Oh poor Joe, have seen Dippy's email and now the last few posts, this is awful.

elkiedee · 04/05/2010 22:54

Eeek at some of the problems at hospital, hope the standard of care is improved since then - how can they treat a 3 year old like that?

elkiedee · 04/05/2010 22:55

Belated happy birthdays to all those whose birthdays I've missed, and I guess I'd better wish Sophie and Harriet happy birthdays for tomorrow if their mums drop by too!

CaptainDippy · 05/05/2010 09:46

Happy Birthday to Sophie & Harriet!!

Most recent update on Ellen / Joe situ:

Recieved 04.05.2010 @ 20:25pm:

"After much discussion, the doctors realised they had no hope and have agreed to drop the horrible treatment. They have left the drain in for now, but have booked a scan for tomorrow (today 05.05.2010) when we will find out more. They have said it is possible that there are pockets of fluid and this drain is only in one. If this is the case, then he may need a drain elsewhere. We just have to wait and see for now. Joe in himself has been good, he is watching Madagascar yet again and laughing lots. He is chatting and annoying me, so he is on form!"

I am glad Joe is feeling more himself, I just hope they can work out how to fix this once and for all soon. They've really been through it!

Thanks for keeping us updated Dippy - sounds awful!

I'm very happy to chip in for something for Ellen - I have a cheque here from you for £5 which I haven't paid in yet (sorry!). Shall I tear it up and you put £5 in for me?!

cazboldy · 05/05/2010 21:11

Hey all

Hope things get better for Joe (and POTC) soon

I joined weight watchers today!

Sexoncleggs · 05/05/2010 21:51

Hi all

Sorry for absence; have been away for a few days with my Mum

Poor poor Joe Really hope the hcp's can sort him out soon.

Apologies for all the birthdays I have missed; no idea where the last month has gone.

Had a great time with my Mum on a 4 night cruise. We spent the whole time talking and relaxing, eating and sleeping. Came back to results of her scan, which whilst showed up a small pulmonary embolism (which can be managed with drugs) the tumours in her liver have shrunk a bit and the ones in her lungs have stayed the same and not grown. Such fab news

Sorry to post such a self absorbed post.

Hope everyone is ok. xx

elkiedee · 05/05/2010 22:57

Glad to hear your mum's doing well, hope that continues.

CaptainDippy · 06/05/2010 07:52

Great news about your mum SOL and glad such a lovely time was had by all

Latest update from Ellen:

05.05.2010 @ 17:11pm

"Chest drain is out, Joe is thrilled! We're going for an x-ray and an ultrasound scan tomorrow. If all ok then we may be transferred back to local."

Good new

I'll keep you updated

cazboldy · 06/05/2010 09:33

great! much better news!

CaptainDippy · 06/05/2010 20:15

Evening

Not heard much from POTC today, except that her mother was visiting, which is not necessarily a good thing Will update when I hear any more. Off to count votes soon .....

OP posts:
CaptainDippy · 07/05/2010 22:44

Latest from POTC:

06.05.2010 @ 20:38pm

"Scan showed several pockets of fluid that have very thick membranes surrounding them so draining is not an option. It has been decided that we try continuing with antibiotics for a while as only other option is keyhole surgery, which is higher risk while his lung is so inflamed. They have said we can go back to Bury Hospital & we've been waiting all day, but no beds and they say none til morning so we're stuck here."

Finally the hospital paid for a Taxi to transport them when a bed became available; so they are now at the Hospital that is closer to POTC's home

Here's some more on Joe from today @ 13:17pm:

"Joe's doing well, but it is bit "two steps forward, one step back." We spent yesterday encouraging him to walk, but ended up with lots of wetting himself because he couldn't do muscle control of walking and bladder! Today has been better, he's been in the ward garden on a trike and hasn't has an accident so far and he has eaten a full meal instead of just the veg!"

Got this message about an hour ago:

"We're back and settled. They have upped Joe's dose of IV anti-biotics to the maximum from just a regular does and are giving them in a drip instead of pushing them through in a syringe. He seems to like it better and fell asleep! The notes from Cambridge say 4 days IV and then see where we are."

Glad they are back, nearer to home; but still a way to go it seems, poor things.

One of my best friends is getting married today

OP posts:
Sexoncleggs · 08/05/2010 17:25

Poor POTC and Joe Never ending.

Thanks for keeping us updated Dippy. Hope the wedding went well today

K has chicken pox They are everywhere poor love. We were supposed to be going to Devon for the weekend for a party, but we are not going anywhere.

Going stir crazy. The weather is pants too.

Hey ho.

CaptainDippy · 08/05/2010 19:27

Poor K SOL and poor you - not being able to go away too Hope she is better soon

Wedding was lovely Off out to evening reception in a mo

Latest just received from POTC:

"Joe has settled in now and going well. Higher does through drip is working well and less stressful than pushing through. Temp still up, but seems to be slightly down with bigger gaps between peaks. Ward is empty so very quiet, being in our own room is nice, but getting a bit bored! Saw Joe's doctor today and he is hopeful temp will stabilise and I will then have option to go home and come in daily, they will adjust time of dose to suit us."

All looking promising.

OP posts:
Sexoncleggs · 08/05/2010 21:27

Good news for Joe

K is in a real state bless her. Really high temp at 2 ish, brought down by Nurofen and then after her bath she was shaking with cold due to her temp being high again It is so heart breaking. Despite everything, she keeps telling me she loves me, and she put all the lego away before bath time

She is absolutely covered in spots; they are everywhere.

Anyway, hope everyone else is doing ok.

Glad the wedding went well Dippy. xx

P's pre-school was burned to the ground last night

OP posts:
Sexoncleggs · 09/05/2010 22:05

Oh Dippy, that is awful I saw your comment on FB but wasn't sure if that is what you meant, ie it had burnt down.

What will happen now?

K is so poorly I think some of her spots are infected so may need ab's. She is literally covered - far worse than B was when she had them. Her temp keeps spiking as well; day 4 now. Can't believe it will get any worse.

Feel very down. Can't stand seeing her in such a mess; she looks awful; her eyes are all puffy.

Need to go to bed as last few night have been rough ones.

Night Dippy; seems to be just me and you atm. xx

cazboldy · 10/05/2010 12:39

oh Dippy that's awful

SOL has she been to the doc's? Or better still get them out to her, as she will probably be uncomfortable with clothes and car seat straps etc. When my eldest had the chicken pox (he was 8) he had it terribly. there was no normal skin left on his face and he had them on his eyelids, in his mouth, up his nose etc

He was in agony and was sooo hot.

The doc came out and he was actually sedated for a couple of days to give him a chance to sleep and get over the worst of it.

Poor little K xx

Sexoncleggs · 10/05/2010 12:53

Hiya Caz,

we haven't been to the docs; luckily she seems much better today. She still has loads of spots and there is one on her chin that looks a biy iffy, but I'll give it another day. She has them on her eyelids as well and on her lip

Dippy, how are things with you?

Bramshott · 10/05/2010 13:10

Sorry to have been a bit "absent" lately - I blame the election !
