Ideas for meet up:
There's a shopping centre called Brent Cross with a child friendly Wagamama and a softplay centre called topsy turvyon the northern line.

I've never been to this softplay centre (or any softplay centre come to think of it).

That's an idea anyway, completely open to any suggestions.

Meet up list:
laura
june
gauchita
bigcar
ineed

sam we're in Southgate so not too far from Barnet. Someone else here lives in Barnet, ether bunny or choccie, can't remember.
how long are you staying? will you be around on sunday? (you could pop round to our bbq!!)

Gauchita · 16/06/2010 07:37

Morning!

June, that sounds fun! I was thinking last night where it'd be best to meet, and somewhere where the LOs can play run riot sounds good.

Choccie, so nice to hear from you! Hope you come back soon

Oh, I got a message from Doris on FB the other day, she sent lots of waves and hugs to all and said she misses us and will try to come visit us soon

Right, almost everything ready for M's party on Saturday. I have to go buy another cake baking tin as the one I have is 1cm smaller than the topper Fortunately I realised yesterday

QUESTION: I don't want to go all worried but I know me and I'm restraining myself Do LOs like cow's milk "quickly"? I tried M with some this morning and although she drank a few sips, she then made faces and refused to drink anymore I'm going to breastfeed until she's 20, aren't I? What should I do? Leave it for a few hours/days and then try again?

Hope you have a lovely day, ladies. It's full of sunshine here, hope you're having the same.

Waves!

Gauchita · 16/06/2010 07:38

Ugh, I think I should have said "I know myself" but it's too early and I'm not even sure!

lauraloo09 · 16/06/2010 08:50

gauchita Sarah was like that at first but I now heat the milk up and she loves it

Gauchita · 16/06/2010 10:18

Laura, good to know She took a few more sips so I guess it's a matter of her getting used to it. Fingers crossed

Hello all,

Thank you for all the birthday messages. We had a nice day - my dd helped me make the cake and in the end I put it on a board and turned it into a monster cake (my dd's idea because Charlie had one in Charlie & Lola). It was green with three eyes, three legs, a red tail and crazy hair. F had his first hula hoops and he immediately stuck them on his fingers. We had little sausages, grapes and crisps, then the cake. He was a bit scared of the candle. He loved all his presents - particularly the Glutting Giraffe and the wooden crane - big hits. My dd got him something from the school fete - a second hand toy for 50p (from her pocket money) and he loved that too.

We went to our dd's new school last night for the reception introduction and then stopped at Pizza Hut for a nice moment together. He then had to do some work, so the champagne was never drunk. We had a lovely day though.

gauchita - I put a 1/4 milk with 3/4's formula at first, then 50:50 and then move it up to all milk. My dd liked 50:50 for a few weeks before she would accept 100% milk. Always warm like all milk she has had until now.

strawsam - yes, being outwardly composed is an art form!!! Big hugs.

I am doing some cycling, with F in a baby seat on the back. Once I am a bit fitter I would like to do some running, but hard to time it, as we eat as soon as kids in bed usually.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 16/06/2010 21:46

Hello all. Brent Cross is good for us. Will have to get MIL to take DS to school that day so that I can just cope with DD on the train...

Strawberry - we went to London Aquarium and the London Eye today. DD loved the aquarium, but the Eye was a bit frustrating for her as it was a bit boring! The rest of us, however, loved it!

Gauchita - same problems here with the cow's milk. I'm going cold turkey in the evening and DH is persisting with the cow's milk (she has a bit, then starts spitting it out!). We're still feeding in the morning. I think I'll wait until she's taking all her cow's milk before I stop the morning feeds... good luck with the party on Sat!

Hello to the rest of you. Lovely sunshine in London today.....

June2009 · 16/06/2010 23:18

sam I keep forgetting the party is on father's day! When are you staying until? We've for a pretty busy schedule from now until monday night because of the party and people coming&staying over etc.

gauchita for the cow's milk, C did not like at all it at first but now in the evening I give it to her with her formula 50-50 and she drinks it.(cold, she's never liked hot milk.)

I'll try to go and check this topsy turvy out in the next month or so.

Hi all

Hope you are all having a nice week.

dh is having problems with his back again and is laid up wityh it at the mo, we are all scared he may need another operation on it (had one 3years ago for a slipped disk/trapped nerve) as he has the same symptoms, pins & needles in leg, bad dull ache pain, difficulty moving/lifting anything. just waiting to be referred back to the neurosurgeon

I's party went really well on sunday anyway, the weather was nice until about 4ish when majority of the guests had left so spent the hectic part of it in the garden. Isobel wanted to play with all the bigger kids as usual!

Am I the only one giving follow on formula? Isobel normally eats really well but a couple of weeks ago had a sicky bug and went off her veg etc so started on this rather than cows milk for the extra vitamins etc. may have to be brave and make the move to cows milk now she has a good diet again.

Meet up sounds exciting, wish I could say count me in, but we live in Lincolnshire so a bit of a trek (appreciate not as much as Laura ) but would probably be on my own. Its a shame, look forward to hearing all about it

venetian - dd1 starts reception in September too. She doesnt turn 4 until end of July wither so seems to tiny to be going to school! Shes very excited about it though, we have her open day on 1st July

Hi to everyone else and happy birthday to your little tots! x

June2009 · 17/06/2010 18:52

hey llynn sorry to hear about your dh's back problems, it can really get you down when you can't move about the way you want. I hope it gets better.
We give C follow-on formula and cow's milk mixed.
Glad you had nice weather for I's party, we're hoping for the same this Sunday. Guests will probably call it a day around 4pm too, that's when mil and her side of the family are leaving so fil can come as well.
Party preps are underway, we did a bit of shopping this morning, very busy days tomorrow & Saturday. Can't wait to see my brother who arrives tomorrow.

Yesterday I got a dress for the party and a sports bra so went to the gym this am for a bit of running.
Aching all over now, yay, loving it :D

I figured I can go in the morning twice a week just after I've dropped C off to nursery since they start at 7:30am now, then maybe a couple of times in the evening, once at the weekend and bob's your uncle I'll be a size 12 again in no time ;) (We hope anyway, I could only manage 5 minutes running at a time this morning...)also booked one of the free taster sessions for personal training.

I have to go watch the football match some work to do now but just wanted to say that I've had a really rough week and your support has really helped me, so thank you so much!

Gauchita · 17/06/2010 20:38

¡Hola!

June, gorgeous dress! I had been tempted to buy something new for M's party and you've just given me the final nudge Ohhh those aches are both awful and sweet! Glad to hear you've organised your week in a way that it leaves you time for gym/running. Really happy you're a happy bunny

Llynn, I'm sorry to hear about your DH's back issues. Poor him, and he's been there before So now he has an appt with a neurosurgeon to see what the cause of the pain is? I hope it goes well and they can give him something to make him feel better.

Vene, glad to hear F's day was lovely Cycling with F sounds fun! And I bet it's a hell of a workout They're little but heavy! (at least mine is ha ha)

Strawberry, another top puller here She also says a not-perfectly-clear "tetita" (in Spanish "boob") when she wants milk

Ineed, hi! Not long for Saturday's race. Will be thinking and rooting for you

Lovely sunshine here today. We had a busy day, like June buying things for Saturday and I still forgot some so I'll have to pop in again tomorrow

M had her first short stay at nursery today. We stayed for an hour, she played with the other babies and explored the room She only cried when I popped out of the room to get the forms/documents from the secretary's office but then cried because she didn't want to leave

I need you ladies to knock some sense into me (maybe). I'm not completely sure whether to send her two half days or only one. At the school they told me two were better because otherwise they're so tiny they "forget" with so many days in between. But I'm not sure! I don't need to send her twice a week, IYKWIM. AGH! Why is this so hard? Maybe I should just send her once a week at the beginning and then see? Jeez, I'm rambling, sorry...

Waves!!!

venetianred · 17/06/2010 20:43

Just on quickly as in the middle of a mass office clean - I would agree that 2 would be better. I think one could be hard on her - just not quite regular enough for her to be entirely comfortable.

llynnnn · 17/06/2010 21:17

Gauchita - Isobel only goes to nursery on a friday morning. She started when she was 9mths and has only ever been once a week. The first couple of times she cried when dh left her but soon settled. Now she is fine and goes in with no problems and has a lovely time. Like you I was unsure whether she would settle just once a week but thought I'd give it a try and see and she is fine. If you'd prefer to only go once a week I'd give it a try for a few weeks and see how she goes, you could always increase at a later date.
Hope the party goes well on Saturday and the weather stays nice.

We think dh's back pain is caused by the same problem as before, the slipped disk was trapping a nerve. The last op was supposed to have stopped that (they took away half the disk iirc) but it seems like the same nerve is being trapped again at the mo, not good

June - lovely dress, I really like that. Hope the party goes well on Sunday. Really impressed you are managing to fit the gym into your busy schedule, wish I could be so motivated!! Hope you soon get back into the swing of it

lauraloo09 · 17/06/2010 21:25

hiya all hope you all have had lovely weather

gauchita I'm sending Sarah to nursery in September for 1 morning a week then increasing it to 2 days in October

llynnn although sarah is taking cows milk she is only taking around 6oz of it. I am also giving her a bottle of growing up milk in the morning and 1 at night time, not sure if I'm giving her too much though and after this tub of growing up milk I'll just stick with cows milk I know what you mean tho about the vitamins worried sarah's isn;t getting the vitamins she needs.

june lovely dress, I'm needing to find one for a wedding next month, the 3 dresses I have picked out the bride (my friend) as advised me they are not 'guest appropriate' she says they look like a bridesmaid dress however they were lovely and long (dont suit short dresses lol) I am running out of ideas of what to buy

Sarah really not handling the heat too well (poor mite) she's got a sweat rash now here's hoping she gets used to it, think its to be like this for a while

waves and hugs to you all xxx

AllSheepareWhite · 17/06/2010 23:22

Hi everyone, I have been busy working for last few days and sorting out move.

Belated birthday greeting to Venetian's F, hope you had a great day.

Happy birthday to June's C for tomorrow, I hope you get nice sunny weather.

I would be up for meeting, Brent Cross is not so far for us if beginning of September could be tricky as I would be starting new term teaching, but if on a weekend should be ok.

June - glad to hear you are feeling better about yourself, having a new baby is time consuming so don't beat yourself up over it you are doing well to fit gym in now. I have only managed one run since N was born!

Gauchita - N didn't take to cows milk at first either, read somewhere that you could add a bit of water at first to make consistency more like breast milk. Gave that for two days then switched to 100%, N has got used to it over time and now guzzles 5oz bottles in minutes. I also warm it like the others to body temp. You could express some breast milk and start 50/50 then drop bm % if M really doesn't take to cows milk at first. Have heard of people adding a drop of vanilla essence too, but N got better the more I exposed her to the taste.

Llynnn - sorry to hear about DH's back, sounds very painful, I hope he gets some help soon.

Strawberry - N another top puller, a bit like Gauchita's M she says 'titty' when she wants mummy milk!

Waves to everyone , gotta go working tomorrow and still haven't managed to eat dinner

bigcar · 18/06/2010 20:20

june, huge happy birthday hugs to C, hope you've had a lovely day

allsheep, hope N has a wonderful day tomorrow and the sun puts in an appearance, happy birthday

Gauchita · 18/06/2010 20:43

Hi all!

June, happy birthday C!! Hope you've had a lovely day today with lots of sunshine as well.

Bigcar, hi! Hope DD3 had a better week this week

Allsheep, good luck the move! I've forgotten when it is

Laura, is your friend going all bridezilla? Hope you find a dress you like soon

Vene, hi! Hope you managed to get the office clean out of the way DH hates those days

Llynnn, hope the Drs give a solution to your DH (and some painkillers in the meantime!)

Thank you all for your words and support re. cow's milk and nursery

Wise words indeed, M struggled a bit the first day with the milk but I tried warming it up a bit more and yesterday she downed about 9oz!

Re. nursery, DH actually said it'd help if she went once a week in July and then twice a week as of August, which is when hopefully I'll be driving I'll have a word with them on Monday and will see what they say

Crazy weather here today, we started with some pouring rain and as of 2pm the sun came out and it's been gorgeous since then Let's have more of this sun tomorrow and Sunday please! (for all the LOs' birthday parties )

Baking like mad here atm, I breathed a sigh of relief when the sponges came out well, phew! Tomorrow morning we'll tackle the decorating

PS: June, I got a skirt today! Went to Zara and was torn between two, DH started looking at his watch and I made up my mind quickly after that!

Waves!!!

AllSheepareWhite · 18/06/2010 23:05

Hi all,

Happy father's day to all of your DHs/DPs!

Allsheep, oh no, poor you When did you catch it? Were you able to have N's party today? Hope you all feel better soon, sending healthy vibes your way

Bigcar, hi! How's DH's arm? I can't remember if he still has long until the cast comes off Is he enjoying the world cup? Mine records all matches and watches them when he comes back home I've watched some with him, but I can't bear to watch every single match

June, I was thinking of you today, we had some lovely sunshine and I think it was the same down south. Hope you enjoyed the BBQ and had a great time

M's party yesterday went really well. Can you believe it was dead cloudy (and windy) until the exact minute the guests started leaving? It was then sunny (and hot) until 8! Agh! Anyway, she had a lovely time and that's what matters The cake turned out really well, DH woke up with me at 6.30 to do all the decorating, bless him. We managed to put the topper correctly, phew! DH was chuffed with his work

We had a nice day today. We went to a park in Leeds, M fed the ducks and tried to chase some bubbles that DH blew for her, it was quite funny

Waves!!!

llynnnn · 20/06/2010 21:02

Hi to everyone else, will be back soon

bigcar · 20/06/2010 22:00

gauchita, dh had his cast taken off on wednesday but still got 2 weeks extra off work for a bit of physio. And yes, don't think we've missed many of the games [sigh] I'm getting a little bored Dd3 has now been taken out of school, I've totally had it with them, so getting all geared up for an emergency review meeting, hopefully this week! So pleased the party went well, isn't it always the way with our weather

allsheep, hope you're all feeling better soon.

llynnn,
