Good morning everyone,

capecath so sorry to hear about your friend, like others have said lets hope youth and catching it early are on her side sending you lots of hugs x

hamncheese Well done with all your shopping dont really have much advice with slings as never had one with ds thinking of getting one this time mabye though as ds was v clingy as a baby and constantly wanting to be held so a sling would be easier round the house and short trips, you sound like me we only need a couple more bits now as I wanted to get it all over and done with so i can just relax in the last couple of months. I just need some good quality boy baby gros and vests we have some white ones from john lewis but all the boy ones have dogs or bears on it so boring, has anyone seen any?
Really hope your cats are okay aswell poor things.

Thanks poppy ds was much better so we let his cousin have a sleepover and have a movie night and went to the park on Sunday, was lovely but still freezing outside. Vet trip was fine just a post op checkup as we had our kitten neutered on Thursday finally no more vet bills for a while now (hopefully), so bloody expensive.

Have a great holiday needles :)

woopsidaisy love your maternity bits, I really need to get some more bits next week as constantly in topshop jeans and slouchy tops and flats atm better get my act together :)

Hope everyone has a lovely day today and all our bumps our well :)

The3Bears · 16/04/2012 10:00

poppy Ive been thinking about getting one of the pregnancy pillows to but £45 seems like a lot for a pillow, I had a v shape pillow from dunelm mill when pregnant with ds and it was only £8, I used it for bf aswell and when ds was starting to sit up havent got it now and struggling to find another but it was great.

MrsMigginslovespies · 16/04/2012 10:11

Hello ladies, lovely to see you! Have missed you all :)

Was away a bit over Easter, then stupid laptop charger broke, so no MN! Disaster! Have finally caught up and glad everyone is doing well. I finally have a neat bump, am pleased to report! Now look preggers, not just fat, so quite pleased, though still sore quite often coz of scarring etc, but suspect that'll remain for the duration now. Bleeding also stopped which is a massive relief.

I got my theraline pillow the other day and whilst it's massive, is also really lovely. DH quite envious and sneaks a shot to lie against whilst reading if I'm not on it! Can also finally feel baby kicking from time to time, as can DH which is lvoely. Because my placenta is at the front, acts as a cushion, so we didn't feel anything for ages. Was Envy at all your movements, an suspect still not as much, but can at least feel him now.

Dithering too about names. DH keeps going off all the ones I thought we liked and threw in a new one to the mix the other day that I don't like! Hmmm! The mums have been buying a few little outfits and bits and bobs which is nice. And I got some lovely things in the White Company sale, including the cutest pair of pale blue booties/slippers for winter and a jumper with a dog in wellies for next spring. I love them!

Bought a couple of Boden tshirts in the sale that had to sent straight back as were HUGE in the body but had tiny wee arms oddly. Bit of a shame as were nice and simple for summer.

Ham, we're going to get a carrier we think, but want to try some out. My sister had a sling and loved hers fwiw.

Cath am sending good vibes to you and your friend.

Speak soon all, and happy Monday xx

ffscatmove · 16/04/2012 10:38

Praying for your friend, capecath & love to you both Sad

hamncheese I've just bought a Moby D after trying a friends' - was really easy to use (although I will be practicing with the cat a stuffed toy before DC1 arrives) It doesn't have any buckles (I tend to get my fingers trapped) but as long as you can tie a double knot you're fine. The D has a non-stretchy panel that means you can keep using it with sprog as they get bigger. It should be here in a few days so I'll keep you posted as I carry a toy lion around with me!

PictureThis · 16/04/2012 10:49

Oh Capecath how awful for your friend. Sending lots of strength your way.

Leg cramps...oh my God! Not a night passes without me having at least one episode of cramping Sad. I must remember to add indian tonic water to this week's shopping list. I was having a well deserved nap on the sofa this morning after a night shift and have just been rudely awakened by one. Poor DD wasn't sure what was going on when I suddenly leapt up off the sofa yelling like a complete loon!
Have bought a few bits for baby but saving the pennies for a bigger splurge nearer the time. Will start to buy a packet of nappies each week with the shopping from now on. I did this with DD and hardly had to buy any nappies whilst on maternity leave. I'm afraid I'm not organised enough for real nappies and my washing basket already resembles the magic porridge pot on overtime as it is.

PoppyS34wantsminieggs · 16/04/2012 10:53

ffs I actually spat my tea out laughing at the thought of a cat in a sling :o :o

MrsM so glad to read that bleeding has stopped, that's a huge relief. 3Bears I might have to have a search about for an alternative, although i will fork out if it comes to it. I slept for too long on my right hand side last night and woke up with terrible room spin, like I was drunk or something, it's was grim. Will have to see how it goes. Am using normal pillows, but they seem to disappear in the night.

Whoops also love those maternity bits, I've been bagging some great maternity clothes on ebay recently, too :)

panpipe · 16/04/2012 11:46

capecath dreadful news about your friend. Sending you both the very best wishes.

ham to answer your question from pages and pages ago, I've got no inkling at all what baby might be. DH is convinced that it's a girl though.

My bump still hasn't decided what shape or size it wants to be yet! Most of the time it now looks like a bump but there's still the odd day where I just look fat. Sometimes when I see massively pregnant ladies I do think "blimey I've still got so much more growing to do - how's that going to happen in the next 4 months?!"

Baby has been playing tricks on us for the last few days. It was really active on Friday but I didn't really feel anything all day or night Saturday so ended up panicking and going to the antenatal ward yesterday morning to get checked out, only to hear a lovely strong heartbeat immediately. To add to that baby seemed to miraculously wake up yesterday afternoon and was kicking away like nobody's business. I think it just wanted to give us a fright!

theressomethingaboutmarie · 16/04/2012 11:48

Just back from our scan.... I am in shock. We have a DD already and I was convinced that this one was a girl too. We decided at the last minute in the room to find out the sex and.... we're having a boy. I'm thrilled and excited but am not sure if I feel disappointment or shock.

I know that we're incredibly lucky and I'm having a healthy baby and pregnancy so far - I'm just dazed I suppose....

PoppyS34wantsminieggs · 16/04/2012 12:28

Congrats theres glad it's all went well, I can imagine that it's a bit of shock if you're convinced it was a girl. :)

Nice to see this thread busy today, I'm trying to go through two weeks worth of unanswered emails, catch up on everythign I've missed and also adjust to being upright so much - Bump is pulling in all sorts of weird directions, needs to readjust I think, and I'm also sneaking on here in between to keep me from stressing out about work too much.

The3Bears · 16/04/2012 12:38

theressomethingaboutmarie Congrats! A little boy how lovely :) Your probably just shocked, its very odd when your convinced its a boy/girl etc then at the scan your wrong. Im sure it will all sink in soon and you'll be ecstatic that your having a boy :)

picturethis I got leg cramps alot in my last pregnancy and they have come back this time but I read somehwhere that if you point your feet to the ceiling when sleeping you are less likey to get them and it's worked for me so far :) havent had one in a few weeks www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/antenatalhealth/sleep/legcramps/ some more tips here

panpipe what a cheeky baby you've got, I find my movements sometimes dont feel as strong or I dont feel them as much when baby must be facing my insides rather than kicking my tummy. It can be v scary though when your so used to feeling strong movements, next time try to have some sugary sweets like haribo and a cold glass of water and lie down for half an hr im sure you would feel something then much better than waiting at hospital all day :)

panpipe · 16/04/2012 13:25

3Bears I did the ice cold drink/lying down thing Saturday night and also had a bath which it normally seems to like, but since I'd still felt nothing by yesterday morning I thought I'd better get it checked out. Surprisingly enough they were quite quiet at 7.30am on a Sunday morning so I was in and out in half an hour!

PoppyS34wantsminieggs · 16/04/2012 13:58

picturethis I'd also suggest eating stuff like brazil nuts and bananas (assuming you're not allergic!) and making sure you're drinking enough - they help me with my cramps (I also like to think salt & vinegar crisps and chocolate help, but I think that's just in my head and nothing medical or scientifically proven :o)

ishopthereforeiam · 16/04/2012 14:23

Lots of messages to catch up on so quick run down from me:

Capecath thoughts and prayers with your friend.

Mrsm - hope you are ok now?

Poppie I bought a special sleeping pillow last time (form amazon) but it didn't work and ended up just using an old feather pillow under the bump when sleeping on my side which worked v well...

theresomething congratulations - how old is your dd? We were also convinced dc2 would be a dd but turned out he had different ideas Wink

Randomly started looking @ houses at the weekend. Saw some lovely ones but out of our budget so trying to see what we can do as I think I'm in love. Now we'll have 2 dc's we'll need a garden and an extra bedroom or two. All quite scary tho!

theressomethingaboutmarie · 16/04/2012 15:05

thank you all for the reassurance - it is slowly sinking in and DH is thrilled (he would have been happy with either of course). Ishop DD is 4 and is very excited about knowing the sex. We're going to tell her when we collect her from nursery later. She'll either bawl because it's not a girl or be thrilled (she can be quite extreme!).

hamncheese · 16/04/2012 15:27

Never thought to go to a baby show poppy will have a look (though may end up being totally lazy and just going for the one most people recommend Blush ) also I know I'm a broken record but V-shape pillow and beanbag squishee pillow combo win my best sleep vote, however I have not tried any of the expensive pillows.

3bears Boots has some nice baby grow designs. We got one with planes on it .. because we don't know the sex I've just been buying things that probably are meant for boys due to my complete aversion to pink princessy type girl stuff. If I have a girl she'll be rocking planes and cars!

YAY finally some movements for miggins congrats Grin

Oh do keep me posted about Moby D ffscat especially about if your cat is well behaved enough to sit in it haha I get the feeling mine would claw me to shreds. I have a favoured toy pengiun DH got me which will undoubtedly be used in sling/pram as I practice hahaha

Congratulations marie on your boy, nice to have one of each!

Seeing as so chatty today wonder if anyone has an opinion on this. My DH had 2 boy names he loved before we started trying. One was James which I immediately vetoed as it's my brother's name. To which he said it wasn't as my brother is called Jamie ha! So I was dead against it, DH didn't agree but was ok to leave that name. The other was Robert and I really didn't want a baby Bob, or as he would be up here, wee boab (Scottish accents don't do much for some names). So before we got anywhere I'd got rid of his 2 names. Now, while we are set on Charlotte for a girl we have 4 boy names we like and each a different favourite. His fave is Alexander, mine Jacob. BUT I have a cousin called Alexander. Do you think that it's unreasonable of me to want to veto this name as well because I want a unique name (in as much as I'm not related to someone of the same name)? I feel bad as it seems like every name he likes I ditch and if we go with one I like it'll be like I just bullied over my view. On the other hand though why are the only names he likes ones that people I know already have!! argh! So ... opinions? (Oh also I DO like Alexander as a name in general, though not as much as Jacob!)

PoppyS34wantsminieggs · 16/04/2012 15:52

Ham we are trying to find a name that no one else has got or used, which is tricky, so I don't think it's unreasonable at all, as that is exactly what we're trying to do. I've got Robert on my list, but didn't think of nickname Bob (good point). I think Alexander's a good name, but that's not going on our list as I also have relatives called Alexander and our friends have just called their baby it, too. It's a tough choice isn't it?

Oh, and I really think we need some pictures of cats in slings (for those brave enough) on profiles... :o

Re sling - do you have any big department stores nearby (I forgot where abouts you are Blush, sorry), They may have some slings there which you could try out or see being demoed (if they do that sort of thing).

33 more posts until Part 4 - whooop! :)

pintofmilk · 16/04/2012 17:27

MrsM glad your bleeding stopped.

Capecath thinking of you and sending positive vibes to your friend. Thanks

picture Leg cramps, ooch, I'm with you on that one. Still getting them everynight. Started in one leg, but this last week now get them in both. Have tried drinking more, will give the bananas a try and let you know (thanks for the tip poppy)

Theres congratulations on the boy news. I was the opposite to you. I was convinced I was having a boy, but found out it was a girl. Did cry, felt really guilty as I really don't mind, just glad everything ok. Treat yourself to a cute outfit, that worked for me.

Ham Names are tricky, my DP keeps choosing names which I like, however they seem to be ones of ex-girlfriends I hated! I know this should not be a reason not to choose a nice name, but it would bug me. The girls names I like are all the names of my nieces so I don't want to use them either, want something original. For the names my DP chooses, ones I don't like, I just say 'put it on the short list' to keep him happy as I feel guilty that the ones he likes I don't!
22+1

Westcountrylovescheese · 16/04/2012 17:41

Ham, I'd be the same about not wanting to use the same name as a family member. Would veto definately. I know Roberts and they are not known as Bob, Rob more likely...

The3Bears · 16/04/2012 17:53

panpipe sorry didnt realise you had already done that I would have gone to check then, so glad everything was okay anyway, Your hospital sounds great I would be waiting all day at mine im sure.

Never thought of boots hamncheese will take a look this week thanks, just so fed up of seeing the same old teddys or dogs on blue baby gros m&s are the worst every boy thing is blue and has a dog on it Confused

ffscatmove · 16/04/2012 19:11

Ok poppy, in the interests of the wider MN community I will attempt a photo of cat in sling when it arrives.... if he doesn't rip my face off in the attempt! (he weighs 7kg so is not exactly newborn size!)

I have a little dilemma for you actually ladies... DH & I didn't find out sex of DC1 at 20wk scan (he didn't want to know & I wasn't sure if I did) BUT I had to have a cervical scan at 21weeks (because of a previous loop excision) and the radiographer let it slip......
So, 1) am I a bad person for keeping schtum - DH did say he didn't want to know and 2) what do I do about shopping? I'm not a big fan of pink/blue anyway but don't want to buy all beige either! and last of all 3) am I daft for wishing I didn't know now that I do - even if it is by accident!

PoppyS34wantssleep · 16/04/2012 19:18

ffscatmove I don't think you're a bad person for keeping schtum, especially if DH didn't want to know. Do you think he'd be annoyed if he found out you'd known and not told him? Because if he would then maybe you could explain and see if he wants to know.

I haven't looked at shopping much yet, but maybe you could buy bright primary colours like yellow, green and red instead of pink/blue/beige? I'm sure the others who have started shopping might know a bit better.

:o re cat in sling...

WelshLadyCDF · 16/04/2012 19:19

ffscat if it was me... I would just tell him, and then apologise, I would find it so hard not not calling my bump he or she if I knew.
I am buying girls stuff for my little lady in waiting, dbut trying to avoid pink, lots of red, lots of stripes. debenhams is good for that.
I read ok magazine in the dentist last week, posh spice's little baby girl was there she looks amazing dressed in bloomin stella macartney..if only!!

hamncheese · 16/04/2012 21:05

I think Baby gap has a lot of nice prints too 3bears but probably a bit pricey. I know what you mean about dogs though... what I want to know is where are all the cat baby clothes??!

Thanks all re:names... I think I'll just go with it and see at the moment... I keep bringing the names up but DH doesn't seem to want to talk too much, probably realises I'm trying to push his fave out! I guess if he has his heart set on Alexander I'll deal with it. Will have to probe and see how much he likes Jacob...

I totally could not deal with an ex-gf name pint haha!! I also did the short list thing with names I didn't like and luckily none of them made it through bar one but it's a girl one and isn't the winner Grin

If I thought that Robert would be Rob or Robbie I wouldn't have minded but I just know it'll be Bob, I can feel DH's family doing it. While I am very lucky with my in-laws and we all get on fine I am dreading the inevitable genderising that will happen to our LO, be it little princess or tough wee man. Do have sympathy (though not complete understanding) for that couple who kept their child un-gendered for years, with a unisex name and clothing and never told anyone what sex they actually were!

Off to look for the happy medium I guess...

ffscat I would LOVE to see the cat in the sling Grin and may try it with the most docile of mine when I get one! As for knowing the sex I wouldn't be able to keep it from DH, especially as I keep on calling my bump he/him even though I don't know and just think it could be... would make sense this being such a boy heavy thread! If you think your DH would never want to know, even if he knew that you did, you might want to keep it to yourself (if it won't be a bother having to keep quiet) as then he might be analysing everything you buy/say/do in relation to the sex which I can imagine would be annoying for both..

Off for some tea and bed now ...stupid rib pain means being horizontal after 9 is necessary ha!

ffscatmove · 16/04/2012 21:22

Thanks everyone - might think on it for a bit, DH has my lurgy and is not at his most chatty & reasonable anyway! I have been calling bump by one gender since the start anyway, just on a 'feeling', and it turns out I was right so he won't notice!

ham could you not just introduce him as Rob or Robbie from the start & save Robert for the certificate? Then hopefully the ILs won't use Bob.

PoppyS34wantssleep · 16/04/2012 21:25

If we call Bump Robert (which I don't think we well, as DP is not keen) I'd prefer it to be Robbie rather than Bob (no offence to any Bob's out there, but it was the name of our goldfish.. Confused).
