After the inital shock of finding out I am pregnant again, I have started bleeding today. Phoned the emergancy gp and of course he said that it could be a miscarriage, so he tried to get me an appointment at the EPU but noone is there, so I have to phone my gp tomorrow.. I have a very slight pain on my right hand side, and the bleeding is light. I asked about ectopic pregnancy and he said I would be in serevre pain, which I am not.

How long have you been bleeding? I bled quite a lot (so I thought was AF) then gradually less and less for about 10 days. And had crampy period-type pains. And yet all was well. Really really hoping for a happy outcome for you.

SparklyGothKat · 03/01/2007 21:01

been bleeding for 3 days on and off. The pain is less than my period pains

Sparkly, sorry that things are still uncertain. am reluctant to pull rank on PinkElephant who i know is still grieving but i've had two ectopics and unfortunately i know quite a bit about it and i'd say you can lie if you want...

they can't diagnose anything on the basis of your pain as it's so personal, it's a scan or serial Beta HCGs you need. unless of course you are doubled over and losing blood into your abdomen from a burst fallopian tube... but no normal person wants it to get that far, just stony-hearted NHS receptionists.

frankly when it comes to EPs doctors are frighteningly unclued-up. there was a girl on here a few weeks ago who was half an hour from death and it was the urgings of MNers who alerted her to the possibility that she had an EP and got her to the hospital... she'd been seen by her GP, a gynae and two hospital docs and had her Beta hcgs done and been told the pregnancy was fine. this despite all the classic warning signs.

You should be fine to wait for your scan at 6 weeks, but for the record with both of my eps (and i am NOT saying that you have an ep) i had a dull ache, never a sharp or severe pain...

that's why i think that if you want to lie and push for a scan, then you bloody well should. (but that's my personal and unfortunately hard-won opinion )

littleducks · 03/01/2007 21:26

agree with aitch, severe pain is a classic sympton, my friend nearly lost fallopian tube as she had dull ache the collapsed when it ruptured, everyone feels things differently

i had toal opposite, told pregnancy was ectopic, dd is 71/2 months now

littleducks · 03/01/2007 21:28

sorry mean to say severe pain is classic sympton, some women have very different experience

AitchTwoOhOhSeven · 03/01/2007 21:29

now that's a good ending, littleduck! hopefully SKG will be saying that same-ish thing to someone on here in 16 or so months' time.

FestivelyFoggyFloss · 03/01/2007 21:32

Oh no SGK. I hope things are going to be ok. I had a m/c a few months ago now, reasonable amounts of blood but I can completely relate to the stop start bleeding. Seemed so cruel. FWIW, our GP's don't refer to EPU before 6 weeks. I m/c at 5 weeks and they advised me to take a pregnancy test a week after I started bleeding. One way of finding out a bit quicker than the scan date at least. I hope it all works out ok for you.

SparklyGothKat · 04/01/2007 00:25

was the pain on and off? It feels like my period pain, but not as painful. All gone away again, no bleeding or pain.

OP posts:
AitchTwoOhOhSeven · 04/01/2007 00:27

it was on and off, definitely. and a kind of dull ache, nothing more dramatic.

AitchTwoOhOhSeven · 04/01/2007 00:29

and i think it was more to one side than the other. although i've got to say that i had exactly the same pain with my successful pregnancy, so there is really no way of knowing. and i had bleeding with my successful pregnancy... it was a bloody nightmare, actually.

SparklyGothKat · 04/01/2007 00:32

Its mainly on my right side but something spreads across my stomach. I know I had pain and bleeding with my pregancy with DS, it was terrible.

how are things today SGK?

SparklyGothKat · 04/01/2007 11:42

Ended up at A&E today as the pain got worse. They took my blood and did a pregnancy test which was postive. Poked and prodded my tummy, gave me painkillers. Tried to move my scan to today, which they couldn;t do and sent me home. I said time and again, that I was worried it was ectopic and the doctor said she didn't think it was, she said its either a miscarriage or pregnancy pains!! But she doesn;t think it is really a misacarriage because the loss of blood is so small. So I now have to wait till monday for my scan.

and with you

VeniVidiVickiQV · 04/01/2007 11:45

Oh bugger sgk

I have to say, I dont think they'd see anything at this early stage, I really dont.

lulumama · 04/01/2007 11:46

outrageous! they didn;t check the baby is in utero ???? what were your HCG levels doing. ? aitch is really excellent at all this..hope she is around and sees this

so, despite pain, bleeding, taking the MAP, you have not really been checked for an ectopic??

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 04/01/2007 11:47

That's f-ing dreadful SGK!! how awful for you too

UCM · 04/01/2007 11:47

Would there be any point in attending another a&e if you can. Explain that you are worried that its EP and need a second opiniion as you are frightened of collapse.

I have had an EP, there wasn't much blood and my sister had 2 where her tubes ruptured. They really should have checked you on a scan. Good luck.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 04/01/2007 11:48

this makes me so angry.

Not sure if you have read my story but I have been dragged through the mill for 4 weeks being similiarly fobbed off.

When will your HCG be ready? and will you be going back in in 48 hours to see if it has doubled?

If they scanned you, now your 5 weeks they should definitely be able to see if the pregnancy sac is in the womb.

SparklyGothKat · 04/01/2007 11:50

I know, I am scared that I could collaspe and die! What if it is a EP and it bursts? I have pain in my right side and overnight it spread down my leg and through to my back. I could go to another A&E but its quite far. When she was pressing my tummy, it did hurt on my left and across the top of my womb too,.

OP posts:
SparklyGothKat · 04/01/2007 11:51

Not sure if they even checked my HCG levels, i know they took blood, but didn;t say what it was from.

UCM · 04/01/2007 11:53

Go back and demand a scan. Or phone your GP and tell them that you have serious doubts and ask them to refer you to the EPU by phoning them up and demanding that you have a scan. Have you got someone who can go with you who will give em hell!!

Another a&e would probably be better though.

UCM · 04/01/2007 11:54

As someone who has had one before, with allof my pgs they do an internal to check along the tubes for lumps/bumps.

SparklyGothKat · 04/01/2007 11:57

I have the EPU number but I did speak to them the other day and they said that they would not see me until 6 weeks, which is monday. The bleeding has stopped again, but the pain is there all the time now, but dips up and down in stregth.
