how is everyone's friday going? has anyone read that thread in pregnancy about refusing routine tests? I just posted on it, but expecting to get shot down in flames soon enough. I guess i fail to understand why you wouldn't have the basic testing done that is offered. It isn't offered just cause the NHS haven't got anything else to spend money on!!
anyway, rant over, saw gp, referred to consultant. scan at 6-7weeks. Job done .
Now can someone tell me when and how you usually book in for a pregnancy? If all goes well, we will be consultant led, but still want to be in with the midwives.
Thanks girls, A awake now. posting over!

MrsMcJnr · 23/04/2010 21:43

Bigcar ? our flat is marble throughout and then tiles on the terrace, somehow I feel happier when she is out on those, and they seem more forgiving! She is now crawling with her knees up, think it?s the change from trousers to dresses as it has suddenly got warmer here. My DS still has his dummy and he has regressed from only having it to sleep to having it on him most of the time though not necessarily in his mouth. Will need to tackle it soon (he?s 2.2yrs) but think I?ll do the potty training first. I?ve heard that tourist quite about Windsor too and the one about Edinburgh castle and the train station below it! A climbing up, soil eater here too. Of course you belong here with us

Snow ? MIL is coming on 4 May now. A?s sleeping has been even worse recently, I really am at my wits end. I have joined a thread for people disillusioned with their 6m+ babies not sleeping. There are some helpful tips on it. I am trying to keep a food diary but don?t want to cut out breast milk, don?t know how I would get her to take anything else as she doesn?t take a bottle and will only drink water from her cup. Lovely news for your friend can?t believe you are pregnant again, it feels like 5 mins ago we had our June babies doesn?t it? When are you due? Haven?t read the thread about refusing routine tests but have to say that I have and would again. Specifically, I refused the double test (some parts of the UK it?s a triple test) I felt that the ?results? would upset me or make me anxious. I don?t want to be told a probability figure as having lost a child I will always think I will be in 1 in whatever who is unlucky. Also various things (like blood clotting issues) can distort results from blood tests. What I feel comfortable with is having a nuchal fold scan at the most appropriate time (around 10 ? 12 weeks) and then taking a decision on how to proceed based on that measurement. Luckily I have not had to do that to date. I think ante-natal testing is like a merry go round, it is very hard to get off once you get on. Off my soap box now!

Gauchita ? thanks for helping me with the nursery application for DS. I find out on 5 May if he got a place, fingers crossed! won?t talk to you about driving, took me years to finally get a licence and I never really use it wow, warm flat mine is only 23C!

June ? yay for teeth! I have a bugaboo chameleon for Aaliyah, a McLaren Quest for DS and an Emmaljunga Twin Xerox for them both. The McLaren has the least amount of shopping space and the Emmaljunga the most (funnily enough) but the Bugaboo is quite good for getting lots of stuff in. Love that buggy so much.

Choccie ? hey there

Gauchita · 23/04/2010 23:45

¡Hola!

Mrsmc, fingers crossed for you here then! I saw that thread a few months ago I think, it had good tips, yes. It's just so hit and miss sometimes, we have one good night and one bad, and then a good one again Hope tonight A sleeps well and you can rest I saw you posted on the lisping thread, it got hilarious at times

Snow, yay! Congratulations to your friend! I read the thread after you mentioned it, some stories are so and some mums are just so stubborn sometimes, which is sad as well... I can understand women who choose not to have amnios or other tests that diagnose DS, for example. I didn't as it wouldn't have changed our minds anyway and the amniocentesis has a miscarriage risk... But there are other things that can only be picked up with scans or blood tests and can literally save the babies' lives. Hope the thread hasn't upset you, please don't let it do that. Oh, in answer to your question, I think in some places you're either consultant-led or MW-led (and they're strict about that) but others aren't like that. Maybe ask your doc and see what they say?

Choccie, hi there! Thanks for your words re. driving

Hi to all Juners!

Nice day here, we had a photo shoot with M (DH's former colleagues gave us a sitting as a gift). She enjoyed it quite a bit, smiled lots and was amused by it all

I went driving with DH and did it quite well. DH said he was proud

Off to bed!

Waves!!!

June2009 · 25/04/2010 13:56

Hey girls well Aaliyah MUST be worn out, I am. She got up at 6.50am spent two hours in the park this morning, crawling, pulling up etc, had a 40 minute snooze and then spent 4 hours crawling, pulling up, walking with her hand held walker thingie (what are they called?) didn?t have an afternoon nap but did eat 3 good meals though not much milk. She fell asleep in the car about 7pm and only woke about 30 mins ago for milk. Let?s hope we have a good night!

Gauchita ? the NCSS says it is often like that, one good night and then one bad. Yes that thread was amusing hope you can show us some of the photo shoot pictures!

June ? sorry to hear that the in-laws are being a pest again we finally have great weather here

Strawberrysam ? you are a busy lady, here there and everywhere! LOL at Lizzie saying ?no?!

Did anyone have one of those cots that attach to your bed? I am thinking of selling my Amby Nature?s Nest so that I can have one of those next time, what do you think?

Very quiet on here

snowwombat · 25/04/2010 21:40

just a flying post as knackered and off to bed in a minute
mrsmac just wondering why you think you might have to stop A having breast milk? If you think A has a cow milk protein or lactose intolerance, you cut out the dairy and soy and she still has the milk. Is she putting on weight ok?
As to the cot, are you thinking about another baby soon??. Would like the info too as I think we will use a 'sidecar' cot if all goes well this time.
Thanks for your thoughts on the testing issue. It was the bloods that flagged up things were likely to be pear shaped for DS1. I know we would never terminate a pregnancy for down's but those bloods give many many other indicators too. Like you, I am not interested in the probability figures- makes no odds to me, but the other results quite impportant for the whole clotting issue.
Fingers crossed for some good sleep tonight

strawberry glad you back safely, what a crazy few weeks. When is your DH going to learn to drive?

june time for strict rules with the ILs again? Are they doing their 'drop around whenever we like' tricks again?Did you have a nice time at the park?

gauchita thanks for your kind words. Think I will hide the thread. I see the implications of not testing/screening from both personal and professional experience.I can't help but think about the babies we shared a room with when A was in hospital with his UTI. They were babies who's insides were on the outside when born and went straight into surgery. All alive because the scan picked it up, and their arrival was carefully prepared and planned for.
Do we get the see the photo shoot results?what fun!

Hi bigcar, choccie, venetian and everyone, hope you had lovely weekends

Gauchita · 26/04/2010 11:31

¡Hola!

Snow, hope you had a nice rest We're supposed to be able to see the pics today (on photographer's website). Let's hope we have some nice ones!

Snow and Mrsmc, M has a cotbed and when she was tiny what we did was set it at the highest level and it was at exactly the same level of our bed, we just took off one of the side railings and voila! I know you have special beds for that, but just wanted to share what we did She slept like that until January, when she went into her own bedroom.

Strawberry, you've had some hectic weeks, haven't you? Hope you had a nice time. at L's first word. Bless her! I imagine your Dh's face

June, hope you had a nice time at the park As Snow said, time for a boundaries reminder for the ILs again, huh? Hope they're not giving you hell...

Hi to all Juners!

Quiet weekend here, we went to Leeds on Saturday, it was sunny and lovely Sunday was miserable, though, lots of rain.

Oops, M's lunchtime, back later!

Waves!!

bigcar · 26/04/2010 14:18

afternoon all and what a lovely sunny one it is here!

gauchita, I don't know how our los can eat so much crap, E doesn't gag, unlike he did with his veggies when little he quite likes the soil! We had rain early on yesterday but the afternoon was beautiful, good job really as ds1 had his St Georges parade with the cubs, he plays the cymbals in the band. Quite funny really, dh asked him how he knew when to bash them together and he said, when the big drum goes bang. So dh asked, what if the big drum goes bing, he said, oh I still do it then went totally over his head!

snow, oooo congratulations to your friend Tbh I don't get all the refusing tests, although I wouldn't ever want to see anyones rights taken away not to, everyones different and all that. But I do sometimes think that a few people think that the worst that can happen is getting a child who has down syndrome when really that is just the tip of the iceburg, seems to me that all anyone ever talks about is downs. So much isn't detectable of course, like dd3, we had no idea but I still had all the basic tests that were offered for E, theres no guarantees either way. I think there needs to be a lot more education on the antenatal tests and the implications from the results. Did you manage to find out how the antenatal care works where you are, I think it varies quite a lot.

MrsMcJnr, I think that's a good approach, tackle one thing at a time. We got rid of the dummies at christmas as that's when the dummy fairy comes and you get extra pressies if you leave them out for her Fingers crossed for the nursery place, hope the trawl through the paperwork was worth it! How did A sleep in the end last night, she was one busy girl

june, sympathies on the il front. I currently have the opposite problem with mine. Dh asked mil if she wanted to come and watch ds1 in his parade with us but apparently her sunday afternoons are precious. She's retired, does bugger all all week, she sleeps on sofa, fil is upstairs on his computer, we only ask once in a blue moon. They won't come here either, unless it's one of the dcs birthdays and even then not always, they live a 5/10 minute drive away, we make sure we go round every week. And to top it off they sit there and moan that they never see anyone We're all loving this weather

strawberry, sounds manic but pleased all is well Lol at Ls first word and her choice of when to use it

choccie, I'm using dd3s umbrella fold buggy for E some of the time, so much easier on the back

I have my worries about ds1 They had the police in school last week doing their bit against knife crime and going on about how they shouldn't have knives, shouldn't carry knives, shouldn't touch them. Typical ds1, when they asked if anyone had any questions at the end, he asked if he was allowed a knife to eat his dinner you know the expression, there's always one, well why does that one always have to be one of mine?!

we picked up our new car on saturday! The old big car was on it's way out so we thought we'd better replace it before it died completely. So we have a lovely shiney new (for us) big car, so won't have to name change

waves to all

snowwombat · 27/04/2010 08:35

gorgeous day here again! Off swimming shortly.
A is having a run of good nights- only up once for 20mins or so the last 4 nights. Day time sleeps have been a bit of a struggle. Trying to get consistent on the sleep training but after an hour and a vomit in the cot yesterday, I just returned to old habits and put him on me to sleep.

mrsmc how you doing???I hope i didn't come across rude on the breastmilk question, just wanted to make sure you know you could feed A all you like, just cut down your own dairy if you worried bout the lactose issue.

bigcar very exciting about your new bigcar. A is a lover of dirt too! When we were planting our vege patch on the weekend, he also loved pulling a full watering can over himself several times and eating the dug over soil .

gauchita how were the pics?? Thanks for the advice on the cotbed. Good to know.

Still none the wiser re antenatal care. Will wait to see consultant and then go from there. There is a high risk unit with a good reputation in the hospital and also an amazing sounding MLU, although it only has 3 rooms. Just taking it a day at a time.

Right, best go deal with the breakfast carnage

Waves to everyone.

Gauchita · 27/04/2010 11:39

Hi all!

Snow, hope you enjoy swimming Glad to hear A has had good nights. Over here it's still hit and miss, looking forward to coming back from BA and starting the NCSS sleep techniques Ohh we have the same here! Yesterday the aloe plant pot suffered some battering, M has no fear whatsoever of all the prickly thorns! She had some soil and then knocked it over

Bigcar, yay! Congrats on the Big Car Awwww your DS1 sounds so cute! Bless him

Hi to all Juners!

I'm soooooo fed up with an ebay seller. We bought some baby proofing items (2pcks) back on 6th April (!!). The lady completely forgot about it and I could tell when after a week they hadn't arrived. I contact her and she says she has already sent them As I say again "sorry, but they're not here" she offers to send them again BUT she has none of the ones we bought any more SO she has to send instead of 2 packs of 20 pieces, 4 packs of 10. Fair enough, I agree as by now I'm already fed up with the whole thing. The items have just arrived and they are 4 packs of corner cushions and door jammers ONLY! We had bought packs that contained socket covers, fridge latches, safety latches AND corner cushions and door jammers. Argh! How on earth did she think it was OK/acceptable/the same to send those!! I've just veeeeeeeeeery politely asked her to send me her postal address to send them back and for her to give me a refund. It's been 21 days, this transaction is obviously not going to work, ever.

Argh! Rant over

Right, off to Tesco to get some food for M for the trip

Waves!!!

June2009 · 27/04/2010 20:24

Right, I've finally got a bit of of time for a catch-up!

gauchita good luck with your ebay seller, I was just wondering about getting an account and selling some baby stuff on there.
My friend has a streety comfort too, it's nice that baby can face either way!

sam You've had a busy couple of weeks, hope you're not too tired. C also loves houmous at the moment :D I cannot stand dh's driving, I pretty much always end up screaming (out of fear), he has to overtake and go fast and swear at people . needless to say I insist on driving.

bigcar congrats on the car. Ah don't worry, I was a bit like that when I was younger, it's all good. (though obviously being a bit funny with the police may not be the wisest ;). I'm now the proud owner of a basket for my quiny. I went to the park this pm to try it out and it's fab so thanks for that link!

snow hope you enjoyed your swimming, we keep saying we'll go. Where did you get your swimsuit from? I'm looking for one.
I remember being quite stressed with the long wait for the first booking appointment, it didn't happen until January which must have been @ 3 or 4 months. There isn't that much happening until your scan.
Are you still looking for a job now?

mrsmc where do you store all these prams . I hope some of these tips work for you re: A' sleep. How's things with dh btw?
Hmm, potty training... not looking forward to that! I remember when my younger brother was being potty trained .

Re: ils I wouldn't mind if they were nice and made conversation but mainly they turn up (unannounced) and complain and are depressed about everything. Mil also makes snide comments about the state of the house (which is clean and tidy btw, I have a cleaner who takes care of that) or how dd "looks cold" (she isn't) or "needs a hat" (she doesn't indoors), she infuriates me.
Sometimes she'll phone and just talk at me for 5 minutes, I can't get a word in edgeways. Other times they just turn up and if i'm upstairs with baby (settling her to sleep or whatever) They come up and blow raspberries at her. (fgs, i'm trying to ger her to sleep, I mean wtf??)
I do try and strike up conversations but sil just seems completely disconnected (she did not know who David Cameron was last week on TV, she's 29, is that not weird?).
Anyway, I could go on and it's really not eating me up as much as it was before but it does make me feel claustrophobic when I come nack from the park and sil is at my house and mil is "popping by later" and bil is coming round for dinner, all not planned before I set off to the park. Doesn't happen everyday but it does happen every week.
I'm glad the nice days are here so I can get out and avoid them (It is quite sad that it has come to that but I need some space, I've told dh I'm not picking up the house phone anymore as I don't want to talk to them atm.)
Well, I wasn't going to elaborate on that because it all sounds negative and they can be nice and when they are it is lovely.
I probably should have gone and leave it at that but it is good to get it out here!

Ladies, for those who could potentially meet up in London would you rather do so in a park or at the zoo/aquarium or softplay or any other suggestions? (and when!)

Meeting RL friends wth babies tomorrow and really looking forward to it, hopefully weather nice enough to go to the park.

On the weight front, I've been walking a lot with the pram. We're going for an hour walk quite regularly now and I try and walk to the groups when I can and to the park as often as possible so hopefully I should see some drop off within a couple of weeks. I was also eating better but I still have ups and downs with that

All right we're running late today and it's time for bath. (c has started doing the sign language for bath everytime we go past the bathroom, it is the cutest thing!).

Take care juners!

OP posts:
MrsMcJnr · 28/04/2010 22:03

Hey ladies how are you all? Can?t believe that our babies? birthdays are getting so close we have a 1st birthday party for a friend?s baby on Sat. I am pretty sure Aaliyah is going to be walking before then, she is so funny with her little walker thing, she looks like Maka Paka! Sleeping has improved marginally in that she has slept from 9pm-12am without needing us for the last couple of nights but then has still been up a few times after that. I guess Rome wasn?t built in a day! The last couple of nights I think I have been ?dream feeding? but the wrong way round. Have gone to bed with DD asleep in her cot and then woken to find her feeding or asleep on me so have put her back into her cot only to find her back with me a few hours later it?s like Groundhog Day

Will try and catch up now?

June2009 · 29/04/2010 09:09

Aaaww the first birthday party ....(quickly followed by "arrgghh, the first bday party!!")

What are you doing for it, where is it going to be and how many people are you inviting? Are you sending invitations??

So far we know we're doing a bbq at home on a Sunday and there'll be a cake with a nice candle, probably around 2pm. I know who I want to invite (around 15/20 people). But I know mil will just go ahead and invite her sisters and their children who may or may not turn up which will either really bump the numbers up or leave us with lots of leftover food. Need to talk to dh about that. And in that case I should really invite my dad/brother from France otherwise dad will understandably get the hump.

Right, time to go and do some work,
take care juners

OP posts:
Gauchita · 29/04/2010 10:02

Hi all,

June, I feel for you. Talking to DH is a good idea, just to avoid an ulcer or a head explosion They definitely sound intrusive and (argh, I'm trying to find an English word for an adjective we use in Argentina for this type of people!!) well, they just don't see that their actions are not OK, which is even more frustrating I guess Sending you patience and assertiveness vibes Don't be afraid to set boundaries, esp. when they have to do with C and her rest/quiet time/feeding time, etc.

We're probably having two couples with their LOs (the ones I usually see), another couple and then two other friends, which takes us to about 10 people? No family here so... M's bday is on a Monday this year so I guess we'll do it either on a Sat or Sun

I don't know if you got them, ladies, but I got two bday magazines in these past two weeks with ALL sorts of tempting things Argh! DH looked at me as if saying: you know we don't need to buy all that but you want to, right? Well, they'll be 1 only once, won't they? I guess once we're back from Arg we'll start planning

Mrsmc, glad things are looking a bit better on the sleep front

Hi to all Juners!!

Right, ebay seller finally replied to our email after I sent her one telling her that we were very sorry but if we didn't hear from her we'd just have to ask paypal for our refund directly She replied 10 mins later! DH is posting the package this morning and I'm sending her an email with the total amount to be refunded Now I have to look for baby proofing stuff again. Oh well...

Right, the trip is quite imminent, bracing myself, doing lots of "ommmmmmmm" and trying not to over-think worst case scenarios. We have a saying that (literally) goes "he who gets burnt with milk cries when seeing a cow". Well, I'm definitely going to cry if I see a cow!

Hope you have a lovely day ladies!

Waves!!!

ps: I'll upload some of the photos now!

Gauchita · 29/04/2010 10:13

Pics uploaded now!

bigcar · 29/04/2010 10:27

morning all

gauchita, how about oblivious, think that might be the word! I love that saying How long till you leave? Fingers crossed that lady sorts herself out and you find a replacement.

snow, how was swimming?

june, I don't think ds1 was meaning to be funny, he was being honest The ils sound a complete nightmare, on the one hand it can be lovely having lots of family but on the other . . . . . . . .

MrsMcJnr, E has one of those push along toys, the vtech one, he loves his too These first birthdays are coming round very quickly, E is 11 months now so about 4 weeks to go. Don't think we'll do too much, maybe the park and then some family over, if they can be bothered!

I took E and dd3 to the park this morning, it was lovely, lovely blue sky and warm but then it went really grey so thought I'd better get home before it rained, only it's still dry. Oh well.

waves to all

bigcar · 29/04/2010 10:28

gauchita, I can't see your pics, the link isn't on your profile.

Gauchita · 29/04/2010 10:39

Bigcar, hi! We're leaving on Saturday. It's grey here as well although the temp is OK Your ILs are the opposite to June's I imagine it can also be frustrating at times...

hmm, something was definitely strange when I went into my profile as ALL the previous pics were gone! Anyway, it allowed me to upload these new ones and I can see them so I'm

Let's see if I put a link here?

Here

Let me know

bigcar · 29/04/2010 10:50

gauchita, sorry, still can't see them. Have you made one that anyone can see, otherwise it doesn't work for some reason Can you tell I had the same problem, must be Sues fault Saturday, wow, are you all ready?

Gauchita · 29/04/2010 10:53

Argh! I made it visible to my mumsnet mates!

Yeah, definitely Sue's fault! I saw that thread yesterday although I don't know which Sue they're talking about

I'll look into this picture thing

Gauchita · 29/04/2010 10:59

Ok, I've clicked on something and now the link to "Gauchita's pictures" appears.

Let's see!!!!

bigcar · 29/04/2010 11:12

gauchita, Sue is Gordon Browns advisor who recommended he talked to the "bigot" woman, obviously without knowing how it would end

wow, those are beautiful photos M looks so grown up in that last one!

June2009 · 29/04/2010 15:50

gauchita These pics are fantastic :D Are you going to have a couple of them blown up and put on the wall? We had that as a present from sil for xmas and it looks great.
I am going to have to think about this "cow" saying for a bit, not sure I'm getting it!?

Have a nice trip, how long are you going for? Hopefully they don't have Icelandic volcanic ashes on that side of the atlantic ;)
Good luck with the packing, I love packing for holidays but hate hate hate the stress that comes with it. (about forgetting stuff, taking too much, not enough etc).

Nursery seems to be going well, they did some painting today (aww (haha, pfb alert I think it might have to go on the wall as well ;) and C ate all that she was given, hurray!

We'll discuss babie's bday plans later...

OP posts:
snowwombat · 29/04/2010 20:33

gauchita I can only see one very gorgeous photo of M when I click on your profile. How cute! Why can't i see more? I will blame Sue How is the packing going?

bigcar we great here. Swimming lovely, going again tomorrow. Went to a 'gymbaroo' type session today, lots of balls, obstacles and a bouncy castle. A loved it. Glad you didn;t get the rain, I had managed to put 2 loads of washing on the line this morning and they got soaked. grr.

june sounds like DH needs to have a v stern word with MIL about invites. Glad nursery better for C.

We are camping in the N Forest for the weekend. Might be a bit wet, but hey, skin's waterproof .

A is having a small birthday party, mainly family, my sister coming from Greece. Think we will have a few friends too.

I am shattered tonight, although the morning sickness is no where near as bad as last time, evenings are the worst. ?body clock still set to southern hemisphere?

hi to everyone and night night
