Hey Scottish, it is really common for the placenta to be confirmed as low lying at 20wks scan, and I think most of them do move up, which is why the rescan you at 32 weeks (which is good actually, my hosp don't do it until 36 weeks). I was told by sonographer and MW that there is absolutely nothign you can do about it except wait and see (and that most do move).

Is yours completely covering the cervix, or is it just near it at the moment? it should say on your notes.

Mine was completely covering at 20wk scan, and if you read up post, is the most likely reason I bled so much at 22wks and was in hospital last week, and why I'm currently in bed reading MN all day :o I'm told this (bleeding) is not that common though, I think something like 1 in 200 develop PP (oh, lucky me!) back at consultant tomorrow so will let you know if I find out anything else interesting :)

PoppyS34wantsminieggs · 12/04/2012 15:51

Congrats on another little boy Gnomi :) hope he stops bladder jumping soon.

alisonmcg · 12/04/2012 16:31

Hi everyone! Our scan went really well today!! Baby was very well behaved and could get all the measurements really easily and quickly, hope this good behaviour is a sign of things to come!! Managed to resist the temptation to find out the sex although when they did a close up of the face my first thought was that it looked like a boy!! Wouldn't be surprised if it was seeing as August is looking like boy month!

Glad all the other scans went well and good luck to anybody who is still to have theirs! X

Westcountrylovescheese · 12/04/2012 17:39

Good to hear about all the scans today, we are getting very boy heavy. Is there any girls out there!

Hand hold Scottish, I have no idea about your situation but I hope everything goes ok. As your SiL said, it's best that they know and can keep an eye on you. You can always come on here if you need support.

WelshLadyCDF · 12/04/2012 18:23

Mine's a girl!
Had a horrid time at the dentist yesterday, tried to focus on her to stay calm but it was a struggle, at least I didn't have to pay.
Am going on holiday soon, has anyone had to get a 'fit to fly' letter from their GP? Mine says I can have the letter without even needing to meet the doctor which seems odd.
Hugs to you all from a tired mum to be, 23 weeks today!

NeedlesCuties · 12/04/2012 19:53

Gnomi my EDD changed because I'd miscalculated my period dates Blush makes sense now and I'm not bothered about the date change. DS was born at 39 weeks weighing 8lb 6oz and I'm assuming this baby will be a similar weight.

West there are a few girls out there, have a read of my super-lovely-organised list Wink

Welsh DS, DH and I are off on holiday on Sunday for a week. Cannot wait!!! I got a fit to fly letter from my GP too, even though he didn't see me Hmm My advice is to get some travel insurance too.

hamncheese · 12/04/2012 20:01

Glad your scan went well needles that's annoying about not being able to find out the sex but good in general!

poppy and gnomi Let's create a bladder pressing baby sympathy subgroup... i always am out and like oh crap I need to pee all of a sudden then a few minutes later it goes away, which I assume is baby like "hehehe I'm going to prod mr bladder for a little while"

Also gnomi how is the masters coming along? Hope it's going okay and not stressing you too much! I've managed to work out that I have only 7 more trips to Edinburgh (ughhh - so expensive and irritating to get there) and my archival work is done woohoo... but then I have to start writing things... eep

scottish Sorry to hear about the low lying placenta and not being able to feel movements yet, others will have much more practical advice but still here and hoping it is moving for you as I type!!

Congrats alison on your scan ... are we the only two (that I know of) who are waiting til August to find out the sex??? Probably two boys but hey... still exciting haha!

Well I just managed to do a viewing of our flat... in my pyjamas Blush. They were coming at 7 and it was 20 to 7 and I was badgering DH to take the bin out before as I felt rubbish (rib/back pain as per) and then the buzzer went. Managed to get a t-shirt on with my pj bottoms (which helpfully weren't covered in little burgers for once) and apologised to the viewers for my "somewhat casual attire" ha! Oh well, no-one has bought it yet despite my being fully clothed so what the hell, maybe the tables will turn now.

Also ordered the cot mattress today. Got a spring one from John Lewis and also got some sheets and mattress protector. Now off to eat tiffin like a pig, hope you are all having a nice evening

(22+5)

ishopthereforeiam · 12/04/2012 21:24

Yummm I want tiffin ham!

Just ordered a pram, will have to ditch my beautiful one I bought for dd and have gone for a boring but practical phil&teds... If anyone needs a double / tandem kiddicare have 10% off at the mo Wink

Good point on the fit to fly letters .... Will be flying at around 26 -28 weeks and completely forgot about all that.

Despite a hellish few weeks, things are looking up, at last Grin

Loislane78 · 12/04/2012 21:29

Hi Ladies

Scan today (brilliant experience isnt it!) although was pretty nervous beforehand. Lovely sonography who talked us through the whole thing and we're having..... A GIRL!!! 4 grandsons in my family so my mum and sisters seem to be getting more excited than me :)

Hope you're all doing well. EDD 24/08 DC1 based Cambridge, aged 34

Take care xx

NeedlesCuties · 12/04/2012 21:57

Congrats Lois have updated your stats on the list. You and I are due date buddies :)

geekette · 12/04/2012 22:22

Anyone interested in the "stomach equivalent to football" group?
I recognize all that is happening to your bladders except the little bean is kicking me in the food sack!
This makes meal times very interesting to put it mildly.

And Ham, we aren't finding out either! We are not really bothered if boy or girl, we just want a little one to love.

sc0ttishlass · 13/04/2012 10:14

thanks Poppy for your words - didnt realise that was what you had also.. the MW did say to look out for bleeding - I cant tell from the notes if it was fully covering but will call them to fully ask - although like you say nothing that can be done! I am calming down about it - just really got myself into an emotional state about it earlier in the week!

thanks other ladies for your kind words - what would we do without each other :)

re the certificate to fly - i presumed that was for later in the day! I am flying Glasgow to Birmingham next weekend for a uni girls reunion - will be 22+5 when I fly - do you think I need to ask for a certificate?

loving all the scan news :) and there are some others who havent found out either! thought i was alone on that front....

so glad its friday :)

xx

PoppyS34wantsminieggs · 13/04/2012 10:21

Scottish I fly to Belfast at 22wks and didn't need a certificate to fly. The check in lady asked me how many weeks pregnant I was, and when i said 22, she just said- that's fine. If in doubt check with your midwife or GP but I think it's fine up to about 26/28 weeks. Glad you're feeling a bit better today. :)

Geekette (puts hand up in air) I'll join the "stomach equivalent to football" group, it generally looks like I've swallowed on. Especially as all my other measurements have stopped the same (excluding boobage, which has got bigger).

Good luck to anyone else with scans, I'm off to see the consultant shortly about my PP. Fingers crossed they'll let me be a bit more active.

panpipe · 13/04/2012 10:37

Don't forget me for the 'haven't found out' club too!

Had a really manic day yesterday despite having the day off work! Took the car to the garage which has turned into double the initial cost because it's leaking brake fluid Shock. Quite scary; I check my car fairly regularly but the brake fluid reservoir is one of those that you apparently shouldn't really interfere with so I had no idea.

I also went to a coffee morning run by the homebirth midwife team so it was lovely to meet the rest of the mw's even though mine is on holiday at the moment. Good to meet some other local mums who are planning on homebirth and to find that I'm not the only first time mum considering it!

I had a horribly uncomfortable night though as my hips hurt where I was lying on them, on both sides. I tried my Dream Genii pillow but think I was so annoyed at being tired and uncomfortable that I couldn't be bothered with it and threw it straight out of bed again. Consequently today I'm tired and grumpy and am already looking forward to home time!

NeedlesCuties · 13/04/2012 11:11

Poppy are you coming to Belfast to visit me and the other NI August ladies? Wink

Up thread I said that I got a cert to fly for our holiday - we're leaving on Sunday, woo! - but I got that because we're going to a different country in mainland Europe, 3 hours away and a country where English is a 2nd language. I'd say for a domestic flight within the UK you'd be ok till further on in the pregnancy. Always good to check these things though, as some airlines are more arsey than others.

therumoursaretrue · 13/04/2012 11:41

Hey ladies,

I feel like I haven't been on here in such a long time. Hope everyone is doing well and had a nice Easter. I will have a read back and catch up on all the news at some point today if I get a chance.

Last couple of weeks have been a bit tough here with illness in the family, but trying to keep my chin up for DPs sake.

We had our 20 week scan on Wednesday which was a joy Grin but we have to be rescanned in 5 weeks to have another look at babies heart as he or she was being a little monkey and lay in an awkward position the whole time so the radiographer couldn't see the chambers clearly. Have been told not to worry so hopefully it will be nothing.

Baby is very long!!! Measuring close to dates everywhere else but big long legs!

PoppyS34wantsminieggs · 13/04/2012 19:14

Needles I meant to write flew to Belfast. I was there 2 weeks ago, and it was lovely. Have never been before, had a lovely stay with a very dear friend, and will be back! :) Have a fab holiday!

Scottish glad you're feeling a bit better. Saw consultant today who said that I'm fine to go back to work and start to be a bit more active, phew! All vital signs for me and Bump are ok, so that's a relief. I'm also being checked every two weeks for monitoring, so feel reassured by that too.

Here's to a better night's sleep tonight Panpipe, my hips seem to ache a bit when I sleep on them. Am still trying to get one of those pillows on Ebay :o

Glad scan went well rumours, and at least you get to see little one again in 5 weeks, that's something nice to focus on when times are tough. Brew

More househunting this weekend, praying that the moving Gods will sprinkle some fairy dust on us this weekend and we'll strike lucky :o

hamncheese · 13/04/2012 20:21

Sending a few slices of metaphorical tiffin your way ishop Biscuit

Congratulations on your GIRL loislane Grin

Ooh sorry I missed you not finding out buds panpipe and geekette; what do you think you are having or have you no clue? My DH is guessing girl so he can say well at least one of us was right!

Where be the application form for the swallowed a football club please? I was in john lewis ordering the cot mattress yesterday and the couple ahead of me were ordering a pram and she had the tiniest bump, like I had at about 14 weeks but then she said to the woman at the till she was due 8th august... and I looked down at my due-only-3days-later football bump and was shocked, like so> Shock. She was a dead thin person but I thought that'd mean even more bumpage... if I've swallowed a football I'd venture she'd swallowed a sock.

Also will share this little tale of loserdom with you. DH got a mini basketball and hoop thing at a conference for free which he put on the back of our bedroom door so we were throwing it last night and I was being hopeless trying to get it in. So as I fail again I decide when DH throws it back to me I will just grab and throw it dead quickly with no aim cause I suck, except when he throws it at me I miss catching it and end up sort of falling over face first onto the bed, then flop onto my side due to le bump and it was hysterical cause I was like a weeble wobble and I'm lying there laughing like a maniac so is DH and for some reason I start actually bawling, like some tradgedy had occurred but only laughing. And this state was apparently so intense DH ended up laughing himself into a bit of an athsma state. So there I am crying my eyes out unable to get off the bed and DH puffing on the inhaler. Winner of loser couple prize goes to us Wink

The3Bears · 13/04/2012 20:23

Hi everyone, hope your all well.

Congrats on finding out your having a little girl lois

I will join the "stomach equivalent to football" group, my bump looks exactly like a football now Grin

Also baby has a thing for going on my bladder at the most annoying times, 4am making a mad dash to the loo! In the middle of tesco with ds.

Goodluck with your househunting this weekend poppy

Well my ds is still a poorly little boy :( feel v sorry for him when he's ill, hes just been sleeping constantly. I really hope hes abit better tomorrow as we have to take the cat back to vets for check up and the weathers supposed to be nice so we were hoping to go to the park and go for a lovely walk.

Hope everyone has a great weekend Grin

geekette · 13/04/2012 20:49

Aww, 3 bears, hope your son manages the walk tomorrow, poor thing.

Ham That is the best laugh I have had in ages! I am still trying to imagine the scene!
And no we are really not guessing the gender... We are either being lazy or cautious.

All hail the club of the almost rounded protrusions! :)

But is no one else literally being kicked in the stomach? I mean, my LO's feet are strategically placed to make sure I never have more than half a plate of food at a time. It does seem to swim away if I have some ice cream and this buys me some digestion time.
And sometimes I am kicked in the ribs? tantrums whilst still in the womb? Hmm Promising..
The scan showed I have a "high" baby. Little chance of it attacking my bladder with its feet although once in a while it does attempt a head butt as its head is pointing down that way... but it just can't reach poor thing.

The upside being, I do not get the loo issue, iyswim.

Westcountrylovescheese · 14/04/2012 09:19

He he Ham that made me laugh out sound! Hilarious.

Well I don't have the bump of a football, more like a rugby ball on an angle with one point just above my belly button... and inside he I'd definately practising, and getting better at, Russian dancing. DH felt some kicks and thought they felt a bit like a heartbeat going, oh no, they were several Russian dancing kicks!

Loo at four am, check.

Westcountrylovescheese · 14/04/2012 09:20

Not sound... Made me laugh out loud!

Vinolover · 14/04/2012 09:47

Congratulations on all these scans and it's so lovely to hear we now have some girls :).

I'm pretty cheesed off at the moment. My weight seems to have soared to a new level without even over indulging :( I wouldn't mind so much if I was eating lots of naughty things so last night I helped things along by eating a whole Easter egg to myself! I've also been diagnosed with spd which I'm really hoping doesn't get any worse. I had a day off work yesterday and really rested up which has helped massively but will no doubt suffer after my shift today - what a miserable cow I am today!

I have a pointed rugby ball too west. It looks hilarious sometimes Grin.

On a positive note, my DH has plumbed in our loo for our en suite and has just started digging the footings for our extension :) Our house is finally coming together.
I also ordered the little fellas Moses basket yesterday. I cannot wait to see it :).

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. X

Lovemarmite · 14/04/2012 11:23

ham funny!

Ahhh tiny bump on skinny lady eh? Hmm, my mum keeps saying how tiny she was when she looks at my tummy with big eyes... oh well, us with the footballs and rugby balls should be proud of them!

I have been feeling a bit naughty for my LO as I have been a bit sick again today, nose blown a thousand times too (and so loudly!) and when I shift in bed it's like my belly comes last! LO has also stopped kicking a lot but maybe he's turned around a bit as I'm feeling them inside and not on the outside when my whole tummy seemed to jolt at times. At the moment, I seem to be getting colon kicks and yeap, bouncing on the bladder too. Nice, obviously a hint for one of those trampolines then?!

Do you know when we get our bloods checked again?
I was wondering about my thyroid as I'm really cold all the time but I am usually anyway.

Don't worry about your weight vinolover, I guess that worry is for after August and beyond. For me too! Hope your shift goes okay today and glad you did rest up and it made you feel better.

Happy weekend everyone!
