Morning all...just back from 28wk MW app and all is well Smile Mini-blue is apparently head down with legs and bum kicking my bump...that would be what all the movement is then!! So it must be little hands that keep tapping on my hip bones too! I measured 27cm but the MW didn't press as hard to find the exact top and bottom of my uterus this time so as someone else said I'm not particularly concerned about the smaller measurement.

Re. weight gain I started off at 10st5 and yesterday weighed in at 11st10 which is a 19lb increase I think. What has been a tad irritating is that when I came off the pill I was about 9st8, then by the time we started TTC I was just over 10st (I thought you lost weight when you came off the pill?!?) but then had an MMC before conceiving this bean and in the mean time put on those extra 5lb...so am definitely feeling a lot heavier/larger than I would like to be and not liking photos at the moment as my face definitely feels rounder!! Having said all of that I feel as though my body is slimming a little at the moment as bump is getting bigger - or maybe bump being bigger is just balancing it out Blush DH still says I look great though so as someone else says that's the main thing really Smile

Thanks for the feedback on the cushion always I think I'll stick with a series of smaller cushions as just can't be doing with dealing with a huge one when i want to roll over!! I think part of the reason I was in so much pain the other night was to do with trapped wind (again!) and constipation which wasn't helping!

Right...back to work...

hippieshake · 08/03/2012 16:07

I'm loving reading what you're all eating. Sandy the veggie Percy Pig thing made me laugh loads. I used to love them (before I turned veggie) now they've brought out the veggie ones the thought of them makes me feel sick :(

I started at 116lbs 5'7(ish) and now I'm 128lbs. I don't think I really look like I've put much weight on, it mostly seems to be boobs and a bit of bottom.

Going for my re-scan later, so we shall see if Baba really is measuring 9 days ahead of schedule x

SirCharles · 08/03/2012 20:55

Evening! Well we had our check up and another scan today. B is HUGE! Gawd help me.... Supposed to be 29+5 but some measurements are at 31 or even 33 week proportions! Dr even said "someone in your family has a big round head" (my dad, my brothers, DH nephew and half brother & DH is rugby type build)..... Keep reminding myself that they often get these things wrong.... I have had friends told to expect 10lbers only to actually have a 6lbs long thin baby! Fingers crossed.... My mum said she always measured ahead in all 4 of her pregnancies - can it be genetic?! Am fretting now about how It is going to get out. He said it already weighs 1.7kg which is about 250g more than what he would expect....
Every time I go for a check up the computer takes 6 days off the EDD although they won't alter it in my notes as the EDD is dictated by the your last period.

We shall see - trying not to worry about it as we are off to Cape Town in the morning for a few days.
Hope everyone else is doing well, sorry for the ramble.

Angelyaz · 09/03/2012 04:05

sir charles so many mums I know have been told they are expecting a giant baby, from measurements and scans, and the majority of them have had perfectly reasonable sized monkeys! So I would try not to worry about it - also they go through growth spurts in the womb just like when out, so maybe B has just had a growth spurt and will even out in the next couple of weeks. My 20wk scan showed I had a huge headed, long legged baby - I am sure I'm not actually going to give birth to a lollipop looking thing...

Weightwise I was overweight before I even got pregnant (although was losing weight on SW), but being pregnant seems to suit me. My diet has much improved, I don't seem to snack as much, and I am the same weight now as when I conceived! I haven't actually been dieting, as I know it is frowned upon, just my appetite and tastes seem to have got healthier. I know I am extremely chuffed with maintaining my weight (especially as there will be the best part of a stone coming off once baby is born!) and my midwife is happy with it too. Mind you I have worked hard to get at least my 5 a day, whcih was a struggle as I find being faced with lots of fruit quite daunting. But I have discovered various dried fruits, and only 30g is needed to make up a portion, so I have dried apple, banana and apricot every day. The bonus is that I haven't had any constipation either, so hopefully will avoid the dreaded blight that we do not name...

Eek, posted a bit more than I expected - the beauty of night shift delirium!!

karatekimmi · 09/03/2012 05:26

Hi all, it's been a while, but it's been nice to catch up on all your gossip.

Weight wise I've put on a stone, but was a big girl to start with.

After being told no, at my first appointment due to my weight/bmi inhave found out that I can have a water birth so am happier about my birthing plan now :) it means changing hospitals but it's the same distance in the opposite direction.

Food wise, I've found it easier to make healthy choices when what you eat affects (or effects? I never know) someone else!!! Been having
breakfast- belvita, then carrot and celery sticks with dip.
Lunch- sandwiches, the rest of carrot celery sticks, 2/3 satsumas, del monte fruit pot, maybe crisps and choc biscuit.
Dinner- homecooked meal- spaghetti bol, cottage pie, meat and veg etc.

Have found small and often is the way forward as if I'm not careful I have wicked heart burn! Gaviscon is my new best friend!!

I need to do better on the water front, but as a teacher of 3 hour lessons (who has had a few leaky moments down there) I hate the feeling of needing to pee, so tend to drink loads when I get home from work, but not much throughout the day. Must do better!!

Off to a wedding this weekend, but not really looking forward to it- too much sitting on upright chairs and stading around! I prefere walking around or horizontal!!! Think I might need a hoist to get me off the sofa at some point soon!! And they never feed you when you need to be fed! I'll be taking a picnic in my hand bag!!!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend

AlexTasha · 09/03/2012 13:40

Hi all,

Really nice to catch up on all your posts.

My wedding was fantastic thanks. It was at Camden Registry office and was really informal and nice and then we went for lunch with our friends and jumped on the Eurostar to Paris. It was cold, but we just jumped on one of those tourist buses and saw the sights. Luckilly we have been before because I wasn't inclined to line up for the Louvre or Eiffel Tower again!! We ate loads of nice food and just relaxed.

Weirdest thing happened afterwards though (apart from the 3 hour Eurostar delay home!). At my antenatal class the following day I found out my antenatal midwife had been in Paris, at the same hotel as us! What are the odds of that!?

My baby had been lying transverse (across) but luckilly he did a little flip and now he is lying in the correct position (head down) but kind of side on. I can feel him sooo much more now though.

I am craving jalepenos. I can't get enough of them, and I am putting chilli in everything, even chicken and bacon pasta bake! The spicier the better at the moment. I think the little one likes it too cos he jigs around after I have eaten anything spicy.

I was told to carry my notes around from day 1 so they have always been in my handbag.... annoying now that I have 2 sets though, cos I changed hospitals!!

Pillows - I bought a 'narrow' mothercare pregnancy pillow, one of the ones that you can prop under your tummy and put inbetween your knees. It is a godsend. I can't sleep without it now. Easy to flip it with you when rolling over and stuff too. I think I will continue using it after I have had the baby!! Hahaha.

I ordered my hospital bag yesterday. This is what I included if anyone wants to know

ME BABY

Stripey dress Bodysuits
Nursing bras Sleepsuits
Undies Hat
Yoga pants Mittens

Nighties Blanket

Makeup Baby towel
Makeup wipes Sudocrem

I just included some ready made formula and a bottle incase I can't breastfeed for any reason, better to be prepared I thought!!

:)

AlexTasha · 09/03/2012 13:41

The 'baby' line is nexto everything on the 'me' line, there was a bigger gap when I copied it in!! haha

alwaysanauntie · 09/03/2012 14:07

Ooh, alextasha very organised! I've just done a boots shop for hospital bag stuff like sudocrem, maternity & breast pads, baby oil, wipes etc as I want to get things together in case. DH seems to be slightly in denial & I have a feeling nugget will arrive early so want at least one of us to be prepared! Still planning to have her at home, but as only an option after 37 weeks & I'll need the same stuff anyway didn't think it would do any harm. :o

Also think I've decided on the changing bag I want, so am hoping to buy & kit it out soon so it's one less thing to think about when I can't be added to drag my butt off the sofa. Will try to put a link up to it later, but am on mobile at the mo. Planning on painting the cot this weekend as weather seems ok, but have been saying the same thing since we got it over a month ago :)

AlexTasha · 09/03/2012 17:00

always Oooo I can't wait to see your bag. I bought the Babymel Ella bag in mocha. I love it.

www.mothercare.com/Babymel-Ella-Bag-Mocha/dp/B005QLBS36?extid=gs

alwaysanauntie · 09/03/2012 18:13

Obviously "when I can't be added to drag my butt off the sofa" should read "when I can't be arsed to drag my butt off the sofa" (hate using phone to post!).

Alextasha glad you're excited about it, DH certainly isn't & mum wasn't too fussed when I showed her on Monday (DGC no 9 for her though, so I guess it's all old hat by now!). The Babymel does look nice, plus it's wipe clean inside - bonus! :) Anyway, here's the link to the one I fancy Changing Bag they also do a blue & green one, but as I'm getting the champagne Maclaren buggy this should match nicely, plus DH shouldn't be too embarrassed to carry it round :o Also I found it really helpful to be able to see it in store and open all the pockets (haven't checked them out at Mothercare yet, suppose I should as it's across the road from work). We'll see, may also check on ebay to see if I can get anything cheaper, £80 sounds like a lot at the moment Hmm

hippieshake · 09/03/2012 20:43

Alex I'm so glad that you had a lovely wedding and trip away to Paris. You must be feeling on top of the world right now :)

Feeling very bloated today, I've put 2lbs on in two days... I'm thinking it's water, eugh. I feel very heavy in my stomach.

x

Dozeyland · 10/03/2012 20:12

Alextasha Good to hear you had a lovely wedding :)
Godd stuff in your hospital bag, the only thing I found is with the packing of formula I've heard its a very tempting thing if baby isnt breastfeeding great at the beginning. It took us 10weeks to be pain-free, and then entered the Zen of breastfeeding & how amazing it is. And some MW's aren't very helpful with the breastfeeding and just get trigger-happy when you have formula ready. hence why I didnt pack any butits obviously down to individual preference :)

30 weeks on monday, still doesnt seem real. And I just feel numb really. I'm obviously excited about having another little baby. But its just the surrounding circumstances of utter sadness and confusion as to how our lives will be without DP home. :(

How is everyone?

always I like your bag. I loved lookng for a changing bag and everything to go in it. I am excited for you!

We finished painting the nursery on the weekend! Yay. Now to start ordering the bits and pieces to go in it.

Thanks hippie and dozey. That's a good point about the breastfeeding Dozey, but I will really try and persevere. It's only there for an emergency ( like not having ANY milk).

Rugbylovingmum · 12/03/2012 12:29

Hi all,

30 weeks today Grin!

I never seem to have time to post these days but I have been lurking and just wanted to say that when DD1 was born she had some mucus in her stomach/lungs (quite common after c-section) and she struggled to breastfeed over the first 48 hours. I initially expressed some milk and fed her using a syringe but I was shattered on the first night post-op and struggled to express so the midwives gave her a little formula from a cup. Luckily that helped her bring up the mucus and the bfeeding went really well after that - I finished up bfeeeding for 10 months. Anyway, just to say I wouldn't worry too much about taking formula into the hospital - they will have formula/cups/bottles there if you have problems and they won't let the baby go without milk.

Also don't stress if the bfeeding is tough at first - when I still couldn't get her to latch on properly after 48 hours I was worried we'd never get the hang of it and it took a couple of weeks to really get the position etc sorted but after that it was a breeze. Loads of people tell you that bfeeding is totally natural and easy but most mums I've spoken to said that it took a while to get sorted and they needed a bit of help from the midwife/health visitor.

I'm looking for a new changing bag now too - I have a big bag for DD but it's constantly full of crap and I'm always digging in it to find nappies etc under the piles of clean clothes, bibs, colouring pencils, hat, snacks ........... I'll never find anything when I have stuff for 2 kids in there! I think I might get a smaller bag just for nappies and wipes and then use a rucksack or the bag I have for clean clothes, snacks and toys.

Dozey - I hope you get some news about DP soon. I can't imagine how tough this must be for you Sad.

alwaysanauntie · 12/03/2012 13:58

Also on the breast feeding front, my dsis had her first DD bang on 37 weeks, and apparently babies can loose their sucking reflex at this age so she was fed with expressed milk from a cup for a week or so until she re-learnt how to suck. Just a random anecdote for you all to relieve the Monday afternoon boredom!

Dozeyland · 12/03/2012 22:05

Doesnt look like DP will be home for May :(

OP posts:
alwaysanauntie · 13/03/2012 09:25

Dozey so sorry, is there any chance of appeal over the coming 2 months or is that the decision made? Keep being strong, you've done so well up to now & remember we're all here for you when you need to vent. Sending big hugs xxx

Dozeyland · 13/03/2012 12:36

Its not 100% but its unlikely he's not going to get his release for May. He's got the backing from the deceased's son. reports with flying colours, amazing report from his brief. he's working in there. doing courses, being himself - genuwine. but still doesnt seem enough.

I can't face being alone anymore. and doing it on my own. and him missing out more than anything.

Had a tough few days of constant crying. DD is teething I think too. she's been good as gold. but i've noticed she always has a day where she's very upset (the day after seing DP) and thinks im leaving her all the time. so heartbreaking.

now being 30weeks. and my emotions flying everywhere. I just lose patience so quickly. and i slammed a door earlier. and then cried my eyes out then she cried. and i justtnk. Shes going to hate me. the way i am right now. a tearful mess. the majority of the week when we have stuff planned I just get on with it. and some days its nice to have days at home. but when she's upset. and im upset. we're just a house full of sadness. from only 2 people.

God knows what the effect will be on DC.

I already feel like a shit mum lately just feeling down. and now i feel even more terrible and guilty towards DC for feeling so crappy.

When we have good days when we just keep busy. DD & I have so much fun. she's amazing. she plays well. is always happy. its just the day after or next day after seeing dp she gets a bit confused.

or i'm just the problem

OP posts:
alwaysanauntie · 13/03/2012 13:03

I can't imagine how frustrating and difficult it must be for you. Try not to beat yourself up about being upset, it's perfectly understandable given the circumstances! Also, it's not surprising your DD is down after seeing her daddy, all I can suggest is explaining to her why you're sad but that you love her & her daddy and he is coming back & it will get better. I know she's only young, but I think kids take in a lot more than we give them credit for.

Are you able to get any help with her care to give yourself a break now & again? It sounds like you could do with some time alone to just flop & process everything. Also have you thought about having a counselling session with your gp? May help to talk through your feelings with someone independent. Finally, I can't remember where I read it, but apparently stress in pg has no effect on your unborn dc (will try & post link to study if I can remember & find it when I get home) so please don't feel worse for their sake, they are cocooned away in their own little world, and so long as you're eating well they'll be just fine :)

AlexTasha · 13/03/2012 14:49

dozey you poor thing, I'm sure you are not a shit mum. You're daughter sounds like a little angel too. Why do you think he wont be released? have they said anything for certain? Fingers crossed for you.

Dozeyland · 13/03/2012 17:13

He's been told by one officer that he's not going to get it. And just nothing
Seems to be progressing.

OP posts:
SirCharles · 13/03/2012 17:25

dozey you are a great mum or your DD would not be so fabulous - keep that in mind at all times. And remember even hard times come to an end so hang in there with DD and DC. Your poor DP. Must be worried about you all too.
Here have a HUGE hug, some Wine, Brew & Thanks wine, tea & flowers. We don't mind you blasting away on here. So much easier to do it virtually whenever you feel like - keep it coming if it helps :)

Alex ooh you lucky lady. Congrats on joining the Marrieds Club. It really does change things very much for the better. Enjoy! Sounds like your honeymoon was perfect too. Congrats.

I have a BF book on kindle called "the womanly art of BF". Very good read. I recommend it. My friends who succeeded with BF beyond 8 weeks all recommend finding a Lactation Consultant nearby before giving birth. They all said it was a godsend and helped them get a good latch, which is allegedly v nec to avoid colic and mastitis. Will see how I go when B arrives but my mum BF my youngest DB until he was nearly two so am hoping I can do it for as long as I want to. That DB is definitely the most independent, healthy & lean out of all 4 of us - who knows if BF is part of the reason or not!

Less than 3 weeks until I return to the UK. Am starting a Boots list so I can order stuff for the hospital bag on line - might have to get it sent to a friend tho as have no where to live just yet!

30 weeks - yikes. All getting real now girls!!

Dozeyland · 13/03/2012 19:18

I need her with me if i'm honest otherwise i feel worse. Being kept busy is what i need. thankfully she sleeps roughly 7-6:45am. So I try to wind out in the evenings. and try not to think about being alone...

She's always with her little friends at groups & I then have an hour or so with my couple of friends. or chat to the other mums.

I feel terrible for putting a negative vibe on this thread :(
