Very early days I know but would love to talk to others in same situation. This is no. 3 (no. 2 was a mere 1 week fantasy last year) so am keeping this one to myself (and all of you).

Anyone else?

strawberry, never yet had a scan let alone find out the sex. I just really like the idea of discovering when nature intended ie at birth. Having said that, would probably find out if I knew I was having twins, or some other exceptional circumstance.

Nimme, like you have nausea which creeps up on me when I sit up in bed in the morning, move around the house, get hungry, feel tired, gets worse in the evenings etc. Am prepared for the longhaul as far as it's concerned, as with last pregnancy lasted nearly 5 months.

smellymelly · 05/05/2004 17:18

Strawberry, you can find out sex from 15 weeks (at the earliest) by scan, but would need to be done privately by a company like 'babybond'.

But beware there are a few mns who will not agree!!

Personally I'm not good at suprises, and found out with both of mine.

Jimjams · 05/05/2004 18:04

strawberry- when I had ds2 I had a nuchal at Kings and they asked if we wanted to find out the sex (13 weeks). We said yes please but he wouldn't cooperate and kept his back to us. The sonogroaher said that its not as reliable at 13 weeks as 20 but they are usually right. We found out at 20 weeks. DS1 was a suprise but I wanted to organise the baby stuff for ds2!

We have now moved and like you will only get the 20 week scan on the NHS. We will have to weigh up whether to go for the nuchal (2 hour drive + 100 quid). We probably won't as we would only be being nosy- I wouldn't terminate for DS or spina bifida so it seems a lot of hassle for nosiness.

Jimjams · 05/05/2004 18:05

I was a xmas baby. If i go for a 3rd section this one will be a week before xmas baby. Guess I have to be organised this year.....

Nimme · 05/05/2004 18:36

Organisation is the name of the game this christmas. I tried last year and got 50% done early - this year I'll have to do all that malarky in October/November.

Perhaps not so bad can then enjoy baby (will of course have angel child that SLEEPS A LOT this time) and christmas with someone else doing the cooking.... Oh and can eat like pig this year as can blame pregnancy!

Jezebel - any news?

hana · 05/05/2004 20:34

just want to congratulate Strawberry (mmmm)! WE are filling up afterall!!
Saw my GP this afternoon, and hopefully I'll get a scan through EPU in a week or two.
Feel awful - had to leave work just an hour after I got there and spent the rest of the day sleeping. Need to pick up dd from nursery now, I feel very rested after doing nothing all day long!
Jezebel - hope to hear good news soon!
hana

Jezebel · 05/05/2004 23:24

Hello all. Congrats Strawberry! No news I am afraid. Like Hana have been to doc who promised to refer for a scan but no date as yet. Surpised me as before he has always sent me to EPU next day. Don't know if they have changed the procedure round here. Anyway that takes some pressure off. Hana, you and me sound identical!

ginger29 · 05/05/2004 23:26

Hi. Happy to join this message board. I am due December 9th with first baby. Have just spent afternoon at hospital after having stomach cramps for 24 hours. Staff at walk in centre were great and sent me to Early Preg Assessment Unit where I had a scan showing all is well (though not much to see at 8 weeks!) Anyone else had stomach / backache? Its my first pregnancy so is difficult to work out what is 'normal' or not.

Nimme · 09/05/2004 16:18

Ginger29 - Congratulations.

Haven't had any cramps/aches like that (had a pulling kind of feeling early on), however my friend did. She had very sharp cramps in first trimester before 12 week scan - had ultra sound and all was fine. Sorry couldn't help more - glad all okay - and WELCOME!

Jezebel · 09/05/2004 18:33

ginger 29 CONGRATULATIONS. Didn't post before as have not had that tho my sister did and all was well. How exciting to have a scan!! Could you see anything at all?

Nimme · 12/05/2004 13:04

I have one skirt and one pair of jeans that I can still fit - only because they are elastic. I am 9 1/2 weeks but look like 4 1/2 months. I must buy some clothes but don't want to spend fortunes on mat. clothes and also feels like tempting fate - still another 17 days until scan...

Is it just me (who's going to look like a house with the double garage and tennis court!)??

Thanks for your replies jezabel and nimme. I have deceided to relax a bit more about occasional stomach ache now. Good to know of others who also experienced it. We could see a small peanut shape with a flashing heartbeat on the scan. We are now continually referring to 'the peanut'.
Nimme - I am also rapidly feeling the pull on my trousers. I have taken to getting in every night from work and changing straight into baggy tracksuit pants. Can see i will be investing in more of these.

Nimme · 15/05/2004 17:17

Ginger29 - how exciting to have a scan and see you little peanut! My scan is still 2 weeks away which feels like a very long time....

Just been to M&S and bought elasticated trousers (not as Granny as it sounds!) as my only jeans need a wash.

Anyone else had a scan yet??

OP posts:
hana · 15/05/2004 21:26

ginger - congrats and welcome!! Sorry that you had to go to EPU but a great result in seeing that everything was ok.

Jezebel - any news on your scan? WAs it today?

I have one booked next Tuesday, I'll be nearly 9 weeks.

Am still incredibly tired and very sick at least twice a day. Have looked into getting a cleaner, she's going to come once every two weeks starting next week. Yah! I'm trying every remedy going, am going to order some 'preggy pops' which were being recommended on the Jan board. anyone try them before?

Nimme · 15/05/2004 21:44

Hana - sorry to hear you are actually sick (do you fell any relief afterwards, sorry to be so graphic?). I only get nauseous (but it b...... last forever and I tend to go to bed really early just to get away from it)

I haven't tried preggy pops but have ordered as seen on Jan thread. I am expecting miracles so will perhaps get disappointed - also if they in lollipop shape how do I keep them away from DD1 (4)???

OP posts:
smellymelly · 15/05/2004 22:23

Hi Hana, I have just ordered my preggie pops too, but today I may have had a breakthrough, I bought some ginger capsules (as I can't stand ginger - Sorry 'Ginger'!!), anyway swallowed 2, and managed to keep them down for half an hour before I threw up. Anyway what little I got may have worked. So worth a try, perhaps. I have felt so ill that I can't get off the sofa, but a little break from the really strong feeling of nausea this pm.

Jezebel · 16/05/2004 13:20

Hello mates. Well I am sorry I am going to have to leave you here but will still pop in occasionally and I wish you really well. Unfortunately not good news at scan. Having had 4 mcs no will get all the tests available and wil be having babies soon. Lots of best wihses to you xxx

smellymelly · 16/05/2004 15:33

Hope you don't mind if I follow this thread too....

I'm carrying twins!!! It has been confirmed, but only 6 weeks so very early, my due date is 2nd Jan, but I will never get that far!!

As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I joked that I would get it out before Xmas, now I actually have a good chance. But hope they do not come too early!

treyuk · 16/05/2004 16:00

Congratulations to everyone. I have only done home tests so far but calcualtions mean I am 7 weeks and due 29th December. This is my first pregnancy, feeling sick for a week now and getting very tired in the afternoon. Have just moved to a new area so have to register with new doctor before I can get it confirmed. Cant wait till then as at the mo it seems so unreal. Was only half trying to get pg and I only came off the pill in Jan, I expected it to take a lot longer.

Excited but cautious as it is only early days, roughly how many weeks should it be till first scan if everything seems normal?

Plus I cannot stop burping, I have never burped so much in my life. Has this happened to anyone else?????

smellymelly · 16/05/2004 22:02

Congrats Treyuk - I wish I had found Mumsnet with my first pregnancy. Normal scan is done at about 12 weeks and/or 20 weeks, depending on where about in the country you are.

Oh and I can't stop farting!!! - NICE!!

Nimme · 16/05/2004 22:49

Jezebel - SO SORRY

Hopefully see you back here soon..........

OP posts:
Nimme · 16/05/2004 22:55

Treyuk - congratulations!

Like Smellymelly I too have a farting problem which is starting to bug me - it's a miracle DH hasn't complained yet, I would! Also burp but more to get relief from the nausea. Truly delicious at the moment!

Smellymelly - wauv twins
My mother is a twin and it supposedly skips a generation so we have a chance/risk too - 13 days and counting until scan. You have 1 or more already?

OP posts:
Nimme · 16/05/2004 22:56

I meant 1 or more children

smellymelly · 16/05/2004 23:14

I have a ds (4.5) and a dd (19mths) - yes we will be a little busy!!

My dads sister had twins, so I guess that is where it may have come from. I might feel as sick as a dog, but I feel truly blessed.

It would be very exciting if someone else was expecting twins on Mumsnet too!!
