Planning to see how the next week goes before going back to nursery. DS is 2 years and 9 months. Can wee and poo in potty, knows when he's going and tells us, and is going an hour or two between wees so I think he's ready. One accident so far.

That's interesting about night times, thanks for all the replies. Last night was much better. Fingers crossed for tonight!
Another dry day at nursery then pooed in her pants as soon as she got home.

SheepSocks · 08/01/2020 20:11

Another dry day at nursery! Woohoo!

newhousestress · 09/01/2020 19:07

How old @SheepSocks and did you use a particular method? Well done anyway!

Totally dry day here too and showing some initiative getting himself on potty. Older DC we're back at school today which has really helped I think.

Mines doing really good with wees and has been dry the last couple days but he keeps doing his poos in his pants. Anyone having the same problem? Poos were the only previous success we had had, it's like he's gone backwards

loveautum · 09/01/2020 21:43

In the end put DD in nursery she did great with wees but did a poo in her pants. However last night and this morning took herself to the potty to poo even took her nappy down as well.

loveautum · 09/01/2020 21:50

@literallychristraeger the best thing to do from the book I'm following is if they are pooing in their pants it's because it's easier to hid and gives privacy. In the morning I've been taking DD's nappy off and having her bottom half naked then she's remembering to use the potty to poo. When I put her night nappy on she pulled it down last night to use the potty. I will do the same thing tomorrow as well and keep reinforcing the message. She goes back to nursery next week so hoping she will go straight to the potty xx

SheepSocks · 09/01/2020 23:43

@newhousestress DD is 2.4 months. Nursery were really pro active about potty training and took her every 20 mins. As much time in pants as possible.

At home we moved the potty to the living room, we gave DD a sweet every time she did a wee on the potty and that seemed to help.

I think we are a good way from cracking it but we are further into our journey now. This is our second attempt, we started just before she turned 2 and she was too confused!

Grandpoplar · 10/01/2020 10:15

Hi all, sounds like there’s been a lot of positive progress all round Smile

Unfortunately things aren’t going so well for us this week, and I’m considering putting a pause on things for now - we’re two weeks in and we’re still having more accidents than successes, and he’s fighting going on the potty. It’s not helped by the fact that he goes to two different childcare providers and has to wear pull ups at one setting.

The very frustrating thing is that I’m pretty sure he’s physically ready - his nappies are mostly dry after waking up from naps and often in the morning too. But emotionally there’s a real barrier.

I have to admit I’m struggling with it too - there’s been tears on my part! Anyway, I’m at home with him today and will see how it goes and make a call on it over the weekend.

SnugglySnerd · 10/01/2020 19:38

Sorry to hear you're struggling GrandPoplar Flowers maybe a break from the potty would be a good idea and try again in a few weeks perhaps.

We are also in the position of dd being dry but pooing in her pants. It's not that she is unwilling to do it in the potty it's more that she can't. She sits for ages and nothing happens and she says "I can't do anything". I think she just prefers doing it standing up Confused

notaregularmom · 10/01/2020 19:51

I'm following this page because I need to make another attempt at asking dd if she'd like to wear her big girl knickers again and give it a try. I've taken her to choose character knickers this week and choose a toilet seat as she doesn't like the potty. I'm armed with puppy pads too to put under her throw on the sofa to save my sofa cushion (totally unbeknownst to her of course 🤫)
Good luck guys other than sleep deprivation I think potty training is up there with hideousness.

literallychristraeger · 10/01/2020 22:03

Another day at nursery and another poo accident for us. He's totally dry otherwise so it's really frustrating. He's now with us for the next three days so I plan just to do this full on all weekend. Hopefully we can catch it in time and a bit of success might just spur him on. Can't really let him go naked as he is pooing mid afternoon in nursery so I need a solution that will work there and at at home

Hope everyone else is making progress

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 11/01/2020 08:14

Grandpoplar sorry to hear that- it seems having childcare on board is imperative to success- I think them demanding a pull up is pretty poor!

One accident at nursery yesterday, The issue we are actually having is LO saying she needs the potty when she doesn’t, oh and apparently
messing around with toilet paper at school. Hmm

LolaLollypop · 11/01/2020 12:33

Ok I'm going for it again! Have booked to have the sofa cleaned in 2 weeks so I thought now is the best time to attempt it! DD also not in nursery until Thursday so I can give it a really good crack.

She wore big girl knickers this morning but had two wee accidents. However she did sit on the potty and toilet (but didn't go). We then popped out so I put nappy pants on her again and she's now napping with them on. Will try knickers again later.

What do people do on these early days with regard to going out? Put her in knickers or nappy pants? Or just stay indoors?!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 11/01/2020 12:47

I’ve risked without nappy of any kind- just knickers - I have though not had to go somewhere time sensitive so we’ve waited until she’s done a wee at home before leaving

LolaLollypop · 11/01/2020 12:53

I think I just have to go for it now. The nursery said she's doing well there - asks to sit on the toilet when she needs to go. She seems more reluctant to do it at home!

LolaLollypop · 11/01/2020 15:22

Been up from a nap for 10mins and already wee'd in 2 pairs of knickers. I ask her if she wants to sit on the potty/toilet and she says no! Arghhhh

newhousestress · 11/01/2020 21:29

Any better today @Grandpoplar ?

NemophilistRebel · 11/01/2020 21:51

Still no luck even starting to try here

I suggest going nappy free and he just begs for nappy

SheepSocks · 11/01/2020 22:20

A good day here! A dry day and a poo on the potty.

SnugglySnerd · 12/01/2020 09:25

2 massive wees this morning, 3 hours apart. This girl has serious bladder control! She still can't pop on the potty though. I think we just have to keep trying/encouraging and be patient.

LolaLollypop · 12/01/2020 09:33

Also got 2 wees in the potty this morning!! The sticket chart seems to be working. She's due a poo any minute though so feeling a bit nervous about where this one will end up!! Confused

Grandpoplar · 12/01/2020 14:43

Thanks SnugglySnerd, newhousestress and onlyFoolsnMothers... we’ve actually had a positive few days, thank goodness Smile.

He seems to have a better understanding of what’s supposed to happen now - even when he is in a pull up he’s recognising when he’s wet and says ‘uh oh’ if he has an accident in one, so he now knows it’s not meant to be used like a nappy. He’s still not mastered pulling his own pants down and sitting on the potty by himself but he’s at least initiated a couple of visits.

We’ve also actually had more successes than accidents overall, so I’m feeling much more encouraged by things.

Hoping progress continues in the week ahead - and for all of us!!

SnugglySnerd · 12/01/2020 19:52

Yay! Pleased it's been going better Grandpoplar!

We are yet to land a poo in the potty she obviously needs to go, poor thing I sat her on the loo and read stories to her this afternoon but nothing.

literallychristraeger · 12/01/2020 20:32

That's great Grandpoplar

We've had a good day here too, two poos finally on the potty and three pees and not an accident all day.

newhousestress · 13/01/2020 15:36

That is great news. It sounds like most of our toddlers have made progress after a couple of weeks? DS hasn't had an accident since Wednesday (although he's at nursery today so I don't know) so it feels like we picked the right time.
