. Hope that’s not too presumptuous of me and have to say thank you to @Sheera1 for starting the thread.

As the title says it’s a discussion thread for any pregnant women who are classed as that bit older for a mum to be.

Copying our list over so we can keep up. If you would like to join please copy and paste the list, adding your own details in date order.

Really hope I’m doing this right! 🙈

No, she's bonkers to think your DP would go out of his way to pick her up when baby is here. Do you even want her there? I couldn't cope with that. An extra person to think about, no thank you!

footprintsintheslow · 03/09/2020 06:39

@NaomiB79 in these sort or situations the phrase "that's not going to work for us" is a good one to use. Then you say "once we know how we are we will let you know when it's convenient for you to stay and visit, I imagine by week two (or whatever)"

That way she has a rough idea of when to expect the invite and there will definitely be an invite. Reassure her you want and need her but straight away afterwards will be a bit much.

I imagine she'll want to cuddle and hold the baby lots and in those early days that baby just needs to be with you, next to you, on you and feeding. All your skin to skin time will help everyone relax, bond and allow for milk production.

NaomiB79 · 03/09/2020 07:51

@footprintsintheslow thanks I think that might work. I don't mind her coming for a bit and I think she'll be a big help when she's here, but just need to manage her expectations better! We want time with the baby ourselves in the first few days and not have the pressure of getting her here!

footprintsintheslow · 03/09/2020 09:49

I think expecting a lift is out of the question too. Having said that you might rather go and get her rather than her travel on public transport before coming to visit you. You don't want her bringing in the dreaded lurgy. She could get a bus home though.

DufferedUp · 03/09/2020 09:52

I'm home! Theatre didn't manage to fit me in for the blood patch yesterday and I threw a strop and insisted on being discharged. Bloody stupid really as suffering now!

Anae

DufferedUp · 03/09/2020 09:55

Oops, pressed too soon!

Anaethetist said he'd call today as I can go back and have it and I think I will do. They were supposed to send me home with pain killers but forgot and OTC stuff isn't touching the sides.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 03/09/2020 09:57

Oh @DufferedUp you poor thing! That's not good enough! When were they suggesting you could have it? Can you go in just to have it and come home again? How's the incontinence? Do you need to contact PALS for some help?

footprintsintheslow · 03/09/2020 09:57

@DufferedUp can you call your gp and explain what's happened as they can prescribe stuff for you you poor thing.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 03/09/2020 09:58

Cross posted! They really shouldn't be leaving you in pain like this - especially with everything else!

Frazzlerock · 03/09/2020 10:31

Oh @DufferedUp Flowers I hope this all gets sorted for you ASAP

hellolo · 03/09/2020 10:35

Hi so inspiring to see so many of you over 40 and pregnant. I'm 43 and ttc but have had losses sadly

Did any of you conceive naturally if you don't mind me asking?

I am worried I've run out of time

Frazzlerock · 03/09/2020 10:36

Just had my midwife appointment. Heartbeat all good, although baby was fidgeting most of the way through it. He/she's not stopped for about three days now!
I thought she would measure my bump but she said they don't do it when scans are booked - I guess it could confuse things with two different types of measurements. I was so hoping I'd get a rough idea of the size, or at least find out if we're on the right track. I guess I will wait until next Weds. Had my bloods taken for iron and antibodies, and she also did my thyroid which I was planning on doing at the hospital next week so that saves me a job.

Frazzlerock · 03/09/2020 10:41

Hi @hellolo I'm 40 and this one is natural but we had 4 losses and long periods between each pregnancy (PCOS) so we had started to discuss IVF/ICSI before we finally got pregnant with our last little lost one (who took over a year to conceive). Then miraculously got pregnant 3 months later AND I took the MAP as we couldn't bear to go through another loss but here I am 28 weeks pregnant Smile
Weirdly, I have fallen pregnant faster as I've got older than I did with my two boys who I had when I was 26 and 30.

Keep going!

DufferedUp · 03/09/2020 10:47

Don't get me started on the incontinence! I now have a catheter for the next 7 days and I'm just trying not to think about it as it's all a bit too much.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 03/09/2020 11:51

@Frazzlerock good to hear midwife appointment went well!

@DufferedUp what a nightmare - you're doing amazingly well to cope with it all!!

@hellolo hi! I'm 44 and 28 weeks pregnant with a naturally conceived pregnancy. My last baby was born just before I was 41 (also naturally conceived) and I have had 3 miscarriages in my 40s too. There's a really good Facebook group for ttc and pregnancy over the age of 40 if you're on Facebook.

NaomiB79 · 03/09/2020 12:34

@hellolo I'm 41 and conceived naturally when I was 40 with my first child. We did try for about a year and were in the process of being referred to the fertility clinic when I fell pregnant. We had some tests done to see if there were any issues as part of the referral and they did come back to say that my DP had borderline low motility in his sperm. If you haven't done that yet would suggest going to your GP to get checked. That will give you an idea if there is anything that may be causing issues for you in getting pregnant or carrying to term or not.

jalu47 · 03/09/2020 18:31

@hellolo i conceived at 37 with first pregnancy (now 38 and due in Dec). Was prepared for a bit of a battle but realise I was very lucky in conceiving almost immediately. We are going to try for a second quite quickly but realise it could be harder. Best of luck, hoping your journey is successful.

DufferedUp · 03/09/2020 18:51

Back in hospital Confused. Called the anaethetist this afternoon as couldn't keep on top of the pain so he says they'll do it first thing tomorrow. Fingers crossed as once that's sorted I'll feel pretty ok I think. The plus side of all this is that I haven't given my stitches a second thought.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 03/09/2020 20:57

@DufferedUp sorry to hear (but not surprised) 🤞🏼they live up to the promise and you're sorted very first thing tomorrow!! How's baby doing? Does she have a name yet? (If you're willing to disclose that is?!)

Clarkel1 · 03/09/2020 21:13

Hi everyone hope your all doing well, congrats on all the new baby's so happy for you all don't get to check posts all the time but hope alls well, that's me nearly 22 weeks, omg the pressure down thier is so painful think my pelvis is playing up, I have the most awful pains alway in my tailbone, never had this before. Also sorry for the ugly pigs but has anyone else's skin became like transparent? I have veins popping out everywhere and I'm bruising like a peace 😩

Sheera1 · 03/09/2020 23:33

Oh @Clarkel1 that all sounds awful for you. No veins like that over here though mine are prob buried under a layer of fat. Has the midwife seen them?

@DufferedUp oh you poor soul. I know exactly what it is like. There is nothing like the pain of that headache. I am sure they told me caffeine helped? It was a while ago. I remember drinking Pepsi max into he ward to help. Lie down as much as you can. I was breast feeding on my side which worked ok. I really hope this works for you tomorrow. I really dipped low in hospital after a week and discharged myself. Once I k we nothing else could be done I wanted it but got decent painkillers from memory. I had a c section so was getting them anyway but I remember begging them for more meds and having to wait all day for a doctor to sign them off. Was torture. All my fingers are crossed for you. Just remember there is an end in sight even if it doesn't work tomorrow. I remember getting low worrying that was me for life but your body will make the spinal fluid back up and one day it is just gone. Xx

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 04/09/2020 06:49

@Clarkel1 veins dilate in pregnancy and if they're near the surface you will definitely be able to see them more. Watch that the bruises are phebitis (superficial blood clots) - they're not serious but can indicate that you have other varicose veins. I have really bad varicose veins in one leg (the pictures) - they go all the way up and all in my nether reason too! They look horrendous (even the doctors recoil). I'm fortunate in that they generally don't give me any pain though.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 04/09/2020 14:53

Oh dear...I've put everyone off with my leg 😳😬 and that it at its best because it was early morning - you should see it when I've been on my feet 🤦🏽‍♀️

In other news we have a moving date...3 weeks....and we haven't starting packing yet.... keep telling myself it'll be worth it when it's done !

DufferedUp · 04/09/2020 15:26

I am patched! Seems to have worked, thankfully, so waiting to be discharged now.

Also need a new catheter bag as managed to break it!

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 04/09/2020 15:47

@DufferedUp great news! You must feel (almost) like a new person without that awful headache! Just the catheter to go now! X
