Starting a new thread for all of us that find ourselves pregnant again after one or more heartbreaking losses. I know it is really hard to join a pregnancy thread after miscarriage and we all fear the worst will happen again, but let's go on this journey together and hold hands along the way.

This is a safe place for all the ladies on the first pregnancy missed miscarriage thread and for any newcomers who want to join - you are all most welcome! All of the ladies on here have suffered one or more miscarriages and most of us have had particularly difficult losses, such as mmc and other complications. You don't need to be pregnant again to join - you are also most welcome if you have had a loss and are trying again. But we will be sharing scan photos and details of the new pregnancies, in case anyone might find that to be triggering.

Tagging @Catconfusion @Amanda81 @Kiki061190 @3204ECL @Babypending @Ginmonkey84 @MrsMGE and please add anyone else I may have left off. Without further ado, let's start the roll call.

About me: Age 31, trying for my first baby. Previous mmc at 12 weeks in February (hb stopped at 9+4), this turned out to be a partial molar pregnancy and I was monitored by CX hospital for three months. CP in March.

Now 9 weeks, EDD in March, if I make it that long. Oscillating between hope and extreme anxiety every day!

@Catconfusion also shivery at night! I wear a sweatshirt even though its the middle of summer.

Thanks @Amanda81, your advice always really helps me. I shouldn't say that I don't have symptoms - I am so tired I think I might fall over and have to sit/lie down all the time. Fatigue seems stronger now that I have hit 9 weeks. I also have a strong aversion to coffee and get a little nauseous when I'm hungry - which is all the time! I'm eating way more than last time. Skin is glowing and no acne at all this far, completely different experience from my mmc, which is a relief. Also no hair loss yet, which I also put down to the mmc last time. I think my boobs are three times the size of before and the bloating is actually noticeable as well, much more so than last time. Otherwise, strong sense of smell, headaches, extreme fatigue, always hungry. That all sounds pretty normal, right? The only thing I think I don't have is actual throwing up and the nausea is mild, if at all. Do symptoms usually get stronger around week 9, when hcg peaks?

OP posts:
Amanda81 · 11/08/2019 16:18

Sounds very similar to my symptoms @sadtoday21 - I think everyone's HCG levels will rise at different rates and all depends on the starting figures. Mine where quite high from the start, so think my symptoms where at their worst around 10 weeks. I was never actually sick, but at 10 weeks I had to leave a restaurant for fresh air as I though I might. Turned out that I think my trousers where too tight which apparently can make the sucky feeling worse. Unlike the MMC my symptoms gradually reduced this time over a couple of weeks, as opposed to a sudden stop which is what happened last time. By about week 12 I was feeling almost like my normal self, and by week 14 I was feeling better than I had in a long while. Of course when your symptoms start to reduce the negative thoughts and anxiety increases, so be mindful of that in a couple of weeks...I will he here to remind you that it is perfectly normal. Xx

Thatgirl123 · 11/08/2019 17:05

@Catconfusion I’m not sure about an early scan my partner wants us to wait until I’m 12 weeks

sadtoday21 · 11/08/2019 17:25

Thanks @Amanda81 I will need that reminder! My pants are already getting tight at the waist - what did you do about this? I’ve seen the bellyband thing but seems kind of like a waste of money. Not sure I’m ready for maternity clothes yet though. Thoughts?

OP posts:
Amanda81 · 11/08/2019 17:29

I have a little trick @sadtoday21 - if you where a trouser that has a button hole. Thread a bobble through the hole and then wrap the ends around the button. Not sure I explained that well...but if you have a go, you will get my gist. I didn't want to buy maternity clothes until after 12 week scan, but this little trick got me through to about 14 weeks. I have now had to start buying either a size up or over the bump trousers. All my tops are fine at the moment. If I haven't explained it well and you haven't a scooby what I mean, let me know. I will post an image...xxx

Amanda81 · 11/08/2019 17:29

Where - wear 🙄

Catconfusion · 11/08/2019 17:38

I’m actually getting a good nights sleep thanks @Amanda81 I’m so exhausted at bedtime and that’s after a 2/3 hour nap during the day. I don’t quite sleep through as need the toilet at about 3am usually. My mind feels very chilled at the moment. I’m practicing letting any negative or intrusive thoughts wash over me. I had some darker discharge today and I just rationalised the fact it’s the progesterone pessaries doing it and it’s not blood just as I was about to freak out. Xx

Hey @sadtoday21 I completely understand why you feel like you need to get past the point you did last time to feel ok. I would book a scan. I’ve not heard of home scanning machines before. I do wonder if it might cause more anxiety if something looks wrong. I guess if you had it during a key week it might help how you feel. If only our bellies were see through in pregnancy. Actually no that would be gross! Xx

Catconfusion · 11/08/2019 17:42

@Thatgirl123 How do you feel about waiting to 12 weeks? I’m sure if you’re feeling anxious your gp would refer you for a reassurance scan considering what you went through. Personally I feel like I want to know if something is wrong sooner rather than later so I don’t have the time to bond with the baby. I also worry about complications if the pregnancy progresses and the baby doesn’t. I had surgery last time and I wouldn’t want to go through that if I could avoid it. It’s such a personal choice. The chances of going through something so horrible again are pretty slim. Xx

Thatgirl123 · 11/08/2019 18:55

@Catconfusion I think I’ll see how I feel in a few weeks but so far I feel ok. I’m a little paranoid with the odd pain I get but I just want to enjoy my pregnancy x

Catconfusion · 11/08/2019 19:45

@Thatgirl123 it’s so annoying that a mmc makes enjoying a pregnancy so hard. If you can switch off and relax enough to enjoy than that’s great. I guess just keep in mind early pregnancy is such an uncertain time. Until we have a scan it’s difficult to know how things will progress. The odds are in our favour though after having a loss. Recurrent miscarriages are far less common than a loss then a healthy pregnancy. If you do feel anxious in a couple of weeks I’d have a scan xx

3204ECL · 12/08/2019 11:01

Morning all, I've caved and booked another scan for Wednesday 🤦🏽‍♀️

@Amanda81 wow I can't believe you're over the half way mark! Amazing and congratulations again. This stage really is difficult and I'm glad it's not just me who is finding it so hard. It just feels like such a long wait in between scans. I'm definitely starting to show now but until I can feel movement I don't think my anxiety will go away. How many scans did you have between 12 and 20?

@sadtoday21 how are you doing today?

@Kiki061190 @BabyPending great news on the tests, got everything crossed for you

@Catconfhopeusion hope you are coping ok with the symptoms

XXX

Amanda81 · 12/08/2019 11:08

Oh don't see it as caving @3204ECL - if it helps it's worth it. I can't believe it myself that I have got this far! I love waking up in the morning and just waiting for the first bit of movement from her...that won't be long for you now. Between the 12 and 20 week scan I had three scans. One at 14, one at 16 and one at 18. I was on holiday between the 16 and 18 and wanted to check all was okay before and after flying.

Let us know how your scan goes on Wednesday!

Xx

3204ECL · 12/08/2019 11:18

Thanks @Amanda81 will do. My 12 week scan was actually at 13 weeks and this week will be 15+1 so will see how I get on after that. I can't wait to feel baby move and also find out what we're having! Hopefully not too long now. xxx

mamaofboys82 · 12/08/2019 11:23

I'm 37 with 3 DC, 3, 5, 7. I had MC in March 1st time. I got pregnant very soon after. I waited a month then conceived 1st month trying. I'm now 16+3 and this pregnancy feels soo different than other 3 in how I actually feel. I'm not as excited as I was before and very gloomy constantly thinking something will go wrong and I will lose baby. I know this is completely normal but fear it's stopping me from connecting to baby. Anyone else felt this way?

sadtoday21 · 13/08/2019 08:50

@3204ECL totally understand why you would want another scan before 20 weeks. I think if you can hold out until 16 weeks, you might be able to see the gender then? If that’s something you want to do. If I make it that long, I might cave and pay for a private scan then. Hope you are well xxx.

@Kiki061190 @Catconfusion how are you ladies doing? Not too much longer until your scan now @Catconfusion!!

@BabyPending did you do any more tests yet?

@bananamonkey how are you holding up? Fx crossed this is a sticky one for you!

@Amanda81 thanks for the advice on the jeans issue! What is a bobble? I feel much more bloated than last time, so I think I will be needing this sooner. Have you bought any baby clothes yet?

Welcome @mamaofboys82 I’m very sorry for your loss. Almost all of us have had mmc on here and we are all very anxious about the new pregnancies too. Unfortunately, it really does ruin the magic of pregnancy (which I never got to experience really as I had the mmc with my first). I’m trying to enjoy it as much as possible though, despite the constant anxiety. The way you are feeling is completely normal.

I think I’m going to break down and get a scan at 10 weeks, still feeling very shaky. I hope everything is ok in there! Nervous again...

Hi ladies 💐 Sending you all a massive hug as I know very well how it feels and it’s really nice to talk to others in the same boat. I’m 30 years old and had a mmc last July where I found out at my 12 week scan that baby hadn’t progressed from 8 weeks. Biggest shock of my life as I had no signs that anything was wrong - my body didn’t want to let go. Had D&C procedure. After 5 agonising months of trying again (felt like years because of the grieving and I now have so much respect and empathy for couples that take months and years to conceive or have fertility issues) we conceived again and I am now 34 weeks pregnant will a little boy.

My anxiety throughout has been on and off and overwhelming at times. It’s that feeling of is this all too good to be true. I had an early scan at 9 weeks, followed by 12 & 20 and 2 additionals at 24 due to baby not playing ball! And a growth scan at 28. I will have one also at 37 weeks (bmi related). All is looking well, but my anxiety has returned a little. I love this little human inside me so much now that I am terrified absolutely terrified of something bad happening. I am trying to keep busy and keep it at bay but sometimes that can be easier said than done ❤️ I will continue with meditating and trying to be positive where I can.

Your all amazing and stronger than you think - I remember the first 3 months dragging of this pregnancy - and now I’m here! Good luck to all that are waiting to conceive or are pregnant with rainbow babes Xxxxx

BabyPending · 13/08/2019 10:26

@sadtoday21 thanks for checking in hun. I've tested so many times I'm driving myself mad! The FRER pic below is from yesterday (I'm testing FRER again tomorrow for progression) and the other pic is from today, I am 16DPO.

Can anyone offer an opinion on the line progression? I still feel they're pretty light for 16DPO :( please be brutally honest, I am really not getting my hopes up, my MC thoughts are taking over my emotions!! Xx

Catconfusion · 13/08/2019 11:08

@BabyPending it looks like some progression there so hopefully all ok. I’d worry more if they stayed the same in line thickness. Definitely getting darker. Fingers crossed.

Just checking in to say not much happening at the moment. My dental surgery got postponed until I’m further along. Though the dentist is making me a mouth guard and giving me a white filling for free because I’m pregnant.

I’m five weeks today and still feeling pretty positive. My stomach is still bad with the diarrhoea. I’m waiting for my gp to call me back and let me know if there’s anything I can take. For now I’m just keeping hydrated and eating plenty of fibre.

I hope you’re all doing well ladies. Those having extra scans I really don’t blame you. Anything to ease the anxiety. Xx

Kiki061190 · 13/08/2019 11:19

@sadtoday21 thanks for asking after me ♥️ I’m doing ok just not feeling any symptoms apart from a delicate tummy. @Catconfusion do you have any symptoms? I literally don’t feel pregnant at all!

Kiki061190 · 13/08/2019 11:20

@BabyPending that looks like some good progression to me! ♥️♥️♥️

Catconfusion · 13/08/2019 12:31

@Kiki061190 the nausea has kicked in first thing. I’m also very tired. My tummy is also very upset. I spoke to the doctor who’s advised me just to keep hydrated. I wouldn’t worry about lack of symptoms as it’s still quite early and with some pregnancies there just aren’t any. I understand you want to feel different though. Xx

@Babycakes1989 I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes quickly and with ease. Xx

So last week I had a scan that was arranged before my pregnancy to check my ovaries due to one sided pain. The sonographer has a poker face and it was like getting blood out of a stone getting any reassurance. She just said my lining showed pregnancy. Anyway my gp has told me today the gestational sac was seen on the scan and it’s in the right place. I can’t believe she didn’t show me or tell me. I am however relieved and over the moon all is looking good so far. Xx

sadtoday21 · 13/08/2019 14:18

oh wow @Catconfusion how could she not tell you that? That is beyond ridiculous, it's just cruel. Knowing the sac is in the right place is a critical first step. Very happy for you!

@Babycakes1989 thanks for sharing your story with us and I'm really sorry for your previous loss as well. Your story is very similar to mine and I really hope we both get our happy endings this time around. I guess the anxiety never really goes away until our babies are born - and even then we will be anxious, just for other reasons! Wishing you a happy and healthy rest of your pregnancy xxx.

@BabyPending you definitely have some good line progression. I will say that my 14 dpo test (on rapid results, so 100 hcg threshold) was a lot darker, but I think it really just depends on when ovulation and implantation takes place. So you can really only compare with yourself and you definitely are progressing in the right direction!

@Kiki061190 I know what you mean - I just want to feel pregnant already! I do feel some strong symptoms though - extreme fatigue, very hungry, not able to function in the evenings, lots of bloating, and huge boobs. The symptoms took awhile to come though, so I am sure you will start feeling it in the next few weeks!

@Catconfusion did you say you take probiotics for pregnancy? Does that help with the bloating/constipation? I literally cannot button my jeans now at the waist, a far cry from the last pregnancy when I just kept losing weight, but I'm happy about it if the baby is healthy. And @Amanda81 I think I figured out the trick to it! I tied a hair elastic through the button and looped it on the other side, magic! No maternity jeans yet for me :).

Kiki061190 · 13/08/2019 14:27

@sadtoday21 I seem to have totally had a mind blank in terms of my last pregnancy. I can’t remember how I felt at this point back then! I feel no different apart from tiredness so hoping that maybe in the next few weeks I start to feel different!

Catconfusion · 13/08/2019 14:31

Thanks @sadtoday, it’s just very confusing so I’m just not thinking about it. Who knows why she wouldn’t tell us about the sac. I really wanted to see it. We were just told thick lining. Anyway I’m pretty grateful as definitely not ectopic.

Yes I take probiotics. My doctor said safe and very good if tummy problems are an issue. I went with these ones...www.<a class="break-all" href="https://amazon.co.uk/Proven-Probiotics-Lactobacillus-Pregnancy-Capsules/dp/B016RZQWL2/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?s=gateway&keywords=pregnancy%20probiotics&qid=1565702837&sr=8-3&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-pregnancy-3661832-Pregnancy-after-Miscarriage" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">amazon.co.uk/Proven-Probiotics-Lactobacillus-Pregnancy-Capsules/dp/B016RZQWL2/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=pregnancy+probiotics&qid=1565702837&s=gateway&sr=8-3

Apparently they are best taken with water on an empty stomach about 30 minutes before food. I’ve only been on them about 10 days so not sure if they are working. Worth a try though. They were part of a big trial proving effectiveness and very good for baby. Xx

3204ECL · 13/08/2019 18:13

@Catconfusion great news today on the pregnancy being in the right place and all looking good so far 🥰 Very frustrating about the previous scan, but like you say best not to think about it. One thing you said to me many many weeks back was 'today you are pregnant' which was something that really stuck with me in the early says and I would regularly say it to myself or out loud when I was feeling anxious (in truth most times I went to the toilet!) so I'm saying it back to you now in the hope it brings the same comfort! Today you are pregnant xxx
