I am currently 7 months pregnant. We are really looking forward to No 2 arrival. In particular both my friend (who is 6 months pregnant)& I am getting fed up with being refered to as huge - if you are talking to a pregnant Mum are a Toddler group or activity, try having a little tact!

I bought a tandem buggy new when our 2nd ds was born and used it lots and lots (there is a two year gap) but now everyone I know seems to be selling their double buggies in the free paper. They are all still in good condition and going for a song. So, my suggestion is to check out your local paper and if you find any, go and see them and ASK how the owners found them to use as some are easier than others. Also, ask friends who already have two children what they did as I found that helpful.
Also, think about where you will be using it most. eg I live in a little old town and when I thought about a side by side buggy, I realised that I would only be able to get into Woolies and Boots! Also bear in mind how much you walk anywhere or if you go in the car mostly, whether there are lots of steps and kerbs which can be tricky with a tandem, especially as the bigger child sits at the front. Things like that.
But buying from the paper will stop you spending a packet on something you hardly use.

Dixie, you haven't met my ds, he would disappear and not give it a second thought. At the moment I use a wrist to wrist strap whenever he is not in the pushchair and plan to use this even when he is on the buggyboard. You can't be too careful these days. Buying a double buggy second-hand sounds a good idea, would do this myself if ds was younger, at least if you don't use it much you haven't spent much money on it and can always try to sell it again. Also it has just occurred to me that one of my friends who has a similar age gap between her two as you will have has a seat thing that goes on top of the carrycot section of her pram, don't know if you can get this for all types of prams or not.
