Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
1stMrsF · 21/05/2010 21:14

Hi ladies. Hopefully some of you remember me from our antenatal thread. llareggrub just responded to a plaintive cry from me on 'Sleep' (thank you )and suggested I pop in and say hello.

Congratulations on surviving the first year with our little treasures. My twin girls are lovely - both trying to walk and trying to talk; only one sleeps though! It's a bit full on looking after two mobile small people and so my MN habit bit the dust quite early on. I will try and say hello when I am here though as advice from a mum going through the same stages is always best isn't it?

All the best to you all, maybe speak soon

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 21/05/2010 21:50

I remember you!! How lovely to hear about your girls .

dandy I'm so sorry, I should be sympathising but I adored your DD's letter. It's adorable. Believe me. I got past that stage into 'I hate you mum'. Now I'm blase about that too. I hope you and DH continue to find fun and happiness again.

blotted Yup, love the hair . Chopped all mine off after DD1 am tempted again.

febes "My Dad is the International Chairperson for something to do with Blackcurrents" Love the way that was casually thrown in - I would have boasting about that ages ago. And dandy A PERSONAL TRAINER? I'm with running on the mustachioed strongman in leotard

My dad's an architect who loves glass and steel and mental, radical designs, he designed a glass cube office that appeared to be floating.

running sorry the test was neg but The Wire and Wine is exactly what you need.

tum yayayayayayay btw!!

ses have a fabulous weekend!

pula Hope you are all ok and you have a sheep-dip set up for foot'n'mouth (no, seriously, hope you're all ok)

flip It's difficult, isn't it? Hope tomorrow is ok for you

spangle relax! Just look at your beautiful boy!!

Everyone I've missed, apologies xxxxxx

S walking like a trouper now - first shoes today = goosestepping around the room

pulapula · 21/05/2010 22:19

Hello grumpy and mrsf and everyone else.

grumpy- you really have a wonderful skill at making me (and probably everyone else) smile . I'm fine, been up to S about 5 times already this evening, but we could dose him up with calpol on the last visit so fingers crossed he'll settle now.

Dandy- my DD has been pushing boundaries for quite some time now, and i don't have any words of wisdom, sorry. I am getting so fed up of saying something, getting ignored, and saying "are you listening?" all the time. I usually resort to bribery and treats .

Just wanted to share something with you ladies. We don't often have the news on when the DCs are around (partly because they nag for cbeebies or else I don't want them to see anything disturbing) but the last few days DD has started listening to it in the car and has a bit of a "thing" about death ATM and picked up on the Bangkok stories and asking how people had died (i tried to explain it as simply as i could). Today she was listening to the story about the woman being charged with killing her 2 DCs. She was definitely listening, but didn't say anything but i was a bit worried about what she was thinking . Not sure how i'd have explained it if she had asked.

belgina · 21/05/2010 23:01

running @ the BFN, but because you can now enjoy your glas of vino

1stMrsF Glad to see you back. I've often been wondering how our ante-natal twin mum was doing (forgot your name). You might not know, but one of us is now expecting twins too. I'm sure she'd be very curious to know how life with twins is

dandy Your dd's letter made me smile too. You'll look back at it one day and smile too. I can't really remember my dcs doing too much boundary pushing, but I do remember having the odd stand-off with a toddler. All I know is that if you consistently stick to your guns, they quickly learn that no is no. My dh didn't and when he was home there were always lots of tantrums, I rarely had tantrums. I also find that not making too big a deal of no goodbyes etc... makes it less of an issue too. Mostly my 2 were usually too excited about going into school to see their friends that they forgot to say goodbye. I didn't mind, because I'd rather have them running in forgetting me, than clinging too my leg not wanting to go in Nowadays they do say goodbye. It's just a case of getting older and that bit more mature I think

grumpy Yay at the walking and I agree. Your posts always make me smile

talking C doesn't say a word yet. She's still just buggabugga buckabucka-ing. Though today she discovered dd1's long forgotten xmas present: a baby doll and she seemed to be repeating me when I said baby (babababa), but that could have been co-incidence . C loves that doll, but sadly dd1 doesn't want to share it despite not looking at it since xmas. I think dd1 and C are possibly having their very 1st sibling dispute going on. Hopefully dd1 will lose interest in the doll again soon.

pula I hope that calpol has helped S. The blind is more for me than C, lol. I struggle to go back to sleep if she wakes at 5, but she does go back to sleep. The blind definitely has made a differentce. (C's still in with us)

Right off to join DH now. I'm pretty sure I've forgotten some of you, so a big hi and sorry too you!

Tomorrow my mum, dad, aunty and uncle are coming over to visit for the day. Gosh, living in Kent really is nice

Tummum · 22/05/2010 09:04

Morning all, sorry for being absent this week.

Well, as you will have picked up from my FB status, I got a new job this week . It's the one I wanted, and means I don't have to move (although it's a bit of a trek, so we might once DH gets himself a new job.) Thanks for all your good wishes. I am soooooooo looking fwd to handing in my notice to Herr Flick (my boss) .

And as for walking and talking, there is absolutely no sign of that in this household. The best we get is 'Ah-Da' and "Da-Da' followed by a big grin. Oh, and climbing up the sofas / bookcases / coffee tables / stairs. You get the general idea. He's a monkey

Onto a NC cos I have been crap at that recently.

Dandy I did smile at DD1s note. I have a 'testing the boundaries' DD2, and it is a 'mare. I have to be on my guard the whole time to try and be consistent. At the moment, the biggest challenge is walking to school. DD1 doesn't want to walk with DD2. DD2 won't walk if she isn't walking with DD1. This results in a stand off with me walking off leaving them both screaming in the street. It's a lovely start to my one and only non-working day, NOT . Unfortunately DS looks like he will be equally stubborn.

Flip well done on getting through the past couple of weeks - I hope you have some time off planned

Febes afternoon delight . Oh, and loving your Dad's job. My Dad is an engineer [boring emoticon]

Blotted your hair cut looks fab. Hope all the businesses ventures are going well

Hope Fi and Moni (going back to my old habits!) are having a lovely break. We are off to Devon for a week an a couple of weeks time, and I can't wait.

Belgina so sorry that work isn't going so well. I don't know what to say, apart from stay strong and confident in your abilities, and remember that you are a fantastic and brilliant midwife. It must be really tough because you loved the working environment so much at your last place. I hope you have a lovely weekend meeting up with your relatives.

Llare go-girl-go with the running. Very impressive.

1stMrsF I have been wondering how you have been getting on. Nice to hear from you

Running at BFN, but yay for vino.

Pula I try to avoid the news because my DD1 is really really sensitive, but I suppose the sooner she gets used to the big-bad-world stuff the better . It's a really upsetting concept, and sometimes I wish we could run away to an island and hide and protect my DC from all of the crap this world has to offer . Wow, what a miserable post. Sorry !

Ses at posh evening away.

Grumpy at goose-stepping and cake shops and handing in notices

Erm, erm, I reckon I have forgotten someone, somewhere but I better post before it all gets lost.

I'm off to enjoy the lovely weather and sort the gardening out. Better go push get DH out of bed, lazer bugger

Yay! You came back, 1stMrsF!

Typing slow as feeding DS2 so one hand free. Am crippled after gym boot camp. Fell and twisted my ankle this morning and it huuuuurts. G amused me earlier. He stuffed a big slice of bara brith into my mouth and laughed and laughed.

running so sorry about the BFN.

Grumpy happy to test cakes for you?

Dandy DS1 continuously pushes boundaries. It is so wearing.

Will come back later once Ive hobbled upstairs with G.

momino · 22/05/2010 21:30

Hi everyone!

momino · 22/05/2010 21:41

Hello 1stMrsF, I remember you and good to hear from you.
Grumpy, could you make it a general bakery so I could contribute loaves of bread? I've been into bread-making for some months now and happily making sour-dough loaves (whilst ignoring the children -should really do it at 3am).
dandy, I also melted at dd's note.

reebee, would love to meet you here in York. June is better as 4th july is my birthday (i'm Verrrry American) so sure to be doing something special involving sea-side or picnics with the girls.

belg, hope you're ok at the job, thinking of you...

tumm, congrats on the new job, that's excellent news !

running sorry about the test results but as belg said, try to enjoy a glass of somethingl.

I'm afraid I can't NC now but vow to return to do so at a later time.

Having probs with the DH as well since I'm not remotely interestedin (ahem).... relations. we had a horrible convesation last night. I've been down (usual anxiety rubbish) and just can't flip a switch like it seems men can do. so can't be pn long tonight since I'm meant to be working, cleaning, cooking and spending time with DH. phew.

hol was lovely but glad to be home. have a fluffy dog as well who's been groomed at the kennels since we hadn't washed/trimmed him in (at least) 3 years . he looks very regal.

essenceofSES · 23/05/2010 20:46

What a gorgeous weekend! Hope you've all had good ones.

Hope saus and Fi's M and G have had great birthday weekends too

MrsF - how lovely to hear from you again! Great to hear that you and your girls are doing well.

Llare - hope your ankle is less painful now and you're mobile

Tummum - congrats on the job!

Blotted - hair looks GREAT!

Belgina - hope you're day with your family went really well

Momino - lol at "fluffy dog" George. Hope you manage to get DH to understand a bit more - it's not easy, is it....

Running - sorry for BFN. Hope the lovely chilled wine over the weekend was enjoyed.

Pula - how's the hand, foot and mouth?

Hello Dandy, Febes, Flip and anyone else I've missed!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 23/05/2010 20:49

Hello all! Gorgeous day here, went to friend's house for bbq. Lovely lovely. Just about to watch last Ashes to Ashes and penultimate Lost wot we recorded.

S says 'Aiya' as 'tis word of the day.

xxx

belgina · 23/05/2010 21:16

lol grumpy You've made me smile yet again. Aiya!

momi Fluffy dog! That's funny. Must be nice to give him cuddles at the moment. Glad you had nice hols though

tumm I hope your DH is OK. I saw your f/b status.

pula I hope the HFM isn't causing too much hassle (except for the staying at home thing of course)

My mum. dad, aunty and uncle came around yesterday. It was lovely to have them here + the weather was lovely for it too. We had a nice outdoor pub meal + a relaxing dinner in our back garden in the evening. My uncle did make me though. Considering we live in an absolutely gorgeous beautiful village he just didn't seem to appreciate the lovely suroundings at all. The midieval houses were "strange" and all of the houses were just difficult to heat and stuff and the only houses he approved off were the ugly post war concrete prefab monstrocities . Honestly, some people just cant appreciate beauty. Who cares that the old houses in the village are difficult to heat. He's not living there and they're actually very pretty to look at!

momino · 23/05/2010 22:12

yes, George does smell beautiful from his fruity shampoo. grumpy, come for a cuddle whenever you want.

belgina, as well at your uncle - soe beople just don't understand...

ses, glad you had a good weekend .

words: Harper picks up a toy mobile tel and says 'hello' very clearly (if very nasal). she still mainly lets out a hearty, 'Dahhhhh' most of the time.

she isn't walking either. not even trying to stand alone. I think she's so efficient at her crab crawling, she won't walk for at least a few weeks. i should be grateful for this but almost feel she's too fast at crawling and walking would slow her down. 'twould also keep her feet cleaner since she's still shoeless.

how is everyone today?

momino · 23/05/2010 22:14

belg, 'some people'... . am one-handed typing with magnum in t'other hand.

Tummum · 23/05/2010 23:16

Evening all, apologies for a memememe post. It's been an interesting Sunday. DH was at a wedding reception last night, got back then went straight out for a bike ride with our friend Laura. At 13.30 I got a call from Laura saying he'd come off the bike and passed out. So mad rush to get DC looked after, and go find DH. By the time I got there he was in ambulance. Anyway, after much messing about in A&E he has nasty broken collar bone (just about doesn't need an op to pin it), road rash everywhere and a clunked head, and maybe cracked ribs. I am so glad he was wearing a helmet (which is in shreds.) DD1 is very very very upset about it all, so I think she will need some hand holding for a while (not helped by my Dad saying DH would probably be ill for 6 weeks ! But I have to say I am bloody glad he is OK, but my God he is doing my head in already ! He's possibly the worst patient anywhere. He's biting my head of and winging and complaining. I know he's in a lot of pain (it'll be worse tomorrow) but I can see myself wanting to break his other collar bone by the time he's better . Sorry for the single minded post, just needed to off load.

OP posts:
momino · 24/05/2010 10:01

oh, tumm, how awful! glad he's ok but hope he's a good patient for you . hope your dd1 is ok too, she's prob so worried.

odd load here when you need it!

smokeybacon · 24/05/2010 10:32

Morning lovely ladies.

Have the time for a catch up this morning.

tum ouch for your DH. Think you should allow him some bad patient time for a bit, but not too long! And congrats on your new job too.

grumpy have the last Lost to watch tonight. Bloody hope its been worth sticking with it for 5 years!!!

pula hope S is getting better?

Happy birthday to all the babies I've missed in the last week or so. Hope everyone had lovely days. I find it difficult to keep track of dates! It is registering it is Monday today but I currently have no idea of what date it is, so apologies for being rubbish at birthday wishes. i've been steering clear of FB in the past few days so haven't clocked any reminders either.

saus dandyand momi hope the DH isshhoooees are resolving themselves. YOu are not alone. DH and I are also bickering loads. I blame the pregancy hormones but the poor man can't do anything right at the moment. I expect AIBU about everything though!

dandy there was a big aaaarrrrrr here at your DDs little note. Its funny what and when they come out with stuff. DS1 fell of his bike on Friday after school and felt a bit sorry for himself. He then proceeded to tell me that he loved me all the time and everyday and that he actually loved everyone at the moment too. I think he hit his head when he fell as he is never like this!

1stMrsF good to see you. Hope you manage to pop back a bit more!

Have to phone the hospital this afternoon for the CVS results so could everyone cross everything please? I am beginning to get a bit nervous about it now. My bump has grown massively. It is the size of my week 19 bump with R.

pulapula · 24/05/2010 13:01

Hello ladies,

I am at work (it's lunchtime of course!) but felt the need to check in.

Smoky good luck with the CVS results. Not wanting to you, but i remember being when 1stMrsF posted a photo of her bump towards the end of her pg and it was astonishing! Maybe it's still on her profile pics .

tumm- poor DH, but he needs to be a better patient if he wants to be looked after properly .

momino- welcome back. I hope to see you properly on Friday, but will have to see how the DSs are.

Luckily S seems to be on the mend- a few blisters and spots left, and eating a bit again, but we're hoping he'll be back to nursery by Weds. But DS1 has been really miserable, not eating, bursting into tears, not moving off the sofa, etc etc. Never seen him like this. Not many spots, but we're guessing he has a bad sore throat and mouth ulcers as he is constantly drooling like a big slobbery dog.

runningmonkey · 24/05/2010 13:11

Hi ladies,
Really quick from me - can anyone remember that great website that told you positions for turning baby around form breech. My friend is measuring huge for dates, baby is bum down and they said she would have to have a cs on Weds if they can't manually turn it... she is panicking as has v active toddler to look after too.

smokey fingers are crossed for you x

tum hope DH and you are ok today x

Hi everyone else!

momino · 24/05/2010 13:46

Sorry running, don't know. hopefully someone else will come along to post.

pula, what a tough time. hope the DS's are better soon (esp by Friday, selfish reasons to see you).

smokey, fingers crossed. hope all goes well.

runningmonkey · 24/05/2010 13:56

Thanks momi I've tried searching for it but no luck, off to google. Glad you had a good hol btw, sorry you are having issues with DH tho

flippinegg · 24/05/2010 14:02

running - www.spinningbabies.com/?

I'll namecheck properly later, DD1 is demanding that I fill the paddling pool!

runningmonkey · 24/05/2010 14:04

That's the one flip ta! I owe you cake/vino/other assorted vice of your own choosing

smokeybacon · 24/05/2010 19:06

CVS all normal! Big sigh of relief. Am now beginning to actually think that this is actually going to happen.

febes · 24/05/2010 19:10

Smokey What fantastic news!! 2 happy healthy beans .
