Certainly is going quickly quacks - only 17+5 to go for me Looking back now 17 weeks seemed to come round so quickly, i hope these next 17 weeks are just as quick!

Not wishing my pregnancy away or anything - just cannot wait to see our baby

madgirl · 08/03/2004 14:04

quacks i would love another boy. i love him so so so so much!and boy, does he love his mummy
do you think the bits are obvious? dh and i weren't really looking but we certainly didn't see any bits. littlerach glad to hear all ok

lazyeye · 08/03/2004 14:04

2 boys here Quacks. I never believed it when everybody told me, but boys are very very loving. Boistrous yes and you can put away the dollys - though youngest loves Fizz. But immensley loving and cuddly - both of mine. Good luck.

SpringChicken · 08/03/2004 14:07

Glad your scan was OK Littlerach As soon as we arrived for ours i was bursting for the loo so decided to go as it was bound to be ages before we were called in - every time had been at least half hour wait - this time, as soon as i got back from the loo they called me in. Felt like a right plank when she said are you sure you've drunk plenty of water today, as your bladder is completely empty

DER - Just my luck

Quackers · 08/03/2004 14:40

LOL Jems!!! I hate filling my bladder as when I gotta go, I gotta go!!
Looks like there are some lovely little boys out there then! I've just had some bad experiences and I was starting to think they were all like that!! I would love a boy for when they are grown up they look after their Mum's!!!! Me me me!!!!

bossykate · 08/03/2004 14:47

the leaflet from our ultra sound dept says you don't need to go with a full bladder.

SpringChicken · 08/03/2004 15:24

Mine say that too BK but got the impression after my last visit that this didn't mean completely emptied out
DP was sitting sniggering in the corner cos he told me not to go - Typical.

I know everyone says it but i honestly do not mind whether we have a boy or girl - i think sometimes i just can't see myself with a boy but then other things make me think the same about a girl. I just cannot wait to know if it's a he or a she

madgirl · 08/03/2004 15:37

bk are you st georges?

Quackers · 08/03/2004 15:38

I was surprised when they said they wanted a full bladder for my 20 week scan! The hospital I had DD at didn't need it.
I will be scanned again at 28, 32 and 36 weeks and they said no need for a full bladder then though thank God!

SpringChicken · 08/03/2004 16:03

I did think i was going to wet myself by the end of it anyway - baby was being bad a kept moving everytime the sonographer was trying to find the 4 chambers of the heart - she had done everything else but everytime she nearly got a clear shot the baby moved. Bless

Will you definitely have all of those scans Quacks or will it be a case of if everything is OK at the first they wont bother again?

Quackers · 08/03/2004 16:45

Yes I'll be having them all. I only expected them to check at say 32 weeks but they compare growth between each scan apparantly. It will be weird seeing bubba so late. Not felt alot if anything today, try and wake him/her up later witha brew!

bossykate · 08/03/2004 16:54

st thomas's, madgirl. that's for the scan, i'm planning a home birth - fingers crossed.

tomkitty · 08/03/2004 19:49

My bladder must be huge because they sometimes even tell me to go empty it a little bit, and I don't feel like I am about to burst either.

My 20 wk scan is Thursday at C&W. DH doesn't want to know the sex, and I have agreed to that ... but I will be looking hard to see if I can see a boy bit.

Nice to hear that you had such a good scan Q. Good luck littlerach.

littlerach · 09/03/2004 08:27

Sorry for quick post yesterday, one of those hectic days!!
Such a relief that all is well with baby, we were in the room for 40 mins, as it wouldn't move the right way. Her head is right down by my bladder, hence my frequent loo trips!! Saw heart, brain ventricles, all organs, bless, she had a full bladder too!!!!! And she waved and crossed her legs!! DD was so excited, and insisted on holding my hand all the way through. She asked where the baby's elbow was (!!?) and her eyes!!! So the radiographer showed her.
DH was sure it would be a boy, so we had thought of boys names!! Never mind. At DD's scan they told us they thought it was a girl. This time they said there was no visible willy so that led them to think it is a girl. DH found this vague, obviously they cannot be sure, but apparently this is the standard speech for this hospital. We'll see soon enough though!!
Now am getting excited about it all!! Half way there!!!!

SpringChicken · 09/03/2004 17:22

Afternoon All, just back in the office after a hectic day of meetings in London.
Had midwife appointment this morning that really pissed me off - firstly my midwife wasn't there, once again - secondly the stand in midwife was a right miserable old bag

There was a student midwife with her who was trying to find the babys heartbeat but couldn't find it - i wasn't too worried, just thought it was because she was a student - main midwife comes over and starts poking me about huffing and puffing and not hearing any heartbeat - whilst all this was going on there was no re-assurance that everything was OK, just left me laying there wondering what the hell was going on.

Eventually found the heartbeat, said it was because baby is moving lots (Which i can now feel ).
When sitting going through my notes she then turns round and says "oh, i forgot to measure you - maybe we'll do it next time"! I'm so glad i was rushing to get to meetings or i would've lamped her one

Anyway, baby is fine, she can hear clear heartbeat she can now feel that head is just under right boob and feet are down by left hip

Hope everyone else has had a better day than me - off hope now for big mug of cocoa - See you tomorrow

bossykate · 09/03/2004 17:29

that is great news, springchicken and littlerach

Quackers · 10/03/2004 12:09

Jems, that's really frustrating!! I'm glad they found the heartbeat for you eventually!!!!!

I had my appointment too yesterday. Lovely loud heartbeat and 160 BPM! Not surprised the way she pumelled my poor bump about!

Funny last night though, had a huge B/H and my boobs pured with colostrom all over my new jammies!!! Brings back memeories of getting 'the squirts' first thing in the morning when B/Feeding! Ah the joys!

Quackers · 10/03/2004 12:10

Opps poured not pured!

SpringChicken · 10/03/2004 12:38

No squirting colostrom for me thank goodness. Getting lots and lots of kicks now - have even figured out how to get the baby to move if i want a reassuring nudge.
Just need to find a way to stop it kicking when it gets to much for me

Has anyone got any ideas on roughly what length the baby is now - i have 2 Miriam Stoppard books and whilst checking this morning one said that at 22 weeks the baby is approx 18.5 cm and the other said the baby should be approx. 31cm. I think somone needs to have words with Miriam

Quackers · 10/03/2004 14:06

Hi Jems, Miriam is an old bag! I have 2 of her books and she's talks rot! Sorry Miriam!

I was told it's about 10 inches (24 cm), that's head to bum, not head to foot!!! That's from the BBC website and P&B. Great to get lots of kicks isn't it! I have that trick too, just give the poor thing a little nudge and hey presto - a kick!

Quackers · 12/03/2004 11:11

Morning, anyone there??

I saw the baby last night!! Was in the bath and there was a visible kick protruding out of my tummy! I tickled it and it kicked again, I did this 3 times then baby got fed up I think!

How is everyone? I feel huge and like my walking is affected already, anyone else feel like that!

M2T · 12/03/2004 11:16

Quacks - At 20wks the baby is 10inches head to FOOT!
Half the size it will be at birth. If it were head to bum then it would be about 16inches in total, my goodness, I should have a bigger bump!!

Sorry about that..... unfortunately I've seen a 20wk foetus in Glasgow Uni's Anatomy museum.

SpringChicken · 12/03/2004 11:21

WOW Quacks - that is fantastic I made myself go cross eyed last night looking out for a kick!
Didn't see one though

How is everyone doing?
I was OK until last night - something major has gone wrong with DP's car and i haven't got the feintest idea how we can afford for it to be fixed!

We've still got to buy all the nursery furniture yet, cot, drawers, changer etc so how we are going to find this money now on top of getting DP's car fixed i do not know

M2T · 12/03/2004 12:00

SC - You don't really HAVE to buy a changer. And the baby doesn't really need that much furniture at first, other than a moses basket/cradle. I have always just changed ds on a changing mat. They only cost about £10. So don't be fretting about things like that!! It can wait...... honest it can.

Quackers · 12/03/2004 12:02

M2T, got the info from P and B and BBC health. It said crown to rump is 10 inches at 20 weeks, that means bum does it then I presume! I;ve seen so many contradictory sizes though from so many sources. I know it's bloody big when it comes out - well feels that way anyway!!

Jems, oh I know the money thing is such a big deal. I know we'll struggle to get by when I finish work in 2 weeks. We couldn't afford to buy all the stuff you need first time. We had to use our credit cards and transferred to a 0% card to pay off the balance at that low rate. You'll see baby move soon!!!
