Hello everyone, sorry it's been so long.

I'm a bit frazzled today. Finally put up the bl;ackout blinds in the bedroom after asking dh for weeks - girl power. Unfortunately this meant ds and I could not see each other to do night feed - poking him in eye with nipple etc. So he cried a lot last night, and all for want of a night light.

GLad to hear what you've all been up to - Egg - drawing on bananas?? Surreal. Agree with countto10 re bathing - if it's cold, i've been skipping his bath.

On subject of wipes, I have been making them which may be only possible as a mum of one with a bit of time on her hands. However, it keeps his bum lovely and soft.

Here's how: Cut flannels in half and hem (far too much like hard work, I know) or buy reusable wipes from the nappy lady

Put camomile teabag in tupperware box, along with 3 drops lavendar oil, 3 drops olive oil, 3 drops mild soap. POur on hot water and leave to stew. Remove teabag, and pile in your flannels/ resusable wipes. bingo, lots of lovely wipes and no rubbsh

I might be able to make it to the london meetup - need to work out how long journey would be. Used to live near hampstead heath but now in south london.

hope your babies are all nice and calm todayx

mitfordsisters · 11/04/2008 11:50

crosspost slacker! will water and wipes do as good a job for breastfed babies?

dh and i have decided not to take ds for the bcg (tuberculosis) jab. this used to be given to adolescents but now they've changed to give it to babies instead. I said to hv, 'er, doesn't it give most people a nasty reaction at site of the jab'. she said, 'no, babies don't get that, well most of them anyway' .

Arhian · 11/04/2008 12:19

Hello, how is everyone today.

Am feeling so happy today, managed to get a total of 6 hours sleep last night (only one feed in the middle). Compared to the other two nights when dd kept me awake, she kept being sick, had to change the sheets in her cot twice on tuesday night, and change her vest and sleepsuit twice. The same happened on wednesday night as well, I don't know what was wrong with her, have never seen her been sick like that before. I feel so much better now, felt like a zombie yesterday. Don't think I looked much better either.

Can I ask who is using re-usable nappies, and what brands are you using?
We always planned to use re-usable nappies after getting the hang of the disposable ones, but don't know which ones to go for. Was thinking of getting the totsbots ones. Any advice please.

Right, am off to do some housework now, well maybe not xx

missnatalie · 11/04/2008 12:30

Afternoon everyone!!

Im really not coping with the lack of sleep. Henley is waking every 2.5 - 3hrs for a feed and then gulps down 120-150ml everytime. HV sugested putting him on the Hungry Baby milk (sma white) but he didnt take to it. Made him really constipated and sick.

He'll be 9w on monday and has his first jab on tuesday. Im really not looking forward to that either.

Ive gone through a range of different wipes with Henley. First it was huggies pure but i didnt like them and they were always so bloody cold on his skin. Have no idea why though . Then pampers sensetive but they gave him a spotty rash. So were now using the johnsons ones and ive bought absolutly loads. ASDA were doing boxes of 6 (it might of even been 8) for £5 so i bought 8 boxes . The funny thing is though, is that now ive got all of them, im using double the amount on each nappy change.

He's putting on loads of weight too. He's 10lb now. Was only 6lb 7oz at birth. He has just grown so much. He's HUGE!!

Does anyone have any ideas on how i can get Henley to sleep longer at night? I feel like im going through hell at the moment!!

alkar · 11/04/2008 13:15

missnatalie we've been using the huggies pure and they are really cold?? We are using re-usable nappies so feeling a bit guilty using disposable wipes now, I'll have to follow the advice os slacker and mitfordsisters and make my own.

Ahrian we have lots of different re-usable nappies. I think my favourites are fluffles by totsbots they dry really fast but do make his bottom look a bit large! He also has some little lambs which are a really good fit they have a trial offer on which is quite good.

LO screaming for food - got to go

leesmum · 11/04/2008 13:52

Count if you are still BF squirt a little breastmilk into lo eye's, the antibodies in BM are brill for sticky eyes and nappy rash!

We have been using baby wipes for weeks now but we only use Asda fragrance free sensitive ones, johnsons are too strong (as any of you will find out if you've ever wiped your face with one!) they gave Ds1 a nasty rash on face and bum.

Missnatalie i would love to help you out with sleeping longer but i'm still getting up at least twice in the night with lo. He has his formula of daddy at 7pm and falls asleep around 7.30 then wakes between 12/1am when i feed him, this only takes about 10min now, he goes straight off then wakes about3/4am and then we all get up and are down for 7am when i feed him again. I would love to get more sleep but i think they just do it when they're ready.

Mitford i'm HUGELY impressed with you making baby wipes, its a great thing to do if you have time

Princess you're having a tough time of it are'nt you, good on you for sticking with BF though, i think i might have given up by now. Take care xxx

morningglory · 11/04/2008 14:41

Hello everyone!!!!

Been offline for about 5 weeks (mum and dad were here, and mumcomandeered my laptop to keep up with her oriental soaps!).

It's been refreshing to scan over all of your posts and see that I'm not alone. Last time, I had 2 mother's group I met up with, but this time, I'm in a different area and have no support.

LO's: name changed from Alexander to Sebastian, has about doubled in weight since birth, and is slipping nicely into a routine. I've even been brave enough (and acquired enough of a stash of EBM) to go out for an evening with DH! Evenings are OK with only one after 10pm feed, so I'm not zombie-like.

Breastfeeding and expressing have gotten much easier, although I must admit that I'm not one of those who love the act of breastfeeding. If it weren't for the benefits of disciplined so many of you are! I WILL get these too!

morningglory · 11/04/2008 14:48

um, not sure what happened, but halk of my message was chopped off, so the last sentance makes no sense.

I was complaining about how awful DS1's behavior has gotten since my parents have left (defiant, violent, cursing incessantly, stroppy), and how I'm at wit's end. I am trying to ignore and stay calm thing, but sometines he does push me over the edge.

Also was saying how impressed I am about people dieting. I'm not even going to begin until DS1 has calmed down. Also breastfeeding makes me crave sugar and fat, and makes me ravenously hungry, so I probably won't start for another 3 months or so.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 11/04/2008 15:50

hi morning- good to hear from you- cant believe its been 5 weeks

love the mane change btw,

mutha2beagain · 11/04/2008 16:44

Very impressed with homemade wipes, the fragrancing recipe does sound far more appealing than that uber synthetic baby powder pong that imbues Johnson's which I stockpiled wholesale

Hi Morning, and welcome back! Sorry to hear your DS1 is taking you to task. Unfortunately one of the curses of grandparents is that whilst they are a great support in childcare they can sometimes be terrible spoilers - even with the best intentions - and you have to almost re-establish all the boundaries all over again as they override them without meaning to. My MIL absolutely stuffs DS1 with sweets no matter how many times I tell her not to. At least I don't have this problem with my parents as my dad is a dentist so there is some level of sensibility about sugar consumption on our side of the family ... barring me of course... but that's my business!!

Miss Nathalie, sorry to hear your LO is waking you up so much in the night. Sounds like he's very hungry!! is it like this during the day too?

saskia71 · 11/04/2008 17:51

Hi All,

Princessllama ? Many thanks for the info, so glad that your friend?s baby is okay. Marcus had a follow-up appt with the surgeon and is absolutely fine as well.

Mutha2beagain ? Envious of your trip to the RA. When Hubby and I were going out we used to go there as well. After seeing whatever we would have lunch/tea at the hotel across the road, followed by a spot of shopping. Such carefree days.

Mitford ? How do you have a bit of spare time on your hands? I?m also a mum of one but I don?t seem to have any. It feels like I?m always loading/unloading some sort of machine, or seeing to Marcus.

The weight loss list is a great idea. I?ll add myself next week when I go back to working out with my personal trainer. I?ll be able to leave Marcus at the club?s crèche but he needed to be of a minimum age for this. I am so looking forward to running again. I?ve also made an appointment to see a cosmetic surgeon for some work on a scar. Plan A is lots of working out in the gym. A further incentive is that I won?t be buying any new clothes until I?m back to my previous size. If after six months I?m not toned and as before, then there is a Plan B - the cosmetic surgery route. We shall see.

Ah wipes - I only use for the initial nappy area mop-up. Then wash with water which also gets rid of the residues and finish with a bit of olive oil. Essentially I?m just using the wipe to save soiling the flannel.

I?m going to attend a course of baby massage classes next week. It seems fun ? anyone else doing this?

alkar · 11/04/2008 18:10

Saskia I have just finished my baby massage course today it was really good and DS seemed to enjoy it - he sleeps much better after a massage. He got a certificate saying he'd completed the course, so cute . Just be careful what you wear though I got wee'd on twice today!

mutha2beagain · 11/04/2008 18:38

Saskia - impressed with your ambitions to restore your body to its former glory. Are you planning on having more babies? Maybe surgery should wait until after then!

I've just arranged for a group of friends to do a massage course at mine - we're sharing a teacher. Did it with DS1 and it was so lovely - great way for babies to engage with their bodies and an opportunity for us mums to gaze adoringly at our lo's in their birthday suits. As Alkar says, it is also wonderful for getting them off to sleep afterwards!

lljkk · 11/04/2008 19:01

Actually dc wanted 2 bury hammie right away, that seemed 2 help them accept it.
They want 2 disinter him next year, c what the bones look like.

I'm using cotton wool + some reusable wipes 4 ds...
Still exhausted here, thank goodness 4 w.end. Saw my real life due date buddy 2day & she's stressed out 2.

rozzyraspberry · 11/04/2008 20:21

Missnatalie - my lo is the same - generally feeds every 2-3 hours during the day, goes down at 7 then up at around 11.30, 2.30 and 5. He did start going for 4hours during the night for a few days but it didn't last!! Neither of my previous 2 babies fed as often as this and I'm not doing anything differently this time round - just a case of all babies being different I think and waiting for them to feed less - just hope it's not too much longer!

Hi morningglory!! Bf has made me really crave unhealthy things too to such an extent that I still have a LOT of weight to lose. Funnily enough though since I decided I'd cut the crap out of my diet on Monday I haven't craved it at all! We shall see if it's worked on the Monday weigh in!

Drawing on your bananas egg - that's a new one! At least in wasn't your walls or furniture!!

lljkk - ain't kids great - upset about the hamster dying one minute then wanting to dig it up and see what its bones look like the next.

I'm starting a baby massage course next week.

Last day of easter holidays here today so ds1 and ds2 will be back at nursery on Monday. Not much else happening!

Redbush · 11/04/2008 20:51

Hello ladies, can't believe how hopeless I am at keeping up to date. I logged on last Sun and read through all the posts since I posted - thanks for the replies - with the aim of logging back on on Monday to post again. I just don't make it!! - by the time DH is home from work and takes over with DD1 all I want to do is sit on the sofa and watch rubbish tv. Thanks for the advice Omy LO is now just over 5 weeks and coping with the flooding better! I manage to take her off briefly as I let down and that seems to help. I take it from your comment about feeding that you're demand feeding? That's what I'm doing but finding it draining as most days it's still every 2hrs sometimes more frequently especially in the evening. She can go 3-4hrs at times if we are out and about and I'm not picking her up - at home she isn't good being in her own space and gets unsettled very quickly. She settles quite quickly with a cuddle but doesn't last as long before wanting to feed. The Health visitor told me LO should be going 3hrs between feeds based on her age and weight!now 10lb 11oz suggested I try to make her wait a bit - tried it once and gave up! We're not doing well tonight she doesn't seem to want to settle at all but at the same time isn't really having a good feed. Thanks for your post Jaysfinished - will email you next.

Have to admit not looking forward to tonight - our neighbours have warned us they are having a party and I really feel like I need my little bit of sleep that I do get - they can be pretty noisy and have kept us up before - am winding myself up before it happens. Hope everybody has a good weekend - will try my best to get back on here before another week goes by!

Jaysfinished · 11/04/2008 22:24

hi all
still here, still alive..much like Redbush, hiya BTW, i never get time to come on, and when i do it seems like its only for a minute before something else has to take priority, anyway likei said, am still here - just. Coopers Tongue Tie should be being sorted on Wed, we are having to go private as theres a two month waiting list, and my poor nipples cant take anymore of his bad latching, and i cant take anymore of his frustration at not getting his milk without constantly bobbing on and off!!! Anyway i am in the middle of expressing every few hours and trying to get him to take the bottle...while at the same time gritting my teeth through a few BFs! Its a tough job isnt it!
So hope everyone else is ok, will attempt to catch you all later xx

btw - Redbush my email address has changed,

[email protected]

is now the address you need!

mitfordsisters · 12/04/2008 09:27

I am so fed up of wearing maternity/old clothes - keep yearning at least for a pair of jeans that fit, so won't be holding back from shopping until I am my former size - it could be a long time before I'm that slim again! Trying to fit in abdominal exercises, and hoping they have some effect.

And the only reason I have spare time is that I try to do washing up, cook meals, ring friends etc. all at once, with baby in sling usually and end up overdoing it, and doing everything only half well.

Jaysfinished - you are doing brilliantly to keep on top of caring for 3 and persevering with breastfeeding. Hope the procedure goes well on Wed.

LOL re. disinterring the hamster.

bovrilsarnies · 12/04/2008 13:34

Hi everyone,

Still here, but never seem to get time to come on line anymore as my work took my laptop back to give to another employee to use whilst I am on Mat leave!![gutted]

My only access to the internet is via the Wii console (fine for reading thread but no good for posting messages!!) otherwise I have to wait for DP to get home and borrow his laptop (wshen he isn't using it himself!!)He has gone into town to get his hair cut and Seren is fast asleep upstairs - so I thought I would grab this chance to get on here and say HI!!

would ike to join in with the weight loss effort - one moment whilst I go weigh myself...................... Well, It's not prety!! I'm 11 stone 6 pounds [boo hoo] want to get back to my pre preg weight of 9 stone 4 pounds or there abouts. mind you I did get up to 13 stone 7 toward the end of my pregnancy, so the breast feeding must be doing something for me - that and all the water retention that has FINALLY gone from my body!! felt like a human sponge bob - and the water retention actually got worse after I had had DD before it got better!

I am however craving all things sweet or fatty!! but prety much any food will do - I am hungry all the time, and I am finding it hard to get sdomething to eat as Seren is V clingy baby and doesn't take kindly to being put down (unless fast asleep!!) Have had some success with the sling - but I'm not convinced she is comfy in there!! I think I need to find a baby wearing pro to show me how it's done!!

I'm on anti-biotics at the moment too (Amoxicillin) as have got /am getting over Mastitis - VERY painfull and felt like totaly shite till the Anti-biotics kicked in!! have nearly finnished the course now though and am feeling much better.

Arhian - We are using Totbots nappies with Motherease Airflow wraps - seem to be a good combo, they were recomended to me by two of my sisters who both used them. Also recomended to me were thr Fluffles nappies as they are softer and they dry quicker. We are still using disposables sometimes for convenience.

Mitfordsisters - big respect to you for making your own wipes etc!! you have inspired me to give it a go myself!

Jaysfinished - goodluck for Wednesday! hope all goes well for you and Cooper.

Gotta go - can hear Seren crying upstairs - must be lunch time!!

morningglory · 12/04/2008 18:22

saskia: I can;t wait to start to excercise again...but it';; have to wait until my boobs are close to my normal size. I've gone from a, a cup to a dd!

Speaking of surgery and boobs, dh gave me a picture of how he'd like my boobs after I'm all finished feeding (not large, but very pert...kind of like me prior to 2 babies). I nearly clobbered him with a puke covered muslin.

mitford: I sympathize! I hate the site of maternity now. However, even if I was back to my old size, my problem(s) are my humungous boobs and fining something which is easy to breastfeed in. Why don't they make cute/trendy breastfeeding tops?

I'm off to have my 3rd chocolate brownie of the day (damn Costco's and their elephantine portions!).

Gill79 · 12/04/2008 20:25

Morningglory I feel totally fed up of wearing my nursing vests day and night but just can't find an alternative - nursing bras just didn't work for me as well as the vests but I just wish I could wear something else for a change!

I'm still confused about my size as some outfits make me look really fat and some make me look really slim. The temperamental scales do the same!

Saskia - take it easy! (Can't remember if you are b/f but if you are you'll get run down much quicker) Also I think six months might be a bit early to expect to be back to how you were before (I certainly hope it is as I'm almost half way there and not feeling half way back to normal!) Can I ask what it is that you are thinking of surgery for - the scar itself or the infamous caesarean overhang?

Anyone see the Jo-Lo story in Grazia? Lost 2 stone 6 weeks after having her twins....

We're flying with LO next weekend and giong to put the buggy in the hold - does anyone know if the carseat can go in the hold at the same time (as we'll be using the carseat in the buggy)

Nice to come on and see you all - feeling a bit but have got my special medicine a bar of dark choc and can of diet coke and now much more

Gill79 · 12/04/2008 20:28

Miss Natalie - is Henley definitely hungry when he wakes up? Malcolm wakes up sometimes without being hungry (I think ) -just lies there squeaking and keeping us awake wanting to chat so I stick the dummy in, put the mobile on and wait for him to wake up later shouting.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 12/04/2008 22:05

welcome back bovril- great to hear from you!!!

missnatalie · 13/04/2008 01:00

Hi everyone...

Henleys still keeping me up!! If only i could get just one night of constant sleep id feel so much better. Im completly knackered. Ive become really snappy too and crying at the least little thing. HV has also confirmed that i do have PND but im not so sure. I am feeling low but i personaly wouldnt say that its PND.

gill79 - Yep he's definalty hungry. I tried leaving him for a bit. Like you, i gave him his dummy and turned the mobile on but it didnt work. He was screaming that much for a feed that he went bright red, was covered in sweat and puked all over his crib and i mean all over!! Really dont know what to do.

His poo's have also changed. He used to do one after every feed but now he only does one 1-3 times a day and sometimes theres green bits in it. His last one was almost completly green and thick like tar (sorry if tmi). Is this normal? I dont have a clue as he's my first. Did ask the HV and she said that i should just keep an eye on it. Has anyone elses baby had a change in bowel movements??

morningglory · 13/04/2008 11:19

miss natalie, sorry about the hard time you are having. Lack of sleep is horrible, and is the worst form of torture around.

How is he feeding? If he is sleepy when he feeds, he might not be feeding efficiently. Have you tried to express the feed and give it from a bottle? I found that giving one fee a day (last one before I go to sleep) allows him to go a bit longer in the evening.

The screaming and crying is stressful, and no wonder you are down.

I wouldn't be too concerned by the decrease in the number of poos if he has plenty of wet nappies. however, the change in colour is stranger. Green poos seem to indicate a higher bile content, which might go with a higher fat content in your milk (normal if you are cluster feeding). I'd ask your GP over the HV if I was in your shoes.
