Thanks Summer yeah, I thought I was suppose to do that also. I was just concerned as I read that if you don't use both every feed, the supply will slow down, but I guess it will pick up when she starts needing to have more each feed and I start having her go the other side as well?

You still hanging around? How many days over are you now?

Veggiemummy · 08/08/2010 11:13

Sorry Pubs I could find my itouch this morning? Is the lump still there. The foremilk/hindmilk thing isn't rubbish as such they just rebranded it. The problem was by calling it that mums thought the foremilk was just watery nothing and the holy Grail was the hindmilk. In actual fact the foremilk, that watery stuff is were all the good stuff is. It hydrating, full of vits, minerals, the most bioavailable iron & protein. The 'hindmilk' has all the lipids & omegas, still very important but also very filling. If it all came through together DD would fill up and not get enough of the foodstuff in the 'foremilk'. In summer when it's warmer you body will produce even more of the intial milk because babies need more hydrating. Now this is why it's important not to express if you can. You & DD are programming your boobs to give her exactly what she needs at each feed. If you express you confuse your boobs and they will not produce what is needed. Now this is the hard bit. You need to trust that she will work it out. Those times when she is feeding feeding feeding seamingly on nothing she is actually stimulating your boobs. If you feed her the expressed milk you'll be breaking the pattern. I know it sounds all a bit lentil weaving but it's actually quite scientific. So as far as feeding off both or one, let her work it out. If she feeds of one and completely deflates it, offer her the other she may just have a little more or she might empty it. DS1 used to just have one boob each feed DS2 had both either way your body works out what to put in each feed. Don't think in amounts of milk that doesn't work for BF. One persons 10 mins of feeding can produce the same hunger satisfaction as anotgers 30 mins. Now the other thing is your latch sometimes if the latch isn't quite right it can cause probs. I'm sure it's fine but just in case. Make sure you hold her comfortable around the neck, don't hold her head. Hold her so she is straight across your body and bring her nose to your nipple so just the tip of her nose is near your nipple then let her open her mouth to take a mouthful of boob. However tempting it is don't move her across and put her on the nipple let her do it, she will do it well all by herself. It sounds daft but even just having her too far across by a cm or 2 can effect the feeding & cause pain, it's not a deal breaker, it'll still work but it will be more effective if you let her latch herself. My description is a bit crap so if I've confused you have a look at some of the websites I think Kellymom recommends that latch technique.

Thanks Vag - that makes sense yeah. Pretty smart these babies aren't they! I often forget that it's her that would know best - instinct and all that!
If it was a blockage, I think I have cleared it with that soak in the bath as the lump has gone and although it's a little tender, it feels a lot better. I Might try and get in the bath a bit more too. She does seem to want to feed constantly although at times she just latches on and sits there even when wide awake, and that gets annoying, like its a comfort thing. Not ideal. Anyway, thanks Vag Wink
Right, dh is still building a deck Hmm I assume paternity leave ended on Friday! Actually to be fair, I wanted him to get it done during the break between family visitors!

Avocadoes · 08/08/2010 13:12

We are at Heathrow. Virgin has lost out seat reservation. They have no sets of three seats left. We will be split up for whole flight. DH blames me, I blame Virgin but wish I could blame DH. God help me get through the next 12 hours...

Rubena · 08/08/2010 19:31

Avo, I hope it turned out ok if you are lurking over there when you arrive. \did you book the seats directly with the airline or through a travel agent or 3rd party. If it's not done directly, the seat number shown on travel docs that is given to you by the agent is just a request, not confirmed which messes a lot of people up. If it was direct, sorry it was messed up, and hopefully they helped you out on board Confused
Where will you be in the US? We might go back for a visit in Novemeber - however we will re-asses when we see how the 2 kiddies thing is going (we must be mad)

LadyThompson · 08/08/2010 20:19

Oh Avo, hope it turned out ok. We are waiting for room service as DD created merry hell in the restaurant and we had to leave. She did the same at lunch but we were able to go and eat on the terrace. I think her angelic days are finally behind us. A huge table of Japanese tourists were shaking their heads and tutting as we left so I said "Yes?" To them really angrily, which doesn't even make sense, but I was cross with them for gawping and tutting and making a bad situation worse. At least we left! They'd have had a darn sight more to tut about had we stayed. Rubes, hope the pain is better. I'd love to come and see you in the next few weeks, we'll work something out. Summer, my heartburn returned at 3am Grin

zoejeanne · 08/08/2010 22:30

Congratulations Jolly ? very exciting news. And you hadn't even been offered the job on the interview day, I dread to think how much you celebrated when you did get the offer Wink I really hope you don?t suffer with the sickness again this time. Is it likely, as you?ve had it once? Don?t worry Avo, hopefully I?ll be one to be clackered next year, if I follow our plans and don?t succumb to broodiness first

Happy hols WG, Avo and Trace Trace I?ll text when we hear from Summer. And Grin at Lu, hysterical! A friend of mine was showing her DS her wedding photos and he asked where he was ? she explained it was before he was born and he replied ?but there wasn?t anything before I was born? Grin

I?m glad the scans went well, Jump and Katie, and only one in each of you (sorry about my confusion Jump Blush, but still, I learn something new everyday)

Rubes I?ve exchanged, or got credit notes, for new clothes with tags and no receipts. I?ve never had any questions asked, I guess it happens a lot with baby clothes

Grin at all those already learning the value of money!!

Summer just remember Kayz and the astonishing size of her DS2 that no one picked up on ? I don?t reckon they can tell anything without at least doing a thorough scan

Right, time for a huge gloat ? DD was an absolute ANGEL on the train in both directions. I couldn?t be more proud of her (in fact I was tempted to start asking people as we got off how good they thought she?d been so I could bask in her reflected glory Grin). I am a little ashamed that I had doubted her in the first place. So I still have 3 untouched sticker books and 2 untouched magazines ? she just babbled to herself and played with my jewellery. On today?s trip she chose to sit in the aisle and charmed everyone with offerings of yoghurt raisins, and they all politely took them and yummed appropriately. She did do a really stinky and sticky poo though, that was a challenge to sort in on the wobbly changing table on a wobbly train

Come on Summer, have some birthing vibes to help that baby get the message

Veggiemummy · 08/08/2010 22:43

Lady you should have said 'pearl harbour tut tut!'.

Avo sorry about the airline thing, I'm not sure how it could be perceived as your fault.

We had a nice night out tonight. We had an afternoon at the beach where a friend is doing massage so had a massage each while the boys played on the sand and then gave then dinner at the beach then came home chucked them in bed in time for the babysitter to arrive then just went out to a local cafe restaurant then to an outdoor bar. I'm really going to miss the summer it's so nice to ride out for a few drinks outdoors.

This child is on a growth spurt for sure! I ended up with her in the bed just continuously feeding which I've never been good at (somehow my knockers always seem to be at the wrong angle / height etc. But I woke up and she was still hanging on Hmm slight disaster at 2am when ds came barreling into our bedroom with full nappy and tears and we discovered we were completely out of his nappies Shock had to improvise with one of dd's micro nappies as an insert with one of his swim nappies Grin
it worked though and dh has done a pre work emergency dash to the shop for some.
Flying solo today as dh returns to work - eek, we shall see.
ds has just stuffed 5 satsuma pieces in his mouth like he's on some kind of reality tv challenge game show Hmm

Vaggie, sounds lovely over there.... Envy

Rubena · 09/08/2010 08:10

Oh and lady - been there done that.... glad you said something - too funny. my db was telling me when he was over that you just end up ignoring all those comments - I'm still not able to, but apparently it happs sooner or later to all parents. I'm still scarred from my night at the pub when we had chaos at the table with ds throwing stuff and the dog escaped and was found and returned by the waitress after begging for pork scratchings at the bar. Boy did we gets som looks from the table next door with the perfect family having story time while they waited for their meals. I wanted to vomit.

Beans33 · 09/08/2010 08:21

Hey all.

I've had such a busy weekend. DH has no sympathy at all for how tired I am and thinks I'm whinging!!! But catered for 10 at cricket on Sunday and had to shelter both the littles when the rain started, then we carried on til 6. DD1 didn't have a sleep and was desperate and hyper by the end of the day. DD2 was v well behaved. Dummies rock!

Then yesterday we drove out to Essex for DH's nephew's christening at 8am. Got back here at 8pm (I drove back - grrr) and DD1 was still up. Luckily DD2 fast asleep. Watched Sherlock Holmes. Don't know why, but should have gone to bed. Then did 10.30 feed and Pru slept til 5.30am!!! Marvellous. And back to sleep til I woke her at 7.45. Brilliant.

Veggie, I've got a question for you too... Pru hasn't done a poo since last Weds. She only really does them every 2-3 days, but this is a record. They're always runny and not hard or constipated ones, but I am a bit worried as it's been ages!!! What do you think?

Pubes - how are your bazongas this morning? Mine are leaking everywhere this baby. Literally sometimes get through 2 sets of pads in one night!!! Grimbo.

Lady - I confess, pre babies I was one of those people who was a tutter. But now I've got them - hell, they can scream the house down and I'd forgive the parents!!! Feel more for the parents than the others in restaurant!!

I think my sister and her husband are about to split up. V sad. He is a habitual alcoholic and she is at the end of her tether. This has been going on for years and she now has abrasions on her stomach lining and is sick with stress, which makes them worse, so she is physically ill. My parents want her to leave him and her children are pretty unhappy too. It's such a sad situation. I just feel totally helpless. She doesn't talk to me about it at all as feels that I'm too busy with DD2, but my other sister tells me all, which is a relief. Also, I'm 7 years younger than her, so I think she thinks I'm too young to hear, if you know what I mean. Still thinks I'm 15!

Anyway, we do need a new thread title...

Where's Summer today? Any news?

x

Rubena · 09/08/2010 08:36

Beans hi - you are truly wonder woman!
The bazonga's are much better today despite being tugged on all night Hmm glamourous this bf lark isn't it Grin
Gosh I didn't have that problem with ds (leakage) and I certainly don't now. In fact I've never used a breast pad in my life. I get a slight couple of drips from the other side when I'm feeding her but that's it, and it's only during let down. I've decided I must have really slow flow which I thought last time too. She will suck for ages and literally feed for 30-40 mins but still only just empty one side. I had a friend who not only had to wear pads, but had to stuff 2 muslins down her bra's when she slept at night Shock and it would squirt like a fountain from the other side when she was feeding. Practically drowned the baby at every feed.
Oh no ds already getting destructive. Time for shoes on and some outdoor action I think!

Beans33 · 09/08/2010 08:41

That's exactly what I'm like. If DD pulls off during feeding then I spray her face. It's terrible. I leaked through pads at the christening yesterday too. Grim. And it only takes 10 mins for DD to drain my boob and fill herself up entirely. It was the same with DD1. Extraordinary!

Beans33 · 09/08/2010 08:42

PS Think it's particularly extraordinary as I was so anti-breast feeding when I was preggers with DD1 ! I am talking about it now and can feel my boobs tingling as they fill. Left one ready to pop! Half an hour til next feed...

EffiePerine · 09/08/2010 08:47

Ten messages to go! We need a title. Feeling completely uninspired here.

Loved the last episode of Sherlock - if any of you meeja types know the writers, tell them from me to write FAST. And I expect something pretty spectacular for the post-Reichenbach moment.

No news from Summer...

Rubena · 09/08/2010 08:55

Oh Boy I remember my friend telling me stories like that Beans, and I sometimes felt jealous as I have the opposite problem but she said despite having endless supply and no problems expressing in seconds, (she could do 6oz in 10 mins!!! She also didn't want to go out much due to the hassle and the leakage etc which I could understand too. I was a bit anti BF with ds too and to be honest I am a bit with dd but probably no surprises to anyone there. I swear I'm missing one of the womanly chromosones or something Hmm

Right can someone visit me please? Beans I don't mind in the slightest if you spray milk everywhere. I have leather couches and floors are wood Grin

Hello Effie - I think Summer is having her nipples tweaked or perhaps no in labour Grin

Beans33 · 09/08/2010 08:57

I liked "Lightning Strikes..." But have to wait and see if any news from Summer yet!

SummerLightning · 09/08/2010 09:00

I'm still here! Sorry! I don't think this baby is going to come of it's own accord at all any more...

JamInMyWellies · 09/08/2010 09:08

It will Summer. Most babies are about a wk over their due date. So I predict you will go into labour tom eve.

Beans33 · 09/08/2010 10:34

here's a new thread
