hello all! not sure if many/any of you remember me, i used to post on the ante-natal threads and a little on the post-natal threads too. ds2 was due nov 2008 but arrived 5 weeks early, making him an october baby. He turned 1 yesterday, hence the reason for my checking back in to see how everyone is doing! As i am sure all of our babies are he is an absolute delight and a blessing and i feel extremely emotional about him turning 1 . The year has absolutely whizzed by! He is a proficient speed crawler and a super climber, has a few teeth, smiles, waves, points and claps. oh and his only word is 'mama' . he has been poorly a lot with a couple of a&e dashes (once via ambulance) and has been diagnosed with baby asthma. he has just finished an umpteenth course of antibiotics for tonsillitis . but he is truly lovely, he has stolen my heart...

shall try to read through the most recent threads and catch up on all the news...

twinklingfairy · 07/10/2009 22:02

Just bookmarking. Been away for nearly a week visiting rellies.
My Bros DD just turn 1 and has been walking for a couple of months and babbles quite the thing, I was sure I heard her say ma me when trying to get into her mummies arms
My J now has 4 teeth and has been a little marvel throughout the break away. He seems to thrive outwith his normal enviroment.
Yet is a miserable thing when we are at my mums house??
Mind you the fact that she gets all in his face, repeats statements like 'gimme a smile then' until he gets upset then says humph, not much of a smiler that one, prob doesn't help him.
Oh dear, my mum is a star but that particular means of making a baby smile, is lost on me

Anyway. I must go read throught the thread a bit, find out where everyone is at before barging in with my mind ramblings.
I have no Idea where all that about my mum came from??

twinklingfairy · 07/10/2009 22:08

Oh, I should have refreshed. Hello zoneout
My J was 4 weeks early, a halloween baby, so I should prob be on your other thread too. But I liked it here, so here I stayed
Sorry to hear about A&E dashes, they must have been mega frightening.
We had a wee dash from Far North Scotland to Aberdeen when J was 6 weeks for a double hernia op but, once dealt with, I doubt it is as scary as an ambulance dash

[Hmm] why is J not sleeping? I can hear him on the monitor now. Not unhappy but not sleeping.
He has been ever such a good sleeper for a couple of months now.
Please god don't make him wake up all through the night, now!!
Surely 9-10 months of no sleep is enough!?

Oblomov · 07/10/2009 22:22

Evening. Nice title daisy. Just bookmarking. Can't believe they are nearly 1.

Cricri · 07/10/2009 22:30

Thanks for the new thread Daisy
Rosa I got E's bipi bibs from this seller on Ebay. They're lovely and have lasted really well despite repeated washing. They've really not faded much at all and I haven't noticed them curling up at the edges.
Ceebee Glad the op went well and you enjoyed your evening with your book!
Coolkat Sorry to hear things aren't good at work and you're feeling I also find my emotions are up and down a lot atm. I've actually found this stage harder than the newborn stage for some reason, probably because you expect certain things to be happening by now (i.e. sleeping through) and when they don't it's hard. I just try to get through the bad days as best I can knowing that the next day will probably be better. Ellielou's suggestions as far as work is concerned are good. Hope you feel better soon and glad Becca is OK after her tumble. They're very resilient aren't they! E fell off the bed 3 times whilst we were in France and I was frantic but she was fine fortunately.
Zonedout Hello! Hope DS had a wonderful birthday. Sorry to hear about the asthma though
Twinkling Glad you had a lovely time away. E also seems to thrive whenever we go anywhere, it must just be the change of scene.
Thanks for all your suggestions re getting E to take her ABs. My problem until today was that she wasn't actually having much food at all and wasn't letting me feed her, she just picked at tomatoes and strawberries. But she had a bit more of an appetite today so I tried giving her the ABs on a spoon alternating with yoghurt as Drswife suggested but still without success - she recognised the taste immediately and spat it all out. So I took Pinky's advice and rang the doctor's and they've given her another prescription. Hopefully these ABs will taste a bit better. I must admit that having sniffed them I understand why she spits them out - they smell foul!
They also seem to be knocking her out as she had a 3h nap this morning then 1.5 hours this afternoon and went to bed at her normal time. Either that or she's catching up on all the lack of sleep over the weekend!
Hello to everyone else

Ceebee74 · 08/10/2009 07:55

Hi just checking in - thanks for the new thread Daisy Zonedout lovely to hear from you and glad your DS is doing really well.

rosa Hamster still has no teeth - like Hana, I feel he will be walking before he gets teeth (and he is a long way off walking yet )

Twinkling my MIL does that 'in your face' baby thing to get them to smile - so annoying and you wonder why they can't see that the baby just wants some space

Still feeling surprisingly good - Daisy you were so right about this being a walk in the park compared to a c-section DS1 had a tantrum last night because I couldn't lift him Just wondering when I can take my 'sexy' surgical stockings off as they are really annoying me now!! Don't think I am going to lose any weight though as my appetite has returned perfectly normally and have had no adverse effects from eating yet - was kind of banking on this op to help me shift a few pounds (wrong way to look at it I know )

LadyBuzz · 08/10/2009 09:17

Hi all

coolkat sorry work is cr*p at the moment. And glad Becca is OK after her fall. It scares the life out of you!

Ceebee glad you are feeling better

Zonedout hi, good to see you.

Can't believe these babies are nearly 1, where has the time gone?

I went into work for a meeting this morning, I go back in 3 weeks and they asked me to change my hours to work over either 4 or preferably 5 days (3 hours a day ) I said no and she didn't look too happy.
I firstly couldn't afford to put the DCs in nursery 5 days it would be pointless working.
Secondly I don't want to work over 5 days, I do stuff on my 2 days off. I did put my foot down, they can't make me change as I am going back on the same hours I did before. I am a bit dissapointed as she has always been bery fair but hey ho I hate my job anyway so I will look for something else as soon as I have put my 3 months in!

Hi to anyone I have missed!

Rosa · 08/10/2009 13:33

Thanks for the bibs link - I will have a look.
hana glad we are not the only one then.MR will crawl at great spped - bounce when you hold bith hands but shows no interest iin taking any steps. She will furniture cruise though.
I also had Minirosas abs changed today she hates the original ones and can smell them out even in weetabix. So now we have more 'grainy ones but as long as the work I don't care. As for making her sleep ...please as I am on matchsticks here !
Ladybuzz well done on your work and good luck on the job hunt. It still looks pretty dire out there.
coolcat hope that today is a better day
twinking I found that when I took MR out of her routine and enviroment it took her a bit of time and she HATEs it when anybody comes up to her and speaks in a loud voice . She screams . She loves noice anything Vtech and horrbily noisy but people thats another matter ! Go in gently and she will give you huge smiles !

LatinDAISYcal · 08/10/2009 16:09

of course we remember you Happy Birthday to your DS, but sorry to hear about the asthma . DS1 was diagnosed when he was about one as well, and is mostly OK now, just has the odd bad attack when he has a particularly bad cold.

Ceebee glad you're not feeling too bad ; just take it easy though as it's easy to forget it's major surgery as the wounds are soooo small.

just popping through; trying to get to grips with knitting in the round and needed some MN help.

I'm thinking of applying for a job...it's at the university library and involves working every other weekend and typical of big organisations has a very wordy title (customer services weekend facilities assistant). The job description is a bit vague though and it says it comes with a uniform; I hope it's not a security guard!!

Pinkali37 · 09/10/2009 09:26

hello all,

Pleased to hear that most people are doing well and that our babies are growing up to be (well how do i put it?) strong minded individuals!

Esme has done so much in the past 11 months. Her main achievement would apear to be her collection of bruises on her forehead. She is pulling herself up on things and pulling things down on herself and then all over again. Despite saying that i wouldn't have child locks on my kitchen cupboards, alas, i broke last week after the flour was distributed quite beautifully over the kitchen floor.

I have discovered that my child thinks her name is ESME NO... and i am at last fed up of the sound of my own voice! However, she is the funniest little thing and has such a great sense of humour already. This year (nearly a year) has gone so fast i think i'm getting broody again!!!!

Phee96 · 09/10/2009 20:06

Just bookmarking. Will be back in a bit to catch up

tegan · 10/10/2009 06:12

hello all long time no see.

well you know what it is like having a 10 month old who is walking around and pushing everything to get about, you can't take youre eyes off them for a second.
sadly we are still not having any sleep at all which is rally hard to deal with at the mo.

i have sent a load of friends requests to people from our nov 08 fb page so if you get a request from a weird stranger it's only me.

will be back when O goes for his nap (if he has one)

Oblomov · 10/10/2009 18:41

Busy arranging birthday party for next weekend. Nothing major just a few people at home. Can't believe that this 1st year has flown by.
Haven't we all come a long way everyone ? And done such a good job. We should all be so proud.

LatinDAISYcal · 10/10/2009 19:44

hear hear obs

bumble had a mad half hour this evening....he was chgarging round the floor on his knees (think running on your knees and you can imagine what he was like) and squealing and throwing things around.....was funny, but quite worrying as he was like a thing possessed! Then ha flaked out and had to be coaxed into a bedtime feed.

feeling really odd today; forgotten my ADs for a few days and the side effects of withdrawal are very weiord indeed; like vertigo and all noises sound really charp, yet muffled if that makes any sense at all. think I need to go lie in a ddarkened room for a boit.

just wanted to check in though.

laters xx

suiledonne · 10/10/2009 19:49

Hi Daisy, hope the weird sensation passes.

Back to my old name-ish thanks to your advice.
To answer your question of some days back the wobble that caused me to delete my Mumsnet account wasn't really about Mumsnet, just me making an effort to trust my own judgement a bit more. I think I have a tendency to live my life by poll and am always asking someones opinion.

Regretted it though cos it is always good to have somewhere to go at a moments notice for some advice or support..... and I thought I would miss you guys.

twinklingfairy · 10/10/2009 20:16

Oh Goodness suiledonne I could not cope without MN!
I could never delete my account.
I never thought I would see the day when I was a chatroom junkie, but this one is just sooo good.
And, as you say, it is always good to have advice on hand from people you trust.

Oblomov I am organising a party for my wee man too.
A Halloween one, I have no choice cos he is a halloween babe. Ah well, I guess I will get used to it. I have just never been a huge fan. Haven't the imagination for outfits.

That does not sound pleasant daisy
We used to call that a 'fat madder' when our dog went loopdy loo for a bit. Running around the garden, practically side ways, she would go so fast.
Sounds a bit like what your wee bumble was up too

LatinDAISYcal · 10/10/2009 21:06

lol twinling that sums him up exactly

glad you are hanging aroud suiledonne

took my ADs and things have calmed down a bit.....flipping scary.

Oh my goodness, that young girl on Strictly! So young, but what a fantastic voice.

OP posts:
LatinDAISYcal · 10/10/2009 21:10

I never thought I'd be a chatroom junkie either! Until I stumbled on MN looking at pram reviews over four years ago I had never even looked at a chatroom. I read my first post again a few months ago and I basically barged in on a thread an pronounced my opinion in a hijacky way ; it was terribly gauche...and justifiably ignored!!

OP posts:
barbareebaa · 10/10/2009 22:01

Hello!
Glad you're feeling a bit better Daisy.. thanks for the new thread too!
What a lovely thing to write, Obs Feel quite emotional about this first birthday. What an amazing year!!
So how does one organise a first birthday party? My mum has agreed to have it at hers (no space here) Do you have an open house starting at a certain time or do you have a definite beginning and end? What about naps or do I just go with flw? Any top tips would be greatly appreciated!!
AF returned yesterday which is fab as had visions of it not returning for years since Will feeds so frequently through the night. So at least might be able to start planning next one( got dh to provisionally agree to start trying again spring next year! WOOhOO)
Hope everyones having a splendid evening. Watching Xfactor. Not really liking anyone - no leona type person to blow socks off!
