I ladies thought I would start this..

I cant believe they are starting to and are going to be turning one.. This year has flown over.. I miss being pregnant. But i love watching lee playng with his older brother and sister, it always makes me smile.
I love the fact that he is now playing properly , will go to his toy box pull himself up and see what he wants to play with.. normally after throwing everything round the front room first..No such thing as a tidy room in this house.. How do people do it.

Potty training is still a no go. We sit her on the toilet, but it's a game. She doesn't seem to have any awareness of when she's weeing or pooing... in fact I never even notice any change in her... until we smell it. Maybe I'm giving her too much fruit If I cut her back she might have to strain a bit, then we'd notice.
If she does a wee in the bath she looks all surprised, and we've had poo's in the bath which seem to have freaked her out.
The other night DD was in the bath, DP was folding washing on the landing and watching her through the crack in the door. He heard "Daddy, Daddy... Daddy!" He said it must have been 5 seconds and she'd poo'd she seemed to have no warning at all.

I'm not too worried, it'll come. I find it hard because I'm at work full-time though. Summertime she can play in the garden nappy free and hopefully that might help.

I think a lot of the other people from here are on baby no.2, so busy with them rather than work. I'm waiting till September for that... and for DP to come round to the idea

You're very restrained to have resisted trying for baby number 2! I was so broody within no time after my DD.

My DD's poo are very soft too. I think she has too much fruit as well.

I can't wait until Summer in the hope it makes potty training easier as well.

I've been very very broody for a long time, but didn't really have much choice. I got a new job in 2008, but it was a temporary contract. They've always said it would be made permanent but I had to have been there a year. They've Just done it... in fact I don't even have the paperwork yet.
Until it was permanent I couldn't afford to risk getting pregnant. I'm not well paid anyway, and with DP being a SAHD every penny matters. I could probably earn more, but I love my job, and that matters more to me.
Unfortunately the job is only part time, so I do one shift a week on my old job to take me up to full time hours and a (just) liveable wage.

I've been longing for summer today too. We spent the afternoon in the park, and I could picture a nice picnic, some crochet, and DD happily playing away all day long while I enjoyed the sunshine.

B - Didn't realise your partner was a SAHD. It's better to do something you love than be miserable but rolling in money. I think that way too.

I keep dreaming of summer hols. I wish! With the state of my bank account

Off to see Fireman Sam at cinema this morning with just my big girl My little boy is having some time with FIL.

I've not tried taking DD to the cinema yet. I don't think she'd handle sitting still for that long. She likes films, musical one anyway, but she keeps wandering off to do other things while they're on too.

We had a lovely Mummy & Daughter day yesterday. We went to a toddler music session, she clung to me and refused to join in. Unfortunately that's normal, she's painfully shy when we're in a group, but I've got to get her used to it before September or she'll be a wreck when she goes to nursery. Then we spent the afternoon gardening. It's great exercise for me as B is quicker at trampling than I am at digging. I've had to strategically place logs and things to stop her trampling down my favourite plants which are just starting to emerge.

I know what you mean about summer hols. MIL has booked for us all to go away in September, but we still have to somehow save up the money to get there.

She does get a little fidgety but a big box of popcorn seems to do the trick She peeps over chairs and says hello to people behind. Lots of other children also stand up, sit down etc in movie though, so I try not to worry too much.

She's obsessed with princesses as well So I feel I will spend a lot of time watching Disney's over the years!

Sound so sweet helping with gardening. I don't have a garden being in a flat. Team work by mum and DD Good for her too having lovely fresh air.

My DD doesn't know the meaning of the word shy, I can imagine though that it can be very tricky for you though I think the guilt would be excruciating if my DD was shy and I had to leave her at nursery. Hope the nursery staff and you find a good plan to help her integrate in successfully.

My mum is over later, haven't seen her for 7 weeks as she's been away. My mum and dad go away in a campervan for weeks at a time. Alright for some! Can't wait to see her. Sad woman aren't I...

DD potty training too with mixed success. Some days/weeks she does really well with hardly any accidents then others really badly - no success at nursery on Tues . I've lost track of how long we've been trying!!

We havent tried the cinema either. Never seem to be able to organise ourselves enough to go to a kids club showing on a saturday morning, or when we can, it isn't something I want to take her to. Oh well.

The weather was lovely today! My DD is great at wee's on potty now but still hopeless about poos I keep putting her back into Huggies Pull Ups still

3 accidents again a nursery today despite them keep asking her. The real pain is that she was doing it all fine in September when we went on holiday, but got an upset tummy so we put her back in nappies. Then DH convinced me that she wasn't actually ready, so I left her in them. Bah - what did he know!!!

Oh well - guess just got to keep perseverance - we'll get there in the end.

Weather still nice here, although a bit colder the last couple of days. Hope weather still good for everyone else.

My DD has finally mastered potty training! Still wears pull ups for night time though for now! I used bribery in the end

Glad your DD finally mastered potty training. DD has too. I'm afraid I did tell dh that we should have pushed on thru, (and anyone else who would listen)! At least we're there now. She is dry most nights too, but after 3 wet beds in a row, managed to talk her into wearing pull ups at night, for the moment. Threats that she wouldn't be able to go camping did it for us!

We went away the first May b/hol w'end and she just cracked it. Still the odd accident at nursery, but I can live with that - as long as I don't have to keep washing floors - getting a little large for being on my hands and knees too much. Have just had a week camping too and no accidents at all while we were away - woohoo!

Finished work last Tuesday, so now looking forward to a couple of days this week with DD in nursery, and being able to catch up on a few jobs and sleep! DC2 due in just over 4 wks, and feel like we have tons to do still. My parents are coming to visit in 2 1/2 weeks and currently spare room is a dumping ground.

Hello Ladies! I had no idea this thread was still active, but great to read everyone's news! My nickname used to be Catstar. My DS is 16 months now so I have two toddlers at the moment - he is giving DD a run for her money on the tantrums! Orlena is well, but we have had concerns about her and she's being observed etc to see if she is autistic. She shows many of the typical traits and has selective mutism, so life is a bit tough for her sometimes.

Hope to see some of you on here for a chat. Melissa - how are you feeling? When's the due date? A 3 year age gap sounds much more sensible than my 19 month one .

My gap is 17 months between my 2 DCs, I'm on a lovely antenatal thread for him I've recently joined. Sorry to hear about Orlena Sweet Talkin

3 yrs is more sensible I agree It's very exciting though! Are you nesting like mad now?

My DD is still having days where she wets herself a lot as she forgets as she's playing, today was one of those But on the whole she's ok.

Hi SweetTalking, congrats on no2. Sorry to hear about Orlena.
My godson is autistic and now 14 (that makes me feel old!). He has managed to go through main stream school and whilst you can tell there is something not quite right, he is fairly communicative. His mum and dad have worked very hard to find the right things that work for him (routine is a huge part of this), and have been in touch with some good support groups. I think he is also on a diary and wheat-free diet, which was recommended by his consultant, and showed massive improvements very quickly. Whilst it was a pain for his parents initially, as their DD has coeliacs (sp?) it has actually worked out easier having all the family on the same diet. I can find out some of the support groups or sites where they got their info from if you like.

Due date is 14th July. I am feeling tired and very sorry for myself today. I have a stinking cold and can't take anything for it! Oh well - DD at nursery today and tomorrow, so I had a little (2 hr) snooze after DH and DD left the house this morning! Felt much better, but tired again after varnishing two doors. Only 3 more to go (might do one tonight then the others tomorrow).

I don't feel like I am nesting yet, as still far too much to do since our extension was finished. At least have crib and cot built now, and DD has settled well into her new bedroom. Just need to order mattresses for the crib and moses basket, do 3 baskets of ironing, and put another mountain of clothes away, change all the bedding, make tea, and I'll have all my jobs finished for the day. Somehow don't think it will all get done!

The invites have gone out for DD's 3rd b'day party , but how have the numbers gone up from the 4 that I wanted to invite, to 20 (not including adults)? DH doesn't think just cooking sausages on the BBQ is good enough for a kids party so I have to do sarnies, sausages, sausage rolls, fairy cakes, jelly and ice cream (which he promised DD even though she doesn't like jelly) plus veggie stuff, and the usual nibbles. Not least make 3 b'day cakes within a week as DD, FIL and DM b'days all within a few days (and give birth too)... think I may have to put my foot down or delegate! Not sure anyone else can do the last item on the list for me though!!!

Melissa, belated Congratulations. Hope everything is going well for you.

SweetTalkin - Any news on Orlena? It can take ages to get a diagnosis but hopefully you're getting lots of support anyway. I'm a SALT assistant for adults with learning disabilities. I spend most of my time making pictorial timetables for people and communication books/keyrings so that if they can't speak, or are difficult to understand then they can point to what they are trying to say instead. Saves a lot of frustration. If you need any advice feel free to ask. Not that I'll necessarily be able to help, but I'll do my best.

B has started at nursery now. She was a couple of week later than everyone else because we went on holding to the Isles of Scilly and stayed on the island she was named after. She loved it! Now we just have to save up, not buy any treats, or holidays and maybe we'll be able to go back in a couple of years.

We'd just about got potty training sussed before we went away, but due we put her back in pull ups while we were away because we were driving a lot when we were camping, and she always falls asleep in the car. We took the potty, but she just gave up, she didn't use the toilet once in 2 weeks. She was due to start nursery 2 days after we got back home and we thought we'd have to delay it but they said to send her in. She had 3 accidents the first week and touch wood she seems to have got it.
Even better is she was still wearing nappies at night but they've been dry for the past week. We forgot to put one on last night and no accident!
So in a week we seem to have gone from wearing nappies to being dry day and night!
I've got masses of nappies and pull-ups spare.

On a less positive note she seems to have given up on sleeping through. She wakes every night shouting for us and one of us ends up in with her. We're shattered.

Hello I joined this thread very late. My DD still wears pull ups at night and still has accidents at pre school regularly so feeling very of you My DD doesn't start Nursery until January here. How is yours finding nursery? I often wonder how my DD will adjust to it after such a lovely pre school.

Has Melissa had her baby? Be lovely to hear what she had and how things are.

I've still not totally plucked up courage to leave off the nappy at night, she's been ill this week so we've been having accidents at night again, but I have bought some bed mats. I turned into evil Mummy for a couple of days though so thankfully her sleeping is back on track now and we're all feeling much happier.

Don't fret too much about the nappy thing, I've spoken to so many people who say it just suddenly clicks.

B is Loving nursery! Which is a huge relief. DP sorry DH, (we only got married this year, I can't get used to it) is a stay at home Dad so B has only done playgroups when I've had days off and she's always really clingy so I was worried she wouldn't settle. By the 3rd day of going she was putting her rucksack on at 7:30. We live across the road from the school, so she spent most of the next hour looking out of the window waiting for the teachers & children to arrive.
We've been invited to go over next week to talk to the teacher and see how she's settling in.
Our first parents evening. That's another of those life events that suddenly makes me feel like a grown-up.

Will you DD be going to nursery with any of the children from her pre-school?

Yes I think so

It's a relief to hear that yours settled into nursery well, so sweet that she peeps out the window to see everyone arriving.

Parents evening? Now that I will find odd when it comes round

We went to the parents evening. I've heard so many times about how children can be very different in school to at home, but I was still quite surprised.

They said she prefers solitary play, and art, that wasn't surprising. But when I asked about her speech and whether they had any concerns, they said well, we don't really know, she's so quiet we're always a bit taken aback when she does speak. Apparently she says the occasional word but when they prompt her for more she clams up. When asked questions she'll either not answer, or point.
They do a lot of circle singing games and she joins in with the actions but won't sing.
They assumed she was quiet at home. I assured her she was very loud, always singing and talking to herself and that she'd learnt the songs they were singing because she'd taught me some new ones.

I'm hoping that now they realise she is bright, and has learnt the things that they're doing and they'll encourage her to speak a bit and get over her shyness. I know she's shy, but I thought she'd have got to know them by now and started talking!
