Happy Mother's day Juners ;)

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
venetianred · 07/06/2010 13:33

june - I know what you mean, my dp's older son was with us, DD and I popped out to the shops and when we got back ds was crying and dp's son said he just started. I looked at his eyes and knew he hadn't just started - he must have just wanted to play his electronic game. Grrrr - but I least I know to not leave him behind or to give more strict instructions about what to do if he cries.

Has anything else disturbed you about the nursery? My neighbour was unhappy about similar things with her nursery - finding her face wasn't cleaned properly, or they couldn't account for a scratch (or more to the point seemed a bit disinterested/surprised). She moved her to another nursery and was really happy. Not long afterwards the other nursery got a lower OFSTED rating - new owner it seems who just employed very young girls.

But I think you get a 'feeling' for these things. Is your gut instinct good or bad?

Gauchita · 07/06/2010 13:35

June,
Have to run but I didn't want to leave your post unanswered.
Major (((hug))) for you. I haven't got any experience with nurseries so maybe some of the other ladies will be able to give better advice but I guess talking to them would be a good idea? Maybe asking them why they just left her to cry or why they didn't try to give her her dummy or find out if she needed something? Another (((hug))). xxx

Back later for a proper catch up!

AllSheepareWhite · 07/06/2010 13:55

Sorry to hear that June, it is difficult when they can't talk to tell you what happened . Glad C is ok now, she will probably forget all about it. Agree with Venetian, trust your gut feeling on this one. Still talk to the nursery manager though find out what happened and if necessary put a complaint on record.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 07/06/2010 21:34

Oh June - How awful. I agree with the others that you have to trust your gut instinct. DS was in nursery from the age of 6 months until he was 20 months. Luckily, he was in a lovely place where I could trust everything that was going on. Talk to the manager, see what s/he says. C should not have left crying on her own. Whenever I went to pick up DS, and he was crying, he was always being cuddled and I never felt as though they were hiding information from me. Sometimes DS was just in a grouch for whatever reason and they'd let me know how long he'd been upset for and they'd give him his dummy. You need to trust your instincts. If it doesn't feel right, then it's not right xx

June2009 · 07/06/2010 23:42

is the thread broken?? It's not showing me any messages since Gauchita's post on Friday.
I know there are some as I could see some this pm.

OP posts:
June2009 · 07/06/2010 23:48

(it shows me the messages if I post, weird)

Thanks for your messages, I think I'll call her keyworker tomorrow (she wasn't there today.) Pfft, it's got me really upset, she looked really stressed and she's such a happy baby people always comment to us how happy she is
She was absolutely fine once we picked her up and after that she was just her usual smiley self.
They're really good usually at this nursery and very nice, and they seem to love C. so I really don't know what happened today.

OP posts:
snowwombat · 08/06/2010 09:30

oh june just reading your message. Glad little C ok now. You must chat to her keyworker and find out why on earth they didnt comfort her/offer a dummy or something.

sorry girls, not been around much, work has been busy at home. A is waking at 3am, why? i can cope with 5am but 3am is awful.

party prep coming along well. made a practice cake but it didn't rise- any suggestions?

be back later.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 08/06/2010 15:35

snow - check the flour. If Self-raising, check it's in-date and hasn't been open too long. If using plain with bicarbonate or some other raising agent, check it's in date. Other than that, it might be your oven. Was it opened a lot during baking, or is it patchy in terms of heat?

venetianred · 08/06/2010 16:25

True - my last cake that failed was due to out-of-date self raising flour. What kind of cake are you making?

pollydianasmummy · 08/06/2010 16:38

Hi everyone. I used to be HelpI'veGottoGiveBirth but changed my name once I'd done it.

It's Polly's first birthday today - we have survived a year now. I thought I'd pop on and say hello to everyone and wish your little ones happy birthday. I do occasionally lurk and have a read to see how you are all doing.

Polly isn't quite walking yet - lots of crawling and crusing. She is a really bad eater - I had her weighed a couple of weeks ago and she is still only 16lbs 8oz. But she is a good sleeper now thank god (after doing gradual retreat then controlled crying which I really recommend).

Hope you are all well
x

AllSheepareWhite · 08/06/2010 16:44

You are not the only one snowwombat, N doing it too at 2am and thinks it is time to get up and play grrr. Not good if I have to get up for work at 6am . Think she is starting to drop a nap and switch to one longer one a day rather than two. Also before I put up black out curtain she was waking around four about a month ago due to the light. Now it is coming towards the solstice it could be that it gets light around that time and that is why A is waking???

Better luck next time around with the cake.

bigcar · 08/06/2010 17:22

afternoon all

polly, happy birthday to P, hope you'vr had a lovely day

allsheep, hello

ineed, how did the cakes turn out in the end? I won't offer any advice on cake making, my skill lies in eating them The party sounds good, did you get to put your feet up in the end? Dd3 was the same with Es pressies, thankfully the novelty soon wore off.

june, sorry to hear about C getting upset definitely raise your concerns with them otherwise it will bug you for ages. Hopefully it will just have been a one off. Did you get Cs hair cut, I seem to remember you were looking for somewhere to do it?

snow, E was wide awake at 5.30 this morning. I would prefer after 6, 5.30 is an ungodly hour in this house I think the light mornings play a huge part, I think all of mine have been the same over the summers when they were small. Of course, now with the older ones I have a job to get them out of their pits in the morning. Apparently, according to dd2 when the alarm goes off, you switch it off and go back to sleep until mum starts shouting

strawberry, how did the counselling go? I really hope you found it useful

gauchita, how's the work going, did you manage to convince dh to go to church in the end?

laura, how are you feeling now, have you caught up with yourself yet

venetian, some of the nurseries round here are like that, all young girls staffing them, not a good thing ime!

E is walking a lot now, definitely got his confidence. I had to take him to a meeting in school this afternoon, he was a star and slept through most of it. For once I wasn't the one having to leave part way through with a noisy child, ds1 and dd2 never used to let me sit the whole way through anything!

E is loving the garden and the nice weather, just have to be so careful what he's putting in his mouth, he'll eat anything that boy

Hope you're all getting some sun and not too much rain, waves to all

snowwombat · 08/06/2010 17:45

hi girls
Happy birthday to P polly. Lovely to see you back
venetian and ineed thanks for your suggestions. Using a new SR flour, but just a sainsbury cheapie, might try a more expensive one and add extra baking powder? The oven is shite- grill comes on when the oven does which is a bloody nightmare for baking. Was just a butter cake- australian women's weekly kids cakebook one. Making a farm yard cake.
allsheep 2am is awful!A has a black out blind but there is def light at 3 and i think that wakes him.
bigcar so pleased E was a star at your meeting, A was not so good at the midwife yest- we had to wait an hr so it was past 5 before i was seen and he was v prickly
gauchita how is work this week?did u get to church. we went sunday morning, was lovely. A is being christened next month

well, we are off to oz for a 5day visit after A's birthday. Anyone used Phenergen on a long haul flight?

Gauchita · 08/06/2010 18:26

Hi all!

Tried to post this morning but then had to run.

June, mmmm don't know why your screen is going weird, is it back to normal now? Otherwise you could ask MNHQ maybe? Talking to her keyworker sounds sensible. Another vote for your gut feeling here.

Snow, fingers crossed for the next cake. I'm getting a slight dent in the middle of every cake these days Maybe I'm opening the oven too much, Ineed's suggestion got me thinking. Are you going to Oz for a wedding or have I just invented that?

Allsheep, ohhh 2-3am is not good. I can see M struggling to go down at 7 these days, maybe light has something to do with that. She's still waking during the night anyway

Bigcar, how nice of E to sleep through the meeting How's DH's arm? Hope he's surviving all the itchiness Not managed to convince DH on Sunday, no... the rain got to him, apparently I need to pass my test soon

Vene, hi!

Polly, nice to hear from you Happy birthday P! Hope she had a lovely day!

Mrsmc, how are you?

Ineed, hi! I saw some pics on FB from E's party, she looked lovely and DS looks so big! Definitely a big brother now

Hi to all Juners!

Hectic days over here, another interpreting job yesterday, another translation to finish and swear in court as well, phew... Really happy, though, work is always good

I got M's icing cake topper on the post today, it looks nice. It has very specific instructions so I'm really hoping I don't mess it up I might order a second one just in case

Got to run now, M ready for her bath

Waves!!!

snowwombat · 08/06/2010 20:02

hey gauchita, yep it is a wedding. All my friends from high school will be there- first time in almost 10 years we have all been together. Few new babies too so will be gorgeous to have cuddles with them! Have you got an icing recipe or are you going to use ready made? I ordered minature farm animals off ebay for A. Hope they arrive in time.
Crap MS tonight, just comes on all of a sudden. Almost threw up in the local shops tonight. Not a great look.
Night night Juners

June2009 · 09/06/2010 19:26

heya, I'm going to try and catch up a little bit later on, hope everybody is well!!
Are you guys giving dhs a present for father's day or just a card (and maybe nreakfast in bed or something like that?)
Any ideas for a little present?

OP posts:
Gauchita · 09/06/2010 21:58

Hi all!

June, DH got a father's day/early birthday/early Christmas present just now, a new TV (which came with free Sky HD as well) so as to watch his beloved world cup as if he were there So on 19th he will be getting a card and a kiss from each Is your screen back to normal? Hope you managed to get some answers from C's nursery.

Snow, your trip sounds fun!! I bet you can't wait Sorry "M"S is bothering you so much, hope you're feeling better today

Really bad weather up here, since last Sunday it hasn't stopped raining Apparently it'll get better for the weekend, fingers crossed!

We're going to visit a nursery tomorrow. We want to send M one half day a week so that she has some contact with other children It'll give me a bit of time as well, although probably not for work as I don't get things on a specific day We'll see...

Waves!!

MrsMcJnr · 09/06/2010 22:29

Happy birthday to all those babies whose birthdays I have missed I just can't believe Aaliyah is 1 tomorrow, where has the time gone?!

llynnnn · 09/06/2010 22:41

Hi all

I know I have neglected you all over the last few months but just wanted to pop on and say that I still think about you and how your beautiful little ones are doing and want to wish them all a very Happy 1st Birthday! Hope you have a lovely time with them and can reflect on all the happy times you've had together over the past year (and the 9months before birth !)

Its Isobel's birthday on Sunday and just can't believe how quickly this year has flown by. Seems like only a second ago I was here, grumpy, tired and uncomfortably overdue!

morning all

MrsMcJnr, huge happy birthday hugs for A today, hope you have a great day

snow, I think fathers day is 20th june this year, so that's next weekend rather than this. No not organisedat all, haven't really thought about what to get dh, I'm hoping there will be football on so I don't have to worry oo much

llynnn, lovely to see you Anything planned for the weekend?

gauchita, sssshhhhhhh, don't say that too loudly, my dh might hear, that would be his dream pressie! Hope the visit goes well today Did you see the news about them changing the driving test? Have you got a date yet?

june, no idea yet, just hoping the kids want to make a load of crap something lovely for dh

snow, hope the ms is ok today, that's not fun. Poor A having to wait all that time, I would have been prickly to. In fact both dd3 and I often were as that was our typical wait, you have my sympathies. Hope the appointment went well.

is everyone elses dh as excited as mine about the football? He found all the england flags last night and wants to decorate the house now [sigh]

Morning!

Mrsmc, happy birthday A!!!! Hope she has a lovely day and full of sunshine

Snow, it's Sun 20th as bigcar said (I think I said 19th yesterday, oops) so you have time.

Bigcar, WHAT???? Nooooo, I didn't hear anything... Oh no! I'll go see what I can find now... I haven't booked the practical one yet, no, I guess it's better to do it ASAP!

Oh, DH here is ecstatic about it No flags here, fortunately but I'm getting ready for almost total control of the remote for a month I don't know about your DH but mine doesn't only watch Argentina's and Brazil's matches, he likes to watch them all! Oh well...

Back later!

Gauchita · 10/06/2010 09:50

Bigcar, it's changing but as from October this year, phew! I guess I'll be taking it before October then
