It has definitely been busy on here! We're not officially thinking of names until we've had the 20 week scan and (hopefully) can find out if we're having a girl or boy. But I love Annabel and Phoebe from the previous girl's list. Love George and Freddie too. Being a teacher, I find it really hard to think of names where I've not taught someone (usually an absolute terror) with that name.

I had my 16 week appointment with the Midwife yesterday. It wasn't nearly as long as the booking-in appointment, but I did get to hear the baby's heartbeat with a doppler machine. When I had my scan, the baby was really low down, but now he or she is only about 2 inches below my bellybutton. So maybe the growing stomach isn't just due to my growing appetite! Smile

That said, I got on the scales this morning, and I'm officially heavier than I've ever been! I've put on 6 pounds so far. How much is a normal amount to put on??? I'm not quite ready for maternity trousers yet, but I definitely have a limited section of my wardrobe that I can still get in to. Smile

I'm now off to research what our finances will be like after August...aaarrggghhh! I think the maternity package is ok, but I'm hoping that I won't have to go back to work after the baby is born - it seems silly with how much we'd have to pay in childcare, the money spent on an extra car and the petrol, and just the stress and pressure of my job. Is anyone else thinking about giving up work?

Vinolover · 21/02/2012 10:01

Oh, and my tummy is lovely and hairy! Such a sexy look Wink

PoppyS34 · 21/02/2012 10:12

I think I'm having a boy too, I've said that from the beginning, so can't wait to find out for sure - three weeks to go..! I like the name George.

Gnomi not sure how much is normal, but I'm also heavier than I've ever been, however it all seems to be bump at the moment.. I am really trying to watch what I eat as I put on weight just looking at the TV and I normally have to watch what I eat, but I'm usually way more active than I have been over the past few months.

I'd love to stop home with the baby and not go back to work, but that's just not possible, unless i come up with a genius idea that I can work from home with and make some money :(

Happy Pancake Day everyone, can't wait for some pancakes later - what's your favourite combo? :o

0FrillyKnickers0 · 21/02/2012 10:15

Vino, I'm so glad I'm not the only one with a hairier tummy...what is that about??

These bump bands from New Look. Can you get them online? I don't think our NL has a maternity section...

PoppyS34 · 21/02/2012 10:22

frilly you sure can. Here's the link I used:

www.newlook.com/shop/womens/maternity/3pk-bump-bands_240639104?productFind=search

And I'm still very grateful to Angel for recommending them. :o

vanimal · 21/02/2012 10:25

Hi, can I join? I was on the Sept board, by my dating scan showed I am due earlier than I thought :)

I am: vanimal (37) DC3 due 22/08/12

I am having a good pg so far - had horrendous morning sickness, and still have good days and bad but generally much, much better than I was.

Unfortunately we have just found out that our baby at high risk for having Downs, so awaiting a counselling appt at the hospital tomorrow, followed by an amnio to diagnose either way. So it's a bit stressful at the moment but I am keeping positive.

DDs are aged 2 and 4 and are very excited about having a new baby. DD2 was watching me throwing up this morning and kept asking me if I am ok. So cute and thoughtful for a 2 year old

I hope you are all well.

MrsMigginslovespies · 21/02/2012 12:03

Gnomi those were my names you like [preens]!! George is great. I like it more than DH therefore vetoed, but I think it's fab.

Poppy, I've pput on at least half a stone and am also heaviest I've ever been. Agh. But am not getting too stressed about it, just trying to be careful and not eat all the pancakes I'm making for lunch as I adore them. Am pancake purist, so lemon and sugar, or nutella or jam are my favs. I know, bit dull, but so nice.

Welcome Vanimal lovely to see you here, have a pancake on me! Good luck with your appointment tomorrow. Your little ones sounds really sweet!

Off to prep lunch and test a pancake. Might have with cheese... x

glittershoes · 21/02/2012 12:20

Hi all!

I have officially decided that ebay is the way forward for maternity clothes. In the past 24 hours I have 'won' an isabella oliver dress, an isabella oliver wrap top, two pairs of jeans (one gap and one topshop) and a pair of next linen trousers. All for a total of £80! Add that to the five sale tops I bought in Pumpkin Patch the other day for £25 and the belly bands (loving them already!) I picked up in topshop and I am nearly set!

Just have to stop obsessively looking on ebay now - tis a struggle as it is a tad addictive! But then someone also advised leggings.... and I could probably use some day dresses.... Grin

I would love love love to not go back to work Gnomi but, unless DH gets a MASSIVE promotion or we win the lottery then it is looking unlikely! I am planning to take the full year off though and we are saving madly to make that possible. The whole finances issue really stresses me though. It is such an adjustment, sort of relying on savings/DH's salary when I am so used to being paid and just spending what I want (as you can see above....).

I have made the very wise decision to just not weigh myself! It will just upset me and possibly make me worry so I am going to go by how I feel and look and try and stay active (ha!) and eat healthily (ha ha!).

glittershoes · 21/02/2012 12:21

Forgot to say hi Vanimal!

Your two girls sound so lovely, really hoping that the test comes back with nothing to worry about. x

JParkson · 21/02/2012 12:34

Lol glitter I was watching an Issi Olli dress, maybe you bought it! I had one for my last pg, but it didn't fit me anymore (dropped 2 dress sizes) so I sold it 3 months ago.

I've bought 2 pairs of maternity shorts, but other than that I'm holding off. I really need to try things on first, so once I can get off my arse sort things out I'll pop to my local NL and have a browse. I popped in there the other day but I wasn't too impressed with their range this time round. Last pg I bought 2 pairs of denim look leggings (which I still have now) and quite a few t-shirts, which again, I still have.

I want to get some better fitting leggings, and maybe one pair of jeans, but so far, they're mostly fecking skinny legs - I hate skinny legs! I love bootcuts and flares, as I'm very hip-y and need to balance myself out.

I ducked out of my weigh group last week, claiming SPD, but also being half term, I'd been stuffing my face with endless bread, chocolate and cake! I'm trying to behave this week, so I might face the firing squad this week... I've put on probably 1/2 stone since falling pg - I really want to stop it from going doo-lally!

I have my 16 week appt this afternoon - let's see what she says this week, and whether I can hear Pickle.

Mrs M, I couldn't live without my choir - I 'commute' with several other members from Swindon on average once a month. We do have members come down from Nottingham too, but I think Scotland might be a bit of a tough ask! Wink

JParkson · 21/02/2012 12:35

vanimal I meant to say hi, sorry Blush

Ditto what glitter said - your girls sound sweet (made me say aww when I read your post), and I hope the amnio goes well, and results are positive.

0FrillyKnickers0 · 21/02/2012 13:41

Welcome Vanimal!

I was sick again last night :(

And I forgot it was pancake day and have no lemons. Bum bum bum bum bum.

That means I'll have to go out! Urgh.

Gnomi · 21/02/2012 14:40

Hi Vanimal, hope all goes well tomorrow.

MrsMiggins Are you finding out if you're having a boy or a girl? Have to say I've taught both an Annabel and a George, and both were lovely.

PoppyS I know what you mean about being active - before I got pregnant I was on the go all the time, but now I crash around 7pm. I can barely shift myself to get to the pool for a swim once a week.

Having done the maths, money will be very tight, but if I were to go back to work full time, we'd only be £300 better off each month. I'm hoping I can rake in around that by offering tutoring and doing exam marking in the evenings and weekends. To go part time would barely cover the cost of petrol to get to work and maintaining a car, plus childcare.

Frilly Are lemons obligatory? I'm thinking about savoury pancakes with ham and cheese.

MrsMigginslovespies · 21/02/2012 14:40

Hmm, ebay huh?! Might have to have a tiny little look...will report back on any success. In a moment of blonde madness left my bank card on Thursday in a shop miles away so have to schlep out to pick it up as bless them, they kept it safe for me.

Pancakes for lunch were yummy. DH in a grump not so much.

0FrillyKnickers0 · 21/02/2012 16:04

Gnomi, to be honest I've never been into pancakes unless they have lemon juice and sugar on them! I will def give savoury ones a whirl one day!

JParkson · 21/02/2012 16:11

I was brought up on savoury pancakes, as my mum is German, and insisted that sugar and lemon juice didn't make a satisfactory tea!

DH and DS are warming up to savoury pancakes since I made some waffles the other day to go with some left-over chicken. I whizzed up some chicken mayo salad type stuff, and they hoovered down the waffles with said mayo. And they've asked for that tonight, so I'll be making a double load and keeping some back to go with some golden syrup/nutella/sugar & lemon juice (delete as applicable) lol

Went to my 16w mw appt, and all went well - heard Pickle's heartbeat, and it was very good and strong :) BP is crazy low, which was a teeny surprise - 90 over 50, which is very low even for me!

PoppyS34 · 21/02/2012 16:11

ham and cheese pancakes are on the menu tonight, followed by lemon and sugar pancakes - pancake overload :o

I got my maternity jeans from Ebay £8.64 for a pair from Dorothy Perkins, they are brilliant - spot on and such a bargain my parther offered to buy them for me. win win!

Fingers crossed for tomorrow Vanimal, I hope they can offer some good advice. Brew

So, so SO bored with work today. I just want it to be Friday and the weekend already, so shattered and have to travel hours tomorrow night for funeral on Thursday :(

Someone pass the pancakes... :)

therumoursaretrue · 21/02/2012 16:22

Welcome Vanimal

I can't wait for pancakes this evening, we will be having a sweet and a savoury course too Poppy
Cheese, egg and mushrooms for me, followed by lemon and sugar pancakes!

I am on the edge of running away and hiding in a hotel for a few days, I am exhausted, over-emotional and ready for a break at the moment. Have to start telling people this week, family and a few friends know already but I am dreading telling my best friend. Her baby was stillborn and I know that no matter how gentle I am with the news it will really hurt her. There is nothing she would love more than another baby and I know she will be supportive of me but I have seen the pain she goes through with every baby announcement and I am worried this will be too close for comfort for her. I feel so so guilty, I know that's silly but I do.

0FrillyKnickers0 · 21/02/2012 16:44

To those of you on Facebook, did you/have you/will you announce this pregnancy on FB?

PoppyS34 · 21/02/2012 16:48

oh no therumoursaretrue that's awful for your poor friend, good luck, I think you're right though. It's going to be tough no matter how gentle you are.

Frilly I'm on FB, but not very much, but we've banned everyone from mentioning it on there, but there are people we still haven't told because we want to do it face to face and I don't want t hem finding out via FB.

I don't know if that's unreasonable of me? Confused

therumoursaretrue · 21/02/2012 16:54

Frilly I am a facebook addict, but will definitely not be mentioning it on FB for the reason mentioned above, and also just because it's not really my style! Might put scan pictures on with limited access (only a few people) so that family in Australia can see.

panpipe · 21/02/2012 17:13

Hi all; I'm tentatively peeking my head around the August door! Here's me:

panpipe (26) DC1 due 7/8/12

I've been lurking between here and the MC threads for the past few months. I had a MMC last year so have been nervous about tempting fate and joining in a due date month! 16w now though and have seen a very lively bean and heard a heartbeat for the second time so am beginning to relax a bit, though still very nervous!

rumours good luck when you tell your friend; it's never easy. We got to the telling people stage very recently and on the day DH was planning to tell his best friend he found out that said friend's wife had just had another MC. We delayed telling him for a couple of days but couldn't not talk to him at all as we wanted to send our sympathies. I'm not sure I've got any good advice for you but hope it's as easy a conversation as it can get.

FrillyKnickers I'm on Facebook and am so far planning not to make the big announcement. I'd prefer to tell people in person and with this kind of news you tend to get a whole load of people who you haven't spoken to in years suddenly come out of the woodwork! I've also got the whole nervousness going on where I can't help but think if anything should go wrong I'd rather the world didn't know!

Wow I've blabbed on! I'm not normally this bad... Hope you're all enjoying your pancakes Grin

Vinolover · 21/02/2012 18:01

Welcome to all the newbies :) Good luck for your appointment tomorrow Vanimal.

I've been looking forward to having pancakes for ages now and when it came down to it I just didn't fancy them Confused. It didn't help that I had picked up lime juice instead of lemon juice! Hey ho.

Im not sure why your tummy gets hairy Frilly but it has done so in all of my pregnancies. I have really dark hair anyway and I think it just makes it worse!

I posted my 12 week scan picture on FB (My profile pic) because I just want everyone to know Grin. I can understand why some prefer to keep it to themselves though.

0FrillyKnickers0 · 21/02/2012 19:30

Panpipe and Therumour you should join our FB group!

Thanks for your replies re FB and telling people. I know I will be excited when we get the scan pictures, but I have some friends who are having trouble conceiving so I think I am erring on the side of not putting it up. Who knows though!!

0FrillyKnickers0 · 21/02/2012 19:37

Saying all that and FB...I am gently mentioning it. Some people are aware (all the important people know) so it feels ok if others on FB find out gently...Little comments here and there!
