SpringChicken · 20/02/2004 11:25

Ooops, top rides up over my bump i should say!

Helsbels · 20/02/2004 11:28

M2T - I'm so glad you posted that - me and DH go in every night to check on ds and make sure he is breathing - he is 3 in Sept. I actually moved him a bit last night 'cos I couldn't hear him!! Poor little sod - he probably thinks 'why are you disturbing me, mummy?'and then I get cross when he wakes me up!! SC I've got my trusty h&m trousers on today - they are v comfy and were v cheap. I'm 5'10 and large to start with so choices are limited but h&m seems to be ok. Mamas and papas do a range of 10/14 clothes and so do Pumpkin Patch no ggod for me but you slender young things should be ok!!!

Quackers · 20/02/2004 11:53

I'm glad M2T and Helsbels both do that!! We do it too and DD is 4 in August. I just adore her asleep and going in cuddling her and tucking her in!!! Jems, it's wonderful being a mummy. I took a long time to get used to it as it was such a huge change but when I did get used to it, I just wouldn't swap it!!
Will start a thread in other subjects as soon as today!

M2T · 20/02/2004 12:11

Quacks - You're so right. Being a parent is the best thing EVER! But with my PND it took me a while to realise just how wonderful it could be, I was too busy dwelling on all the things I couldn't do anymore and resenting how much time was spent looking after the baby.
Let's hope this time is better. It was and still is the most amazing thing in the world.

SpringChicken · 20/02/2004 12:22

It is not worrying me as such but i am very aware of PND and the diffeent varying degrees of it!
Is it something everyone gets at some point (in different degrees) or it just some people?

Helsbels · 20/02/2004 12:39

Most people get the baby blues. PND is very different and thankfully not so common. I think most mothers get fed up and down days as it is such a huge change,you can not even start to imagine how much your life changes. I can not imagine how much another will change my life. In some ways, SC you are lucky being so young as you have not established so many hard and fast routines as us older mothers. I had a really flamboyant, extravagant and selfish lifestyle that I had been used to for 15 plus years, 4 foreign holidays a year, most nights out , beauticians when I felt like it, sunbeds after work etc - to suddenly go to not having time to take a pee was a huge, huge shock. Don't be surprised if, even though this is all you want, you resent it a little, that is natural. Don't ever feel guilty about wishing it was 'all back like before', I think everyone feels that from time to time too. The thing is that you don't know if you will get depression or not. The best medicine against it is to be prepared and try to keep positive, make the most of the time you have now. Lots of things can make trouble for you, a difficult birth for example, and there is nothing you can do. Don't even think about it for now, just keep being positive and keep talking to us on here. I am sure that you and your little one will be fine {{{{}}}}}

SpringChicken · 20/02/2004 12:53

Thanks HB, that is really reassuring.
DP and i have always had nice holidays because for our age we both get paid reasobaly well but what with buying a house in 2002 we have had to cut right back so i s'pose it may help us be a bit more prepared.
We know it's not going to be easy but we do have lots of people around us who will help out - will just have to wait and see how everything goes really.

Helsbels · 20/02/2004 12:59

You'll be ok

Quackers · 20/02/2004 13:35

Jems, M2T is right, I spent time dwelling on what I had lost and didn't put into perspective what I had gained!
The reason I got PND, was because I had no support network at all. We were on our own in London, no friends, no family. My DH had to work very long hours and I just couldn't cope. I had it about 6 months and then suddenly it just left me and I was a completely different person. I feel bad that I couldn't totally enjoy the early months but when I look at video I see that really I had it all!!!!! You'll be fine, you say you have lots of support!!!!

sweetkitty · 20/02/2004 14:33

sc - I went maternity shopping not that long ago and I didn't like anything in Hennes, I was so disappointed. Wasn't too impressed with Blooming Marvellous either. I got most things in Next and a few cheapy tops from DP in a bigger size. The jeans in Next were good as well, went for under bump ones couldn't face that big elastic front bit. Let everything hang out on holiday be proud of your bump!

Helsbels · 20/02/2004 15:12

Jems - just read your post on the movement thread - you referred to her as him! Why? Is there something I've missed or was it just a slip?

SpringChicken · 20/02/2004 15:22

No slip - just don't know waht to call the baby really.

Don't like IT or BABY so usually say SHE but then i feel bad incase IT is a BOY - Arrrgggggg, what a pain - times like this when i just wish i knew (but i don't want to really)

Helsbels · 20/02/2004 15:57

good - thought we were wrong for a second then!! If I were you, I'd start buying a few pink bits (joke) Have a good weekend

SpringChicken · 20/02/2004 16:14

Going by your track record HB i think i should

You have a good weekend too.

tomkitty · 20/02/2004 18:28

I am wearing my Hennes pinstripe trousers today, which I love. Waist is so big I tuck it in with a bulldog clip. Chickpea, the Isabella Oliver top and trousers arrived. Thanks for recommending them - they're great! I hang out of the top a bit, or rather would but for the industrial strength sports bra I wear these days.

That's all the mat wear I have so far.

My 20 wk scan isn't until 11/3. I can't see it topping the superb 14 wk scan I had. Baby was hiccupping. His whole body would rebound with every hiccup, he would crash backwards into my uterus, then collapse, get up, wave, kick, hiccup again and start the routine again. He looked just like a cartoon character. It was something I will never forget.

I haven't felt any kicks yet but I am having BH about 6-7 times a day.

SpringChicken · 23/02/2004 10:42

Hiya everyone, Well i went on my shopping trip and i must say you were all right. Hennes was brilliant Got everything from there in the end.
Went to Next who said they only do their Mat range in the catalogue (Rubbish as I have seen with my own eyes in Watford store), tried Pumpkim patch which was crap, debenhams awful, mothercare hideous - in the end bought 2 skirts, a shirt, a smart balck top, casual pink top and 2 vests from Hennes - came to £80 in total which was a bonus - Now only need to get jeans and combats (ordering from Next catalogue)
Why is that pregnant ladies always get relgated to the corner - every single shop we went in was the same "Maternity is over in that corner" ARRRGGGGGGG. And also, no disrespect to older mums but why is it that everywhere bar Hennes thinks that because you are pregnant you have to be 40 odd. Enough whinning - was just getting on my nerves.

Bought the buggy too - couldn't wait to get evertyhing out once we got back to my mum's (which is where the buggy will be living).
Started decoarting nursery yesterday - well, i done all the edges then gave up (back was killing from shopping all day Sat) so i laid in the middle of the floor and DP decorated around me. Had to go downstairs after a while though as i was getting carried away, begging DP to let me put the curtains up "Just so i can see if they fit right )

What did everyone else get up to?

Quackers · 23/02/2004 11:41

Gald you had a good weekend shopping Jems!!!! I got some new stuff too from Next and I have had to send back and order in a smaller size!!! I knew not drinking alcohol had to have some advantage!!
We spent most of it in the garden making a water feature and went to nice park and fed the ducks which were amusingly in the 'spring mood' IYKWIM. I had to avert DD's eyes. Rampant little buggers!!!

Woops, they weren't THAT rampant!

bossykate · 23/02/2004 11:57

ordered a load of stuff from next, which turned up on saturday. nearly cried when the jeans i ordered were just - wrong. had to wear tracksuit bottoms (AGAIN - i am beginning to loathe them) like waynetta at posh daisy & tom in the king's road... will have another look in the next catalogue for jeans and then maybe investigate the seraphine ones someone mentioned on mn in the last day or so...

ps - will i ever stop feeling sick?

SpringChicken · 23/02/2004 12:01

Sounds great Quacks - cannot wait to start doing all of those lovely family things - stroll in the park, walks in the woods, feeding ducks - As DP says, all we need is a dog now to be one big happy family

Quick Question - was going to try and get round DP tonight but wanted you opinions first - do you think it's too early to decorate the nursery fully? i.e. put the border up, pictures, curtains, lapshade etc. It's all just sitting in the bags and sems like such a waste just sitting there

My mum bought a lovely picute from Mamas and Papas - it says "there's no place like home, except Grandma's" Only thing is my mum is Nan and Dp's mum is Gran so my mum said we'll have to carve her surname into the wood so everyone knows it her - Bless - My dad was deeply offended it didn't say "grandma's and granddad's"!

Have been sooooo moosy the last few days - i know it' just my hormones going all over the shop but i can see myself doing it and it get so annoyed - i bit my dad's head off on saturday, he'd only turned round and said "oh you came home in a good mood" as a joke and i then told him that it was himt hat put me in a bad mood constantly huffing and puffing - felt awful as he didn't even do anything, plus he and my mum had just spent £600 in mamas and papas on the baby Trouble is i'm one of these people who can't say sorry, i went upstairs adn got all upset, felt like such a bitch but still couldn't bring myself to apologise - AARRGGGGGGGGG - GO AWAY HORMONES

Quackers · 23/02/2004 12:15

Yes I love doing all the family stuff together!!

RE decorating nursery, I think we did it last tme around 25 weeks. Why not, as long as don't get bored of it!! How could you!! It's cute!

I have terrible mood swings too! get emotional and easily offended! It's hilarious when I realise the next day and have to go grovelling!!

BK, still feeling sick!!?? Poor you!!

SpringChicken · 23/02/2004 12:25

Still feeling sick BK - that must be awful

Out of interest, which jeans was it you ordered from next ? I have been having a look today and have found 3 pairs i quite fancy - trouble is, i only like the under bump ones!

Have had a real craving for a crisp sandwich today - going to walk to the shop soon and get the ingredients .
Will suggest to DP about decorating the nursery sooner rather than lately - will leave the cot and crib right til last minute as they are at my mums and MIL's house - Soooooo excited

sweetkitty · 23/02/2004 13:25

sc - I got a nice pair in Next the other week. They are the same as their standrad range only a bit bigger round the stomach and bum, they are under the bump as well. You would never know any different when you have a top over them. Now I just need a bump to show off. I got some nice black and grey trousers for work from Next as well but they were £40 each I need to be smart for work though

We're not decorating a nursery in this house as we will be moving a few months after babies born

littlerach · 23/02/2004 13:30

SC, know what you mean about mat clothews - when I was pregnant with DD I got so cross that all the trousers were tapered legs - no bootcut ones at all! It's a bit better now.
We went to see Bear in the Big Blue House - live!!- on Saturday. DD loved it, My friend and I spent most of it hy6sterically laughing, as it was quite tacky!
It's my bday on Wed so mum is coming to stay for a couple of days and we are shopping. DH has booked us a suprise weekend away in May for our anniversary, so I have to think about getting some decent clothes!!
A good friend of mine who has a DD same age as mine has offered to have her for a couple of hours each week as I get bigger, so I get a rest. Also, she will have DD when I go into labour, so this is like a practice time.
Feeling definite movements now - love it!!
