barbs wait till six months and then just do baby led weaning. gill Rapley's book is very good.

or alternatively, Annabel Karmel books are good, but you have to extract the ponciness and use your common sense.... Ask your HV for the NHS weaning leaflet and if they are running any weaning talks for first time mums.

baby rice is just thickened breast or formula milk. With DS I started on that then mixed in various veg and fruits before adding in meat from six months. Avoid gluten, eggs and meat until six/seven months and just be wary of the fact that some commercially prepared foods that are labelled suitable from 4-6 months can have dairy in them.

since DS was born I have discovered the Plum baby range. they do a four grain porridge that seems to have a bit more flavour to it than baby rice.

Good luck, emmanj, I haven't had a period since Feb but am so irregular it's not even remotely funny!

I need a book as well. Loads of my nearest and dearest are after me to load Fin up with baby rice but I want to do baby led weaning on the grounds that the blender we have is crap and I am incredibly lazy. So actually, I need a book, a chef and a nanny...

Barbs, I am going to read and read and read until something sinks in and so that I can come down hard on all the baby rice pushers in my family. I swear, if I turn my back and someone shoves a Weetabix into Finbo I will just be so cross. And they will be wearing the Weetabix.

'kay ladies, thinking caps on for new thread titles. I can't really as I have been AWOL but something that involves rolling or teeth? Gums 2 The Revenge? Have rolling, will dribble? Crap - put me to shame, purlease!

Anyway, off to bed in a bit to hide from my son under the duvet.

LackaDAISYcal · 06/04/2009 22:59

emmanj, first response can be used up to 3 days before your period is due

thread title......"rollin', rollin', rollin', though their gums are swollen, keep them babies rollin', on't side"

oh do shut up daisy

why am I still up????

barbareebaa · 06/04/2009 23:17

love that daisy!
specially the 'on't' bit - reminds me of yorkshire!
Will look up the lady you mention.
ruth i am with you on the family pressing the point a bit with the weaning - they have been trying to get me to give W babyrice since his first growthspurt!
in some respects there are advantages living a distance away!

Hi all, hope everyone is doing well. Well done to all the rolling babies! Amy can turn on to her side but doesn't quite get all the way over.

tegan I have suffered on and off with blocked ducts/sore boobs a lot this time round. I think mine is caused by doing night feeds lying down or sometimes when Amy is teething she doesn't latch on right so not emptying the boob. I find a hot shower before I feed very good. Also I saw a tip to use a clean disposable nappy filled with hot water as a compress and it does work very well to unblock things before a feed.

Weaning I am giving Amy a little bowl of food for lunch everyday now and she loves it. So far baby rice with fruit puree but going to try some carrot tomorrow. She loves her food.

We had Amy's christening yesterday and a small party at the house afterwards. More low key than dd1's was and I enjoyed it a lot more.

PinkyMinxy · 06/04/2009 23:21

Hope peolle get some sleep.

DH and I have been turning the house upside down looking for the toy bar on our P&T ass we have moved it into two seat mode. Can't find it anywhere.

Ellie, thank you for thinking of me, but I think it may be loong while before I feel better, TBH. Regarding the mirena, nI don't get on with any of the pill normally, but my GP thought this would be ok- mainloy because it should stop my awful periods, but so far I have been bleeding, lightly, since I had it ( for TMI)

Sorry I'm so glum.

barbs banana. That's what I started mine on. Prolly wrong, but they liked it!

daisy I used those Plum organics when camping when DD1 was a baby. They are the only ready made baby foods I have found that actually taste like food, aside from a very nice baby food company that my veg delivery people sold, but I can't seem to find them on their site now. Shame. They were really good- not puree, just chopped up, proper home-cooked type meals for older babies, that you couldn freeze.

ah well. Goodnight allx

suiledonn · 06/04/2009 23:21

Daisy I like your idea for the thread title.

PinkyMinxy · 06/04/2009 23:26

sorry for my typing
love the title idea, Daisy

Whoo hooo! Can my DH be elevated to Top DH Of The Week??
Guess what? He's taking the day off tomorrow, so that I can have some headspace (had none since Dec 9th!!!) I am off on 1st train out of Hicksville to do some mooching and shopping in Reading. I like Reading as it has a lot of shops I like, and it's an hour away on the train so I can do some reading en route!!

He's just said "if you don't succeed in spending lots of money tomorrow, don't feel like you've failed, I'll still take you home"! cheeky sod.

He's (in my opinion) slightly over confident about looking after all 3 boys tomorrow. Either it'll go like a dream and I'll be cross because it will belittle the nonsense I have to put up with normally and he'll think I'm just being a drama queen about how hard it is or I'll come home to 3 grumpy kids, one of which will be in the same nappy as when I left in the morning.

Not sure which one I prefer!! .

Sorry, this is very much a me me me post, but I'm v. excited! Imagine, this used to be my normal life, and now I get excited about a bit of shopping.

Night all, can feel purse twitching in bag already..

LadyBuzz · 07/04/2009 08:18

Fudge have a fab day, I'm sure you will!

Ceebee well done you on the decorating I am really crap with things like that.

Well done to all the rolling babies, Jay gets onto his side and waves his leg in the air quite comically! He also like being in the baby walker as he likes to be upright, his little legs don't quite touch the floor but he makes lovely 'wlaking' motions in the air its so funny!

Emmanj fingers crossed for you

Glad Rosa is OK

Jay has his last injections today (I think) but has woken up all wheezy again so I may get them to check him out first.
