Hello lovelies

Just about starting to be able to find things now, although the iron was missing for a couple of days so DP was rather crumpled at work!

Wriggly - toothbrushes - teeth brushing in this house has been rather patchy as the boys' brushes vanished into a box and haven't been found yet.....we found some which were possibly current ones but I am ashamed to say that it's been skipped a bit for the last few days....

Totally remember feeling really sad when I first left DS1 with nursery - it does get a lot easier and when you see how much they enjoy themselves it's even easier again. Whenever we go to pick up DS1 from nursery Orbit is beside himself with joy at all the toys and other children, he honestly wouldn't mind if I just left him there for a bit so I think he's ready! He starts on March 8th and I have booked a long cut and colour hair appt for the following week, as a time-to-myself treat.

I also remember feeling upset that other people might teach DS1 things about the world that I should be doing, like how to lace his shoes or blow his nose or the names of animals. Then I realised that unless I was going to be a complete loon and never let my child see other people and HE him all by himself, then probably other people would teach him things over the years. And that what he needs from me is love and security, but he doesn't need to get EVERYTHING in his upbringing from me, in fact it would be weird if he did, so I had to learn to let go. And you know, it's brilliant having other people involved in raising your child - nursery taught DS1 to blow his nose which was not something I really relished! After the first year, raising children is really a series of little goodbyes as they grow up and need you less and less - it's sad but the alternative is having them living at home at the age of 35, with you still doing their washing

getOVERyourself · 10/02/2010 10:31

p.s. I LOVE my new washing machine! Plumbed it in yesterday (all by myself - ) and it's a joy and a dream. And so QUIET! Thank you those that recommended Bosch, my Logixx is lovely lovely lovely.

(Is it sad to be so happy about an appliance? )

AuldAlliance · 10/02/2010 12:28

Hello, Gui, I am glad you posted, was worrying about you!

Taking your baby to nursery/CM is hard at first, but not as hard as you may be expecting. You will both get used to it and adjust your relationship.

Wriggly, I might just take you up on your offer. I have been looking for thingies like that to clean his teeth, and failed. I'll FB you soon if I may...

WFH, I am impressed by your move.

And I may need tips: after moving in to this place in July, we have been putting pressure on the owners to do some work to make it comply with basic norms (i.e. not have the general fusebox in a shop downstairs which is shut at the weekend and from 6pm-9:30am; when we need oil to be delivered for the boiler, ensure that it can be delivered without going through the neighbours' garage and over the garden wall, which they are unsurprisingly annoyed about; not have to pay for the water used by the lady in said shop downstairs, because we have the main meter and she just has a sub-meter).

DH finally got p'd off after we froze in a heating-less, powerless house when A was ill, so he wrote a lawyerly letter. They are now going to do major, major work, involving rewiring the whole house. This means ripping out the existing dodgy electrics, gouging huge holes everywhere, and installing modern wiring. We have to move out for about 2 mths, possibly with all our worldly goods (other option involves wrapping everything in plastic so that plaster dust doesn't seep in everywhere). I can hardly face it, TBH. He will be working his usual hours, and I will have to do all the donkey work on top of my usual load.

And I haven't a clue where to live for 2 mths.

dawntigga · 10/02/2010 17:12

Auld sorry to heap upon your misery but Robin has tried everything he can to get the information of your hard drive, he just can't do it. He's very as he knows how he'd feel if we lost pictures of The Cub.

VeryTiggaxx

AuldAlliance · 10/02/2010 20:14

Never mind, Tigga. I'd pretty much resigned myself to having lost them. Do say thank you very much for his efforts.

Every cloud, and all that.... The owners of this house are prepared to do an affordable rental deal if we rent for two months. Except that there is one week in April when it is booked up. And I have no dates for when this bloody work is to begin.
Am crossing fingers, toes and any other possible part of my body.

bebemoohatessnot · 10/02/2010 22:51

I hate packing for 3 people to travel all by myself. I am so tired and confused and stressed. I'll never sleep tonight. Even if Meg manages to sleep

WrigglyGiggly · 11/02/2010 08:29

Wow Auld that looks like quite a silver lining. I hope it all works out OK and the timings fit in. Fingers x. Tis miserable being at the mercy of builders though.

The bulk of ours is done, but we started work on bookshelves and wardrobes before Christmas. The carpenter (who -to make things trickier- is a friend of ours) is now off on another job and has left us with half finished carpentry until he can find some time to come back. This is sort of OK, but he used my library book to wedge into a gap while he was fitting things. I am running out of reasons to renew it without confessing that it is providing a crucial support role holding up our wardrobe (not to mention that I was looking forward to reading it).

Will happily send you toothbrush thingummies. I got them both in different shops so I will pick one of each up when I am next in the places that sell them. Just FB me your address.

Oh and Fei - I must FB or text you my address too. Egg free cake would of course be lovely, but don't feel you have to if you don't have time. I have the ingredients for apple crumble which should only take 10 mins to put together.

DD is ridiculously excited about seeing the girls tomorrow. She woke up this morning asking if they were coming today. Had to tell her not until tomorrow (but consoled her with the news that she can wear her tutu out of the house as we are celebrating carnival at Spanish playgroup this avo)

BoffinMum · 11/02/2010 08:29

Wow, Auld, that is amazing. You could always go on holiday for the first week of April? It's Easter anyway.

Bicnod · 11/02/2010 09:23

No time to catch up properly but just wanted to shout from the rooftops Oscar slept through last night ! ! !

Day 12 today and The Plan is definitely working. He went down at 18.50, squeaked at 22.45 and at 05.15 but resettled himself then up for day at 06.10. I am full of joy today

I know it's unlikely to last but we are definitely heading in the right direction. hurrah hurrah hurrah!!

Will try to catch up later x x x

BoffinMum · 11/02/2010 09:47

Well shiver me timbers and slap me down with a wet haddock, that is an achievement indeed.

WrigglyGiggly · 11/02/2010 10:04

Oh my word Bicnod.

AuldAlliance · 11/02/2010 10:09

Boff, we can go away that week, as it is Easter hols (the boys and I), but DH has to work. Could be done, if he stays with friends. We'd need to be v organised and pack carefully so as to be able to pack up and clean the house, vacate the premises and then return. But obv I am so keen to stay in that house that it seems a fair price to pay!!

Wriggly, I am laughing at your library book conundrum. And at the haddock.

A is also coming along nicely. Not sleeping through, ooooooh no (hollow laugh to match hollow cheeks from sleeplessness). But no longer demanding BF at night. He awakes twice, and I soothe him to sleep in 5-10mins. Next stage is to soothe him w/o picking him up.

Oops, colleague now in office, must go.

dawntigga · 11/02/2010 10:56

Love you all.

Robin let The Cub fall off the bed - again!

IWasNotVeryHappyTiggaxx

PS we will be trying the No Crying Sleep Solution when I have time/energy to read it!

Feierabend · 11/02/2010 14:27

Oooh Auld I once stayed in Pertuis for a couple of weeks, with a French family. They had the loveliest house ever, but no pool It looks great.

Also laughing at haddocks and library books. And Tigga, that's appalling, when will he ever learn???!!!!

Feierabend · 11/02/2010 14:28

Oh, completely forgot - triple YAY for Bicnod, Oscar and The Plan!

AuldAlliance · 11/02/2010 14:41

If I go to Edinburgh during that Easter week, can we have a meet up, with apple crumble and cake?
Please?
Wriggly, you need to revisit your student stamping ground.
Erm, everyone else needs to come for lots of other reasons I can't quite drum up. Except that Boff thinks it is a horrible town, and she needs to be shown otherwise!

Feierabend · 11/02/2010 15:10

Oh Wriggly, forgot to say, I absolutely LOVE apple crumble and I must admit I haven't managed to bake a cake - had a meeting with my boss this morning instead

Feierabend · 11/02/2010 15:10

is how I looked when I came out of the meeting

Feierabend · 11/02/2010 15:14

Can someone explain ebay to me please? I am selling a pram (have never used ebay before, not even bought anything). I have 5 people watching it but no bids so far and 3 more days to go. Are they all waiting till the last minute before they put their bids in?

Or, in other words, will I ever get rid of that blessed pram?

AuldAlliance · 11/02/2010 15:34

Sorry, Fei, I know nothing about ebay. Funny coincidence that, about your having stayed here. There are some very nice houses around. Shame we can't afford one!

They are forecasting -11°C for tomorrow morning. DH will freeze to his bike and have to be peeled off it.
I have to rush to work, teach a class and then rush off to Toulouse, with Alex in the car, to fetch DS1. Not possible if there is snow on the road.

I have been really missing DS1. He drives me bonkers at times, but it's very strange without him.

Feierabend · 11/02/2010 15:47

Theirs was a little outside the village... half way up a little hill if I remember correctly. It was a few years ago Oh and the cooking! That lady could cook.

Fingers crossed it won't snow then. I bet A will be happy to have his brother back. I know Hazel loves it when we pick DD1 up from nursery!

PuzzleRocks · 11/02/2010 16:45

Hello

It looks like first steps may be imminent.

Bicnod - Ellen loves sharks too. We took her to the London Aquarium at about the same age. I need to take Holly soon. Ellen even has a poster of Great Whites on her bedroom wall. Very girly.

MrsG - Big kisses to E. I hope he is better soon.

Zulu - Which medical school? DH's brother studied at Kings. Please say it is Kings.

Gui - Excellent BA spot. And way to go H!

Bicnod - How was O's check?

Wriggly - Did you say apple crumble? I love you.

Fei - I have sold stuff where there have been no bids until the last ten minutes at which time it goes bonkers.

PuzzleRocks · 11/02/2010 16:48

Hmm. Just had a friend request on FB from Zac Goldsmith. Do I accept?

bronze · 11/02/2010 17:38

hello

sorry not been around
had another viewing today
fingers crossed
yay to sleeping babies

Feierabend · 11/02/2010 17:54

Puzzle - is it for real or is it Zac's PR?
