MerryMarigold · 04/04/2009 14:46

wow ceebs, am so impressed at you cooking in advance. i haven't even thought of that . last minute merry.

ceebs to clean ds1's teeth we used to sit on the floor, lie him between legs, put one leg over his legs and clamp his arms together with one arm whilst cleaning teeth with other (from about age 1-2). Someone said they did their dog in the same way Xmas Blush. Now he is a better and has even learned to brush properly (not chew) in the last few weeks.

btw ds1 is a COMPLETE chocaholic too -today he chose green & blacks plain choc as his treat! [proud emoticon], but as it is not Easter yet, he is not allowed his egg yet. he was obedient (otherwise nasty mummy may eat it!).

MerryMarigold · 04/04/2009 14:49

ChocO, there is a 19week growth spurt. so i don't think another one, but it can last a little while.

LackaDAISYcal · 04/04/2009 15:59

choco, it is I'm afraid ! The five month growth spurt is the worst one of all!!!! but even if it isn't a growth spurt, I guess like adults some days they are hungrier than others and some days don't want much at all

londonboots · 04/04/2009 17:06

merry very impressed by your ds1!! green & blacks milk chocolate is my favourite - so delicious! have to stop having it in the house or i just eat the whole thing in one go.

choc we have a waking-up-screaming baby here too. took us by surprise because he hardly used to cry when he woke up - just moan/groan/grunt and suddenly he started howling - generally with his eyes closed, asleep, if that's possible with all the noise he makes! a few other things going on too - last week was teething with bright red cheeks (calpol worked wonders) and now has a cold. question - he has a runny nose and a few times in the last hour or so there's been a bit of blood in it...is this anything to worry about? not much, but enough that there's a streak on the muslin when we wipe his nose. my poor little darling boy .

ChocOrange05 · 04/04/2009 17:40

Damn these growth spurts!!

ceebee to answer your earlier q on the babycook (sorry DH was nagging me to pick my national horse so I had to go) it is very good - its great for us as we have a small kitchen and it doesn't take up as much space as a big steamer but the downside is you can only make quite small portions. Although as its easy to use you could make fresh every day. In conclusion - of my thorough review - its good but not neccessary!!

londonboots my DS had some blood in his snot too - as did one of my NCT chums baby's, the dr said it was probs just a burst blood vessel from sneezing etc but as with anything if you are worried go see your doc or call NHS direct (who always just say: go see your doc ).

Hi

Hope your all enjoying nice weather.

Feeling shitty here still, i've heard of 24 hour bugs but not 24 day ones!

Sorry nothing useful to say, going to bed as I am knackred, DH working all weekend and I just feel washed out.

X

MerryMarigold · 04/04/2009 20:32

much sympathy coolkat, you poor, poor thing...

misery bum made me though!

get well soooooooooon, i hope. do you have help with dh not around this w/e? your mum?

MonkeyMargot · 04/04/2009 20:52

Like the Easter Bunny emoticons! Xmas Grin

rutho good to "see" you girl.
Re guardians, we've asked my DH's sister and hubbie, as they are struggling to concieve, failing with IVF etc, and she adores C.P.

Quick ME post!
C.P rolled over today for first time, and I bloody missed it! I put her down on bathroom floor on a towel whilst I checked the water temp, and heard a "thud" - looked round to see her on her front looking around. She had narrowly missed hitting her head on the cistern - feel like a bad mother Xmas Blush

She adores sitting in her recently purchased tripptrapp highchair, and giggles when I'm eating my weetabix in front of her - so lovely when she giggles!!
She also loves being massaged - on her back and bum! She sits there like a leetle primadonna, hands neatly clasped, and groans with delight as I massage her back and juicy little bottom! lacks i can't help thinking she would like to go to Ragdale with you . So would I actually!

Had lovely day sitting in park with NCT friend, babies holding hands etc. Only slightly marred by drunk tramp wandering over to abuse us. I felt extremely vunerable, sitting on grass clinging C.P whilst drunk swore a lot. Thankfully, a chap sitting nearby wandered over and got rid of drunk. Was amazed by the protectiveness I felt.

Hana congrats on interview - I bet you enjoyed engaging your brain! I am almost looking forward to going back to work in July now.

juanitad sounds like you had a great day at work too! I wonder how our thread will evolve when half of us disappear to the dark side (of working mums). I imagine MN will be even more valuable to us then!

P.S. Had MASSEEEVE row with DH last night, both said if it weren't for C.P we'd be out of here. But has cleared air and things better today.

Honeymoonmummy · 04/04/2009 21:56

Howdydo

Thanks for advice on brushing - bought a wee toothbrush thing slash teether and W had a lovely time sucking chewing on it so a winner. Put a weeny bit of boots baby toothpaste on. All good!

merry Bless little ds So sweet!

Coolkat - hope you feel better soon x

monkey Hurah for Plum rolling and lovely massage time! Lovely description

Will is in bed - phew - is hard work atm. Am disapointed to see that there is a 19 week growth spurt as am pooped as it is, spending many a night holding him on the sofa trying not to drop off. I think I recall reading others going through this (he is 18 weeks)
On a good note he is no longer screaming in the pram - this is good! He is not being sick anymore - me and dh also felt a bit odd so maybe it was a bug or something.

So. What do you think. Have got all the parentcraft books out of library and reading about pick up/ put down blardyblah. I am in dilema. Did I make W this way - unputdownable - or is he just like this? My db phoned the other day and he was like 'is he still sleeping on you' 'is he still feeding as much' 'have you joined a group' 'is he sleeping through the night' and I felt so crap because actually I have no system and feel criticised. At the end of the day my family are a long way away and we are doing our best. I just wish I didn't feel so judged. Bah!

But apart from that!!!

barbareebaa · 04/04/2009 22:17

hanaflower I am same re: eating rubbish when tired - combination of not being arsed/ able to make somehting 'good' and the desire to have comfort. I have been trying not to buy dairymilk huge bars when I go shopping because I will eat the lot in one go. sigh
And feeling tubby is not helping.

Honeymoon I know what you mean. Am not sure either. it's a wierd thought.

LackaDAISYcal · 05/04/2009 07:10

barbs that your family are being less than supportive. some babies are velcro babies and it looks like you have one of those. It's hard but it will pass.

I think the growth spurt thing is pretty arbirtrary. DD had definate points where she had a big growth spurt with weeks in between, but bumble just seems to grow in small spurts on a daily weekly basis

and I'm going to be really insensitive now and crow about the fact that bumble slept from 11.45 to 6.15 . that's the longest spurt overnight so far...woohoo. I'm not flattering myself that it'll happen again soon though!!!

cricri · 05/04/2009 08:40

In the midst of a growth spurt or something here too - I've lost track of the number of times E has woken up during the night for the past two nights. Somebody pass me the matchsticks!
I went out last night for dinner with my NCT friends (first night out without the babies and we'd arranged to go out early because of all my problems with E in the evenings. She didn't even last as long as she normally does - I ended up going home at 9pm because DH texted to say she wouldn't stop crying. Of course as soon as I got home and fed her she promptly fell asleep. I'm beginning to find this evening thing really, really wearing and I'm hoping that the cluster feeding tails off as the solids increase. Apologies for me post!
Barbs I totally agree with what Daisy says, some babies are just like that and it looks like you and I ended up with the velcro ones. I also find it difficult to explain to people (especially those without DCs) that E only sleeps in a sling and that we co-sleep as I feel I'm being judged. Fortunately I know from MN that I'm not alone and that really helps.
Hana Hope you get the job. I must admit I really enjoy combining work and looking after E - it's the best of both worlds But I'm very fortunate to have a job which allows me to work from home as otherwise it would be a dilemma.
Choc I've just ordered a Babycook as Mothercare have 10% off at the moment. Friends who have them swear by them.
Rutho Good to see you Hope you had a lovely day at the park.
Wills - DH and I have asked my sister and BIL to look after E should anything happen to us. Haven't updated our will yet though Must do that - along with the 1001 other things on my list!
Monkey E rolled over in exactly the same way you describe in the bathroom last week! She hasn't done it again since though. She also likes being massaged and grins when I rub the oil into my hands. One day last week she started grinning when I was rubbing handcream into my hands as she thought I was about to give her a massage - she's obviously made the connection!
Sorry to hear about the row with your DH but glad you got things sorted out.
Merry Is your DS still infatuated with his egg? He sounds so cute!
Coolkat Hope you're feeling a bit better today, it's horrible being ill and having DCs to look after.
Hello to everybody else and hope you have a lovely Sunday

coolkat · 05/04/2009 09:03

Morning ladies,

Sorry about my last miserable post! Just reread it though and there were a few puns in it!! The things you write when you are tired!

Feeling a bit brighter today despite having a monster who has decide o move into my stomach [bhhm] My god its growling and groaning. On a brighter note I don't feel sick for the first time since last monday, so if the diaorea will go I can start to eat a bit more today I started in 10st 7 and am now 10st 1. Not a good way to diet though as I have been feeling rank and am so washed out.

Wow Daisy hope you feel refreshed after your logest stretch. x

Crici Sorry you had to some home early, I hope the cluster feeding improves once E likes more food. X

Barbs sory your still having a mare, it will past. X

Merry thanks for your good wishes, any more thoughts on your mums offer or alternatives? No I have no one to help me whilst DH at work. Mum and MIL to wrapped --up- in own lives busy to offer. I suppose cause I am not laid up in bed they don't realise how washed out I feel.

Monkey, sorry for you and your DH argument. Hope ts cleared the air and now things are fine again.

Right need shower and to hang the washing out. DD1 still in bed! X

Rosa · 05/04/2009 15:11

Coolcat its about time you got rid of that bug !!
Well the christening went well despite mini rosa being a pain at the start of the day and screaming when we got to the church. She then quietened down during the service and tried to eat the preists thumb when he touched her mouth. DD1 was a star all day and totally exhausted .It was lovely just having all the family here from the UK and to think I have to wait 3 montsh to see them again its tough. Everybody leaves on Monday so things will be a bit quiet round here.
Went for a lovely lunch today in a square and its warm enough for outside eating and I had ' proper help' so I could relax !
I am now going to go back and read what I have missed...Skimmed and saw another growth spurt ..oh no something to look forward to and we have injections on Tuesday !

tegan · 05/04/2009 16:37

sorry if tmi but my boobs really hurt today.

I have loads of hard lumps and even if i try to express hardly anything comes out.

O is gutsing his feeds as if i am never going to feed him again, he had 9oz for breakfast. been looking for a highchair for O but not sure which kind to get. really like tripptrapp but would like one with a tray for when O has finger foods

Honeymoonmummy · 05/04/2009 19:23

Tegan I'm sorry to hear that, I don't know what to suggest apart from to feed as much as possible? There doesn't seem to be anyone around today, maybe start a new thread?

LackaDAISYcal · 05/04/2009 19:49

for cricri and barbs, if people ask how well bumble sleeps, I just smile sweetly and say "like a baby" and if asked if baby is "good", just say "well he is a baby; they're not really good or bad are they?" It tends to shut people up and doesn't give them an opening to be judgey

tegan, sounds like blocked ducts. Try the cold cabbage leaves, they really do work. It should hopefully pass in a day or two, but if your feel yourself getting fluey and feverish or notice any red lines on your boobs you may need antibiotics.

We have been doing stuff in the garden this weekend. We have a gravel bed about 200mm wide along the side of the house and it is full of nasty grey gravel, with lots of weeds and scabby plants growing in it. Today I grubbed out all the gravel, then dug up all the weeds, put down weedkiller, then sand, membrane and some new pebbles and it has made the house look sooo much better. Next job is to repaint the garage door and surrounds as the paint is all flaky and horrible. DH and his mate did lots of grunty stuff, moving slabs and demolishing raised beds so I can now actually get the pram down the side of the house and into the back garden.

bumble in bed since 7.30...here's hoping for another good night.

juanitad · 05/04/2009 20:22

ceebee, you have inspired me to get cooking! This weekend I've made and frozen some potato, carrot, apple and sweet potato - I'm doing the puree thing, plus finger foods, love the idea of BLW, but not massively confident about it so purees it is!! I am really looking forward to weaning (there speaks a naive first-time mum!), I'm hoping to wait till he's 26 weeks, so still 7 to wait! He's waking up loads in the night at the moment, but I'm putting that down to, yes you've guessed it, a growth spurt, as he isn't showing any other signs of being ready for solids.

We've asked bro and SIL to be P's guardians. Like MonkeyM, they are struggling to conceive, 2 failed rounds of IVF and it's not looking like it's ever going to happen for them. They would do a brilliant job with P, I would have no worries on that score. Rutho, I'm glad you brought that up, as we still haven't got round to making a will, and we really should get on with it.

Hope all those with older DCs survive enjoy the first day of the hols!

Evening all, just quickly popping in to say hi. Just got back from my hen weekend in Brighton, it was fab but i soooo can't do 2 nights out in a row these days!
Was nie to wake up naturally in my own time though!

Hope evryones well, will find time to cathc up on the posts later, so much happens when your away for a couple of days!

ellielou02 · 05/04/2009 20:55

Hello
cricri that your first evening out with NCT ended quickly, hopefully she is going through a growth spurt and you can try again when she is not going through one.
Hana good luck for the job, I know what you mean about cloning yourself I am going back to work in August but only for 1 day a week and only for 3 months then I am giving up my job to be at home, as DH works away a month at a time we decided it would be better than paying someone to look after my dd's for nothing the month he is home IYSWIM, I know we are very lucky that we can do this and feel that DH being away for a month is a big enough sacrafice, but I do enjoy my job and got my degree last year, so I am going to try and "bank nurse" when DH is home then hopefully get the best of both worlds.
coolkat hope you feel better soon, have you been to the docs??
tegan I dont know too much about bf as only did it for the first 6 weeks with both dd's but have you tried massaging your boobs in circular motions down towards the nipple, I did this when I was engorged a few times and it did ease a bit, to wean myself off the boob i cut out a feed at a time would leave it a few days then cut out another feed, hope you feel more comfortable soon.
rosa glad your christening went well, you must miss your family when they go.
I would like to ask a question I am having a problem with millie she wont take a feed from anyone else, I dont know if its because dh is away and I am always with her but getting hair done on tues and she is going to MIL I dont think she will need a bottle as she has lunch now and is refusing that bottle now anyway but has anyone got and hints?? I have tried leaving the room while someone else tries but she just wont take it.
I have been feeling a bit down this weekend think its because dh has been away now for 4 weeks and still one to go but my mum phoned the other day and I ended up crying on the phone to her saying I was lonely etc, I think I made her feel bad then I felt bad for that, I am a bit pissed off to be honest as when my sis had my niece I had her alot to give her a break and when my BF had her kids I would take them out to give them a break but no one has said to me do you want a break sorry went on a bit of a rant there.
Good on you with the DIY daisy, I have been spring cleaning today.

PinkyMinxy · 05/04/2009 21:04

Hello all
Sorry you are feling poo still, coolkat.

Mimi had major 5 month growth spurt and now she can roll onto her side, pull herself upwards if lying back, and go 'booboo' and blow raspberries. Not sure how she is going to apply all these new skills, but she's definitely very pleased with herself!

She has a tripp trapp on order, hopefully it will come tomorrow. Offered her some carrot today and she looked at me as if I was nuts.

Re-working- I definitely think flexible part time is the best of both. I loved having part time work, but would rather be doing my own thing for the work bit. No more project work for me, I think.

I am off to indulge in some sling shopping. DH said we can have a new wrap sling woohoo.

Went to the seaside yesterday, had a fabbo time. Hope everyone has had a good weekend.

LackaDAISYcal · 05/04/2009 21:18

oh cricri, sorry your evening was cut short . Hopefully she will settle soon.

ellie, sorry you are feeling glum. It must be really hard having to do it all on your own for weeks on end and having had DH away a lot, it was always towards the end of it that things felt a bit overwhelming. no advice on the bottles sorry, but maybe if you aren't there she will take the bottle OK from your MIL? fingers crossed xx

emmanj....when you taking that test?????

hana, have you had any news re your undercarriage issues? did your tests come back yet?
