iowmum88 · 05/03/2012 11:08

hi all, hope you all had a good weekend. i have started my hospital bag just taking the necessities such as lots of maternity pads, breast pads, knickers, nappies, clothes for baby and myself etc. someone can always bring some more things up for you, getting mine done as went into labour at 34 weeks and starting to panic a little!!!

on another thread i am on (pregnant after preterm birth) and a woman on there has had another prem baby at 31 weeks, baby doing very well, but has hit home a little as we both had the fibronectin test done which both came back negative which ment we had over 80% chance of making it to 37 weeks, which i am finding a lot less reassuring now this has happened!

rugby i am experiencing the same as you, i think i have SPD luckily seeing the midwife tomorrow and she can help me i hope! other then that love watching LO moving around, i put my phone on my tummy and watch it move around, getting some very strong kicks and makes me jump sometimes.

moved into our new home a week ago today, very happy with it just have a lot of decorating to do which is a little difficult as DP away for the week so just me and my DS and having a 2 year old and trying to paint is not easy, he isnt silly and if i give him some water and a paint brush he just looks at me like im stupid!

27+5 now getting closer and closer think i am more nervous now then when pregnant with DS cause i know what is coming! anyone else finding that?

didnt have a birth plan with DS as didnt get a chance to do one, and the labour couldnt have gone better really (apart form the whole prem thing) and would like pretty much the same, natural and just did what the midwives told me to do, would possibly like a water birth this time wasnt allowed before. i had no drugs just a little gas and air at the beginning and i honestly cant remember most of the labour and my DP had to fill me in! so i cant imagine what it would be like to have anything as i hate the feeling of not being in control!

i suppose i should change my name as dont live on the isle of wight no more but cant think of any good names!

SirCharles · 05/03/2012 13:34

Hi Dozey - my DH keeps referring to LO as a boy too. very funny as I suggested the name Daisy and he told me that would be no good when he is introduced to the Queen after an international rugby match.... yes i think his mind is running off with him. Gawd, I wonder what he will be like if LO is a girl. I did point out that girls play rugby too and thus Daisy would be a wonderful name.... not sure how convinced he was (secretly i think it is a boy too but no idea why!!!!)

Welcome shortbutsosweet - we are a great bunch and look forward to hearing more from you soon.

iow - my DBs & I were all prem & I have been told I have an increased risk of PE so 32 weeks and 35 weeks will both be big milestones for me.... unfortunately only flying back to the UK at 32+6 so hoping to keep LO inside until after that at least!! Fortunately not working and chillaxing overseas means my BP is fine and all seems to be going well with LO. fingers crossed this continues!

Good luck - hope you can keep going until 37/38 weeks at least.

I dont have SPD but my gawd I had to see a GP last week as "those things which shall not be named" had grown to the size of Wales. (tmi, sorry). was awful. not just painful but actually quite depressing - no control over my own body anymore :( plus puts DH right off any sexiness and ended up with me in a proper depressed hormonal mess at the weekend - poor man was not really sure what to do. Going back to see GP tomorrow to see what the next steps are. She gave me suppositories which stopped the pain but not reduced them - grrrr. Wish the doc would just operate but my DB (a dr) said most drs wont operate on a pregnant woman.... fingers crossed TIA applies ("this is africa" - used for everything from the state of the roads, to how bad the driving is, to how rude people can be!) and hoping this one will operate.

BTW - has anyone else decided on names yet? DH & I cannot agree at all - he offers no names except silly ones but he hates all the names I mention. It is like a non conversation when we start - almost as if he does not really understand we are having an actual baby within the next 11 weeks or so..... & that baby will need a name....

thedizzy1 · 05/03/2012 13:49

Hello ladies, I'm a little late hopping on the train but can I join anyway?? I was originally due on the 11th May, but my c section has now been arranged for April 30th, when I'll be 38 and 5- 8 weeks today, and very strange to know I'll be having my little girl on a Monday (all being well!!). I'm 30, and she'll be my second child- I already have a 7 year old ds, so theoretically, he's old enough now to get fully involved in all of the dirty work ! Very very excited!!
Pleased to met you all, and thanks in advance for keeping me sane as I enjoy the insomnia, heartburn, and general whale-like feelings that this trimester seems to be bringing!!

Rugbylovingmum · 05/03/2012 14:00

SirCharles - I really hope your GP can help with "those things which shall not be named", it must be bloody miserable Sad. We are struggling for names here too. Typically we have a boys name sorted (have agreed on Reuben) but the sonographer was fairly sure we are having a girl. Our shortlist at the moment is Imogen, Ava, Isla, Lily, Alice or Erin but we really aren't sure Confused. BTW I played rugby before DD arrived and loved it so Daisy could definitely still play Wink.

iow - I hope your midwife can give you some tips to help with SPD. Mine recommended a bump support band so I picked one up at Mothercare - it isn't comfy to wear all the time but is good for the park or softplay when I know I'll be running and climbing around after DD. I really hope your LO waits for a few weeks yet before making an appearance. My friend had both of her boys around 32 weeks and although they are now big healthy boys with no problems I know how worrying it was for her in the early days .

Crackers - glad the back pain is easing off and I hope you find a pushchair you like soon.

Hi to everyone else and hope you are all having a relaxing Monday.

Rugbylovingmum · 05/03/2012 14:05

Hi thedizzy1 - welcome to the thread! I am booked in for a c-section too and it is very odd knowing that I will (probably) be having a little girl on 15th May. On the other hand DD was 18 days late and I was sooooo bored and frustrated by the time she arrived it's good to know I won't go past my due date this time. Did you have a c-section last time? Is your DS excited? DD is only 2.5 so she is just starting to understand that she is going to be a big sister, I'm just hoping she won't be too put out by when the baby arrives and she has to share our time and attention.

hippieshake · 05/03/2012 16:15

Hello to all you lovely new ladies :)

Apologies in advance, this may be TMI...
Has anyone had the complete opposite to constipation? I've had 'the runs' now for about 3 weeks. I'm going probably 4-5 times a day. I'm going to speak to my midwife about it when I go to visit her next week. I'm just slightly worried that my body isn't holding on to the nutrients it needs. I'm 27+3 now and I've gained about 10-12lbs.. somedays I'm bloated so it's more like 12, then others it goes back down. I was borderline underweight to begin with so I'm just hoping that Baba is getting all she needs. Although at the 4D scan I had last week she was measuring 9 days bigger/earlier than my due date (although I don't get what that means.)

SirCharles we have our name picked out, I just hope she suits it now when she arrives.

Weezie85 · 05/03/2012 17:14

Thanks for the advise on the sleeping bags. I may buy one swaddling blanket and see if bubs likes :)
Sircharles, we have no idea on names. I mean it's getting bad. No idea what we are having which I think is making it so much harder. I keep suggesting names and OH keeps saying he isn't a fan and talking about middle names. I mean middle names, do you not think we will need a first name. Haha.

Enfyshedd · 05/03/2012 18:13

Hi SirCharles - names picked out here for either outcome. The girl's one was easy - I've had it chosen since I was a teenager and it's similar to DP's mum's name so she'll take it as a complement (she doesn't need to know that there was only ever one choice for a first girl Wink). Boy's name took a bit of discussion as DSS1 & 2 are named for family members of DP (& his ex, but more DP's family), no more family names left are agreeable to both of us and my favourite boy's name won't go with DP's surname! However, we've settled on a name which we both like and everyone we've tried it out on thinks it's a good choice.

My 28wk checkup isn't due until next week when I'll be 29+5 -seems to be on the late side to me considering I'm supposed to be on fortnightly checkups from 32wks Hmm.

Meanwhile, the hope to move before Wriggles makes his/her appearance is not likely to happen in time, so we're moving onto Plan B which means clearing the office/study/dumping ground, moving DSS1 into there, moving DSS2 into DSS1's room and turnng DSS2's room into a nursery (DSS's each get a bigger room which is a plus point for them, DSS2's toys can be banished to his new bigger room instead of the living room floor, and the nursery ends up next to our bedroom). We're setting ourselves a 3 week plan to prepare a room a week. I really hope we can pull this one off - surely 1 room a week isn't too much to ask?

lobba · 05/03/2012 18:45

Hi all, we've discussed names but not really agreed on any yet.
I had another scan today as I'm on a steroid inhaler for my asthma and the consultant requested it - couldn't really see much as LO wasn't cooperating but apparently they're measuring quite big (eek!)
I was at the hospital for 2 hours altogether - I thought I was being good making my appointment later so as not to cause too many probs at work but now I feel like I've lost part of my evening especially as I still have work to do.
I had my anti-D injection - apparently you only get one these days and I have to go back for another scan in 4 weeks when I'll be 32+2.
DPs parents came over yesterday and bought us some stuff, the furniture went up last weekend - without us falling out! The only big thing we still need to get is a pram/pushchair - its' definitely starting to feel more real but as I have quite awhile left at work I'm just getting on and hoping the weeks will fly past.

Dozeyland · 05/03/2012 20:13

Hi All,

And welcome to our newbies :)

I had my 28week check today (even though i'm 29weeks)

Blood tests were done (yuk) urine was negative, and all was perfect really. measuring 29cms, just as i got on the couch baby did exactly what DD used to do and go into one almighty braxton hick lol
MW said that head is down in my pelvis, still "free" not engaged, but down, with its hand near by. thats why i'm feeling lots of movements up top, around belly button and side . but the odd movements down there are obviously the hand! creepy! She said it can still move freely as im only 29weeks. but may stay head down.

Hopefully it will, and not turn breech or back to back in the late weeks :(

i'm 66.7kgs now (10st6) so nice weight gain for my height 5ft7... same as DD i think.. maybe a bit less.

what are everyone measuring at their 28wk checks??

I feel like my boobs are growing now too! but still no leaks! had leaks with DD from about 20weeks.. lovely!

Iowmum88 I sometimes feel like that, but also i know now not to be so horrified as its just got to happen. and tbh it wasnt as bad as i thought eve though the pain was horrid. I just feel like I can't plan much yet (i know you cant anyway eally as birth is unpredictable!) but i mean in the matter of DP.. my birth plan will be the same i think.

SirCharles · 06/03/2012 15:02

hippieshake - please get yourself to your GP immediately.... a week of what you describe is a trigger for going to the GP normally, let alone whilst expecting. Also be aware that it may also trigger "those that shall not be named" which it turns out are triggered by constipation and the opposite.

Dont wait to see your MW as a) she cannot treat it and b) 4 weeks is far too long to wait.

However dont worry about the baby & getting enough nutrients. From what I have been told & friends too - the amazing baby you have in their will take all the nutrients it needs from you and it is you who will be left without! (pleasant thought that actually an unborn child is effectively a parasite on the mother!!!) A friend of mine was very ill in her last pregnancy and worried about nutrients getting through to the baby and the doc reassured her that it would be her left run down and without at the end, definitely not the baby!!

If you dont want to go see the doc why dont you leave a message for him to call you back? At least would put your mind at rest (& mine!!)

Good luck and do keep us posted.

Sandydunes · 06/03/2012 17:05

Hi everyone

I'm 28 weeks and would love to hear what everyone else is eating daily. I'm so confused as to whether or not I'm over or undereating for this stage in pregnancy.
I get really hungry where i just HAVE to eat or I get the shakes, then when I do eat a big breakfast or dinner I feel so so full. I have low iron and low blood pressure which I don't think is helping with the weak feeling.

I try so hard to eat healthily and then end up eating loads of carbs or biscuits to get rid of the weak feeling.

A typical days menu for me would be

BREAKFAST: Porridge or 2 weetabix with semi skimmed milk & half a banana, drizzle of honey on top, cup of tea

SNACK: Fruit & yoghurt (big portion)

LUNCH: Cheese sandwich/ scrambled eggs on toast/ Pitta with tuna, mayo & onion

SNACK: Scone or 2 pancakes or snack a jacks

DINNER: Veggie spag bol/ Veggie chilli/ Tuna pasta/ Salmon fillet with noodles & veg/ Chicken fajitas

AFTER DINNER TREAT!: Couple of cookies & cup of tea

Weekends are slightly more indulgent with creamy hot chocolates for snacks, potato wedges and dips/ pizza for dinner, and muffins from bakery.

Would love to hear what everyone else is eating as I really want to eat healthily but also be getting enough calories for me and baby.

Thanks!

thedizzy1 · 06/03/2012 20:56

Hello again all!
Sandydunes, your diet seems fabulous, and definitely puts me to shame! I am craving all the bad stuff I usually resist- an abundance of salty and carby things, but am trying desperately to balance it out with constant fruit and salad intake (although it's not working!).
Rugbylovingmum, yes, tis a very strange feeling to feel so scheduled, but I can be a bit of a control freak (a lot if you ask dp!!) so I do quite like having it organised. You're having a little lady as well- do you have any names picked out??
I had a c-section with my son as I was very ill throughout my pregnancy with him -- I actually had a stroke at 5 months due to a brain condition that was only discovered once I'd had the stroke , and the neurologists etc all agreed that a natural labour could cause another stroke. They also advised me that another pregnancy could cause similar problems, and was quite high risk, so I feel incredibly lucky to have got this far unscathed!! Was it your previous overdue-ness ( I'm sure there's a better word than that!) that's warrented your c section this time around??
Lovely again to hear your stories and to meet you all - I'm off to have a bath and try to find extra pillows as DP is building furniture and is thus unavailable for back rubbing duties!

alwaysanauntie · 07/03/2012 08:38

Wow sandydunes your diet sounds perfect to me! My food yesterday was:

Bfast: mix of branflakes & crunchy cereal with choc curls with a cup of tea.
Snacks: hula hoops, tracker bar, slice of simnel cake & cup of tea.
Lunch: pasta with chicken & vegetables.
Snack: slice of almond & lemon sponge cake (birthday in office hence all the cake!) and a Clementine.
Dinner: small bottle of cobra beer, cheese & ham omlet with chips.

I also always have a bottle of water with me & probably drink 1-2 litres a day. I'm now having smaller portions for main meals due to heartburn, and we normally have meat, potatoes & veg for dinner plus I try to buy fruit to keep as snack at work to stop me scoffing so much junk, but was at college this weekend so have been too lazy to go to shops since... I've also been really hungry in the mornings, much less so in afternoon, but if I'm peckish have just been grabbing whatever's around :o !

On the name front, we have a shortlist but want something a bit unusual so bought a names book last week to peruse (3 of our favorites were in the top 10 girls names last year) so the search continues...

iowmum88 · 07/03/2012 10:31

We have our name picked out but have backups if it doesn't suite baby when he arrives.

Midwife referred me to physio for SPD/PGP but I'm guessing there isn't much they can do except bump support and maybe crutches, been told to take regular paracetamol but I don't like taking pain killers at the best of times so not keen on doing it during pregnancy.

I'm kinda working off the logic shit pregnancy and get to term as DS was problem free and came early, if that makes any sence at all!

I don't seem to be eating that much and eat fruit as much as I can but find myself picking at sweets in the evening. Am trying to eat smaller portions as well cause of indigestion.

Having a bit of a down day and feeling sorry for myself n the rubbish weather doesn't help and DP working away so no one to really moan to or have a good cuddle with.

Sorry for the moaning I know there are people having a worser time then me.

Sandydunes · 07/03/2012 12:22

Thanks for your replies but honestly, honestly, my diet is not perfect. I've just gorged this morning on bakery pancakes with nutella smothered on them LOL. That's what I get for going for a walk and trying to do exercise...ravenous carb craving!
I do try to be healthy during the week but at weekends it all goes out the window. Once hubby opens a packet of Kettle Chips I can't stop! And the lure of the takeaway on a saturday is too strong....well you've got to have some pleasures when gin & t is off the menu!

the dizzy1- how scary for you the first time round. I hope you are fully recovered from your stroke now x

alwaysanauntie- you have just reminded me to take a big drink of water. I'm useless at getting my 2 litres because I'm so sick of needing to pee all the time.

iowmum88- sorry you're having a down day. I was like that on Monday....I got kept back late at work and was so tired and hungry and uncomfortable in the office chair that I actually had tears welling up!

SirCharles · 07/03/2012 14:13

afternoon all! How is everyone?
I have just woken up from a 1 1/2 hour nap on the sofa - got back from the gym and thought about making lunch and then ... oops! woke up feeling very weak and feeble.
talk of eating on the forum I see! Well, I seem to have forgotten what a portion is and either give myself too much or too little food.... am trying to balance my gut requirement for fibre and my problem with heart burn although really do not seem to get it right. I try to balance the sweets with exercise.... not sure how healthy an approach it is but well, as someone else said - what else am I to do when G'n'T is off the menu!
I drink lots of water but am sure this LO must lie on my bladder as sometimes I am desperate to go but only the tiniest amount is expelled - v boring, especially at 3am :0
I have started taking Lactulose daily now on the advice of the dr re reducing the likelihood of "those that shall not be named" getting any worse. The trick she tells me is to avoid getting the runs whilst also avoiding constipation - supposedly both extremes will cause the problem again so I "must remain vigilant" - grrrr.
Today I have eaten:
b'fast - fruit juice, tea, fruit salad, yoghurt & muesli
snack - small banana (usually I have a small bowl of bran flakes too but I was out so banana has to suffice!)
Lunch - brocolli & cauliflower cheese with rocket & ham, peppermint tea
snack - choc covered biscuit balls & Percy Pigs (v excited to find them out here in the M&S equivalent - named Woolworths!!!). Usually I have fruit salad & yoghurt as an afternoon snack but I got distracted by the Percy Pigs :)

For dinner tonight we have green beans, corn on the cob and ostrich steaks followed by fruit salad but last night we went out and i had scallops then steak & lobster tail with a jacket potato polished off with icecream, honeycomb & choc sauce. yum.

I also keep a banana by the bed now as I have been waking up at 3 or 4am not only needing the bathroom but STARVING and unable to cure this problem without waking DH I end up lying there wide awake until about 5am. not good. of course since i placed the banana there I have not needed it!

Actually out here I am so much healthier than I was in London. The combo of not working and sunshine equals healthy food and daily exercise. I wonder how I will keep it up when I get back...

Sandy - keep up the good work. That day sounded pretty good although I would add more fruit n veg/other roughage to keep my insides from stalling.

BlueCrane · 07/03/2012 14:31

Hello! Just found you all again after I fell off the last thread Blush got my 28 wk MW check tomorrow (I'll be 28+2) 'Beany the ferret' as the contents of my bump is now referred to is super super active always bouncing, stretching, kicking and moving around!! Had another bad bout of constipation this morning and nearly fainted at work Blush so have come to work MN from home so I can take some lactulose without fear of gassing the whole office with the side effects Blush My pelvis also feels as though someone's been punching or pulling it by the time I get to bed and rolling over and in fact just sleeping is getting less and less comfortable, which combined with the multiple loo trips is getting to be a bit of a pain! Wondering whether I need to buy one of those fancy pregnancy pillows, but scared I'll spend a small fortune on it and then get in a real muddle in bed with it not able to roll over whilst holding it etc!

Hope everyone else is well - will pop back up thread and have a good read now!

Wommer · 07/03/2012 15:25

Hi all,
Far far too ashamed of my diet to even consider telling you what I eat...
Just assume I'm a paragon of virtue who exists on wheatgrass and organic carrots and we'll leave it there shall we?!
Any and all will power I used to have regarding food disappeared at the same time I saw 2 little blue lines!

On another note saw the mw yesterday. Am measuring 29cm and am 29w+2 so pleased about that.
She did tell me off however for not having my notes with me at all times, as apparently at this point I need to. Anyone else been told this/started carrying them?

Xx

BloominB · 08/03/2012 09:06

Hi All,
On the subject of diet Sandydunes... yours sounds very good and well balanced. I'm trying to be good, was very fond of sweets earlier in pregnancy but that seems to have passed now. Making a real effort now to have fruit and fibre now to help with digestion and I'm also worried about my weight gain.

I'm 27 +4 now and I have gained 25lbs so far!!! That puts me well over the average weight gain. I'm 5ft 8" - started at 141lbs now I'm 166. Definitely not able to exercise like I used to so that is not helping. I'd love to know how is everyone else doing - real pregnant women not the stats I'm supposed to be? Any advice appreciated. Thanks x

heartmoonshadow · 08/03/2012 09:16

I have put on 10lbs at 32 weeks pregnant but I did lose 8lbs at the beginning so I suppose I have put on 18lbs in reality however saying that I am happy as I am a big girl anyway so the less over my start weight the better. I have this week though noticed my appetite has grown exponentially and I am having to be very careful with portion sizes.

alwaysanauntie · 08/03/2012 09:59

bloominb I started at 158 lbs and am 5 ft 5, weighed myself last week and was 166 lbs at 29 weeks. I think so much depends on how you were to start with and encouragingly for me my DH doesn't think my shape has changed except for the bump! :)

When the midwife measured me at 28 weeks (spot on) she thought I was around 29 cms, but measured from lower down than gp who pushed really hard to find top of pubic bone to measure from so am not too worried if she says I'm a week ahead. I'll be 31 weeks next tues and have next gp appt so will update then.

Can't remember who said about getting a maternity pillow, I bought a dreamgenii on eBay, but its a real faff & you really can't roll over with it. I'm now just using a small throw cushion with a satiny cover between my knees, helps a lot and is easier to manoeuvre plus satin cover means it doesn't get too hot & make me feel uncomfortable.

Chimes with me at the moment - my hypnobirthing CD & book arrived today! We start our classes next month - fingers crossed have enough time to practice. Even if it does not remove the need for drugs at least it might allow this stressed out diva to relax a little more than she usually does under stress!

Sandydunes · 08/03/2012 11:41

Oh dear I started at 8 and a half stone and am now 10 stone. the only thing comforting me is that I am exactly the same as I was with my first baby so everything is going the same way. But why oh why do I have to put weight on my face, I hate that!
I tried to do a 40 minute walk yesterday and was wrecked for the rest of the day!

Wommer you just made me laugh with your wheatgrass and carrot sticks. I have never been told to carry notes at all times, is this incase you go into labour?!

Sandydunes · 08/03/2012 11:45

PS Sircharles, why did you have to mention the Percy Pigs...believe it or not I managed to convince myself that its okay to eat a bag of the new veggie Percy Pigs as they're veggie so must be healthy.
