Planning to see how the next week goes before going back to nursery. DS is 2 years and 9 months. Can wee and poo in potty, knows when he's going and tells us, and is going an hour or two between wees so I think he's ready. One accident so far.

Thank you all.

Yes, compared to day 1 we have made progress - the dots are connecting up but still some way off before being dry in the day.

Yet his pull up in the morning is usually dry.

My boy has always done things in a funny order e.g crawling before sitting, using quite complicated words before he could even say mummy.

The CM said that he’d had successes today (wearing pull ups) but mostly because he went when they took him - rather than him asking. But I’m still counting that as successes! I somehow feel like she is expecting a lot from him...

loveautum · 14/01/2020 21:04

That's great @Grandpoplar. We are also doing great no accidents at nursery other than that 1 poo last week, but in fairness she is preferring to go for poos at home in the morning or evening, I think due performance anxiety at nursery 😂 I'm sure there would be more poo accidents if she went during the day.

They are great at promoting her and she goes as well when she sees the other children going into the bathroom. Also on Saturday she asked for the potty whilst in the car seat, so my hubby pulled over we got the potty out and her of her car seat and she did a wee so that was a great success 👍🏻

Grandpoplar · 15/01/2020 13:50

@loveautum we’ve not yet tried the potty on the move - great that your girl asked to go!

Yesterday was an unexpected success: a 100% accident free day! I could not believe it! Pre-school took him frequently thoughout the day, and he cooperated. Then when he got home he managed a poo and a wee. He woke up this morning with a dry nappy and did a full wee.

I’m not celebrating yet as I know it’s very hit and miss but I was totally made up. I think brazen bribery worked in my favour here: when I picked him up from pre-school, my son reminded me of my promise to get him a monster truck toy Grin

I’m just hoping that soon he’ll start asking to go of his own accord.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 15/01/2020 15:17

well done Grandpoplar that's fantastic!

To all- re: venturing outside the house, are you/will take the potty with you, or will you let your LOs use public toilets- hold them over an adult toilet? I really dont want to invest in another (portable) potty, I can continue to carry her actual potty. Not sure whats the norm?

LolaLollypop · 15/01/2020 16:08

I've been taking the normal potty everywhere I go. It's light and can go in a shopping bag or underneath the pram.

DD is doing really well, she's had a couple of wee accidents in the last few days but 90% of the wees are going in the potty. I have to prompt her to sit on it but she's quite happy to.

She hasn't got the hang of doing a poo in the potty yet. We've had a few soiled knickers this week (thankfully she's only going once a day!)

She's back at nursery tomorrow so I'm hoping the routine there will teach her a bit more.

newhousestress · 15/01/2020 17:17

Great news @Grandpoplar and @LolaLollypop !

Fairly dry here too, I think we're 90% there ask well.

I take the potty out in a bag but I also have a folding toilet seat that looks like a frog but we've haven't used it yet. It is much more compact so as soon as he's happy using it I won't take the potty out as much.

loveautum · 15/01/2020 18:32

@OnlyFoolsnMothers I just carry the normal potty out too the carrier bag it's really no problem and like you said I didn't want to invest in something else. I do have a special seat for the toilets at home and step, but to be honest we haven't really had much practice on the big toilet yet, but many mums say they venture to the toilet eventually. Happy to carry the potty around until then, I'm just relieved that I haven't forgotten it, let's hope that continues. She also uses it at nursery too 😆

literallychristraeger · 15/01/2020 19:32

Everyone's doing so well. We are on day four of no accidents at all, so next battle is getting him to ask or take himself rather than being prompted.

Re outside, we have a little folding toilet seat which just sits on top of the adult one. I got it in boots and it's great as it folds down nice and small and goes in his bag

LolaLollypop · 15/01/2020 22:52

Just had quite a difficult evening with my LO. She seems to be getting confused with wearing a nappy in bed and weeing in it. Three times she called out after I put her down because she had done a wee in the nappy and wanted to be changed. I explained that the nappy was ok to wee in at night but she didn't like it.

Any advice on what to do here? She's definitely not ready to be dry overnight so needs the nappy on.

newhousestress · 16/01/2020 09:50

@LolaLollypop I don't know the answer but my guess would be that it's part the process of her understanding her bladder and the different feelings of bladder being full and empty and nappy being dry or wet. I mean I know they aren't wet wet but they probably feel different. If you'd changed her anyway would she have settled?

I'm starting today with my very stubborn 3 year old DD. Tried before Christmas point blank refused to use the potty so we have got a seat and step now. I'm sure she's playing me 😂 I have four consecutive days off work so I'm determined to make a good start

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/01/2020 10:15

LolaLollypop my LO has started to say potty once shes being put in bed (most of the time shes trying to delay bed time), but i do let her pull down her pullup and try the potty- Im worried that if not Im sending mixed messages. In the morning when shes still wearing her pull up shes mostly asking to use the loo. Im saying pull up is for when you go toilet in your sleep.

mummytooneprincess good luck! It really helped being at home when we started- the oh crap method, where the first few days they are naked really helped- could look for cues they needed the loo and they dont like the feeling of free peeing so understood the need for a potty better

mummytooneprincess · 16/01/2020 19:35

Thank you onlyfoolsnmothers. Day one wasn't great but not a complete disaster I don't think...........DD is happy to sit on the toilet and can independently get herself on and off and doesn't like the feeling of being wet. No actual wees on the toilet though. She has been sitting on it every 20ish minutes. I need to persevere and maybe try and get her to sit for longer each time. She is literally on, a few seconds and off again!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/01/2020 19:41

Yeh good idea - I left mine on with an iPad for 20mins one day to get a wee.

Having a diff problem at nursery- she’s asking to go to the toilet all the time and enjoys showing off her bum....Hmm

mummytooneprincess · 16/01/2020 20:28

Ha ha ha ha! Honestly what are they like! Thanks for your advice - I will get the amazon fire out tomorrow!!! 🤞🏻

blckurt · 17/01/2020 09:48

Hi all, sorry I've been quiet in here lately!

We've been getting on quite well, many dry days although still some accidents. No toilet poo yet!

My LO woke up at 5am this morning asking to go to the toilet. Should I take anything from this? (He's in nappies for bed).

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 17/01/2020 13:45

My LO woke up at 5am this morning asking to go to the toilet. Should I take anything from this? yes I think that's progress that they associate the feeling of needing to pee with using the toilet.

So slight dilemma, very important drs appointment for my LO in central London Monday morning, peak rush hour. Im trying v hard not to send mixed messages about a pull up only being for naps, but would i be awful to shove one on, I cant be faffing waiting for her to pee before we catch our train, and rushing through Waterloo station to find a toilet. Will this set us back?

LolaLollypop · 17/01/2020 13:48

@onlyfoolsandmothers what about putting your DD in potty training pants? They look like knickers but are more absorbable than normal knickers. But not as fail-safe as pull-ups! Might be the right compromise to make her feel like she's still in knickers but will absorb a bit if there's any accidents?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 17/01/2020 15:45

thats an awesome idea, thank you Lola!

SnugglySnerd · 18/01/2020 17:25

Sorry been MIA but I just had to pop in to say DD JUST DID A POO IN THE POTTY!!!! 3 weeks after we started potty training. She got weed so quickly bit we've had so many poo accidents, poo in the middle of the night etc. I am so proud of her! She was really pleased with herself too. Hopefully now she's figured put what to do she'll get the hang of it quickly.

Grandpoplar · 18/01/2020 19:05

Woo that’s great @SnugglySnerd!

Some progress here: 100% dry day on Thursday. Mixed day yesterday when he was at home with me (too distracted by TV and games to pay attention to his toilet needs!). I then took him in pull ups to my mum’s (as her house is fully carpeted) and was mostly successful at catching his wees and poos in the potty at the right time. Still not asking to go yet though.

SnugglySnerd · 18/01/2020 19:32

That sounds like good progress to me Grandpoplar especially as you were thinking of stopping for a while last week!

LolaLollypop · 18/01/2020 20:19

Mixed outcomes for me too although I am persevering as I think it will eventually click with DD. She loves wearing knickers and is happy to do her wees on the potty. However she doesn't prompt herself to go and sit down, I still have to ask her and plonk her on myself. When she's left alone for too long she has an accident.
Still no poos in the potty - just a lot of dirty knickers!!
We'll get there... Grin

newhousestress · 20/01/2020 11:25

Hope everyone is doing ok. I think DS is pretty much there which is exciting. No accidents for ages other than when not pulling his pants down completely. He's using the toilet quite a bit more now too. I think I'll scale down my full kit for a slightly smaller one! Bit still have the potty in the car.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 20/01/2020 18:23

Well done OP sounds like your boys got it!

I caved and put a pull up on DD for today’s trip into London- didn’t have time to purchase the potty training pants annoyingly- there was a comment “where’s my knickers” but she didn’t kick up a fuss and we did still use the loo when out. Hoping we don’t take a giant step back tomorrow.
