After the inital shock of finding out I am pregnant again, I have started bleeding today. Phoned the emergancy gp and of course he said that it could be a miscarriage, so he tried to get me an appointment at the EPU but noone is there, so I have to phone my gp tomorrow.. I have a very slight pain on my right hand side, and the bleeding is light. I asked about ectopic pregnancy and he said I would be in serevre pain, which I am not.

GP said it was unlikely to be a miscarriage because the lost is so slight and I have passed no clots. Pain has gone and when I wipe i have a tiny tiny smear of brownish blood like at the end of a period.

I have my fingers crossed for you too.... what can the EPU do? isn't it too early for a scan?

SparklyGothKat · 02/01/2007 11:37

no idea, all I know is I have to wait for them to phone me...

EPU will first do a pregnancy test and as long as coms back still positve will then scan you, I had early scans at 6 and 7 weeks pg. They are usually internal at this stage. My 7 week one wasnt though and we got a clear picture of the heart beat over my belly.
Good luck sparklygothkat

SparklyGothKat · 02/01/2007 11:39

when I had a missed miscarriage before, they gave me an interal scan, I was 8 weeks but the baby was the size of a 5 week old, and we were able to see it, but I lost it the next day

SPK - I had the same sort of bleeding after you each time dh and I had sex during early pg - only happened twice then we both got too scared to do it! When I saw the midwife she said it could be a sign of placenta praevia so we should hold off until 12 week scan. Hope you get your appointment soon.
BTW ds is 2yrs in a few weeks!

megandsoph · 02/01/2007 11:41

Sparkly the bleedings happening, right when implantaion happens and embryo is snuggling up in the womb which can cause the spotting.

Hope all is well

glittercaz · 02/01/2007 11:43

had to post when I saw this. i had an implantation bleed at about 5 weeks - I actually thought it was my period and got a big surprise when i got a positive test a week or so later. I worried at the time as i thought it meant something mght be wrong with the pregnancy but all was fine.

i am now ten and a half weeks, and on new years eve i had some bleeding. got into a complete panic and raced over to the A&E. to cut a long story short, they did a scan and all was well. I was told by the doctor they see about 20 women A DAY with first trimester bleeding - it is very very common indeed. I was told that as long as you're not in agonizing pain and the bleeding is not heavy you are most likely to be fine. obviously get it checked out though, go to the A&E/epu if the gp is dragging his feet, it is their job to help you.

thoughts are with you and try not to worry xxx

VeniVidiVickiQV · 02/01/2007 11:50

bleeding doesnt sound serious, and pain could be a corpus luteum cyst on your ovary - which everyone gets in pg but some cause some people discomfort - it did to me in both pgs - its similar to the ovulation pains i get and apparently if you get ov pains you are likely to get pain from this too.

Definitely worth having it checked out though - for reassurance.

SparklyGothKat · 02/01/2007 12:19

I had one of those cysts on my ovary when I was pregnant with dd1, it grew to 8cm big, so I suppose I could have another one.

SGK - I had bleeding at the very start of my first pg that was heavy enough to make me think I was having a period (didn't know I was pg). Then I got a very sharp pain in one side. Then for some reason I did a pg test and it was positive. My GP sent me for an early scan. Think I was about 6 weeks. They could see a little dot on the picture but no heartbeat. So had to go back for another scan at 8 weeks. All was well. But nervewracking at the time, esp. the two weeks between the two scans. Thinking of you ... have really only posted this to say if a heartbeat can't be found, try not to worry too much.

SparklyGothKat · 02/01/2007 13:07

the EPU said they wouldn;t see me till I was 6 weeks, which is monday. Don't know how I am going to get there, as DH will need my car to get the kids to school, and I can't drive his car. Maybe my mum will come and get me...

Glad you've got an appointment. I hope you sort out transport. (Why can't you drive dhs car)

SparklyGothKat · 02/01/2007 13:12

I just struggle with it, the gears in a different place, the pedals are really close together, and its heavy to drive..

Glad you got an appt ... and sounds like everything is settling down - hurray! Hope all goes smoothly til 8th...

SparklyGothKat · 02/01/2007 13:17

Boobs are still sore, I have had to put on a materity bra today, just to support them, and also my normal bras dont fit as my boobs have expaned.

SparklyGothKat · 02/01/2007 13:20

the loss is a small amount, the GP doesn;t think it was a miscarriage, so he wants me to book myself in next week after the scan..

Have you tried calling NHS Direct? I called them on a Saturday morning and I was seen by an emergency doctor at a central clinic in town and then had a scan on the monday...I was 12 weeks though.
At the end of the day, as you probably are aware, the advice that they will give you is to stay as horizontal as possible and not do much.
Hope its all ok for you
