One of my friends said one of her friends was choosing between Vincent and Lucas for her DS - this was a couple of years ago.

I thought it wasn't much of a choice really - clearly Lucas was a nicer name.

Till she said "I hope they go for Vincent. Lucas rhymes with mucus".

Saturn74 · 01/12/2006 00:17

LOL at Peachy's "spermally retentive" comment!

ediemay · 01/12/2006 00:34

I like Lucas, except I always think of George Lucas.
I like Kai
Not keen on the others
I like Rowan, Gethin and Zack
Good luck with it all!

Clary · 01/12/2006 00:48

Boys' names can be tricky can't they.

I think the important thing to do is pick something that is easy to spell and say, and immediately obv whether it's a boy or a girl.

IMHO James and Stanley both fit this. Also Lucas. Not so sure about Kai and Kaydon.

There's a boy I know of called Keal Pass. Sorry if mum is a MN-er but it just doesn't sound like a name!

Clary · 01/12/2006 00:49

Sorry btw debbsy I know y're not thinking of Stanley.

Heath btw - I know one but had never come across it before or since. Is it after anyone? (not Heathcliff I presume lol)

ediemay · 01/12/2006 00:51

I've met a heath. Always think of Shakespeare's blasted heath or Ted Heath

munz · 01/12/2006 09:30

and don't forget debs little J was born on thrus at 2.37am and it was late fri afternoon before we picked a name, I kept asking him what he wanted! lol. I like oliver as well but then you would have OJO which wouldn't suit really.

girls names are sooooooo much easier I found! lol.

Debbsyandbibby · 01/12/2006 09:32

defo munz

hulababy · 01/12/2006 09:37

From that list I like James. Not so sure about the others, as not my taste really. I guess Lucas is the better of them all IMO.

Love your children's names Clary

I like stanley (how did we get on to Stanley?) but like Harold its a family name for us, quite a few Stan Godfreys about!. Actually Godfrey is an OK name, was my maiden name and it is DS1's middle name. This meant, as he was born before I married, his hospital records read @Samuel Godfrey Godfrey' LOL! Good job Dh didn't ditvh me before the wedding I guess!

Not so keen on Harold actually but we did like harry and it made FIL happy ( and my dad as his father was also a Harold). DS3 has the middle name griffith after my other Grandad- hard work this family

The other MALE family name we have is Jess. Yuck.

DS3 was almost a darwin but decided against it, knowing what I know about my life (ie that I spend all my Uni essays blatherieng on about evolution LOL), I would have used it. Also like Dharma though, from Uni. Sure local highly religious schools would have a fit and frankly that's good reason enough LOL!

Like james (back to OP)- James Peach. erm, no.

vicky55 · 01/12/2006 10:29

last nite we decided if we have a boy he will be called Kaydon middle name Lewis.

Debbsyandbibby · 01/12/2006 10:32

i like that Vicky its unusual and its not a made up name either ill check the meaning now.

Clary · 01/12/2006 10:33

Hula

(I like yr DD's names too)

Peachy lol at samuel godrey godfrey!

Clary · 01/12/2006 10:35

watch out for lewis if looking for unusual name, 3 Lewises in DS1's Beaver group (about 25 boys) also 3 Edwards which I always thought was less common but obv not hereabouts.

it means friend or companion Vicky

Debbsyandbibby · 01/12/2006 10:45

oh and we also like Kyle and Reiss

LunarSeasonsGreetings · 01/12/2006 10:53

James is nice but very popular - 6 James's and a Jamie in ds's year of 60 kids (and that's mixed, not all boys).

Ditto Lucas (and variations) - a Luke, a Lucas and a Luca in ds's year (as well as a Lewis and a Louis).

Don't like the others, sorry.

vesela · 01/12/2006 10:56

I like John, and there aren't enough of them around, either. It's a nice old name that seems to have fallen by the wayside - please, a couple of you having boys, call them John and save the name! I prob. won't be able to use it, though, since it doesn't work in Czech (where we live).

Debbsyandbibby · 01/12/2006 10:57

Lunar james is a definate as a middle name its after my grandad.

tortoiseshell · 01/12/2006 11:09

lol vesela - we gave ds1 the middle name John, partly for that reason!

Out of that list, I like James, but not keen on the meaning of James, so wouldn't use it myself. Don't like the others I'm afraid - Lucas does remind me of George Lucas, and both it and James are very popular atm.

If you're looking for a more unusual name, you can check a name's popularity on the Bounty website. I like names like Solomon, Isaac, Rowan, Adam, Alastair, or if you want to be a bit more unusual, Micah - the Old Testament is a great source of names that are unusual, but sound like 'names' iyswim (I do think Kaydon sounds a bit made up). And if you can't decide, have a look at the meanings. We considered the meanings almost as much as the name!

redkennedy · 01/12/2006 11:23

My dp wants to call our unborn Willie if its a boy. Hes Scottish. Its nice and traditional. But I actually crack up every time I imagine calling my child Willie. Especially if hes ginger like his dad. But crack up in a nice way.

expatinscotland · 01/12/2006 11:27

Reiss?

That sounds made up.

Kyle's okay.

Juicylucythe2nd · 01/12/2006 11:33

LOL RedKen - Groundsman Willie. Oh Dear. Hope you win your DH round to something else!

RobinRedBreastsKennedy · 01/12/2006 11:38

I think its too late JL. Hes really taken with it and says we can shorten it to Will in polite circles. Part of me loves it. Theres quite a popular kids book in Scotland (and maybe England) called Our Willie pronounced Ooor Wullie and he loved it as a child. Then again I liked Get Along Gang and Transformers. Hmmm.
