Miss natalie - sounds like you are having a really tough time of it!! i can totally sympathise with the lack of sleep / crying at the slightest thing / snappiness you are talking about - it sounds like you are describing me!!

I have found that talking to my partner about it has helped (he has been snappy too!) we are both suffering from tiredness - so he can understand to some extent what I am going through.

My daughter used to go for 4 hours between feed - almost set your watch by her! - but more recently has been wanting feeding anywhere between 1.5 to 3 hour periods. This is a killer through the night! One thing I do to help me is staying in bed till later in the day.

So, if I have been up at 1am, 3am, 5am, 7am, 9am with feeds - I try to get straight back to sleep after each one, and will continue to feed and go back to sleep till I feel ready to get up............ sometimes won't be till 1pm!! but I reckon it's definately worth it coz for the rest of the day (short though it may be) I feel tons better!!

Also, have you tried feeding Henley in bed with you lying down? that way you can kind of doze whilst he is feeding? I spent a whole day doing this last week and it was V relaxing!

hope this helps - obviously I am no expert - but just thought I would let you know what has been working for me - and these are just the ramblings of another knackared first time mum!!

mitfordsisters · 13/04/2008 17:32

bit knackered today. went for a nap with hector at lunchtime and he wouldn't settle, but strange enough went straight to sleep as soon as i'd got up.

dh's brother is here eating us out of house and home. went to see the marathon runners at tower bridge for a little bit of entertainment, now back in my comfies at home.

nice to see you bovril - wondered how you were getting on. sorry to hear about the mastitis. don't ask me about babywearing - hector is in his sling asleep but nearly fell out when i started typing just now.

morningglory - the good thing about massive boobs is they make my wobbly tum look smaller. i haven't been on the scales since h was born, but feel lardy due to intense quantities of wine, chocolate and cake.

gingermumi · 13/04/2008 18:16

Hi ladies, can't reply to all post but hope evryone ok.

lljkk so sorry about hamster, it's horrible when a pet dies. That kind of demise is not uncommon, it happened to one of ours, i don't think there's anything you could have done.

Mutha- nappy cream - used sudocrem with dds but bepanthen (on advice of midwife) for ds- not much to choose between them.

Cottonwool vs wipes - we use cotton wool at home and wipes when out. hope that helps!

enjoy rest of weekend

Gill79 · 13/04/2008 18:33

Am turning into my mother - meant J-Lo not Jo-Lo.....

Miss Natalie we had some poos with bits of green in and also regularly go five days in between dirty nappies. (By "we" I mean DS!)

Redbush · 13/04/2008 19:25

Hello ladies - well I actually made it back in less than a week!! Miss natalie - can sympathise with the lack of sleep my lo does a 4-5 hr stint occassionally but last night it was 11pm 1am 3am and 5am and she takes some time to get off at times so I only get back to sleep for about an hr - still it can only get better!! I do tend to go to bed early if she settles at 9ish.

Can also sympathise with the maternity wear -I have the same problem with boobs!! DD1 only stopped b/f 4 weeks before I got pregnant again so they have never gone back to normal size - all my tops are too short because of it but actually found a top in "KEW" last week that fits and is long enough to reach my jeans - not very loose though.

Tried expressed milk in a bottle for first time today - 5 and half weeks. Not very successful - only got 2oz into her and took ages - what type of bottles/teats are people using with their b/f babes? We tried Avent.

Also have the same problem with the sling thing. We have a sleepytoes - made to measure so supposed to be the easiest as no clips to adjust etc - can just about get her in it but she looks all scrunched up and I can't bear to leave her there!!

Hey ho the joys of motherhood - good job you seem to forget most of this stuff (as I have)or you might not choose to do it again!

alkar · 13/04/2008 19:53

Sorry you are feeling low missnatalie, hope tonight is better for you

I think I have got problems with my milk supply over the last few days. DS is getting very frustrated he is emptying both breasts and still wants more. Has anyone got any advice?

gingermumi · 13/04/2008 20:24

alkar- have had same problem with ds- asked hv about it and she recommended giving a formular feed as an extra. Waht i have done is give a couple of ounces after the feed if he's still hungry rather than an extra feed. When dds were small you could wean at 12 weeks but current thinking is against any solids until 16 weeks, preferably 6months. Hope this help

gingermumi · 13/04/2008 20:25

Also, the more you feed the more you produce so it could be a supply and demand problem that will sort itself out in a few days!

Redbush · 13/04/2008 20:48

Hi Alkar - this is my second post in one evening - must be a record. He could be having a growth spurt and therefore wanting more than he has been - as gingermumi says your supply will increase to meet his demand

tyaca · 13/04/2008 22:03

hello all - hope everyone had nice weekends.

just a quickie - are anyone's LOs having problems with wind// holding breath? we have had a tough time since weds cause esther seems to be in quite a bit of pain. lots of screaming crying, and farts which make her hold her breath. she's usually consolable, but whatever's wrong now seems to be hurting her so much that no amount of rocking, cuddling and attention helps. she goes bright red with the breath holding. she's gone from pooing 3/4 times a day to once a day recently, could it be connected?

leesmum · 14/04/2008 11:29

Tyaca our lo has huge wind problems, we try to keep him upright for a while after feeds, does esther have a dummy? sometimes that can help to calm them down. How are you coping with everything?

Bovril we too are having shorter gaps between feed but he's only on for 10/15 mins at a time, he's 3 months this week so i'm hoping it's just another growth spurt

Mitford yes my huge boobs balance the rest of me out. We watched the marathon on tv, it brought a tear to my eye because dad used to run marathons, he even did the london one in under 3hrs when he was 44!! maybe i should take up running it might get rid of my jelly belly

well weigh-in time, i've lost 1lb this week, i've been so good as well but at least i haven't put any on!

Thanks to redbush and ginger for your advice. I had thought it might be a growth spurt but he's only 10 weeks I know they don't go by the calendar though! I have found out that there is a bf support group on today so I will go there and ask.

Wow leesmum I am very impressed with your dads time you must miss him lots x

Tyaca - infacol worked for DS he also suddenly went from 3 poos a day to 1 or 2 a week, the health visitor said its normal and just means that their digestive system is getting better

Egg · 14/04/2008 15:07

Hello ladies. Been busy with cleaning and tidying today, my sis and children are coming to stay for a couple of nights tonight.

I have lost track as not posted for a day or two (rare for me!). Gill I saw J-Lo (or Jo-Lo ) in OK Mag as well, and was impressed at the lack of baby sick, stained bibs (or indeed any bibs) etc etc. Also noted that J-Lo was feeding whilst wearing what looked like a v expensive silk evening dress (and various other designer outfits). I don't dare wear anything other than crappy t-shirts.

Have put a couple of new pics on my profile. Took a great one of them in the bath together but need to put figleaves over their bits as don't want any dodgy people looking at them!

Tyaca, DS2 has bad wind. He hates it when he has to fart, it really upsets him (unlike DS1 who thinks it is hilarious). He is on max dose infacol which does help with his puking problems, and helps him get his burps up, but he still gets a tummy ache poor lad. He was so upset this morning.

As for pooing. DD goes usually twice a day, DS2 is usually every other day. Strange really, as they both get fed at the same times 90% of the time, and obviously have the same milk as each other. DD's is still real "baby" poo (ie runny) and DS2's is lovely and thick [bleurgh emoticon].

Egg · 14/04/2008 15:08

Oh, and have been crap on weight loss this week. Only been on exercise bike twice instead of four times, been eating all manner of bad food, and although I gained weight during the week I am today still same as last week so have not changed the list.

Lucyand2 · 14/04/2008 15:08

missnatalie - I hope your doing okay and that you manage to get some rest soon. Tiredness does funny things to the mind but it does get easier.
DD2 decided to sleep from 10pm until 4am for almost a week but has quickly gone back to her 3-4 times a night feeding pattern so I'm quite short tempered today. I'm also waiting to find out about DP's job which isn't helping!

We finally managed to do the deed at long last and it was fine! No contraception but I'm not worried as I wasn't fertile for over a year last time. I'm giving all my maternity wear to my sisters so I never have to see it again although I still wear some of it, I love my maternity jeans from M & P.
Marks and spencers are doing new longer vests which are good and cheap if anyone else wants to cover their belly! Mine is looking a bit better thanks to physio.

On the green poo topic - DD2 does this now and again but as far as I remember it's to do with having either too much foremilk or hindmilk, it does seem to happen when she's drinking lots or refusing one side!

Egg · 14/04/2008 15:14

Oh DS2 sometimes has green poo and is on formula...

Lucy I have made a RULE with my DTs that now that they regularly sleep from 10pm to 4am I will not be happy if they try to eat earlier. DS2 woke up at 2am the other night and I pretended not to hear him, he wasn't crying madly and after a few mins he went back to sleep. How I whoooped! He then woke up again at 4:30am. I am terrified that if one of them gets fed much earlier than normal they will try it again the next night and I will go maaaaaad.

Ugh, my lovely quiet Monday is coming to an end.

princessllama · 14/04/2008 19:21

managed to go to see a film today with ferdie. felt fantastic-he slept through the whole thing whilst i sniffed into my tissues, a real weepy but great. just managed to get to the cafe for tea and huge chocolate croissant whilst he fed for half an hour and i managed to read some of the paper. yippee, almost like being a real person for the afternoon. also got through morning feed/balamory session without Hope hitting Ferdie over the head more than once. can't wait for a bit more sleep at night and no nightmare time every evening.
does anyone know if you can use canestan cream on your bits when you're breastfeeding?
Omy i remember you were interested in a postnatal yoga class-there's one near me on ladbroke grove. you do a baby massage class then the antenatal mums look after your babies whilst you do the yoga class-can't wait to do it, you can start when your baby is 6 weeks.
btw-to all of you in the weigh in-be warned, i heard on the radio that if your scales are on carpet they can add up to 2pounds!

Lucyand2 · 14/04/2008 21:12

canestan is fine on your bits, I had thrush lots after taking antibiotics for mastitis with DD1 and I think I would have gone mad without it. I can't remember about the pessary but the cream is okay.

I'm trying to decide about DP having a vasectomy as I'm really not sure if I want another baby. I think we need to be absolutely sure before he has it done. I've been considering the coil but I don't know anyone who's tried it. Can anyone tell me what it's like?

bovrilsarnies · 14/04/2008 21:44
