I ladies thought I would start this..

I cant believe they are starting to and are going to be turning one.. This year has flown over.. I miss being pregnant. But i love watching lee playng with his older brother and sister, it always makes me smile.
I love the fact that he is now playing properly , will go to his toy box pull himself up and see what he wants to play with.. normally after throwing everything round the front room first..No such thing as a tidy room in this house.. How do people do it.

Hope everyone is ok.. speak soon

Thanks very much Justabout. I am aiming for the 13 week scan and will then start thinking about how to cope!!! I already have lots of questions, but it's very early days yet....

2+1 - very impressed that Lee is standing!

MMN - forgot to say how lovely the weeding pics are!

Hand, foot and mouth was a very short lived concern - dismissed by the doc - hurrah!!

Tomorrow we have a Teddy Bears picnic at the nursery, but I've just checked the weather forecast and it doesn't look good .

Have a great weekend everyone!

MelissaM · 21/06/2008 20:31

Evelyn is walking!!! Aargh - I really have to baby-proof the house. She also climbed up the stairs whilst dh was meant to be watching her . I had to dash out of the bathroom to pull her through the babygate as she was rattling it. At least dh has finally put up the gate at the bottom of the stairs.

Catstar glad you lo is ok. Hope you had better weather than us today and that the teddy bears picnic wasn't a wash out.

twoplusone · 22/06/2008 08:15

Thats great the evelyn is walking, is hse our first walker!!!

I think Lee will be quicker than Scott did, Scott was 16months!!. each day Lee is getting steadier. And each day he hates been confined more and more, be it in his walker, pushchair, carseat. He is happy to be in his play pen for alittle bit..

Takce care everyone

hooray for Evelyn!

Minimeep had her first proper fall - she was cruising using a wicker stool and her feet slipped smashing her chin into the stool. I wasn't there but dh said it was horrible to see her in pain - he said she looked so shocked, flapped her arms up and down and opened her mouth in a silent wail while blood trickled out !

Bur she's fine - she wouldn't let me check her teeth - so I gave her something to eat and she chewed away happily so I don't think there was lasting damage - she probably just cut the inside of her lip - poor wee thing!

But the best news is that SHE SLEPT ALL NIGHT!!! Hooray - touch wood that it continues!

Hello to Miaou!

Catstar - Congratulations! I am so pleased for you. Wow! you must be so excited.

Took DS to be measured for shoes on Friday and he screamed the place down! Felt really embarrassed because I really haven't put shoes on him until now! Does everyone else put shoes on their LO? AM I the only mother that hasn't? Anyway, left very red faced as he continued to scream the place down! Maybe try again next week!

DS very mobile! Gets very frustrated when I try and change him and always wants to be on the go! Love him, love him, love him!

JennsterSlugSlayer · 23/06/2008 12:23

No shoes here. Well not proper ones. DS has those leather elasticated ones to keep his toes warm and socks on. Not going to bother either until he is walking properly. Physio advised not to bother with crawlers either. Only reason dd got them was because her feet were too small for proper shoes.

JennsterSlugSlayer · 23/06/2008 12:26

DS has these

madmarriedNika · 23/06/2008 12:55

Meep- poor minimeep- hope she's all ok and hope she's still sleeping through the nights?! The start of never-ending accidents eh.... Remember DS having permanent bruises on his head for about a year!! now he just has permanent bruises all over his shins, arms etc.-wish he'd realise that he really can't fly!!

MFO- I recall that stage only too well - the not wanting to lie down ever stage- lots of bribing with interesting items while chaging nappies ensued, e.g. my necklaces, bottles of moisturiser... anything at hand that was usually forbidden!!! the novelty would keep DS distracted long enough to change him, just about....

Mairi is also not in shoes, except like justabout soft leather shoes- main purpose to keep her socks on and feet above freezing. Plus to give her some grip as if socks only she has no hope except to slide everywhere on our floors!

I didn't put DS into proper shoes until he'd been walking for 2 months (it was summertime so he was mainly barefoot inside and in our garden). They are so darn expensive I'm hoping it'll be a few months before DD needs them!! xx

meep · 23/06/2008 13:41

well.........I don't think minimeep slept through last night, but I certainly did! DH tells me that he got up once or twice (taking male exageration into consideration - that means once!) to rub her tummy - but I slept through it all . I think the last 2 weeks of night wakings have caught up with me.

Lol at your ds MFO! Minimeep has worn soft shoes (similar to jennsters) for quite a while - mainly to keep her socks on. It drives her nuts! her favourte past time is getting her socks off and eating them! Though as her legs get longer and she gets bendier she can now get her whole leather clad foot in her mouth whilst in her car seat!

Another tip for nappy changing is to play peekaboo. I put something over dd's face and it talkes her a while before she takes it off to say boo! I can usually get through a whole nappy change/post bath drying whilst doing this!

Her latest cuteness is saying "uh-oh"!

meep · 23/06/2008 13:41

good grief my spelling is horrendous today - sorry ladies!

Myfairone · 24/06/2008 11:31

Jennster - Thanks for showing me those, I went and got him some just like that yesterday (Well, not lemon giraffe ones of course!!!!). I bought him soft leather ones that look like football boots with a 7 on them! so cute!!!! Going to attempt to put them on him tomorrow.

You have all made me feel so much better about the shoe thing! Thanks ladies.

I have had to come to the sad conclusion that working 3 days doesn't bring in enough money for us. I have tried all sorts but the bucket of sand I have had my head in is no longer big enough!
Going to have to arrange a meeting with HR to see if I can increase to 4 but work a day from home......I need to be sensible about it. No point in being poor and miserable when I can work more is there!

catstar · 24/06/2008 12:52

Good luck with HR Myfairone. I have to say that 4 days seems to be working our ok for us (of course I'd rather do less needs must) and the week whizzes by.

Am at the walking! Little O refuses to put any weight on her legs and seems totally uninterested in pulling herself up on anything. We've tried inticing her by puting remote controls on the sofa etc, but if she can't reach it she just crawls away to find something else that's not a toy! Do you think I need to speak to the HV about her lack of standing?

Well, after weeks of getting up 5 or 6 times a night to put it back in, we ditched the dummy on Saturday night and have still not given in! Saturday night was heartbreaking though - she loved her dummy so much. She was searching frantically round her cot for it looking really bewildered. It took about 45 mins of shhhing and patting, but she went off in the end and seems to be coping ok. Today's the first nap at nursery without a dummy - they are under strict instructions not to use it, I just hope they go along with it otherwise it will all have been in vain.

Hope all had good weekends - Teddy Bears Picnic was great fun. O got really excited on the Bear hunt, shouting and flapping her arms. She also made her own marmite sandwich (well, waved the knife around a bit in her hair ).

madmarriedNika · 24/06/2008 14:53

catstar- well done on ditching the dummy, it's a very hard one! I wouldn't worry about Little O not wanting to stand or pull-up yet- it's still early days- and many babies once they are good crawlers have less inclination to figure out walking.... Why go through all those accidents trying to balance on 2 legs to move about when you can race around on hands & knees?

CONGRATULATIONS.xx

That is great news..

Lee gave me a scare today.. he has been ill for a couple of days really niggly crying alot and just not him. Then at lunch time today he was the same.. (he has also been moaning like we would when in pain) I picked him up he clung to me then all of a sudden stoppped crying and started to violently shiver!!, I called my neighbour to come over and look at him with me as I was sure his face was blue tinged!!, she came in looked at him and said..Karen his hands and fet are blue!!! I handed him to her, picked up the ohione ran in the garden and hsouted my other neighbour, who came running straight round.. looked at lee handed him to me and saidget in the car.. I was histerical!!! we sped to the med centre adn all the drs where oon lunch but the receptioninst looked at me and said hold on I will get someone.. In the car Lees colour had come back but he was very quiet and dazed like.

They took us to the nurses station, they looked at him and took his temp whilst i was saying what had happened and he had a temp of 39.4 by ear.

Dr checkedhim and a rash was appearing on his chest before our eyes.. luckily this was dissapearing when pressed.. Dr checked lee for stiff joints, but by now lee had perked up and was smiling slightly at him and trying to grab him. His throat ears tummy etc were all checked and nothing.... SO it has been put down to a viral infection.. he blueness has been put down to his temp spiking to fast..30mins after the ibrufen his temo was down to 38.4. so we could come home.

He has been on and off all afternoon.. But silly me just looked up the symptoms ionline.. big mistake as they aare alot of the symptoms of the big M.... I know it was silly to look this up but I have never heard of a child going blue througha temP!!!!

I will keep checking him through the night though as I have got myself into a panik,, bless him..

Hooray for justabout!

2+1 that must have been very scary. Minimeep goes bluish when she has a high temp - her body goes all purple and blotchy (like when you are very cold) and she starts to shiver and shake and wail. The first time I freaked (like you!) and NHS24 got me a hospital appointment within half an hour. The next time she did it when dh was getting her out of the bath and he freaked - luckily I had seen it before and got some calpol in her. Within 5 minutes she was rosy pink again and smiley.

So - step away from google - it will just terrify you!

Hope he's better soon.

Catstar - don't worry about LittleO not standing. She is a crawler - minimeep is a stander- I am sure some do both - but there is no crawling going on in this house.

I am getting a full night's sleep tonight. Last night was one of the worst ever - so dh and I are now taking it in turns to sleep in teh spare room as there is no point in both of us being awake all night! And it is my turn tonight

Myfairone · 25/06/2008 15:58

Hi luckymummy20, nice to meet you and so pleased to hear that you are enjoying motherhood. Isn't it just the most wonderful experience of your life

2+1 - I am so sorry to hear about your extremely frightening experience. I have heard of children going blue. How awful for you all. Thank God you have such good neighbours! Hope that all goes well for you and that Lee is on the mend.

Justabout - WOW! Congratulations! Go girl! Wishing you all the best for Saturday. Enjoy every minute of it!

Catstar - Glad to hear that 4 days is working for you. I have enjoyed doing 3 but think I need to do more. I still haven't plucked up the courage to go to HR (mainly because they are currently taking someone through a disciplinary and I would rather them be in a good mood!)

Hope that all goes well with the removal of the dummy. I was reading about that in a toddler book Im reading. We don't have to worry about that with DS because he sucks his thumb!!!!!! Not sure how you wean a child from a thumb!

I totally forgot to check for egg free cake recipes....will check tomorrow! Sorry for forgetting.

Well, its 4pm and Im wasting valuable work time surfing MumsNet!

meep · 25/06/2008 17:44

hi luckymummy! Ruby sounds gorgeous!

MFO - I do 4 days a week and it feels like a full week with a sneaky day off! So it is good workwise. I started with Wednesday off but found I wasn't having enough days in a row to really get on with work so I now have thursday off and it is much better and I am less stresse!

Minimeep is a thumb sucker too. It is great that we haven't had to go through Catstar's trauma of dummy wening - but another MNetter pointed out that you never see a child going into Primary with a dummy but you do see them sucking their thumbs.!

meep · 26/06/2008 10:57

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MAIRI & BEN
enjoy your parties!

catstar · 26/06/2008 11:26

Let the partying commence . Lots of Happy Birthdays to all the LO's!

Welcome Luckymummy! I like your name - it sums things up very well!

2+1 - how is Lee? I hope he is feeling better and that you have got over your shock. It sounds very frightening - but good to know you have such helpful neighbours.

Well the dummy is gone forever! O still looks hopeful when we say goodnight, but settles fine without it. I think she's teething again so with hindsight maybe we should have waited a bit longer to bin it, but it's done now. I wonder if she'll start using her thumb as a replacement?

Last night both DH and I collected her together from nursery and I thought she was going to take off when she saw us both . She was shrieking and laughing - it just melted my heart! I wish I could pick her up every night.

Anyway, better do some work. Am starting to feel a bit nauseous now, but it's all for a good cause!
