Evening all,

Well lastnight was better. Henley went to bed at 9pm and then woke for a feed at 2.30am, 5.30am and 6.30am. Although he woke at 6.30am. I gave him a cuddle and then we snuggled up together im my bed. He then slept until 8.30am and boy he was hungry!! My sis suggested using the johnsons bed time bath range as it helped with her LO when she was trying to get him to sleep through. I think theres lavender and some other soothing smells in it that makes babies calmer and relaxed. What ever it was, it worked for me. Henley went from 9pm - 2.30am!! Just bathed and put him to bed now but hes screaming his head off so might end up bringing him back down. I'll give him another 5 mins and see if he cries himself to sleep .

Hes got his first injection tomorrow. Im really not looking forward to it. Hes been poked and proded so many times already and hes only 9w old. Have a read of my birth story if you get a sec. Its in the birth anoucements bit. It explains whay hes had so many needles.

Ooohh hes finally gone quite. He may have drifted off to sleep. I'll have my shower and then im off to bed too.

CountTo10 · 14/04/2008 22:03

Hope everyone's ok!! Will have to update my weight in stats tomorrow as couldn't go and get weighed tonight cause dp had football grrr!!

Tyaca - ds2 does this and can go really red and cry a lot after. i find putting him on his tummy can help or just putting him on my shoulder and rubbing his back seems to help him get a bit more out. Gripe water is good as well as tummy massage.

Lucy - I've been wondering this. My friend has recently had a coil put in, the copper type. She said it was slighlty uncomfortable having it put in but no worse than a smear. She said she obviously can't feel it now and just has a period each month and will have it checked each year. I just want something that's hassle free and not hormonal so I'm going to look into this one.

We're really lucky here that ds2 has totally settled and his growth spurt seems to have subsided too. He definitely has to have sleep during the day tho cause when he doesn't it takes ages to get him to sleep in the evening. Also, becoming harder to get to sleep anywhere but his cot which whilst it should be a good thing is not the best when we're out!!! Now having to take the pram everywhere we go so we can push it up and down!! Ds1 would sleep on a hoover if he was tired enough when he was a baby!!! Trying to organise my friends hen night and various other things - not the easiest!! Looking to forward to it tho. We've got so many things coming up, I'm making the most of my nights in at the mo - reading books and everything!!!!

CountTo10 · 14/04/2008 22:04

Glad to hear he's calmed a bit miss nat - we started using that baby stuff when ds2 was hard to settle and he really responded to it too. I still use it - more cause I like the smell now!!!

MERLYPUSS · 14/04/2008 22:13

I'm back. Hope that list down there / is nothing to do with diets. I survive on tepid tea and KitKats. That wont do if I am trying to keep up with you guys will it?

bovrilsarnies · 14/04/2008 22:43

LOL at tepid tea and kitkats!! sounds V familiar!

Hot cuppa's are few and far between these days!!

Arhian · 15/04/2008 08:08

Morning all!

Feels as though I've got matchsticks holding my eyes open this morning. Been up since 6 with DH and DD, watching them play & hug before DH had to leave for work at half 6. And now DD is sleeping in her bouncy chair after her feed, am debating going back to bed. Probably won't, expecting HV to come this morning, and knowing me if I go back 2 bed I probably won't hear her at the door.

Dows any1 else's baby snore?? DD is snoring really loud here, & she only snores in the day, never at night. Cute

mutha2beagain · 15/04/2008 11:54

Aren't you lucky that DD only snores during the day? Mine veers from that completely silent sleeping where you think they've stopped breathing to full truffle hunter mode which I either have the choice of lying awake listening to or decamping to the sofa. It is astonishing how much noise such a tiny human being can make. This problem has recently been exacerbated by LO picking up my cough and cold, so we've had baby blocked up snotty nose and baby coughs to listen to. Poor little mite.

My sister in law in France has a device for extracting bogies from babies' noses - how disgusting is that? Only the French....

Somehow I've managed to get down to 10st. Shall I cut and paste this change into the list?

beansprout · 15/04/2008 14:17

I sleep with ear plugs to cut out all that snuffle pig stuff. I then only hear ds2 when he needs me.

I haven't lost any weight this week so will not change the list, but am not too bothered as I didn't exactly try really hard last week!! Well done to everyone who did though.

bovrilsarnies · 15/04/2008 14:27

Arhian-my lo snores 2 but only really when propped up.
mutha- i think egg has some kind of snot extraction device for babies - i think it was egg - now not sure - but i'm certain it has been mentioned on here before. lol.

beansprout · 15/04/2008 15:18

It was Egg! It was Egg!!

CountTo10 · 15/04/2008 15:24

I did consider purchasing some sort of snot catcher but I changed my mind in the end!!!

DS2 snored at night until we put him in his own room, now he sleeps so silently you wouldn't know he was there - scares me!! Think they can hear you nce you're there so never go into the deep sleep type thing.

I got weighed this morning and have lost 3.5lbs so feeling very pleased with myself - hmmmm might treat myself to some chocolate!!!

DS1 was over the moon today, at lunch bought in a plateful of cut up fruit which he looked blankly at until I bought the little bowl of melted chocolate!!! Then we just had a little fork each and dipped it all in. Even got him to try a bit of pineapple!!

Mutha - updated yours as well

morningglory · 15/04/2008 16:05

Ooooh! All you good people are making me feel bad that I'm intentionally ignoring the scale, and shoving chocolate and cakes in my mouth constantly. Am I the only one who just can't be bothered to diet just yet?

Snot catcher is great. I got mine at boots, though I haven't really had to use it yet. Funny, I've had 2 bad colds, and baby seems to have escaped (probably due to breastfeeding). They are really great, and better than the method I used with DS1 (held one nostril closed whilst I physically sucked out the other. Gross, yes, but it was the only thing that worked).

DS2 has been sleeping all day (was in the pram all day whilst I ran errands), so I anticipate a wakeful evening...great.

DS2 doesn't snore, but he is the loudest eater I've ever encountered! Snorting, gulping, and gasping through the feed. Hopefully this will change, or he'll never have a date in his life!

He has his first set of injections tomorrow (although I had to call the GP to remind them that he was due!). I'll be curious to see what their scales say. According to the hospital scales (DS had to go to the hospital twice for bloodwork...once because he was still jaundiced at 6 weeks, and another because they didn't take enough blood from him the first time), he had almost doubled his birthweight!

mutha2beagain · 15/04/2008 17:57

Thanks Count for adding me in. Might be adding a pound or two back though as had sticky toffee pud for lunch - whoops.

Good luck with baby jabs tomorrow Morning, hope yours does not bellow too much!!

Maybe I too should consider earplugs Bean - feel a bit foolish that this hadn't occurred to me before!! After all don't want to encourage long term migration to separate sleeping arrangements with DH .. that, as we all know, is the road to ruin!!

missnatalie · 15/04/2008 18:24

Henley had his jab this morning and im now a little worried about him. He's slept since having it at 11am. Woke a few times for about 15mins and absolutly screamed the house down. I tried to give him his bottle but he refused. So his last feed was just before 11am and hes sleeping non-stop. Is this normal?

He was weighed again too and has put on 12oz since last Tuesday !! Gone from 10lb to 10lb 12oz. All this night feeding must be down to him having a growth spurt and needing the extra food.

If anyone can advise if its normal for him to be like this after his jab, id really appreciate it as im getting quite worried now.

alkar · 15/04/2008 18:39

Missnatalie - have you tried taking his temperature?

saskia71 · 15/04/2008 19:05

Alkar ? Thanks for the advice regarding being wee?d upon, I will dress appropriately. Only the other day Marcus possetted on another silk skirt, but this one turned out to be dry clean only.

Mutha2beagin ? I don?t intend to but I will be keeping my options open on the surgery front.

Jaysfinished ? I hope that the operation goes well tomorrow. Will it be done under a general?

Gill ? I?m not b/f.. The surgery is for a previous scar (closing done by a registrar). My consultant left me with a very neat thin caesarean scar which has no overhang.

Morningglory ? No excuse not to, just don a sports bra and avoid high impact work If you love chocolate have you tried Hotel Chocolat? Hubby buys some every Friday and they are sublime. Hope jabs go well.

Today was the first session with personal trainer and it was absolutely brilliant. We did Pilates, lots of strengthening exercises and some cardiovascular work. Marcus slept through his stay at the crèche and only woke up at the end. Have another session booked for tomorrow. Must dash to do feed. Will update list later, current 55kg, and previous 47kg.

missnatalie · 15/04/2008 19:28

Hi, yeah done his temp. 36.8. I just dont know whats wrong with him. Hes just so sleepy

Jaysfinished · 15/04/2008 20:36

Saskia, it wont be done under any anesthetic, apparently there are no nerves there at this point, or very little, so it will be done as he lies there. Then i have to BF him straight away..the whole procedure takes less than a minute.. am not looking forward to it, but i know its for the best.

All you that are losing weight, well done. Am impressed at your dedication. Some of the start weights are my goal weight...that shows how much i have to lose dont know if i am brave enough to start yet....Mutha, i just had sticky toffee pudding and custard....yummmy!

I to have one of those 'snot extractors' its brilliant. LO has had a thick 'sticky' nose since almost day one, i feel really sorry for him, sometimes he cant breath at all and sounds like a pig! I also have the saline drops that i put in first, massaged it round a bit then use the extractor, a few times i have had the BIGGEST result!! euwww - even had to wake up DH to show him!

Missnatalie, have you given calpol? I cant give any advice as my LO's didnt react that way, if you have any concerns i would call the NHS direct line.

Redbush, hows things going?

Hugs to all xx

morningglory · 15/04/2008 20:54

missnatalie: DS1 had a sleepy reaction to his jabs, but not as sleepy as your son's. I agree with calling the NHS direct (they probably will say to give calpol, watch, and call GP if continues tomorrow).

Saskia: Can't do anything with any sort of impact due to a sprained ankle. I know I have to start, and will aim to start next week. I'm not giving up all my treats, just cut down (one treat a day instead of 3). Sigh, I guess I'll add myself to the list...'tis for the best, I know. Don't be surprised if my weight comes off sssllllloooooowwwwlllllyyy - I've never been able to diet, and my weight never seems to budge.

Gill79 · 15/04/2008 23:19

Miss Natalie - have you phoned NHS yet? No doubt just the way he reacts to the jabs but hopefully they were able to reassure you. LO reacted fairly badly to his and it's a bit worrying even if you expect it, isn't it? Calpol chilled him right out but it sounds like you don't need him more chilled at the mo!

Just read your birth story - what a lot to go through..... and it sounds like you have some sad things behind you. Absolutely love the pics though... He's a very cute wee man.

missnatalie · 16/04/2008 10:40

Gill79 - hi sorry only just getting back to you. Yes phoned them and they said to give him 2.5ml of baby paracetamol every 4 hrs. I didnt want to give it him because as you said, he was already very chilled out. Instead he had his bath at 9pm which seemed to wake him up . He had his bottle and then we all went to bed. He got a bit of a temp during the night so gave him one dose of the paracetamol which brought it back down. He then woke for his feeds at 1.30, 4.30 & 7.30. He didnt take as much as normal but at lease he had some. Hes still a bit grouchy today so just gonna keep my eye on him and his temp. The HV is coming later so ill ask her to check him.

Thanks for reading my BS. We both had a terrible time. I think that its the birth and everything that happened afterwards, thats making me feel so down. It really upsets me that i never got to give my baby his first feed, change his first nappy or even give him his first cuddle. It makes me so upset and angry at the same time.

KezzaG · 16/04/2008 11:26

Apologies for crashing your thread everyone, but MissNatalie, I was just looking for you. I have had absolutely no time to get online since Leo was born but I am back at work now so wanted to see how you were doing. congratulations to you!! I havent read much but enough to know you had a hard time so I hope things get better for you both. when you watch him take his first steps, or he says mummy for the first time the trauma of the first few weeks will seem like nothing

KezzaG · 16/04/2008 11:32

OMG I just read your birth story and I now sound really flippant before. you poor thing, it must have been so upsetting not being able to hold him at first. I hope you are through the worst. It brought tears to my eyes reading it!
