BDQ, thanks for asking, getting on really well with the nappies. My flexitots haven't arrived yet so I don't have enough nappies to manage all the time, but I'm using them at home.

The bumgenius are great, and dry sooo quickly, so I'm thinking I might send some of my flexitots back (when they arrive!) and ordering some more BG. I can then use flexitots for times when I need more absorbency but BG all the rest of the time.

Still need to make up my wipe box as modelled by the lovely Essie too!

Morning all, thanks for starting new thread sponge. Glad you're getting on well with your nappies so far!

Question for Londonladies- do you know anywhere that does car seat hire? We're off to London this weekend, staying in town for a couple of days then off to the suburbs to visit a friend. Arranged for said friend to pick us and all of our assorted crap up on Saturday but realised they don't have a car seat! Dont really want to carry our car seat on the train as will have tons of stuff anyway.

Need to run and start housework for p's visiting. Have a good day everyone.

debinaustria · 08/11/2008 09:19

Welcome to your new home!!!

Great title sponge, wonder if we'll get any visitors from the militants on the weaning thread!!!!

hope everyone is ok this morning - how are you g43, paro?

i had a lie in, well actually dh, ethan and i had a lie in until 9.00, boys had got up and watched a dvd

debinaustria · 08/11/2008 09:21

there must be somewhere as when we were filming the tv company had hired them for us. i suppose you could try a car hire company, but don't know if they'd do it without the car!

Parofleurmapu · 08/11/2008 09:25

Good Morning all!

Love the thread title fab!!!

Talking of which I cant resist a dare so ive posted on weaning thread re flavoured rice etc!!!hehe. SO whinegums here you are Vanilla flavoured baby rice and the rest!! Debs i expect you to post please!

Thanks for nice comments and tips on BF, I hoped to continue with at least one feed a day 7am as long as poss, so going to still try, not going to give up yet . Ill start expressing again that should help no? and that way i can use it in fleurs food too.

Question re formula We had been using Nestle Nidina but the price went up and the other day at our local supermarket they didnt have any. As we had run out and really needed some we used HIpp Organic, now Fleur really seems to like this better and takes far more even polishing of 7 8 oz which is rare. So I is it good? And can you get it many supermarkets in England? Cause when we come over at Xmas we will need to get some FF, think we would have had probs getting the nestle

Also they do Hero Good night milk Anyone use such a FF a night?

Ok off to do some housework urrrggh will check in again later

spongebrainbigpants · 08/11/2008 09:30

BDQ, is this any good:

hiring car seats

Deb, I do hope we do - they'll all pile over from the weaning threads to smack our collective wrists!

Just came back in from the kitchen to find Alex about five feet away from where I left him - he's clearly learnt to roll over and over to move himself ! Oh dear - time to start child proofing the house !!

Hehe sponge x posted thats where i got mine from!!!

Ooh clever alex!! Watch out!!

spongebrainbigpants · 08/11/2008 09:34

Paro, yes you can get Hipp Organic stuff here.

Love your weaning thread btw, have posted on it!

OP posts:
spongebrainbigpants · 08/11/2008 09:36

Paro, you and I keep x-posting!!

Yes, have to say he looked very pleased with himself - lying on his tummy just looking up at me with this massive grin on his face, little monkey!

OP posts:
spongebrainbigpants · 08/11/2008 09:42

Btw, has anyone noticed that subtle Harry Potter reference in the thread title? Or is it just me that's an HP nutter?!

OP posts:
Parofleurmapu · 08/11/2008 09:43

Hehe!

I actually quite like the taste of the vanilla stuff bit like custard!!

Fleur hates being on her tummy except on our bed where she rolls over and over. Think we are going to get big carpet for sitting room for her to lay on. As no carpets here all tiled floors Something else i miss from england not only cows but carpets!!!

hedgehog1979 · 08/11/2008 09:45

Morning all,

Apparently even when DH was an actual scout he never learnt to sew his badges on and used.........Super Glue. I can't understand how MIL let him do that being that she was at one point his Scout leader . I refuse to let him do that as I don't know what it would do to the washing machine, so I shall attack them this evening.

Loving the new thread title, even though I haven't started yet. I think Isaac will be going for drinks first, yesterday I lost my pepsi can (other soft drinks are available) and tea mug, which he was sucking the rim off. (both were almost empty at the time).

I will 'fess up....I had 6 months off work sick this time last year with depression/nervous breakdown (at 27 ) and did NOTHING so am making up for it this year. I literally sat in the house watching daytime TV, or stayed in bed watching DVD's so the change from then to now is enormous, and my boasting on here makes me realise how far I have come.

BDQ do you have a travel system which you can attach your car seat too? I am getting the train to Somerset in December and am taking Isaac in car seat on train as I will need it at mum and dads, but my SIL has 3 pushchairs so won't actually need a pushchair while we are there

Was going to walk into town this am, but weather here is attrocious so may stay in and go for a LOTR marathon .

Off to look for the weaning thread now

hedgehog1979 · 08/11/2008 09:47

how did I x post with so many people?

SBBP our thread title or the weaning one Confused

debinaustria · 08/11/2008 09:49

Paro - I have added to your other thread

HH - Wow, you are doing amazingly well, especially considering what you went through last year. You are definitely a superwoman.

hedgehog1979 · 08/11/2008 09:49

SBBP ignore that I have just got it.

Not only me who is HP obsessive, I have them on ipod as talking books for Isaac after his proper story, he has that on until we go to bed, and one of his first DVD's we watched was HP 5, although V*&^%$£"t (he who must not be named) did seem to scare him

Parofleurmapu · 08/11/2008 11:16

Good on you HH you are sounded fab now xx
And i cant sew either! Was giggling
bout your DH and superglue cause when i was in school i had awful trousers so i cut up the sides to make them flared, not allowed!! One day we had an inspection so i stapled the sides up so head wouldnt notice!!

Neenztwinz · 08/11/2008 12:20

By the time I read all the posts since I last posted I have forgotten what I want to say!

Paro, yeah expressing will help your supply. I am expresing as much as poss and adding it to food cos I am sure they are not BFing as much as before. They don't seem interested!

Sponge, interesting what you say about Bumgenius. I am using onelife, terries and totsbots and love them but my SIL ordered some Onelife and only used them once and said they were too bulky [so what? emoticon]. Now she has ordered some Bumgenius so will be interesting to see how she gets on (her DS is 19 weeks old already). I think she doesn;t really want to use real nappies but feels she has to cos I have twins in them!

Neenztwinz · 08/11/2008 12:22

Yeah, the weaning militia will probably be on here son cos they will be counting... 'June to November = only five months !!!!

spongebrainbigpants · 08/11/2008 12:34

HH, good for you! Pulling yourself out of depression is very hard and you have done brilliantly - esp coping with a newborn too. A real supermum!

Neenz, lol at your SIL feeling the pressure to use real nappies cos you have twins in them!! I have two friends with twins in real nappies and it did make me realise it's perfectly doable with one! Don't know the Onelife range. I might change my mind about BG when my FTs arrive but I have heard that BG are very popular amongst mums who are not fully sold on the idea of real nappies!

Yes, the thread title was deliberately provocative cos I get so sick and tired of the bloody smugness of some of the mums on here.

Right, off to order some of that chocolate flavoured food . . . .

OP posts:
spongebrainbigpants · 08/11/2008 12:35

Sorry, meant the mums on Mumsnet, not the mums on this thread!

OP posts:
Parofleurmapu · 08/11/2008 12:45

Sponge - Weve had the first smug comment on the weaning thing! I think Hipp do some nice stuff actually (at least i think its ok) no sugar additives etc. Ive given some to Fleur cause sometimes with a manic day cant make something and think there is a nice selcyion not sure bout chocolate and biscuits though!!

Neenz- thats why i thought it was over cause she doesnt seem to BF as long and seems to be hungry quicker so ive had to top up with FF at breakfast. Going try to go back to expressing everyday at least once even if its just to add to food

Saying that today she was ok and lasted from7 am to 11 am on BF and my apple raisin puree, which i dont recommend!! Looks like s**t and im sure thats what will pour out other end!! but she seemed to like it except it had bits in pos the raisin skins, can you peel raisins!!!?

Neenztwinz · 08/11/2008 13:18

I have just burned esther with food that was too hot!!! Can;t really say how hot cos it was hot food that I took out of the pan and mixed with colder food already in the bowl and I think when I put it to my lips it was cool but mixed in there must have been some hotter stuff . She screamed and there were proper tears. She had a good old BF and didn't go down well for her lunchtime nap so I fed her to sleep and now she has been asleep for 15 mins so can't be in that much pain(?). She kept sticking her tongue out, bless her., it must have been scalded. I hope she is OK!

HH well done for coming out the other side of depression. I watched the Alistair Campbell programme a bit ago about breakdowns and it was an eye-opener. I almost felt sorry for him but then remembered what as arsehole he is

katyjo · 08/11/2008 14:09

Paro I meant to say I was only feeding Mia once a day between formula feeds and she only seemed to feed for about 10 mins so I didn't think she was taking much, but when I stopped she increased the amount of formula per day by about 6/7oz so she must have been getting plenty. I think they can feed alot quicker from you than from a bottle because of the let down.
I fed ds until he was a year and I was only feeding before and after work, I think your body is pretty good at adjusting to their needs.

Neenztwinz · 08/11/2008 14:58

That's really interesting katyjo. I was wondering the same thing (how much they take from each BF). I have read that they still need 18-28fl oz of milk (BF or FF) at this age and I worry cos mine are feeding for what seems like a short time and when I express I only get about 4oz in 10 mins, but they must be getting loads more than that when they suck.

I always joked that i would express milk even after babies were fully weaned because of the calorie-burning and I have to confess I am pumping as much as poss now cos I want my body to keep making that much milk and burning all those calories!! (I am back to pre-preg weight now without really trying). When I am sat expressing I think what a pain in the bum but then I think well it's better than 10 mins on a treadmill .

G43, my mum had four kids and said the transition from two to three was very hard, harder than from three to four! Hope you get your dishwasher sorted. I wouldn't want to live without one either!

Esther has survived the scalding incident. She slept for over an hour (usually has 45 mins) and then had the rest of her lunch (I made sure it was very cool this time!) so I think she has forgotten about me burning her! I was scared she might never let me put a spoon in her mouth again.
