Hope not too late - but you usually don't get another scan at all. Normally its one at 12 weeks and one at 20 weeks and thats it. This will be midwife appointment. Probably will be Gestational Diabetes check and other bits and pieces. Good luck.

CrackersandCheese · 29/02/2012 11:33

alex just want to wish you well for the wedding at the weekend. How exciting for you.

absam i ordered the nappies from cheeks and cherries rather than the nappy lady. This is because I wanted to try the gnappies and the new Bumgenius free time and I couldn't find anywhere else that stocked both. I got an email to say that they should be arriving today. Which is quite exciting.

Has anyone had leaky nips yet? This being my first pregnancy, I was rather surprised the other night in bed when my right nip made a little wet patch. Eek.

Hope you got on ok at your appointment missbrie. I'm not expecting anymore scans after the 12 and 20 week one. I think you'll only get these if there's some sort of risk with the pregnancy.

absam32 · 29/02/2012 13:45

yay alex, congratulations! I got married last year, and after years of protesting it wasn't for me, I am a proper convert. I loved the planning, the day and the feeling its given me since. Know its not for everyone, but wish you all the best. Have a fab day!
Thanks cheese&crackers - I haven't seen that site, I'll check it out. Am frankly a bit overwhelmed with the hundreds of reusable nappies on offer...I never realised it would be so complicated.

Haven't experienced the leaky nipples myself yet - eek, it sounds horrid! But on a breastfeeding related note, I wanted to ask if anyone knew if about buying a second hand electric breast pump? Does it sound gross? I assume they can be sterilised, but wondered if anyone has any ideas how to do it without a proper steriliser? I wondered if all the parts were safe to go thru a dishwasher or be boiled?

Angelyaz · 29/02/2012 18:41

Hi all,
Quick question for those on their 2nd+ pregnancy...TMI alert too.
I just had a really painful cramping in my lower abdomen, just above my pubic area, had to breathe through it. Bowels are pretty regular so don't think it's constipation, but do I count it as a braxton hicks contraction? I've had tightening across my belly quite frequently but never pain before. Am 27+3. Should I just keep an eye and see if it happens again? No bleeding or spotting noticed...
Thanks in advance.
X

Angelyaz · 29/02/2012 19:44

Update...

I think it was wind...Blush

Dozeyland · 29/02/2012 20:23

Angelyaz Don't worry i've had this too! It does confuse you if its wind or baby sometimes! a lot is going on in there i guess! Braxton hicks are tightenings (strength can be variable) With DD I started getting them at about 19weeks then got stronger as the weeks went on, with this baby they started the same week, but have intensified already! I get them very frequently, and are stronger. not painful at all but very strong. The MW said in my last pregnancy that this sometimes indicates for an efficient labour, and on my 37week show round i had 3 MW's say the same, and DD's labour was around 3.5hrs. :o

Hope everyone is well. :)

I have also been thinking about reusable nappies, but not sure yet. DD is in disposables (16months) so no idea yet. she will be starting potty training properly soon, she does like her potty at the mo too lol

DP has a meeting on the 14th, probably to find out if he will get HDC or not :( i'm dreading it. if they say no, our world will be turned even more upside down :( they must have a very strong reason to say no considering all the paperwork we have (with full support from the mans son)

I am aiming to get my hospital bag done soon. I just feel like I can't "plan" as such until i know about dp... sounds horrible.

baby is very active & very strong by the feel of it :) people say I am small still. but i feel big! got my 28week check(i'll be 29wks) on monday
so bloods, measurements, urine, normal really... wonder how i'll measure!

Ooo i love weddings, I asked DP jokingly on the phone today and he said "no way, thats a mans job haha"

alwaysanauntie · 01/03/2012 09:17

alex hope you have a wonderful wedding day & enjoy Paris! A weekend away pre-children sounds like a wonderful idea!

crackers just thought I'd let you know I also had bad lower back pain after pg yoga despite not pushing myself in class. I haven't been back since (it wasn't quite what I was expecting & timings didn't suit) but thought I'd get a DVD instead - if anyone has recommendations they'd be appreciated. Also I've had leaky nips for ages (few weeks) and yes, agree it's weird seeing damp patch in bed & trying to figure out what it is! Also, as it's colostrum it can be a bit of a funny colour, nice!

angelyaz I woke up in the middle of the night a couple of days ago with period type cramps & lower back pain & thought surely I can't be going into labour now? Fortunately (in one way!) it turned out I had a dodgy tummy & diarrhoea (sorry if tmi!) but it did give me a real fright, so can sympathise. :o

Hope everyone's feeling as ok as possible, I slept through the whole night so feel a bit more like myself this morning! Although have noticed I need to go a bit slower walking around etc or I get light headed, plus "the hunger" seems to have returned so am trying really hard to eat healthily, but failing most of the time :)

PreciousPuddleduck · 01/03/2012 10:51

Has anybody else noticed baby is now becoming very squirmy in addition to kicks?? iPad is jumping up and own when I rest it on my bump!!
Am 29+ weeks and have no plans to pack hospital bag yet. Maybe I'm lazy!!

VeronicaSpeedwell · 01/03/2012 10:58

It's the iPad which makes me laugh too! Suddenly all of MN goes 'boing' Grin.

alwaysanauntie · 01/03/2012 11:29

Definitely more squirming here, but every time I stop what I'm doing (even if just watching tv) to watch tummy moving, she stops too! Must sense she's being watched & go all shy! :o

AlexTasha · 01/03/2012 11:44

Hi all, thanks so much for the nice comments about the wedding. It was never really a big priority for me either, we had been engaged for over a year with no set date, but since I got pregnant it suddenly seemed like a really good idea to do it before he is born. Then we will just celebrate with family and friends when we get back to Oz, whenever that is! Paris will be nice, our last weekend away just the 2 of us :)

Has anyone started antenatal classes yet? Mine start tomorrow!! So excited!

My bump has started kicking around a lot more too and I would definatlely describe it as squirmy too precious. It feels like he is padding around in there!

Russki · 01/03/2012 13:38

Alex, have a wonderful wedding
Dozey, fingers crossed that you get some good news on the 14th. I'm very envious of your Braxton Hicks and quick birth - i'm not sure that I've had any yet - my stomach went weirdly cone-shaped getting in and out of the bath the other day, but i read that was something to do with stomach muscles separating ... nice!

otherwise, i went in for a GD test today (the 3-hour one), and was seriously grumpy on no breakfast. Took my sugary drink, and promptly threw it all up again, so now have to go through it again next week!

Anyway, hope everyone is well, and sleeping well. I haven't even thought about a hospital bag yet...

Cewafwb · 01/03/2012 15:56

Why am I so hungry again???????

Enfyshedd · 01/03/2012 19:50

Happy St David's Day from Wales everyone!

alwaysanauntie - I'm with you on the stage fright. I have to look down really quickly to see anything. Even if I put my hand on the bump, Wriggles stops moving. Doesn't mind DP's hand there though; maybe my hands are too cold...

Does anyone else get the "flip-flop" feeling (as I call it)? I think it's when LO decides to do a 180°/360° turn and it feels like it's trying to pull you over with him/her. God, that's uncomfortable...

I'm currently having to face up to some major changes to my diet at the moment. DP has had a major telling off by his GP over his (my barely healthy) diet and his BP & cholesterol levels, so he's determined to return to his previous healthier eating ways and in support (and because I know I should improve my diet), I'm joining in. I really know I should do want to improve my diet and now I've hit 3-0 this week (eek!), I suppose there's no better time than the present.

hippieshake · 01/03/2012 20:04

always I've got a pregnancy yoga DVD called bhuddabellies. I bought it off Amazon. It's really good. It has sections for beginners and intermediates and things, and a section focused on breathing to help with birth. It's very relaxing and focuses on feeling your baby inside of you as you stretch and things. (I didn't cry the first time I did it) :)

x

Dozeyland · 01/03/2012 21:35

I've got the Tara Lee boxset, seems good. I just need a yoga mat i think as it doesnt feel that comfy when i do it. and I also do the 10minute solution prenatal one!

How often should we do the dvd?

OP posts:
Angelyaz · 03/03/2012 01:35

Hi all,
Thanks Dozey and Always for the reassurance - who knew wind could be so painful!

Dozey I have been seriously thinking about cloth nappies, I did a lot of research and settled on one brand but then keep coming across other brands I like the look/sound of that have good reviews! We don't have a council trial scheme where I live but we do have some cloth nappy experts, so as soon as I am on mat leave I shall be going to their coffee mornings and trying a few/buying a few different brands to try with baby once we are home from hospital. I will use disposies in hospital, just for ease of practicality, and am open to not getting on at all with cloth, but would love to be able to do it. Good luck on 14th - I shall be keeping fingers crossed for you.

Alex have a wonderful break and a fabulous wedding! And don't even dare think of posting on here while you are away!!

Baby is definitely very squirmy here too, and also suffers from stagefright! I spend hours with my tummy bare lying on the sofa waiting to see the next lurch - as soon as I give up looking, he's vaulting away or moving furniture or something! I have my first antenatal class tomorrow (nightshift tonight and tomorrow night so not sure how much I'll take in...) and am REALLY looking forward to it! I haven't got any further with my hospital bag yet, I keep downloading lists of what to take and am trying to whittle it down to the essentials - I'm sure I'll end up carrying my own bag, so although it's a wheeled one I want it to be light-ish!! Have my GD test next Tues (will be 28+2) and midwife appt - really hoping she can feel what position the baby is in to see if it matches what I think!

Have a great weekend everyone! xxx

Weezie85 · 03/03/2012 06:59

I am another newbie who is 23rd May. I keep having moments of freaking out. First baby and I just keep thinking I am so going to drop beanie, or something equally as bad. It is just getting too real. My bump is coming along which I think is adding to the freaking out, before I didn't look pregnant so could almost live in denial. Haha.
I hadn't even thought about hospital bag or anything like that. Have people gone out and got clothes yet? I don't seem to have much in the way of clothes for beanie but have no idea how much I will actually need. We don't know what we are having yet, so whites and creams.
Also what are people doing about bedding? Are you going to try a swaddle blanket? A sleeping bag thingy? Sooooo confused. Here comes the freak out. Ahhhh.

hippieshake · 04/03/2012 19:10

Welcome Weezie I haven't bought anything for my hospital bag yet, I will do in a few weeks I think. You'll be fine, plenty of Mums on this thread have already had a child so I'm sure that someone will be along to give you some advice :)

I did go and order my pram today, very exciting!! Got the Quinny Buzz 3 with Maxi Cosi car seat. It's funny, I've had my cot delivered and bought quite a few clothes and things, but the pram made it seem really real.

I hope Alex had a lovely wedding and weekend away in Paris.

How are you feeling Dozey ? I hope everyone else has had a nice weekend x

SirCharles · 04/03/2012 19:32

Welcome weezie - no need to fret. We have nothing yet! I figure that so long as DH can acquire a car seat and I have breasts we will be fine.... my mum is busy knitting anyway and if all else fails Tescos do babygros and nappies..... & friends can lend me a sling and offer advice. babies dont need much (I hope!). On the other hand I might need copious amounts of reassurance, wine and chocolate cake!!!!

I looked at sleeping bags and swaddling on line - I understand every baby is different though and some HATE swaddling whereas others wake themselves up with their fists if they are not swaddled. I figure we will work it out when the baby arrives. Those sleeping bags are only suitable from a certain size too so it is difficult to know if one will work until the baby arrives as we wont know how big it is!

Rugbylovingmum · 04/03/2012 20:39

Welcome weezie, I think the freaking out is totally normal. Before DD I kept having crazy dreams that people called round to see the baby (mum, health visitor etc) and I couldn't remember where I had left her. I'd run around looking for her and find her in the laundry basket or behind the sofa Confused. I promise it never actually happened!

We used swaddles for DDs naps - she slept really well when she was all wrapped up - but used sleeping bags at night as I don't think swaddles are great for the long night sleeps. I really liked using sleeping bags as DD was a wriggler and just kicked blankets off and she was in them until she turned 2 and decided she wanted a 'big girl duvet'. We just had a couple of packs of vests and 2 packs of babygro's last time plus a cardi and a little jacket. It's easy to pick up more once the baby is here and you know which colours you want and we were given loads of baby clothes too. There are some lovely little outfits for babies but to be honest she lived in babygro's for the first couple of months - they are just easy and comfy.

Alex hope you had a lovely wedding and a fantastic weekend

We've had a lovely but busy week and weekend. DD is full of energy so we've been doing lots of trips to the park, library and local museum, toddler group, playing at friends etc. It's great to be able to get out about a bit more after all the rubbish weather and DD is loving it but it is sooooo tiring and I am collapsing into bed at 9pm most nights Blush. I'm also starting to get a lot of pain in my hips, back and pelvis - my midwife has given me tips for managing the SPD/PGP and has offered me an appointment with the physio and I'm hoping it won't get any worse. 10 weeks and 2 days to go!

Shortbutsosweet · 04/03/2012 20:55

Hi
Bit late but can I join ? I am 41 ptrgnant with my first child which is due 12 5 12 I don't know sex of the baby

Dozeyland · 04/03/2012 21:31

I am planning on doing my hospital bag soon, 29 weeks tomorrow so will get things together then get organising next week. And get DD's little bag ready. I'm only doing it early as its all very unpredictable with DP's situation so better to get it done.

Hippieshake Thanks, I'm okay. Saw DP today and just needed that great big hug to make things feel ok even for a couple of hours. Hopefully hear some GOOD news about the HDC date (20/5) - praying for good news anyway. He's been told he's doing all of the correct things. but obviously got to just wait for the decision.

Baby bump is very very active, even more so than DD i think?

Got my 28 week check tomorrow, even though i'll be 29 weeks. Blood test (yuk) and just the usual checks. wonder how baby will measure? Hmm...

My friend had her DC2 today, 2 weeks early and 7lb10! but he was breech, which they didnt realise, came out not breathing and rushed off :( but ok now. she did it natural and no tears too.

God i really hope this baby isnt breech. or back to back eeek. plenty of time to turn if it is though. :)

Dp kept referring to bump as "he" without realising earlier lol Its a funny feeling when you dont know the gender isnt it, people saying stuff without realising, and referring to it as he or she. keeps them guessing, and me!

How is everyone?

OP posts:
absam32 · 04/03/2012 22:57

Hello all, Sunday night and eventually in bed after 3 days of worst cold known to man (was most annoyed to have to concede this after I accused husband of just making a big fuss!) and a day of wrestling Ikea and then various flat packs, blinds, curtains and linens getting the nursery set up. V exciting to have it almost done now tho, despite the agonising back pain and post cold fatigue it brought on! Listen to me moan! Hope everyone else's weekends -esp Alex's- went well? 32 weeks tomorrow and counting...2 weeks left at work... there is light at the end of the tunnel!

CrackersandCheese · 05/03/2012 10:16

Hi all

Hope everyone is well. My back pain turned into really bad sciatica which is only just easing off. I'm not going back to yoga. It is clearly not good for me. It's a shame because I did buy the buddha bellies DVD to do in between classes but I'm just not going to chance it. I literally haven't been able to walk. It's been agony.

Feeling much better today and it's funny but the baby seems much happier. I barely felt any movement over the last few days. Just lots of BH as I was bent over in pain. Today though I'm able to walk a little better and the baby is kicking lots.

We went to look at pushchairs at the weekend but I think it will take us a while to find the right one. DP wants one that he can run with and it's difficult finding somewhere that stocks these more specialist designs.

I seem to have the car seat thing figured out now though. I didn't realise the bases would be so expensive though. Some are more expensive than the seat!

Anyway hope everyone has a nice week.
