Planning to see how the next week goes before going back to nursery. DS is 2 years and 9 months. Can wee and poo in potty, knows when he's going and tells us, and is going an hour or two between wees so I think he's ready. One accident so far.

Same @SnugglySnerd we tried to do too much and get on with chores and didn't pay enough attention to his signs! Probably 3-4 wees in potty and a poo and 2 or 3 accidents.

Hi all, well done on successes. @YukoandHiro sorry to hear about the upset - hopefully your little one will be receptive to trying again in the coming weeks.

We’ve had a reasonable day at home today - my son doesn’t yet tell me he needs the potty but he’s getting better at signalling it in various ways (going quiet, stopping what he’s doing etc) which gives me fighting chance of getting him on the potty in time.

We had another stint out with a pull up on - we went to a party for a few hours and there was zero chance that he’d make it to the loo in all the excitement.

My son returns to childcare tomorrow - as he is still having fairly frequent accidents the childminder wants him to wear pull ups, or at least over pants - understandable as they go out and about, but felt slightly disappointed she wasn’t willing for him to try a day wearing pants to see how he got on. Anyway, I didn’t want to push it just now but if he makes progress then I’ll gently push to ditch the pull ups.

Here’s to a dry week ahead!!

Hi @YukoandHiro sorry to hear that it's certainly hard much harder than I expected and we struggled so much in the first few days. I'm not sure if you've read oh crap potty training I honestly can't recommend the book enough. It's quite a long read though, I only just managed to get through it the day before I started which was New Year's Day. I had a fun New Year's Eve staying in reading about potty training 🤣🤣🤣

DAY 5 We have moved to leggings but still indoors, DD had one accident a poo. She didn't know what to do so I managed to get her to the potty and some landed in the potty which was great though the rest in her leggings not bad though. The rest of the day no accidents but I really have to persuade her to use the potty and keep reminding her. She did this morning ask to go and took herself which was amazing so hopeful there. The other great thing was whilst I was running a bath she told daddy that she needed to poo, so I came downstairs and led her to the potty and she sat and did a poo so that was great. I think tomorrow I will venture out on a short trip, be great to finally leave the house leggings on and going commando for a few weeks 😅👍🏻

SnugglySnerd · 05/01/2020 20:06

Well this evening was eventful... dd did the biggest poo of her life. In her pants unfortunately. It took both dh and me to undress her, clean her up and deal with the "fallout". We were both is hysterics and the other dcs were just watching in silent astonishment Grin.

Nursery tomorrow. Hope it goes well there.

SheepSocks · 05/01/2020 20:25

We had a complete dry day. Hurrah! I put DD into a pull up whilst we ate out, and she asked to go for a wee and did 2 whilst we were out.

She did ask to go about 6 times whilst we were out and I did contemplate ordering my food to the toilet cubicle. I'm so proud of her though!

SnugglySnerd · 05/01/2020 21:01

Yay! Good work Sheepsocks! I'm pleased it was a success.
We still haven't been to anywhere except outdoors places and a very good friend's house who doesn't have any carpets Grin

literallychristraeger · 06/01/2020 14:17

Nursery have said they'll try the potty every half hour and are happy for him to come in pants. Feeing a bit better about him going back tomorrow

newhousestress · 06/01/2020 17:18

Two accidents at nursery today and lots of pees in the potty. I'll take that. Home with me now until Friday.

I collected dd from nursery wearing the same leggings she had on this morning! Amazing! They've been taking her lots but she also likes the novelty of the little toilets so she's been loads apparently. No poo though.

loveautum · 06/01/2020 19:19

Sounds like a good day all round 😚

I met a friend today at Costa with her girls and it was so great to get out. Took potty DD did a wee in the toilet on the potty and then went for a drive she fell asleep and was dry when we got back. She was supposed to be in nursery this week Mon -wed but will have one more day at home tomorrow and think she is ready for nursery on Wednesday which gives me a chance to clear up the house as I'm off this week 👍🏻

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 06/01/2020 20:45

Well done all.
A dry day here- tomorrow is back to nursery, fingers x.
Only thing is DD is saying poopoo to mean wee ....

Grandpoplar · 06/01/2020 21:30

Well done on today’s successes!

Our boy returned to the childminders today, wearing pull ups on my CM’s request. He was surprisingly cooperative when it came to weeing on the toilet there so it’s an encouraging start (he hasn’t been keen to use it there before).

Tomorrow he returns to pre-school, they’re happy for him to go in pants rather than pull ups. Following advice I’ve read here, I’ve packed 6 sets of clothes and spare shoes. Fingers crossed... 🤞

SheepSocks · 06/01/2020 22:02

DD was dry at nursery today, the staff said they can see a considerable improvement in her training. She asking you go instead of just going when they ask. The gruelling weekend has paid off.

I just need to keep on with it at home, and the nursery will do there bit too.

itakephotos · 07/01/2020 15:01

Urgh 2 poo accidents at nursery this morning....😫 I guess it's difficult for them when there used to going at home

Grandpoplar · 07/01/2020 17:00

Today my my boy’s first day back at pre-school. Only one successful toilet visit at the end of the day, the rest were all accidents (6 wees and 1 poo). It didn’t surprise me but I felt bad for the pre-school teacher having to clean him up all day. They’re happy for him to continue attending wearing pants not pull ups, so they are being supportive.

On a positive note, which makes me feel he is ready but it’s just taking time to slot into place: he’s been waking up with a dry pull up and used the potty last thing at night and first thing.

literallychristraeger · 07/01/2020 17:23

First day back at nursery for us today and my boy has been dry all day! Was fully expecting accidents so can't quite believe it.

YukoandHiro · 07/01/2020 17:43

Thanks everyone - there were two things going on with us. Think she wasn't quite ready, and neither was I. I hadn't done enough prep to prepare myself for how intense it would be those first few days. Hoping to have another stab in February

Grandpoplar · 07/01/2020 17:56

Well done to your boy, @literallychristraeger!

@YukoandHiro yes...I think this process is almost as much of a learning curve for us parents as it is for our children. I totally underestimated how much of a process it is. Hope next month goes more positively for you both!

newhousestress · 07/01/2020 18:51

That's amazing @literallychristraeger !

Backward step here, peed three times in the floor and made no effort to ask or look for the potty. His cousins were visiting and it was a noisy muddled up day. Finally doing pees and poos just now in the potty so not a completely wet day.

literallychristraeger · 07/01/2020 19:25

Thanks. I was fully expecting a pile of washing home to be honest.

I think it's going to be one of those tasks where they have good days and bad days for no rhyme or reason

SnugglySnerd · 07/01/2020 20:04

Another dry day at nursery. Yay! No poo again though. I expect she's holding it in.

Has anyone else's little one been waking up a lot in the night since potty training? Last night was awful. She woke up quite early saying she had weed (she had). Fresh pull up and she went back to sleep but she woke up at least twice more before we gave up and put her in our bed then she was very fidgety all night. I wonder if she's overtired from coping with a new thing or uncomfortable from no poos. Or it might just be a coincidence!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 07/01/2020 20:35

Well done all- a dry nursery day here, we’ve had no accidents since Saturday night. I probably need to venture out a bit more this weekend now we’re all a bit more confident.

snuggly we had 1 night of night terrors the other night from 2.30am-5am. Was hellish. Can be due to a change in their routine, but it was only once.

SheepSocks · 07/01/2020 21:42

Another dry day at nursery!

DD asked to get out of bed to go for a wee whilst we were doing bedtime stories. I thought she was trying to prolong bedtime but surprised me by doing an enormous wee. I feel terrible for doubting her now!

@SnugglySnerd the first we introduced potty train we had disturbed nights. Lots of shouting "mummy, wee wee!"

loveautum · 07/01/2020 21:54

We had 1 poo accident this morning in her PJ's but otherwise a great day and a further poo on the potty later on. She was a little surprised about pooing on the potty and it only happened that way as I told her it's time to use the potty. I don't think she has joined the dots still with needing to go for a poo and using the potty as she goes most mornings for a poo in her nappy and it's very wet also. I still haven't managed to get her up before she wakes as it's anywhere between 5:30am and 6:30am to allow more practice 🤪

I was thinking of sending her to nursery for a half day tomorrow, but am in two minds. She's doing so well but on the other hand I don't want to rock the boat and send her in to be only told she's had lot's of accidents as they may not prompt her enough. I'm thinking maybe to leave it now till Monday and give her more time at home. On the plus side we were out for 4 hours and no accidents 😊

newhousestress · 08/01/2020 10:11

That's interesting about night time, DS had a huge regression over the holidays that I thought was related to change of routine/excitement so did a sleeping training thing with him the last few nights and he slept through last night finally. Didn't think it was related to toilet training but I suppose any change or developmental leap can cause an upset in sleep patterns!
