9 days late but neg tests.....

Hi,

Im 9 days late and with no cramps. usually my periods are spot on so im confused with this one. Thing is my pregnancy tests have all been Neg. I had a nasty water infection for which i got "pregnancy friendly" anti-biotics for and finished them almost a week ago.

Could this be the reason i am so late?

Does it look hopeful i may be pregnant?

I have been told to go and get a blood test @ the docs but how long does it take for the results?

Many thanks for any advice,

babylove- is there any way you could see another doctor. Hi comment about it doesnt really matter if you are or not, is also not correct you could lodge a complaint, there is nothing stopping him sending you for either an internal scan to investigate or the blood tests as we mentioned b4. Do you have an early pregnancy unit near you..

MerryMegandSnowySoph · 20/12/2006 18:38

Not sure if this will help? A link about missed periods.

MerryMegandSnowySoph · 20/12/2006 18:40

well what happened to the link

Still no news sweetie?

wannaBeOnTopOfTheChristmasTree · 20/12/2006 21:58

Babylove, I?m sorry to hear that your appointment didn?t go as you?d hoped. But, and again I do realize this maybe isn?t what you want to hear, I do think that the doctor has a point. Generally hospitals no longer do routine blood tests for pregnancy as urine tests are seen to be accurate enough to detect the pg hormone. If a urine test is negative, then it generally means that the woman is not pregnant, and it is only occasionally that this turns out to be wrong. It is therefore not considered to be a necessary test to perform. Ultrasounds (especially internal scans) are expensive. This is why some health authorities still don?t even offer 12 week scans to pregnant women unless they are at risk of certain birth defects/disabilities. Most ultrasound departments are understaffed as it is, and it?s hard enough to fit in patients who have problems with their pregnancies. If you are pregnant, then this will become apparent in time, not knowing isn?t something that is putting you at risk in any way. You need to take the positives from the negatives, if you are pregnant, then the longer you take to find out, the less time you have to worry about getting to 12 weeks so you can tell everyone. Tbh, I think you are probably not pregnant, and if you don?t get a period in 10 days or so, then I would suggest you go to your gp and get some blood tests for thyroid function etc, as this is also something that can mess with your cycle.

3Ddonut · 20/12/2006 22:46

Hi Babylove, a lot of what was said in the last message is valid (from the medics point of view) and these tests are expensive, if you are pg, then the time until your due date will be shorter! (because you've waited so long to find out) how do you feel in your heart of hearts? I find that's often the best way.... it's so frustrating for you, but please keep in mind, if it's not this time, it will be one time!!!! Still thinking of you!

babylove123 · 20/12/2006 22:58

Flaming hell, wrote a whole reply and computer crashed, sods law!!!

Twoplus, thanks for your comments. I have a family planning clinic, do u think they'd be able to help me?

Merrymeg, thanks for the link. Had a good read through but dont think any of it applies. I am overweight but never missed a period in 8 yrs......stress, well maybe, who doesnt get stressed?! But compared to the last 3 yrs, this is easy! I dunno what it is, maybe it is all linked back to this water infection? Thanks for trying though

Paula, no fraid not other than what i've posted

Wannabe, i do understand and have read where you're coming from but i still think that you shouldnt be fobbed off like that. It was like i didnt fit into protocol so i wont be listened to. Why do we pay taxes etc and then dont get to use the NHS? I just want to know if im a mum, like everyone else ttc, its all we want to know!

Hi 3D, thank you for thinking of me. I understand the medic point of view but i think they forget that us patients are not a number, we are ppl with feelings. Tbh, i dont know, earlier 2day i though my period was coming but now ive got the fluttering feelings again so im not sure. Guess its a wait and see!

Sorry to say, it's a long wait and see, when is AF due again?

babylove123 · 21/12/2006 17:49

Af i asume will now be due 2nd Jan.......

Just a Q, would internal vaginal thrush casue a prob with pg tests?....

wannaBeOnTopOfTheChristmasTree · 21/12/2006 22:43

no won't be a problem, best to not use anything from chemist for it though - try using live yoghurt to help it though

babylove123 · 21/12/2006 22:59

Doc gave me cannesten combi, pessary and pill. Said it wld be safe if pg. Yeh gonna stock up on the live yogurt, drinking loads of cranberry and water and hoping that'll work a tad!

OP posts:
3Ddonut · 22/12/2006 23:28

babylove.....don't want to get your hopes up or anything but...... thrush is a common complaint in early pg, I always knew that I was pg days before AF would have been due by an 'attack' of thrush?!

whatisit · 23/12/2006 13:30

hi im in a similar situation to you kind of. Im 38 been sterlised 7 years ago and lst month for the first time in over 25 years (apart from when i was pregenant) missed a period. The gp was very unhelpful.blamed it on stress- ive been more stressed out in the past & never had any probs. pregnancy test -ve.i had to persuade her to do some blood tests which she reluctantly did ( but she didnt know what the fuss was about)all normal - so where does that leave me. Im due on again on christmas eve what if no show then??????????

babylove123 · 23/12/2006 17:34

Hi 3D, well not getting my hopes up but im now officially 3 weeks late! Putting off testing again for as long as i physically can but my symptoms appear to have gone......good or bad?!

Hi Whatist, sorry to hear you've had worrying times. Could it be anything to do fibroids (sp?) or anything? You've said you've been steralised and i know sometimes they dont always work but if they ran blood tests then that would have shown something. Did they test for HCG?

OP posts:
whatisit · 23/12/2006 18:02

to be honest i dont know what they tested for!Hormones, throyd and and pituary problems- to check no early menopause etc. Not sure about fibroids, I thought they meant lots more bleeding not any altogether.Ive had since ive been sterlised this pain on one side at certain times of the month- was always convinced a clip was catching on something. Was intially concerned in case i could have ectopic but dr's not bothered if pg test is -ve. Its just so worrying when things dont work like they should and the obvious isnt allegedly the cause. May be like wannabeontopofthechristmastree says sometimes we skip for no reason ( even after 25years of not!!!)but then look at PinkTinsel there are exceptions to every rule.I was scared silly 3 weeks ago reading about all the failed pregnancies up to 8 years after sterilisation. So like you i just sit and wait - unlike you I'm just not sure what im hoping for though. We'll sit and cross our fingers together.

babylove123 · 23/12/2006 21:58

Well i hope everything works out ok for you. When is your next one due? If it doesnt turn up a couple of days after that, i'd go back to docs. Mines now supposidly due 2nd Jan so have booked an apt for 3rd incase it doesnt. They've kept me waiting long enough, i want some answers! Plus i get cramps 5 days b4 im due so if i have no cramps then they will be doing tests, i will force them!!!

If you were pg, wld u be happy?

OP posts:
whatisit · 24/12/2006 11:55

my average cycle is 25 im usually early rather than late latest is 27. If i take an average i was due on again yesterday! I guess latest would be if i say 27 and then 27 which would mean by Wednesday in my book ive definitely missed 2. Usually when im pregnanat im throwing up from week 6 almost every day till week 18 ( i hate being pregnant- give me several labours anyday than 9 months of hell!)- The worrying thing for me is if its not pregnancy and blood tests all normal what is it? I was hoping someone on here would have some possibilities?
Ive surfed the net cant find anything- and this last month ive been very careful to eat well no runing and no stress at work- just want things back to normal.
Would i be happy if i was pg? Honestly -for lots of reasons id rather not be- BUT if by some flippin miracle i am it would be welcome. The joy children bring with just that smile for you far outweighs all the hard work & sacrifices we make for them.

babylove123 · 24/12/2006 12:15

Hi Whatisit, I dont mean to be rude so PLEASE do not take this offensively, but i've heard that steralisation can make you go through the menopause a bit earlier.....i have friend who's 36 and she misses periods left, right & centre! Also have one who's mid 40's and is steralised and she has awful hormonal problems due to it. I would go back and see your doc and make them take you seriously, if they dont, get a 2nd opinion. You deserve an answer!!!!

Im not sure so im gonna test again on Thurs which is when i'd be 8 weeks and when doc said it is most likely to show up if it will......Ooooh wouldnt it be the best xmas pressie ever?!

MerryMegandSnowySoph · 24/12/2006 12:24

hiya hun

where on the strip is it in the wrong place?

These cheapy tests have varied spaces in between the control line and hcg detector bit.

Is the line still there?
