Spot: I love Lewes, we once went boating there on an idyllic summer afternoon. And you aren't too far from Amberley Working Museum which is ace and has a teeny railway (staffed entirely by volunteers with beards and/or false teeth).

Veggiemummy · 23/07/2010 19:31

Man I'm shattered. I've been packing all afternoon, we are doing the full deal with tent etc so have to pack e-v-e-r-y-thing! No wonder our spare room is taken up with junk, half of it is camping crap! Def something to be said for glamping. Though I do love our tent I'm quite looking forward to the trip now.

Yes lady my friend is still here. She came out to the wine bar last night with my Den Haag friends. Unfortunately for her we talked a lot of kid stuff. She has been in Amsterdam all day today and is on her way back now. She flies out tomorrow.

I have thought about our families gender line and I think we even ourselves out. My dad was one of 7 boys & one girl. My mum had 2 sisters and her mum also 2 sister, & maternal aunts had 3 girls between them. I have 2 brothers & a sister. DHs mum is one of 8 girls not sure about his dad I know he had at least one brother. My brother has 4 girls & one boy and I have the 2 boys, DH has 2 brothers & a sister and so far only his sister has kids, 2 boys. So I think we kind pan our 50/50

OP posts:
JamInMyWellies · 23/07/2010 20:48

Gender wise. Mum has 2 brothers, Dad has 1 sister. I am one of 4 girls. My elder sister has a girl My younger sister has 2 girls 1 boy. I obviously have 2 boys. But just to throw it into the mix my gran on my mums side was one of 13! with a fairly even mix of girls and boys.

Boys knackered today been to a farm with a friend. I can safely say neither of them are going to be farmers or vets. They both spent the majority of the time with their hands over their ears at the animal noises. Most of the farming land round here is arable so they are not used to all the noise apart form the fucking cockeral. LadyT feel your pain. DH reckons a well aimed catapult would sort the fecker out.

Veggie your evening sounds lovely. Have a fabbo time camping and of course watching the tour.

Rubes holy cow 3 more sleeps.

Beans how are you doing?

Indith approach the sleeping like you approach your epilating with a steely like determination.

Avo that is impressive sensible eating. I am rubbish at that just ordered a chinese. MSG thirst will no doubt attack me in the middle of the night.

SPot forgot to say yesterday on your behalf at your DH am v glad he apologised. Otherwise I fear there would have been some sort of December mums gang up on him

SYbs hope oyur bottom is feeling better.

Trace please dont be so hard on yourself you are doing a bloody marvellous job.

DH went for a lunch today which started at midday and ended at 5 he is trollied and stinks of booze. Hence our chinese for dinner. He is so going to regret it in the morning whe he has 2 hours or rugby with the boys tom morn.

Oh Lady I meant to say last page when you were complaining about the damned cockerel and you said 'I hate him' I read a little too fast and thought you said 'I ate him'.

Just popping on quickly to wish Rubes all the best for Monday. I'll be thinking of you.

Rubena · 24/07/2010 06:28

Thanks Nolda

I'm at my wits end. %am again. He's not waking up grumpy either but by 6-630 (now) he's obviously knackered and clearly hasn't had enough sleep. Won't eat breaky and only wants milk. It started with his nappy rash waking him as I think as he was getting up sore, but he's fine now, just his body clock is out I think.
I'm planning on putting him down again before swimming and then after that making him stay awake all day and riding it out so he's completely knackered at bedtime.
Don't know what else to do as I'm so tired, I can't sleep earlier at night and in the morning I'm getting woken so early. Tears all round this morning.

Rubena · 24/07/2010 06:40

that was 5am.....
Oh and dh would get up but he is anyway, as he's working mornings this weekend. I'll be trying to get sleep when he naps but I really struggle as not even Gaviscon works with heartburn, and I can't seem to lay in any position to get comfortable...

Rubena · 24/07/2010 06:43

At least when baby is out, I can sleep when she does as heartburn will be gone and dh home for 2 weeks. Trying to stay positive, but I'm still stumped about how to get him to stay asleep until at least 6am. Perhaps less napping in the day I think?

Right that's 3

SummerLightning · 24/07/2010 07:15

Does sound like he's just out of sync now rubes. Only 2 more sleeps now hang in there. Tell your dh one of his jobs on leave is to get ds back into his proper pattern! Can you put a stairgate up on the door to his room so you can ignore him for a bit longer?

Rubena · 24/07/2010 07:23

Could do Summer, but he has that up sometimes for daytime naps if he's reluctant to go to sleep but when he wakes (his naps are usually about an hour and a half) he screams from the gate so makes no difference.
I'm just thinking he's having too much sleep in the day. But its a viscous cycle as he's falling asleep in the day because he's not getting enough at night. I don't want to push his bedtime back at all at night either. Last time he slept later (well properly later) was when my db's kids wore him out in the day and he went to bed at 7-730 and slept until about 8-830!

Veggiemummy · 24/07/2010 07:34

Rubs I got way more sleep after DS2 was born and had loads more energy. Sorry about the 5 am wake up but no breaku and wanting milk is usually teeth with DS2, he wants more calcium to grow his teeth & eating hurts esp first thing. It could be that they are just grumbling away rather than over the top painful.

Right I'm off we leave for France this morning car is packed just breaky & coffees to sort them we're off.

All the best for Monday Pubie, hope the pines look ok. Will be thinking of you.

Take care all see you in a week.

Avocadoes · 24/07/2010 08:17

Have a lovely time Vegmiester. Enjoy the Tour.

Pubes - sorry about 5am. I would say reduce the naps and put the stairgate up and just point blank refuse to go to him before 6am. He will eventually give up. My only hesitation about doing that is that I wouldn't do it when the baby has just arrived as he may feel abandoned and associate it with the baby. At least your DH will be around very soon.

Rubena · 24/07/2010 10:37

Well he was so obviously knackered that I put him back in bed at 0730 and held the door shut - which he tried to open but then gave up and hopped in bed.I napped myself on the couch till 0900 when I had my alarm set for his swimming. I banged around a bit so he would wake and he did about 10 mins later so we've just got back from swimming and both feel a bit better now I must say.

Anyway, yes I would ordinarily turn to doing that Avo, but like you said I am worried about how he will feel early next week with a new baby but between now and then I may give it a go. Along with that I am going to see if he can last today on just that early nap this morning, and then see how long he sleeps tomorrow, and will put the gate up as well.

Have a lovely time Vag - pines will be sorted, and thanks for thinking of me!

Beans33 · 24/07/2010 19:20

Hey Rubes - hope DS sleeps a bit longer tomorrow morning.

I've had a lovely day today. DH has taken DD1 to his parents while he goes to a wedding, so I'm at home with DD2. She slept last night from 6.30 and I went to bed at 9. I meant to set my alarm to do a feed at 11, but totally forgot and we both slept til she cried at 2am. Then I had to wake her at 7 for a feed. Best night ever. Would love a repeat, but know it's unlikely! About to have a curry, then watch New Moon, then bed. Although DD2 squealing in bed - got a nasty feeling it's a burp. It usually is!!

I am SO looking forward to bedtime tonight, though - even with only one! But wow it's easier than with 2! Makes me long for October when DD1 goes to nursery!! Although I'm missing her little noisiness - she's learnt to come into our bedroom when DH gets her up and say "Morning" in this little singsong voice. Sweetest thing!

xx

zoejeanne · 24/07/2010 21:47

Hi, just flying in to wish Rubes a very happy 'birth'day -I hope it goes swimmingly and wait to hear about your new girl. xx

Rubena · 24/07/2010 22:28

Aww thanks Zoe and Beans. Hope you have a repeat night Beans. Well I had another meltdown when dh said he would be home at 230-ish as I was counting down till my 'relief' arrived when he phoned to say his colleague taking over from him was stuck in traffic, for an HOUR and a HALF!! I understand these things happen, but it NEVER works in reverse as dh is way too conscientious to let things like that happen ie checks traffic, leaves earlier. Not the other guys fault really as had his own reasons, and a really bad day, but just wish sometimes dh would LET people cover for him at times - never!
Anyway, got over that and went out to do a few things. Instructed dh to keep ds awake as long as possible and at 630 he was just hanging so I put him to bed at 645 - not a peep, so we will see tomorrow morning.....
I will attempt to get some sleep now
The big swig of OJ probably not a good idea for the heartburn though. 2 more sleeps

EffiePerine · 25/07/2010 07:51

How was your night, rubes? Last day today . What time are you in tomorrow?

PinguRocks · 25/07/2010 10:59

Just a quickie from me to say hope all goes well for rubes and sl. I'm very excited about news of your new arrivals!
lady I am one of 4 girls. My mum is one of 8 with 5 being girls and of those cousins there are way more girls than boys. My dad is one of 2 and his sister has one of each. I obviously have a DD and my little sister is preggers with her first which is also apparently a DD. I think there's definitely a pattern there and for what it's worth I only see myself with girls!
Looking forward to catching up with effie and spot on Thursday. Let me know the meet up plan - I'm not too far away from there so should be fine for whenever. Can anyone else be tempted to join us?

spotofcheerfulness · 25/07/2010 12:28

Really looking forward to it too, Pingu. I think the plan was to arrive at the market around 11ish but I've not checked times yet.

Wanted to add my bestest wishes to Rubs too as I'm off to my swanky hotel after lunch until tomorrow arvo. It feels very very weird, but boy am I looking forward to some time to read and lie down. T is doing some epic teething at the mo so I'm ready for the rest.

Rubs, will be thinking of you, I hope everything goes really well and how wonderful to know that very soon you'll be holding your new DD. .

Beans hope you had another good night.

EasilyConfusedIndith · 25/07/2010 14:38

Wow Beans what a great night! Want to swap her for my dd?

Good luck Rubs!

I think I hear ds pottering about. Dh has taken dd out as ds was still asleep, he only naps every couple of weeks these days but he has just had 2.5 hours .

LadyThompson · 25/07/2010 15:12

Hello, am at Mum's for a few days now and was at my sister's yesterday for nephew's 18th bbq, which was really nice. DP has gone home now. He was a bit trolleyed last night and I found him a bit obnoxious, as people can be when they have had a few, though I know he didn't mean it. I have got my feet up with a coffee now whilst DD naps. Rubes, I do hope you had a better night. I was up before 5 again, I thought of you. Listen, tons of luck and love for tomorrow - S0 exciting - am thinking your MIL may be there now and you might be getting some rest. Text me your address if you get a minute, I've lost it. Can't wait to hear about it!

sybilfaulty · 25/07/2010 18:57

Huge amounts of love and luck to you for tomorrow Pubes. I'll be thinking of you. This time tomorrow you will be a mum of 2 and, I hope, much more comfortable. How wonderful.

Hello everyone else, how are you doing? Very quiet weekend here, but I am about to start couch to 5K tomorrow so no doubt will be hobbling considerably.

Proper catch up tomorrow, promise

SummerLightning · 25/07/2010 19:57

Hello everyone,
Lots of luck to our Pubie for tomorrow!! Cannot wait to hear the update, see piccies, etc!

Pretty sure you are going to beat me to it as not much happening here.
Just waiting now as we are all moved in and sort of settled (boxes still everywhere but not too bad, etc), and we have internet as well hurrah! Cannot believe it all worked out in the end.

beans may you have many more nights like that and glad things are going well! Hope you get the hang of the bath situation soon in a way that suits you. I am taking tips, though am lucky in that DH will probably be home for bathtime for a while after no 2 arrives. Also I am a lazy bugger anyway now and DS does not get a bath every night, just every other night

veggie hope you had fun at the tour - very jealous. I hardly got to watch any this year on account of having no TV after we moved house for a while. Boo.

Going back to the flip-flops discussion when upduffed - I have been wearing trainers mostly this summer or sandals, not flip flops. My feet do get quite hot though. I am always complaning about hot feet and for some reason DH finds it hilarious.

On the eating Veg front, I know I said DS was getting better but he doesn't eat veg unless it is very small non-noticable veg in a sauce or something. He did try mini corn on the cob the other day, but i think he thought they were tiny bananas. How cute. And he's better at trying stuff, he tried some carrot today, but spat it straight out pulling a face. He does eat lots of fruit though. Weird how they are all different. My friends DD loves cauliflower more than anything, what a weirdo.

Oh on the family/sex front mine and DH's family are fairly evenly distributed male/female so there's no telling I don't think!

Going back a bit kiwi I think St Albans sounds like a great plan for moving. I remember when we were looking to buy a flat in London almost everyone seemed to be moving out to St Albans so it must be v popular. Expensive too I would imagine as it has good transport links doesn't it, but obviously not as expensive as c london!! I seem to remember the trains run back really late as well instead of stopping at 11:30 or whenever. Not that that would ever bother me now, I am such a lightweight! A good compromise I reckon.

spot hope you and your DH are getting on a bit better now. Are you feeling a bit better about the physical side of things yet?? I remember you said you had gone off any physical contact since being clackered??

Oh I want this baby to come now!! I am bored. Having said that I am feeling much more comfortable - less heartburn and less tired so I shouldn't complain. Maybe the less heartburn means that the baby has dropped and is therefore more ready to go? [hopeful]. It has certainly been punching a lot around the cervix area, but though uncomfortable not sure that is a sign of anything happening really!

traceface · 25/07/2010 20:25

hey ladies.
Pubes I'm so excited for you and will be thinking of you tomorrow
summer glad to hear you're feeling settled and ready! Great that you're getting a bit moe comfortable.
Is daisy still on her hols?
ladyt I think ther's something in your theory about trends in families. Of the people I know, most seem to have 2 boys or 2 girls, rather than 1 of each, but those with 3 seem to have 2 and 1, IYKWIM?! Hope your mum is waiting on you and forcing you to put your feet up
veggie how was it at the tour? Hope you're having a fab time under canvas.
We're having a nightmare time with Lucy. She's got so defiant and ignorant and seems to expect the world to revolve around her. We had a day out to Bridlington yesterday which started well then ended up with us not letting her have the promised ice-cream because she was refusing to do as she was told, so then she cried for ages. We almost gave up and went home but decided to drive a bit further and went to Flamborough then stopped at a pub for tea on the way back, and actually had a lovely time in the end. But today she has been hard work and although she went to bed at 7, she's been coming out of room, asking for stuff, being told 'no', then freaking out because she didn't get her own way then being sent back to bed, then coming back out...she even kicked her door because she was so cross, so I told her she can't have a bedtime story tomorrow, which has caused yet more tears and shouting. She's now in her room, still wailing. I feel mean but she has to know that we're not going to back down or give in to all her ever increasing demands. I'm not feeling too optimistic about the next 5 weeks of school holiday!
P has been a bit of a grump too, but I'm wondering if it's teeth. She's being mega-clingy too and just wants me to carry her, then she wriggles to get down, so I put her down, then she puts her hands up and cries to be picked up again! When she's happy she's super-cute though
Hey I did an exciting and brave new thing...I've joined a singing group! It's a group of about 20 who sing pop songs (like Take That, Eternal, Beatles, Mamas and Papas) with loads of harmonies and it's ace! I went for the first time last week and really enjoyed it, so I've got a new social activity and some potential new friends too I'm pleased with myself for not being a chicken! On the other hand I cancelled my hair cut on Wednesday because it felt too overwhelming to go out
Anyway I've waffled on for ages. If anyone is still suffering from insomnia you could just read through my posts and you'll soon be nodding!
