Hi everyone.
I noticed our thread was about to fill up, so thought I’d start a new one quick. Hope that’s not too presumptuous of me and have to say thank you to @Sheera1 for starting the thread.

As the title says it’s a discussion thread for any pregnant women who are classed as that bit older for a mum to be.

Copying our list over so we can keep up. If you would like to join please copy and paste the list, adding your own details in date order.

Really hope I’m doing this right! 🙈

I'd accidentally hidden this thread so I've been frantically searching for you all. Glad I'm back though!

@Frazzlerock how's the cat?
Do you think your DP is feeling the same and is worried about bringing the funeral up with you?

@Sheera1 @onlyreadingneverposting8 what is your best injection advice? I have a friend starting ivf and she has to inject six times a day!

@Countingblessings to makes crochet easier I'd start with chunky wool and a needle at least 6mm or bigger.

@Realladymarmalade hooray for Zachary and news that births can be amazing. Gorgeous swaddling photo and blanket.

@DufferedUp I've missed so much whilst being awol from the thread. How are you and your little daughter doing now? You sound like you've been very brave. I love all her hair!!!

@AliasGrape that photo is wonderful thanks for sharing. Everything looks perfect. X

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 01/09/2020 07:40

@footprintsintheslow an ice pack is my advice. Numb the skin where the injection is going to go and then everything is usually painless! I only wish it hadn't taken me until my 4th time injecting clexane throughout a pregnancy to think of it!! Oh and push the needle in firmly but pretty slowly - the opposite of how to do it on someone else - I found this works because I found the anticipation is worse when doing and injection myself and just going for the jab had me just not being able to do it.

Sheera1 · 01/09/2020 10:40

Morning all.

@@onlyreadingneverposting8 yes think it must be a wee tear or something. All been fine since. I was a bit backed up due to iron and that is a really good point on the clexane and bleeding more easily/freely. Hadn't thought of that. And yes on the high Blood pressure. I felt ok, but it was a bit of a shock and although keeping calm I guess I wasn't on the inside 😁.

Glad to hear from you again @footprintsintheslow I was just thinking we hadn't heard from you in a while.

I have 11 weeks of work left officially with Mat leave booked a week before due date. I must admit I am not feeling the most motivated employee in the world. 🤦‍♀️. Only thing keeping me going is to get a good year end rating which affects bonus (not talking crazy money, but anything coming in next year for mat leave is a help), but with Covid I also think we will not be getting anything.

Anyone else feeling like this about work? I just want to sit on the couch 😁

DufferedUp · 01/09/2020 11:17

I've got another night in hospital. In addition to the indignity of peeing (waiting for the doc to see what happens about that), during one of my 3 epidurals they caused a leak of cerebral fluid so I now have debilitating spinal headaches whenever I'm not not lying down so they're going to do a blood patch tonight to hopefully fix that.

Frazzlerock · 01/09/2020 11:42

Morning

@Sheera1 god I'm so done with work now. Just want to get my section booked so I have an official leaving date in the calendar then I can properly start counting days. But not much more than 11 weeks to go.
One of my colleagues goes on mat leave on Friday and I'm so jealous!

It's DS2's first day at secondary school today and thankfully he's super excited but I'm a nervous wreck! He happily went off to join the other year 7's in the queue and I just looked over thinking - THERE IS NO SOCIAL DISTANCING WHATSOEVER!! Shock
I'd keep them both at home forever if I could, but I don't have the patience for homeschooling full time.

Hey @footprintsintheslow ! Glad you found us. Drop me a PM if you want to join the FB group and I'll send you a link.
Cat is much better thank you. She's like a different cat entirely, poor thing has clearly been in pain for a long time Sad If only cats could talk eh? She's going for her post op check up this afternoon.

How are you getting on?

Frazzlerock · 01/09/2020 11:44

Oh @DufferedUp what a nightmare for you, not what you need at all. Let us know how you get on xx

AliasGrape · 01/09/2020 12:04

Oh @DufferedUp sounds like you’ve really been through the wars! Good luck I hope they get you sorted xx

@DufferedUp that all sounds a nightmare! Hope they get you sorted very soon! Sending positive vibes and in the meantime try just enjoy those newborn cuddles!! Xx

Sheera1 · 01/09/2020 17:18

@dufferedup oh no. I had that with ds. It was really awful. Mine was a botched epidural. Took him 3 goes and it was so painful. My back was a mess. Took them 3 days to diagnosie it was spinal puncture headache. It is really not run at all. They did the blood patch on me which should give you instant relief but didn't work for me. I to this day maintain it was clexane blood thinners so the blood didn't clot and heal the puncture. The blood patch was fine by the way. Nowhere near the pain of the epidural.

I was in hospital for a week and got an MRI as it wasn't healing. They found nothing and decided it must have healed and it was just going to take a while for the fluid to be made up again. I ended up discharging myself as was so sick of the hospital and the midwives who were amazing changed shift and the new ones were really mean to me about helping with DS as I wasn't supposed to sit up. Very hard when you have a new baby!

I went home and it took another week and one day just say up and the awful headache was completely gone.

There is light at the end of the tunnel but really hope yours fixes immediately with the blood patch.

I liken in to the sort of hangover you would expect if you drank a litre of straight vodka!

I really really feel for you. I am terrified of it happening when I get my spinal block for my c section. X

Sheera1 · 01/09/2020 17:22

@Frazzlerock yes the schools and covid and a bit terrifying. In Scotland secondary schools now wear masks in the corridors etc as they have been so many cases since our schools went back. No social distancing at all. It does worry me.

DS is now at home anyway, but he is with his cousins just now who both attend school so it is a worry in this last trimester.

DufferedUp · 01/09/2020 18:13

@Sheera1 probs was the blood thinners. I can't have it done today as I had a blood thinner injection this morning and it needs to be out of my system first. Scheduled for tomorrow though.

Have a catheter back in and have googled all kinds of horror stories about needing one for weeks!

DufferedUp · 01/09/2020 18:14

Oh, and I'm sure this is a fluke but baby slept through last night until 5:50!

Sheera1 · 01/09/2020 23:09

So Glasgow back in household lockdown. Not allowed anyone in your house or to visit a house unless part of a an extended household due to single parent etc.

Frazzlerock · 02/09/2020 08:52

How are you doing this morning @DufferedUp? Did you get another full night's sleep?

@Sheera1 I don't really know any different as, apart from sending the kids into the Covid pit (AKA school) we're still not really having anyone in the house. Although hoping for that to change once baby is here!

DufferedUp · 02/09/2020 09:40

Baby did sleep through again but my mum says it's probs the epidural? I'm also on lots of meds which might be affecting her I guess.

I got more sleep, maybe 5 hours on and off, but headache was intense all night. Waiting for blood patch today.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 02/09/2020 10:55

@DufferedUp hope they sort you quickly today and it works fast!! What have they said re the incontinence?

I'm currently sitting in the hospital car park - they phoned yesterday to tell me that it was still only me allowed into the scan (not that husband was coming anyway!) and told me to leave plenty of time for parking and to get in through security- got lucky with parking and have been sitting here for 20mins so far as it's just too early to go in! Also got a consultants app after scan. Dunno whether to beg this time or next to be induced no later than 39 weeks....I'm so ill all the time - almost constant nausea still. I know it's self inflicted as I didn't need to get pregnant but just one week less would make a difference right now! Sorry for the moan!

Frazzlerock · 02/09/2020 11:10

Ah let us know how you get on @onlyreadingneverposting8
My scan is next Weds at 29 weeks. Midwife tomorrow.

@DufferedUp I think babies are pretty exhausted for a few days after birth but hopefully you just have a good sleeper!

Crispaddict99 · 02/09/2020 11:48

Just catching up on all your posts and gorgeous baby pics! 🥰🥰 Huge congratulations to all the new mums! I haven't been on for ages but would love to join your Facebook group if that's okay? x

Frazzlerock · 02/09/2020 13:14

Hey @Crispaddict99 I'll send you a link via a PM on here

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 02/09/2020 14:43

All good at the hospital baby fine and growing well. Est. Weight 2lbs 9oz (have no idea how this compares with my others 😂) managed to get my exemption done finally and got 28 week bloods taken. I'm officially done - want this baby in my arms! It's going to be a LONG 11ish weeks 🤪

Frazzlerock · 02/09/2020 15:28

Good news @onlyreadingneverposting8 - yes I empathise! Can't wait to meet this baby either and finally put laid to rest whether we have a boy (we deffo do) or a surprise girl...
I can't believe you're only getting your exemption done now. I realised mine is useless when I took it to the dentist a few weeks ago, totally forgetting its a bloody private dentist (no NHS dentists near me) but I get Denplan through work anyway. I also already get free prescriptions as I take thyroxine (I don't understand that rule) so I needn't have bothered sending the form off!

Sheera1 · 02/09/2020 19:02

Oh @onlyreadingneverposting8 You must be so fed up of the nausea. no wonder you want it over. Moan away. You are entitled too. X

I had 28 week midwife today. BP fine using an old and not electronic one as I predicted. Heartbeat all fine. Lots of bloods taken. They took a swab when I was in triage the other night and have strep B present. Had it with DS though they didn't check till he was out and has 3 days of antibiotic drip for him. They will give me antibiotics this time nearer the birth. No gestational diabetes test. Just a random blood glucose and that might determine further things needed or not. I hast had a sugary drink before I went in. Ooops.

Scan at 32 weeks for me and seeing consultant then x

footprintsintheslow · 02/09/2020 19:20

@Frazzlerock those free prescriptions are amazing aren't they. I'm on thyroxine too but now all prescriptions are free in Wales anyway.

I will join the Facebook group too please. I also use a Facebook pseudonym as I'm a teacher and hate the year 6's stalking me. I have recently deleted the Facebook app from my phone to try and limit my screen time more so not sure how active I'll be in the group.

Frazzlerock · 02/09/2020 19:51

Just PM'd you @footprintsintheslow

NaomiB79 · 02/09/2020 22:30

So the saga with my Mum wanting to come and stay immediately after the baby is born continues! She phoned me on Sunday and casually dropped into the conversation that my DP would need to go and pick her up and bring her to ours. It's a 3 hour round trip and I don't really want him away for that long in the few days after she is born! My Mum doesn't drive and won't get the bus just now because of Covid. I don't want to upset her but I think she is being unreasonable, she had originally said she would try and get a lift down with someone. I don't really know what to do but I'm going to have to say to her she'll need to get her own way here as I'm not sending my partner to get her immediately after the baby is here. Am I being unreasonable?
