Hello everyone,
My husband (36 yo) and I (35 yo) have been trying to conceive for 6 months and yesterday, 3 days before my period was due, I took an early pregnancy test at home... and it came back positive! Today I'm 3 weeks + 5 days.
We're both over the moon, however now I'm starting to worry that I tested too early and this may end up in a miscarriage. :(
I'm literally worrying over any sign of discomfort, cramp, etc. I'm even worried my cough may dislodge my little sprout! Is anyone going through the same?

We have our booking appointment with the midwife team tomorrow.

Anyone any advice or tips of questions to be asking, stuff to find out if they don’t tell us.
As it is our first and most of our friends had theirs a good few years ago we are at a total loss of what to expect.

@Cakelaur so so sorry to hear that. It happened to me in September I found out just under 10 weeks that there was no heartbeat. It's the worst thing I have ever had to go through and is so so hard. Stay strong time is a healer you never get over it but you learn to deal with it. Wishing you all the best for the future. I am now pregnant again and not a day goes by that I don't think it's going to happen again I just pray it doesn't. Stay strong and I wish you all the best x

Gem173 · 18/01/2018 20:13

@caklaur
I’m so sorry for you loss, words cannot describe how devastated you must feel. I’m toying with the idea of a 8 week scan, was there any sign to make you have one yourself? Sending love and my condolences xx

Cakelaur · 18/01/2018 22:11

Thank you for your messages ladies. There wasn’t really too much of a sign. My sickness died down a little but my body still full thought it was pregnant. My boobs ached I was exhausted. I fainted in the shower on Sunday and had very mild pink spotting which made me think something was wrong. But everything pointed to it being totally normal. Up until the removed the baby today my body still thought u was pregnant. Strangely my boobs have already stopped hurting, the cramps since the op have died down as has the bleeding. So looks like my body is already dealing better than my mind. All I can say is listen to your bodies. They know best. Best of luck ladies. Xx

Bless you @Cakelaur it is so so sad. Give yourself time to grieve and take your time in getting yourself better. Xx

Hi everyone, I just wanted to update you all and let you know that I unfortunately had a missed miscarriage. I had stopped feeling any symptoms at around 6-7 weeks and felt there was something wrong but every time I googled it I had some positive answer like ‘placenta taking over’, so tried to put it to the back of my mind and not think about it. Yesterday I had brown spotting and mild cramping, and we decided to go to A&E. They did an external scan and they could see two gestational sacks, one very small the other one larger, but there was no heart beat and the doctor measured the baby at 6-7 weeks instead of 9+4, which I should have been. I had to go back today to the EPU for an internal scan and they confirmed that we have lost the pregnancy. I’ll go on Friday to have the tissue surgically removed and then start moving on from there.
I’m not posting this to scare you, the doctor said we were just unlucky but when this happens so early in pregnancy it means the pregnancy was not viable. My advice to all of you would be to make sure you listen to your body and if there’s anything you’re not happy with, just go and get seen.
I wish you all the very best and hope you have a healthy happy pregnancy! Love xxx

@Gaby1982 so so sorry for your loss. It is so heartbreaking. Wishing you all the best in the future xx

Gem173 · 29/01/2018 15:27

@Gaby1982 I’m so sorry for your loss :( I just been to my 1st midwife appt and although I have sore boobs etc I have virtually no symptoms. She said it was normal. I guess you never know until you have your first scan or a sign like spotting. I really wish you the best of luck for your next pregnancy. Take care of yourself. X

ladybirdno1 · 30/01/2018 14:39

Hi all I'm so sorry to hear about the recent losses ❤️
I had my first midwife apt today and I ended up breaking down a couple of times around personal questions asked. It might sound silly but I think combination of hormones and the personal questions I found a bit overwhelming and didn't find my midwife particularly emotionally available. I also had a student nurse observing who was v nice but it all added to it I think. I've been feeling so tired and struggling with sickness and didn't find it very supportive. Have my first scan this afternoon x

Gem173 · 30/01/2018 18:01

@ladybirdno1
Aw I felt the same, swear all midwives at booking appt just never show emotion! Hope your scan went well x

ladybirdno1 · 30/01/2018 18:31

@Gem173 that's reassuring to know! I think at the scan they said I'm roughly showing as 11 weeks +2 so midwife said I needed to come have the scan again next week as she couldn't see the brain, bladder or umbilical cord today. Was really cool to see little one. At times baby's features seemed really clear, until the midwife took the picture and captured baby looking like a blob Hmm

Gem173 · 30/01/2018 20:21

@ladybirdno1
Nice to hear it went well and you saw the baby :) also nice to know you get another scan because of what they couldn’t see however I’m sure everything is fine! I haven’t been to my scan yet waiting for a letter through which says my date :) can’t wait tho! Were you scared of it being a missed miscarriage ? I am terrified as I know it is completely possible. Not to mention my midwife didn’t really reassure me about it. Just hoping everything’s okay :)

ladybirdno1 · 30/01/2018 21:13

@Gem173 no I didn't think that. I think to be honest because I have been suffering so much with sickness etc so was still getting symptoms. Hopefully everything is ok. No point in worrying, so will just wait and see. Midwife said baby had strong heart beat so I think it was just early

Gem173 · 31/01/2018 07:47

@ladybirdno1 oh I bet it’s nice to have symptoms, I don’t have hardly any so it’s prob why I worry a lot about it

SPARKS17 · 05/02/2018 18:12

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to pop in and see how everyone is getting on.

@Gaby1982 and @Cakelaur I’m so sorry for your losses it broke my heart to read about them.

I have suffered from what I am affectionately calling "first trimester pregnancy paranoia” since finding out I was pregnant and finally gave in and booked a private scan at 10 weeks last week. I had a few close friends find out they had missed miscarriages at their first scan so I wanted to know either way. Was thrilled to see a) there was a baby in there and b) baby had a heartbeat and kicky arms and legs. It was my first (ever) scan so a fascinating experience and I’ve got lots or photos to look at!

The sonographer measured the baby (which I hadn’t been expecting) and she had me down as 13 weeks rather than 10 weeks. That was a big surprise as I had been tracking my cycle and temping in an app so I knew the exact date of my last period. I quickly realised that my “12 week” scan was booked in for mid February and by that point I would be 15 weeks and too late to do the nuchal scan. Thankfully I was able to get a cancellation the next day at the hospital where the sonographer confirmed I was 13 weeks and was able to do the nuchal test.

So in 2 days I managed to progress 3 weeks through my pregnancy which was quite nice! Due date has gone from 25th August to the 5th!

Anyone got their first scans coming up soon?

abbeyb123 · 05/02/2018 19:00

Hi @SPARKS17 that's good that you have missed out a few weeks. I've had 3 scans upto now 1 at 5 weeks as they thought it was ectopic and 1 private at 8 wks 6 days. Then one last week as I had some brown discharge this morning I woke up and had some actual red blood and have pain all day. They won't scan me as I only had one last week. I've got my 12 week scan this Friday so have to wait till then I'm just past myself something has happened and I'm not gonna find out till Friday. I had a missed miscarriage last September so I'm just so worried about it all. The other 3 scans have been fine but because I'm still under 12 weeks I'm beside myself with worry which isn't good for me or the baby 😔

DogsandBaby · 05/02/2018 20:03

Hi all,
Late to find the group but I'm due 23rd August and glad to find some ladies in my same situation! Having my dating scan this Thursday and already ramping up for a breakdown with the nerves. Anyone else in the same boat this week?

SPARKS17 · 05/02/2018 20:06

Oh @abbeyb123 I'm so sorry you are going through this, was it your midwife you spoke to or the hospital? Have you been bleeding all day or was it just this morning? Do you think you could push for an earlier scan this week instead of going on Friday, they might have a cancellation and could see you earlier. Its definitely worth asking.

When I was worrying about the chances of miscarriage I find some stats from the Miscarriage association:

"Research amongst women with a history of recurrent miscarriage has shown that those who saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks of pregnancy had a 78% chance of the pregnancy continuing. It also showed that seeing a heartbeat at 8 weeks increased the chance of a continuing pregnancy to 98% and at 10 weeks that went up to 99.4%."

It put it into perspective for me that at 10 weeks your chances of the pregnancy continuing are very good. I know I always plan for the worst but hope for the best, so I have my fingers crossed that it will be ok for you.

The other thing I just thought of is I have been watching a lot of pregnancy videos on youtube and Louise Pentland did one on a bleed in pregnancy. She explains what happened to her and all her concerns, and she has just given birth to the baby where she experienced that bleed whilst pregnant.

I know its so hard but try not to worry, pregnancy is so out of our hands we have to trust our bodies that they are doing what they need to do. I would definitely try and bring your scan forward if you can xx

SPARKS17 · 05/02/2018 20:12

Hi @dogsandbaby welcome!!

The countdown to the first scan is the worst!! I was literally knocking each day of the calendar. The sense of relief after, heaven!!!

Is this your first scan/baby?

Ps. Do you have dogs too? I have one and she is so naughty I have 6 months to retrain her in preparation for the incoming pack member!

DogsandBaby · 05/02/2018 20:24

First pregnancy, scan at 8 weeks all good, saw a lovely little heartbeat so all fingers and toes are crossed that it'll all be the same! And with the horrendous sickness and feeling so awful I'm in need of good news.
I have 2 small dogs that definitely are not going to take to not being the babies anymore!

abbeyb123 · 05/02/2018 20:36

@SPARKS17 thank you so much that's so lovely of you to post all that information. You've set me off crying again lol. The bleed was just this morning when I first went to the toilet the pain has been all day. It was the hospital I spoke to I rang the ward which is the early assessment unit. I'm just an absolute nervous wreck. My own midwife was supposed to be ringing me this aft but she didn't ring so I've just been panicking all day. I just find it so hard to stay positive when I've been in this situation before it's so difficult 😔 xx

SPARKS17 · 05/02/2018 20:47

@abbey123 oh I can only imagine how awful today has been, but probably a good sign that the bleed was only this morning. When I moved my scan appointment I rang the number on my 12 week scan letter does that have a different number than the EPU? See how you feel in the morning but don't be afraid to push for another scan if there is more bleeding xx

abbeyb123 · 05/02/2018 21:04

@SPARKS17 yeah that's what I'm hoping that it's a good sign there's no more bleeding. No it's a different number I might ring them tomorrow and see if there's any cancellations to get in for an early scan xx

Gem173 · 06/02/2018 07:49

@abbeyb123 I really hope it isn’t worst case scenario. Sending love and hugs, keep us updated.

First scan 12 weeks next tues !
Can’t wait but am so nervous! Haven’t had any private scans so not sure if it’s got a heart beat or not. Have had no pains or bleeds so hoping for the best ! Xx

abbeyb123 · 06/02/2018 09:50

@Gem173 thank you very much. I'll keep you updated I've tried changing my scan but they can't change it so it's on Friday. Will let you all no how it goes xx
