After the inital shock of finding out I am pregnant again, I have started bleeding today. Phoned the emergancy gp and of course he said that it could be a miscarriage, so he tried to get me an appointment at the EPU but noone is there, so I have to phone my gp tomorrow.. I have a very slight pain on my right hand side, and the bleeding is light. I asked about ectopic pregnancy and he said I would be in serevre pain, which I am not.

SparklyGothKat,

have you had sex, could it be cervical bleeding?

I'm sorry but that is bullshit that they are telling you to wait till tomorrow. Go to the emergency room and tell them to get their asses in gear, and help you.

lulumama · 01/01/2007 18:40

with all due respect to the GP-- by the time you are in severe pain, you could be in real trouble

bleeding and pain on one side must be checked out ASAP....

PeachysaysBlwyddynNewyddDda · 01/01/2007 18:51

I agree about going to A&E, if at all possible (I know how hard it is to organise the kids and have skipped going myself when i should rather than take ds1).

You could also call NHS direct

SparklyGothKat · 01/01/2007 19:37

well, pain has stopped and bleeding has stopped too.
I did have sex night before last.

Hope all is ok. I had heavy bleeding with DD1 twice (22 and 24 wks) and all was fine in the end. Mine was cervial so could be that. We had to stop sex for whole of pregnancy and I had to take things easy. Take care.

misdee · 01/01/2007 20:02

have them check for erosions if possibly kat, sis gets them doesnt she?

PeckaRolloverAgain · 01/01/2007 20:06

Unfortunately after my experience Im currently pretty clued up with early scans, bleeding, ectopic etc

If it were to be ectopic (god forbid) you should be ok waiting til morning AS LONG AS PAIN GETS NO WORSE as it is very, very rare for them to rupture before about 7/8 weeks - its normally later.

Bleeding is very, very normal.

For 5 weeks they may see nothing at all on the scan. They could probably see a gestational sac but dont worry too much if they dont.

If they do see a sac and maybe a yolk sac it will be great news.

Nothing shows on a scan until the HCG levels go over 1000 so depending on if they have or not - the scan could be empty even though everything is fine.

I really, really hope everything is ok for you.

i meant there that bleeding can be very normal, happens alot to normal pregnancies.

hoohoo · 01/01/2007 20:12

Hi i started bleeding on friday just 7 weeks. Bleeding on wiping and slight pains. My epu couldn't see me til wednesday!!! I got sent to the gynae ward and had a scan there. So maybe if you went to hospital they would send you to a gynae ward. Just a thought. Fingers crossed for you xx

ShowOfHands · 01/01/2007 20:15

Yes the same as hoohoo, was sent to gynae ward immediately after landing at A&E.

Sex could be the problem especially if it is a cervical erosion- which it was with me.

Agree with others, if pain starts up again or if you pass clots, straight to hospital, no hesitation.

SparklyGothKat · 01/01/2007 20:41

the pain wasn't like when I miscarriaged before, just a dull ache, its stopped now so fingers crossed

bleeding is still there slightly, more browny red now. I actually wonder if I am further gone than I thought as I can;t get on some of my trousers now and MIsdee thought that I had either ate too much over xmas or am further gone too. I haven't put on any weight yet but my tummy is getting bigger.

she has a difinate bump, tis true!

SparklyGothKat · 01/01/2007 21:25

I did tell the doc that I had taken the MAP and it had failed, because I know that I am more at risk of an ectopic that normal, and that I had one sided pain, but he was quite blase about it.

Kat - just to give you some more positive stories - I bled with both of my pregnancies - with ds had very similar bleeding to what you are describing from week 5/6 to week 34!! They eventually diagnosed cervical erosion at week 34... Early bleeding I also had cramps.
With dd bled only a few times but mostly early in pg

My two bessie mates also bled early in pregnancy - it IS common and not nec bad news ... but it's totally pants of them to have made you wait for scan - finger and toes all crossed for you for tomorrow

xx

(NB the other people to talk to are NHS Direct - they were brill with my first preg - I got to the stage where I'd call them rather than faff around going to see GP.... They are really supportive - perhaps because more nurse than doctor types)

SparklyGothKat · 01/01/2007 22:49

Bleeding has been on and off since 3pm, very light, and now seems to have stopped, thats a good sign, isn;t it??

OP posts:
SparklyGothKat · 02/01/2007 00:30

its has stopped now for sure.. I am hoping that everything is ok

MerryChipmonkAndAHappyNewey · 02/01/2007 00:48

That's a very good sign, SGK! Just to say I bled all the way throught my last pg. I had placenta praevia but my ObGyn said that wouldn't have been the cause of the earlier bleeding. Ds3 is fine, very stubborn but fine!

SparklyGothKat · 02/01/2007 00:51

I know when I miscarried in 1999 that I bled for days, and it was like a period, whereas this is so slight.

blooming heck, have just searched for our gp's opening hours, and I have to phone between 8-8:30am to get an emergancy appointment, I bet I won't get through....

OP posts:
carol3 · 02/01/2007 01:05

sorry your going through this stress , I bled in all my early preg to,
like you, very slight and only lasted for a couple of days.
just keep pressing redail until you get through, our gps is like this you have to ring at 8.30 on the dot to get through.
by 8.35 all the appointments have gone

I had this it turned out i was having twins but one didnt make it and i did miscarry soon after BUT i continued with this bleed carry on for months on and off and my dd is now ten and asleep in her bed.
So whilst obviously some was bad for us other bleeds that continued were inconsiquiential ( i know it is spelt wrong) and resulted in 8lbs 13oz baby girl perfect in every way.Good luck xx

wilkie50 · 02/01/2007 09:50

Sparklygothkat - have my fingers and toes crossed for you. I was in exactly the same situation as you last year, took morning after pill, still managed to be pregnant but sadly started bleeding at 5.5 weeks, no pain for a week then it was like a heavy period, (after I had got my head round it and was excited) and had a miscarriage. Dr said that liklihood was the morning after pill had stopped the embryo implanting properly (sorry to put this but I think it is important to know both the positives and negatives). Went for a scan at 5.5 weeks and they couldn't see anything, had another one booked for a week later but didn't need that one.

However, this time round it was planned but I atill bled at 6 weeks and 8 weeks but everything turned out to be normal. My scan at 6 weeks showed the sac and the heartbeat.

I really hope everything goes well for you and you get a positive outcome.

xxxxx
