OK this might be a stupid question but how do you know when your milk comes in? It will be day 3 for me tomorrow so I just want to know what to expect. (Toddler was formula fed for medical reasons but I’m determined to breastfeed the newborn).

Slinkyreptile · 09/10/2019 23:25

@frizzy1986 sending you hugs Flowers remember if the blues persist to go and see your gp. First time round I regretted not speaking out sooner than I did

Slinkyreptile · 09/10/2019 23:28

@HarryHarry although I won’t be using my milk your boobs become visibly bigger and uncomfortable then start to leak. Not sure how soon you can start using it though as both my babies have been formula fed. Sorry Not much help x

Frizzy1986 · 10/10/2019 01:35

@harryharry as slinky said your boobs will get much bigger and likely firmer.
I can feel the milk filling, it's like a tingly feeling which happens right before feeding time or when Orson starts to cry.

@slinkyreptile I've made sure I've mentioned it to my midwife and said at the moment I think it's just day 5+ hormone change but I will definitely speak to them if it doesn't clear in the next week.

Figuringitout · 10/10/2019 02:50

@HarryHarry - you wake up and you’re suddenly Pamela Anderson! My milk has kind of crept in this time (you also notice the nappies changing in colour and consistency- until pop looks like chicken korma) but tonight I’ve got the rock hard boobs and need breast pads so I think it’s in properly now.
Ada’s now back above birth weight so that’s also a sign that the milk is doing its job!

Figuringitout · 10/10/2019 02:54

@Frizzy1986 - look after yourself. I also regret not speaking out or asking for help sooner with my last baby. The perinatal team also said something to me, which really struck a chord; ‘A baby doesn’t need a perfect mum, but will really benefit from a happy one’. Baby blues are so normal, but just keep checking in and that you are ok.

Frizzy1986 · 10/10/2019 03:21

@figuringitout that's amazing she's already back at birth weight. She must be a really efficient feeder.
I'm hoping Orson will be by Monday when the midwife next visits, or that he'll at least be close.

secretlyhermione · 10/10/2019 06:37

Good morning ladies! Lovely to hear updates from the new mums, I'm hoping to join you soon! 39 weeks today so could happen at any moment. I feel very ready to meet the little one, in fact I need to try not to obsess too much about the due date which is next Thursday but it's hard not too! I have a midwife appointment the day after dd if the little bean hasn't shown up yet. Any tried and tested ways to get labour moving? I'm eating dates and bouncing on my ball when I can and try to go for a walk every day. If anyone recommends anything else I'm willing to try it (although I know baby will come when he/she is ready!)

Figuringitout · 10/10/2019 07:22

@secretlyhermione - I’m afraid that’s the answer, it will come when it is ready! There is lots of research/anecdote out there (and it feels good to be doing something to try and hurry baby up) but most conclude that unless baby is ready to come, then it won’t!
I know how frustrating it gets towards the end (I was 40+4 with this one, my longest pregnancy) but being relaxed and rested is actually a really good trigger for labour!

Frizzy1986 · 10/10/2019 08:05

@secretlyhermione I'd eaten a lot of pineapple the day before, but I genuinely think that was a coincidence. It will have done my body good having all that fruit though!

AngeIoMysterioso · 10/10/2019 08:23

Morning all!

Congratulations on your gorgeous baby @Ju5tAgirlstandinginfrontofaboy Grin

I’m starting to get so jealous of everyone whose wait is over... is it possible to get internal bruising from a baby pummelling your insides?

secretlyhermione · 10/10/2019 08:39

@Figuringitout @Frizzy1986 haha yes you're right. Trying to relax as much as possible, so hopefully will spur something on!! I also think I'll go passed the due date with this one as it's my first so really have to think of it as more than a week left.

gkeal3 · 10/10/2019 11:15

@AngeIoMysterioso me too! I'm on my fourth and never got to due date so really hoped this bay would be here by now (I'm 38+5)
I'm also getting very jealous of all these beaut newborns, I can't wait to meet our little bundle. This is our last now too so kind of wanting to really appreciate and love my bump whilst I have it as I know I'll miss it xx

YorkshireIndie · 10/10/2019 16:08

I was wondering the same thing about bruising @AngeIoMysterioso

Have spent the day eating mini Toblerone. Need this baby to come to stop my excuse for eating chocolate

HJWT · 10/10/2019 16:41

Hope we are all doing well! Definitely know what you mean @YorkshireIndie I keep eating and use the baby as an excuse 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well I got my date today, I am going in Sunday to be induced! Actually panicking a bit on the inside now though because this pregnancy has been SO different to DD I am worried I won't dilate with the gel and be there for days 😥

I got a tens machine today so hope that helps as last time the back labour was horrendous 😬 xx

secretlyhermione · 10/10/2019 16:50

@HJWT that's so exciting! Can I ask why you're being induced? Are you long over the due date?
I went to the cinema again today and had a lovely half hour walk in the sunshine there. Really enjoying the liberty of just walking in and watching a movie at 3pm which I've never done as I've worked full time up until now! Baby was moving so much during the movie that I was really uncomfortable. He or she is growing so large in there I can feel every turn and prod!

HJWT · 10/10/2019 17:08

@secretlyhermione Due to baby's size! My DD was born 8LB 9 at 38+9 (she is 3 now) and I had a scan last week at 37+5 and this baby was around 8LB 3 already so they said its up to me but they advise induction after 39 weeks with big baby's.

Especially with me as I lost a lot of blood with DD which is one of the risk's with a bigger baby xx

secretlyhermione · 10/10/2019 17:17

@HJWT understood! My friend had a very positive induction last Monday (also an October baby!) and also due to the fact her baby girl was quite big. You must be so excited!!
Anyone else feel like baby is about to fallout when they walk? I swear I always feel he/she is so close to coming out!

userabcname · 10/10/2019 18:00

Good luck @HJWT! My c section is on Monday, going in for 7am. Can't believe how quickly it's come round! Will be spending this weekend doing last minute jobs and a big clean of the house. Kind of dreading the op and being in hospital after last time but keeping fingers tightly crossed that it will all go much smoother and I'll be home quickly.

HJWT · 10/10/2019 18:10

@secretlyhermione As long as I am not waiting for 3 days for it to start ill be happy! In all honesty I just want to get home to my DD! Iv never been away from her

@KatnissK Thank you 🥰 Good luck to you also! I am sure it will be fine, electives always look so calm when they do them on the TV! Hopefully your recovery will go great to 😁 x

cattaxi · 10/10/2019 20:28

That’s exciting @HJWT. Like @KatnissK I’ve my section booked for Monday. Hopefully the 3 of us will have our babies by Monday night.

My bump is mega uncomfortable today. I’ve made it this far without stretch marks, but my skin feels like it’s going to burst this evening. I bet I get loads now on the last lap. My vulva is really sore & swollen too. Feels like I’ve been kicked by a donkey. Monday cannot come soon enough!

userabcname · 10/10/2019 20:31

Good luck @cattaxi, hope it all goes smoothly for you

cattaxi · 10/10/2019 20:40

You too @KatnissK! I’m getting super excited & super nervous. I think I’ll be an emotional wreck on Sunday.

Maryrobinson81 · 10/10/2019 20:55

Hope everyone with new babies are getting on ok, and those of us waiting are ok!
I spent today shopping for birthday presents for eldest, her birthday is end of October so wanted it all done. I was worn out after!
Bump feels super tight it hurts and baby is beyond wriggly! Feel like the movements are so low down At times that it’s the start of something as they make me feel crampy and uncomfortable. Then nothing for a while. Definitely need a warm bath tonight and some decent sleep for a change.
I can’t decide if I’m ready or happy to go over due! This will certainly be last baby - she’s number 4, it was a big surprise (but very happy) in the first place so I’ve mixed feelings about the end of pregnancy!
Also keep getting really hot all the time, anyone else had this? It’s a new one on me!

HJWT · 10/10/2019 21:14

@cattaxi I would much prefer he be here Monday morning! If it goes like last time I think I might jump out the window if I am in labour that long 😥🤣

@Maryrobinson81 Yes! I am constantly hot, I still had a fan in my room until recently then DH made me unplug it, he said I need to get used to not having it before baby comes and I can't have it! haha xx
