I know hamncheese I did see alot of cats on girl clothes in next :( but why cant boys like cats I certainly prefer cats to dogs, funny you just mentioned baby gap I just did an order with them and got these:

And some socks (as ds always had the socks from babygap and they were great never fell of his tiny feet)

So cute cant wait til they arrive now as I havent bought many clothes yet so this is a good start :) How cute is the monkey hat Grin

The3Bears · 16/04/2012 21:30

The babygros would be great for you hamncheese as there unisex and v different from the usual bears etc

tashaw28 · 16/04/2012 21:44

Hey, haven't been on for ages!! Had my 20 week NHS scan today and it was rubbish, felt really rushed and she didn't talk to me at all, just kept cutting me off all the time and hardly let me see the baby at all, made me really glad we had a private one a few weeks ago!!!

mrsmamma I did a neutral nursery with DD1 and did a pale blue toile de joie wallpaper from Laura Ashley with pink heart door handles etc and white furniture in a shabby chic style, it has done both DD1 and DS2 with no changes!!! The other idea I had that I didn't use at the time was to use red gingham wallpaper and bunting, sort of a circus look?

poppy if this is your first pregnancy then DEF buy a pillow no matter the cost, I sleep with mine now, sleep on it with bubs in my arms after, feed on it for a year, use it behind baby when they're learning to sit up, etc, has many uses!!!! I've got a theraline.

theresomething I also was shocked to have DS2 after DD1, and in fact even after a few days she asked to take him back and change him for a girl!!! But now, he's the light of our life and we all adore him especially her, so much so that we all want a boy this time too!!!

Re: the name thing, I waited to bring up the short list until I was in labour with DD1 and...got the name I wanted hee hee

tashaw28 · 16/04/2012 21:49

Oooo also, can't remember who wanted funky boys clothes but look at polarn O. pyret, there's one where I live but am sure they'll do online!

PictureThis · 16/04/2012 21:52

Thanks for the tips poppy, i'll try them. 3Bears I saw plain blue vests in Tesco tonight, 5 in a pack for under a fiver. I would have bought some but the only had early baby size left. I saw some lovely boy's clothes in Mothercare too, not a dog (or cat) in sight either Grin.
DD is back to school tomorrow...yaay, she is so excited. I'm rather excited about it too to be honest. There's only so much 'Mummy how do you spell this?' I can take (21 days worth) before I start feeling like a walking 'Speak and Spell'!Grin Anyone remember them? here Her plaster comes off on Friday, so it's a busy week for her.

ishopthereforeiam · 16/04/2012 22:22

I love the names Alexander and Jacob ham

Oh on the gap clothes, dd's wardrobe is almost exclusively gap and monsoon stuff (almost all bought on sale!) as I'm a sucker for a bargain Wink

poppy I agree rob sounds lovely

Sooo tired hoping tonight's a better night sleep!

Swet dreams all.

Loislane78 · 16/04/2012 22:31

I remember speak and spell!! When it used to go "UT UH", the correct spelling of mum net is M.U.M.S.N.E.T in a very stern voice. He he :)

There does seem less unisex things around than I remember when buying pressies for my nephews, I know we're having a girl but not into the whole pink thing so looking for other stuff and it all seems a bit gender assigned (if that's an appropriate phrase!). I saw some nice yellow prints in Next and cute green caterpillar/snails in Mothercare.

Happy shopping!!

capecath · 17/04/2012 08:03

ffscatmove may be an irrelevant thought, but did the radiographer very clearly say if bump was a boy or girl by accident? Ours stated before we started the scan that she would be referring to it as a "he" for simplicity sake but that didn't mean it was a "he", so was thinking that if that was the case for you, they may have been talking about "he" or "she" but not necessarily giving it away IYKWIM?? Unless of course they thought you knew already....

hamncheese · 17/04/2012 08:30

Haha Bob the fish. My fish is called Sid. Sid Fishous Wink

tashaw that's brilliant - if slightly evil genious - bringing the name up in labour! Grin

Totally agree lois about the genderising of clothing. Nearly all shops have the blue wall and the pink wall. Sadly as well while the boys stuff would often be fine for girl, all the girl side is dresses and frills :( Relatedly I was very much NOT impressed when in ELC the other day getting a present for my nephew with the similar pink wall and blue wall. On the blue wall: Construction; Police/ambulance; Tool kits; Cars. On the pink wall: Hoovers; Microwaves; Fake food; Pink replica iphone. Seriously can't believe that this is acceptable! No wonder gender equality is a laughable concept when children are primed for it like this... >sigh< Can't say I'll be shopping in ELC in future.

MrsMigginslovespies · 17/04/2012 09:14

So with you on the pink/blue stuff Ham. I hate pink plastic and am almost glad I'm relieved of this for now... I love blue anyway, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I want my baby boy in everything blue with cars or trains on, or stupid cartoons. The White Company have some nice things (esp in sale), as do JoJoMaman but it is tricky. DH and I went to ToysRUs last week and I was shocked at all the hideous toys. There were some lovely things, but all the plastic cookers, guns, grim dolls, war things/cars that were so seperate really surprised me. Anyhoo, rant over, but it does involve some hunting about!

hamncheese · 17/04/2012 09:54

Argh toy guns... why?!?!?! My nephews all get guns and swords and wrestlers and they are wild as they come.

Also... WHY do the boxes have either only boys or girls playing together on them? If I owned a toy shop all boxes would have to have one boy and one girl playing with said toy on the box or I wouldn't stock it. Also if I owned a toy shop I'd be belly up in a month hahaha! On with the PhD methinks....

ishopthereforeiam · 17/04/2012 10:05

Looks like you ladies may be on to a good idea with a gender neutral toy store Wink now who fancies setting that up between feeds, nappies and naps!?

PoppyS34wantssleep · 17/04/2012 10:11

3bears those clothes are so cute. Sorry your scan was rubbish tash, that's not good :( yes, this is my first so I may well invest as I can imagine it's only going to get more uncomfortable!
Glad DD is back to school picturethis, hope she's mending well. :) SPeak and Spell - :o yes, I had one of those. Remember it very well... loved mine, which was a hand-me-down from older bro and then older Sis.
ham :o :o i LOVE your fish's name. Quality! I also agree about the name/labour idea, i've mentally noted that one down now Wink.

I don't really agree with the pink/blue rubbish toys for girls/boys either. When I was small i had to play with whatever was about, and it was mainly boys toys, so had a great time with train sets and toy cars. :o And when my nephews stop at my Mum's they have to play with the toys she has, which are dolls and stuff - so I think kids will play with whatever you give them. However, I'm guessing our families will have bought stereotypical blue stuff for boys. Hmm

PoppyS34wantssleep · 17/04/2012 10:12

Someone helpfully posted up a list on one of the 'Due in Aug' parts, it was essential items to go?

I don't suppose anyone can remember where it was? I need to start compiling a list of things to buy, so that when we're ready to go I'll know what to get :)

sc0ttishlass · 17/04/2012 10:16

hi all, i am so with you - we havent found out if boy or girl - and it so hard to buy antyhing as all 'boy' or 'girl' - i was goign to buy some plain white (for when literally first born) but as my mum said, even though cheap, waste of money as the minute you know what it is you will choose the nicer baby grow and the white ones wont get used!

nearer the time - i am going to get boy and girl outfit from John L that i like for coming home from hospital and will take back the one I dont need!!

if anyone wants to set up the good neutral store I am in! i have ordered hot air balloon stickers for the nursery wall (not paining it - just nice JL curtains with pink blue and green trees adn then these stickers) - and on the package it says for your little boys nursery, eh, how are hot air balloons for a boy!! obviously because they think the princess is for a girl :)

how is everyone feeling - im good - still dont feel much due to this placenta previa thing, which im learning to accept - but definately getting more flutters in the past week.

im SO struggling to get motivated at work - 15 weeks to go (as we finish 3 weeks before due date) - cant wait - figure the last few weeks at work wont be too hard anyway as will be on wind down.

is anyone else having really weird nightmares?? they are what wakes me up - not any pains etc! althought last night i watched silent witness (love - and love the main girl Dr alexander - i want her figure and style!!) - so maybe that is why last years nighmares were scary and not just vivid dreams ...

happy tuesday all!
xx

PoppyS34wantssleep · 17/04/2012 10:23

Yes! Me. I am having really werid nightmares. :( I've not slept well for about a week, and it's not helped by being unable to find a comfortable sleeping position (and a DP that's snores worse than I don't know what!! Angry).

I'm also getting period type cramps, which are mildly unpleasant, but I'm putting that down to be so vertical now I'm back at work. Bah!

12 weeks for me until Mat leave starts - eek! Really can't wait. :o

ishopthereforeiam · 17/04/2012 10:23

nightmares sound scary scottish Haven't had many myself, my problem is more the getting to and staying asleep bit!

And how are hot air balloons a boy thing!?

poppy i can't remember i'm afraid (where it is but i do recall the discussion, muslins, moses basket, swaddle blankets / cellular blankets, nappies, wipes, nipple pads, sanitary pads etc!) Confused

Looks like we're running out of space here so have started the part 4 thread for a few posts time. Happy chatting!

PoppyS34wantssleep · 17/04/2012 10:25

Thanks ishop I am writing those down now... :o

TheRealMrsSmith · 17/04/2012 10:31

Hi all, it's been a while Smile

I can't believe the time has gone so quickly. Had my 20 week scan and all was well with my little wriggler. I'm joining the ladies who didn't find out the sex too. We went shopping after the scan just to buy one neutral outfit as we already have all the neutral baby clothes from the boys in the loft. We were really surprised at how little choice there was in the unisex sections of the shops. Anything that was in a unisex colour was still obviously styled towards a girl or boy, so will have to keep looking.

I have an obvious bump now which is quite amusing when I see friends who never noticed it before. Got all my old maternity clothes out only to find none of it fits this time round so have had to start again. Have saved myself a bit of money though, got the sewing machine out and made myself a few items to wear.

Sympathise on the comfy sleeping position. I am currently sleeping with a pillow under my bump and one between my knees. Although I wake up having rolled away from all of them Confused

Hope you're all having a good day

panpipe · 17/04/2012 10:43

Completely with you all on the neutral thing! Since we don't know what we're having I've bought some green and purple Winnie the Pooh nursery bedding/curtains etc from a friend of my mum's and will just paint the walls cream which should cover both bases! I haven't bought any clothes yet but I'm going to try and stick with just getting plain white babygros and vests to begin with. Both grandmas are already busily knitting and I figure we'll probably get given loads of clothes so I'm trying to be good and stick to the bare plain minimum!

TheRealMrsSmith · 17/04/2012 11:11

Have just decorated my boys bedroom, so when bump finally moves out of our room will be moving into a blue bedroom with lots of Dr Who paraphernalia regardless of whether it's a boy or girl Grin The midwife did suggest that if I have a girl I should put her in with DD - who is in the smallest room and happens to be 17yo Hmm

WelshLadyCDF · 17/04/2012 11:39

Packing my virtual bag and getting ready to move with you all to Thread 4!!

pintofmilk · 17/04/2012 11:55

Nightmares!! yes, I have been dreaming of having all my teeth pulled out, then last night I was breastfeeding a litter of puppies!!

One more message to go ladies.... I wouldn't know how to start a new thread so will leave that up to someone who knows what they are doing, can only just manage to get the smileys to work after several attempts!!Blush

PoppyS34wantssleep · 17/04/2012 12:03
