Could be the same as me Jems, also remember that with the first one the movements are not as definate until 22 weeks on ave. I tell you, when she starts kicking you will really know about it!Don't worry though, I'm sure all is fine. How's the heartburn?

Quackers · 18/02/2004 16:49

Oh yes, I have had a week without anything. I was a bit worried other day, so got out my doppler, it is a handy tool to have but v expensive!

Helsbels · 18/02/2004 16:50

I always think getting out your doppler sounds a bit dodgy!!!

chickpea · 18/02/2004 16:55

I agree with you Bells, Quack's handy tool, get your doppler out - don't they censor this site?

ClearWater · 18/02/2004 17:02

Hi ladies, sorry to butt in.
SC, BK, just wanted to say, on the subject of movement, I was really worried with ds2 cos I didn't feel any movement till about 21 weeks, but it was cos the placenta was 'anterior'. This means it's at the front of your tummy behind your belly button and acts like a cushion against the baby's movements.
I read about it, thought 'Ah', had a look at the little slip they gave me to put in my notes after my 19 week scan, and it said 'anterior' on there.
HTH

SpringChicken · 18/02/2004 17:07

Thanks ClearWater - will hopefully find out anything like that tomorrow at my 20 week scan!

I'm soooooooo excited it's unreal

It could very well be the same as you Helsbels - as i said, not worrying as such just sometimes think to myself "Oh, haven't felt anything for a while" then sit like a plonker waiting for my little bundle to flitter again

Hope i can sleep tonight - for some reason i am absolutely fine and confident all the time but when it gets to the day before a mdwife visit or the day before a scan i get all worried incase something has gone wrong! ! Could be counting sheep tonight

bossykate · 18/02/2004 18:09

thank you, ladies. it's really coming home to me how much less secure i feel with this pg. it doesn't take much to make me anxious - i was so confident and optimistic with my first.

thanks for the reassurance

tomkitty · 18/02/2004 18:16

Chickpea, how awful that you've been through 2 late miscarriages. This baby sounds very strong, so I hope that means your troubled times are over (until she hits 13!). I will hold off on the pattern, but thank you anyway. After I posted last night I ordered the top and the trousers. I reckon if they don't fit, I will just return them.

I got my first maternity clothes - some cheap and cheerful pin strip trousers at Hennes and wore them to work on Monday. They are huge in the belly, but oh so comfortable compared to my regular clothes.

I am 17 + 3 and I haven't felt a kick yet. This is my first, so I hear it might be a while before I do. Clearwater, my doctor said the same thing. He said I would appreciate that placement later.

SpringChicken · 19/02/2004 16:05

Afternoon All,

Well just back from hospital where i had anomoly scan and everything is absolutely fine

Were in the room for ages as baby kept moving all over the place - could see little arms and legs lashing out - felt a bit glad i couldn't feel every little movement when i realised he or she was moving so much

Size is spot on for dates - 2 arms, 2 legs, 2 hands, 2 feet, 5 fingers on each hand and 5 toes on each foot. could see heart beat, big and strong, kidneys absolutely everything - even gave us a little wave at one point
Was the most amazing thing i have ever seen in my life - picture isn't great but don't feel too dishearted as we were in the room for about 25 minutes and got to see lots of our little bruiser Bit sad that was the last time we are going to see him or her until arrival into big bad world but i'm sure i'll cope.

Just can't wipe the big cheesy grin off my face now - Can u tell

bossykate · 19/02/2004 16:17

springchicken, that sounds wonderful! congratulations

sweetkitty · 19/02/2004 17:04

so happy for you springchicken, I can't wait for mine but it's on 5th April which is ages away .

madgirl · 19/02/2004 17:33

very good news sc, have a lovely time remembering it!

littlerach · 20/02/2004 08:17

How lovely, mine should be in a couple of weeks, probably around DD's bday.
Am sure that I am feeling movements now, especially in the evening, also if I need the loo, as my bladder seems to push my womb up and out a bit. I was told that my womb tips backwards, so I know that this is why I felt later movements last time round.
DH was quite shocked the other evening as my belly looked much bigger all of a sudden, it is becoming obvious now!!
Anyone else due their scans soon?

madgirl · 20/02/2004 08:26

i'm next friday- i'm 20 weeks today oh my god half way through already!! starting to get a bit nervous now. ds (3 next week) suddenly seems very very grown up! i also feel movement now, but not much, like ds. i'm convinced this is a boy again, it's all so similar to last time.

Helsbels · 20/02/2004 08:44

Glad everything went ok Jems - wait till you can feel every move!!! I'm in next Thursday. BK, earlier in the thread, Quacks and myself were saying that we are not a s confident this time round. Spoke to my MW and she said it is the same for most 2nd or more time mums - you just know more of the things that can go wrong unless of course you had a hard time with the first successful conception. She also said that we don't have as much time to pamper and relax ourselves and so anxiety is more common HTH, everything will be fine {{}}

Quackers · 20/02/2004 09:20

Great news Jems REally pleased for you!!!!!!!!!!!

Helsbles, hope you;re feeling alittl emore confident. It's getting better for me but just feel so small some days and then others I feel enourmous, strange isn't it! Had some good movements though yesterday, so hoping for more today!!
My scan is 2 weeks today!!!!!!
I've an awful time at work though. Will probs do a thread somewhere else but hopefully it will all be over in about 4 weeks here, 6 at the most. Hope the stress hasn't disturbed babay!

madgirl · 20/02/2004 09:24

start a thread quackers

M2T · 20/02/2004 09:25

Great news SC! Can't believe how far on your are! Halfway already.

I bought 2 packs of pampers newborn nappies yesterday. They are on special offer in Tesco at the moment and you get 54 for £6!

Actually, since looking at them I don't think I'll buy anymore coz they're SOOOO small. The baby will probably be too big for them after 2 wks.... still a good deal though.

Helsbels · 20/02/2004 09:30

M2T, our next door neighbour has just jad a little boy and wow is he small - you forget how tiny they are!!! I looked in my diary and ds1 was in newborn for ages so buy them now while they are cheap - I'll go and get some too! Yes Quackers, I feel a bit better now I can feel some movements but still not as confident as first time round. Stress can affect unborn babies but I don't think it has a lasting effect. I lost one of my closest friends to suicide when 5 m with ds 1 and I think you sort of live in a cocoon whilst pg, things don't seem to have the same effect as normal. You do get stressed and upset and obviously more emotional but I really think you are protected and so is your baby.

M2T · 20/02/2004 09:30

Quacks.... sorry you're having a bad time at work. But like you say.... not long to go.

SpringChicken · 20/02/2004 10:28

hanks everyone - sorry to hear some of you are still having a rough time of it lately

I was talking to DP last night and i know i mentioned it earlier in this thread about this only being the beginning - it just seems so unfair that we spend our whole pregnancies worrying whether the baby has all of it's bits and pieces, then have to go through the birth, then spend the next 9 months worrying ourselves silly about cot death, then start the whole new worry of baby getting older - it really does never end does it - Can understand why some women find it so hard with all this worry around

Anyway, on a lighter note - scan obviously disrupted baby yesterday - hasn't stopped moved now - it was so cute seeing him/her curl up into a ball and lashing their little arms and legs about. Was saying to DP that it would be great if you could actually get a video of everything you see whilst in there - would be a great thing to look over and keep forever.

Glad everyone's scans are coming round soon - can't believe we are all nearly half way there - from what i've heard, we've done the most drawn out bit - aparently the last 20 weeks flies by!

M2T · 20/02/2004 10:49

SC - I must be a bigger worrier than normal coz I STILL go check if ds is breathing and he's going to be 3 in June! I don't think that worry ever goes unfortunately. I would say that the middle part of the pregnancy flies coz you normally feel great, but the last 6 wks can feel like a lifetime! But then you're so close to the birth that things don't seem so distant by then.

SpringChicken · 20/02/2004 10:59

Going to buy our buggy tomorrow so that's somethign else i can get all excited about! Also treating myself to some proper maternity clothes, as only have 1 pait of trousers that fit now

What toher high street places are there that have a maternity range apart from Next, DP and Mothercare?

littlerach · 20/02/2004 11:10

H & M does brill stuff, you can check their websites for nearest branch. Cheap and trendy, probably not best quality. Their trousers don't have that awful pouch in them!! Have you tried your local NCT for Nearly new Sales? Cannot recommend them enough!!
My SIL lives in L.A and is due in May. She sent us a video of her scan that she had bought off the hospital. Amazing!
I have been more worried this time round, it is reassuring to know I am not the only one.

SpringChicken · 20/02/2004 11:22

Always try to avoid Hennes as it reminds me of a jumble sale - not the clothes but the way the stor is laid out - but as i am desperate will give it a go!

Dragging my mum round with me so at least i wont have to cope on my own and i can bore her with the does my bum look big in this routine.

Jsut to give you all a laugh - i'm usually a size 12 IRL but being organised back in January thought i would buy a new bikini in bigger size for my holiday - bought little shorts in 14 and vest top in 16 as i i'm quite big on top. Tried it on last night and it is soooooooo small, top rides up over my bum, my ever growing thighs look enormous and my thighs and bum just sort of merge into one. Glad it's only for a week and DP's the only person i actually know who's going to see me like it
