Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Egg · 07/04/2008 11:37

EIGHT INCHES !!!!

Wow.

I was thinking, we should prob all do a Monday morning weigh in or something (I forgot to do it though). I have been eating like a horse, and all crap junk food, but have been on exercise bike last Thurs, Sat and yesterday, and will do again today. Nearly finished Easter choc so will start properly in a day or two.

I have never tried proper nappies . I am too lazy.

gingermumi · 07/04/2008 12:04

Hi egg.

My gp has told me to leave fibroid be unless it bothers me (which, since pregnancy it hasn't).In her opinion there's no point in opening me up again unless i'm having problems,. i'm inclined to agree, surgery would be very inconvenient with a lo now!

8 inches is a bit impressive! I don't eat excessively but prob eat wrong stuff. i must start to exercise, am too ashamed to say what i weigh but i think supporting each other is a good idea.

Am going to look at nurseries soon as i have to go back to work in the summer! Work nursey wont confirm i can have a place until october as priority given to students with children whih is useless! feel a bit p*ed off about that - surely having staff that are happy with their childcare is just as important as giveing it to students? Its the same each year apparently so even if i got a place in october i'd have to go through the whole thing again next year - no use at all really. There is a montessori nursery near by which i might try. Any experiences of montessori methods?

Egg · 07/04/2008 12:09

No experience of montessori but have only heard good things from people who have used them. I am v lucky as DS1's nursery is so lovely, the staff are fab, the place is nice, they have a great garden, good food etc etc. It was a complete fluke finding it as only place we looked at AND it is 5 mins walk from house.

Think it is a bit cack that they prioritise students over staff. Would have thought it was other way round if anything, and also crap that you have to reapply, you don't want to be moving nurseries once he is settled somewhere as that is half the battle (getting them settled).

Keep also meaning to ask, how is your DD (DD2 I think??) Ginger, is she eating ok now?

princessllama · 07/04/2008 12:17

gill, i had same as alkar-big probs with tots bots wraps and no prob with airflow motherease popper wraps-huge relief because the leaking gets you down! check out if you get a discount or free ones from your council-lots are doing vouchers at the mo.
thanks for all comments re antibiotics. sally am on same ones as you were on. he is getting more uncomfy with wind but otherwise seems fine. i still feel quite lousy though, big sweats and temperatures and zeppelin boob.
feel like giving myself big pat on back this am. took both lo's out to coffee shop to meet friends with their children. managed to cope when both dd and ferdie started screaming at same time. ok, i shoved f on the boob but it worked and ignoring hope got her to stop screaming for the rest of the croissant long enough to have a semi conversation with the others and drink a hot chocolate. and we hit the playground for half an hour before he kicked off again. v glad to have got dd off to sleep now-feel like i only just coped without massive swearing and crying outburst.
poblet is your lo having the nistatin (sp?)drops in mouth as well for thrush. have you tried probiotic supplements? just more 4am musings whilst i was feeding!
hello cav and missnatalie.
re the meetup i would love to come but don't know if i'll manage it. will do my best.
egg am really glad you got a child free day you really deserve it.
anyone know if you can get ballamory dvd's? my only survival method for 9am feed at mo, otherwise dd is trying to pull ds off my boob.

Egg · 07/04/2008 12:22

Princess I have THREE balamory DVDs. DS1 loves them. You can get them in HMV sometimes quite cheap. Prob have a look on Amazon or something also.

I breathe a sigh of relief when I get DS1 into bed for his nap each lunchtime. He is going through a phase of having to be dragged kicking and screaming up to bed but he always sleeps for ages once there as well as sleeping all night so I know he still needs it. It is sheer hell some days trying to get him into bed, I just thank god I am not pregnant as it was so hard trying to avoid being kicked in the bump.

Have not started hoovering yet. Keep coming back to MN .

Egg · 07/04/2008 12:23

Princess forgot to say WELL DONE for coping in the coffee shop. It is awful when they all cry at once, but I have not experienced when out in public.

gingermumi · 07/04/2008 12:26

Princess glad you're outing went well (i think that counts as well!!). No idea about dvds sorry!

Egg -DD2 is on anti-deps for eating probs, she's much better but still thinks she's fat (she most defnitely isn't) and has 'bad days' when she gets very difficult about eating properly. Mental health weren't much use and referred her to connexions (teenager support and advice) which dd had experience of at school and she didn't feel helped her at all. Basically she isn't bad enough to merit mental helath's help. She is very cross about this as she feels that they didn't belive she had a problem. GP has tried to explain that there are others that are worse not that she was making it up but she is still quite bitter about it. I have offered to pay for counselling but she wont go. We see GP regularly, i'm worried about what will happen when anti-deps are stopped. I don't think she will cope so well then. Still we'll have to wait and see.

Egg · 07/04/2008 12:37

It's shite. Obviously more serious cases are important, but surely best to help your DD2 out before her case becomes more serious??? Ridiculous. At least she is not denying she has a problem, and is accepting help. Don't suppose you have any idea why she is not wanting the counselling you are offering to pay for? She is stunning, and a long way from being fat.

leesmum · 07/04/2008 13:24

Hi everyone have you all had a nice weekend?

Well i'll update the list because i'm chuffed at losing 3lb's, it makes me wonder how much crap i was shovelling down

Leesmum 10.4 target 9.4 lost 3lb now 10.1
Egg 8.7 target 8.3
Beautiful 12.9 target 10.4
Sally 11.8 target 10.7
Alkar 10.10 target 9.7
Gill 9.9 target 8.7

Princess that's rough that you have mastitis, i had 2 lots of anti-biotics since i've had Ds2 and he seems to ok both times.

Egg lucky you having some time to yourself, what are you doing? on MN i guess it can be very addictive on here can't it?

Sarah i'm also having the implant put in next month, so if you have yours done first you'll have to let me know how you get on. Is rosies christening comming up soon, i think we are aiming for the august bank holiday because a lot of our families are scattered all over the country.

Ginger i'm so sad for you seeing your daughter go through this, just try to be there for her and talk about it as much as you can. Big hugs for you both xxx

Ds2 has his second injections next week, he was a bit grumpy in the afternoon after his first lot and he too sreamed the place down, and Ds1 has his 2nd MMR jab on wed's too, he was poorly after the first one and we ended up in hospital because his temperature was 39.8 and would'nt go down, he ended up being ok but it's always best to be on the safe side so we shall be keeping a close eye on him this time round.

Im off now to feed Ds2 again!! i'll be back in a bit to catch up with the other ladies xxx

Gill79 · 07/04/2008 13:42

Alkar I've got some bambino mio wraps from a friend - had a look in mothercare but they don't seem to have any real nappies in our local shop. Will try the motherease one (and get myself organised to get the pack from the council, you need quite a lot of doc evidence to send them though hence the delay)

Cav - DS sleeps wherever he lands in the day - usually bouncy chair or pram or my lap. He goes into the cot only if really sleepy otherwise he'll wake up too soon. BTW last night he slept from 11pm to 7am!!! He was awake for a lot of yesterday though and today he just wants to sleep, suck his dummy or sit on my lap staring at the TV.

In other news DP and I have finally Done The Deed - was a bit scared about the whole thing but felt a bit wierd and lonely last night and really wanted the intimacy- had also been feeling very guilty about the poor man who never complained once about the enforced abstinence. I talked to him finally yesterday about how my horrible tummy is making me feel which I think helped me feel a bit better about doing it, even if I haven't shown him my tummy yet. The skin is really really saggy and wrinkly and hangs down under my tummy button and hasn't really improved at all. I've been searching around MN to see if this is common and doesn't really seem to be, plus both my CMW and registrar at the hospital were unsure whether it would get better and mentioned tummy tuck.... Am coming to terms with no bikinis or crop tops again but would just like to be able to take my clothes off in front of DP which I just can't do. Feel and even quite bitter when I see other mummies with smooth skin. Sorry, gone off on a bit of a tangent.

Egg - happy day off, I hope you are treating yourself to a bit of me time .... step away from that vacuum cleaner!!

Ginger - sorry to hear about your daughter's troubles ... I think teenage girls are under ridiculous pressure in today's society to be slim in ways far worse then when we were growing up in the 70s/80s!! It must be a tough job raising girls these days. I do feel quite relieved that it won't have to be me - I was a teenage nightmare - although I'm sure my boys will put me through my paces when the time comes!! Caught DS1 sniffing my nail varnish remover saying mmm the other day .... scary...

On the weight loss front, I'm pissed off with myself, got down to 9st. 10lb in the last week of BF and I'm now back up to 10st 3. Too many glasses of liquid fat/sugar white wine, he he. Would ideally like to be 9st 7.

Cavs, I agree with Sarah, if your baby is sleeping so beautifully at night maybe it's just easier to go with the flow during the day. A journey in the car or pram always seems to encourage them to nod off and as long as they don't get overtired maybe it's easier to just let her drift off as and when she feels like it rather than try to settle her when she doesn't want to sleep... always a bit of a wind up when they're staring hard up at you with wide open eyes while you're willing them to do the opposite!!

Ginger sounds like your DD has her head screwed on right - at least she's not in denial - hope you can persuade her to see a counsellor though.

Sarah - much respect for your night on the lash. I'll put your survival down to your age though and advise us more elderly ladies to proceed with more caution!

Mutha - do you want to join the weight loss list?

Right MUST get off the computer and wake up my little sleeping angel. Slummy mummy still in pjs eating cold stew on the floor in front of the telly.

mutha2beagain · 07/04/2008 14:02

Gill - count me in on weight loss list!

Egg · 07/04/2008 14:02

Right whole house hoovered, gone through bags and bags of stuff in loft for babies. Realised some is already too small . I put DS1 in "proper" clothes a lot earlier. Can't be a**ed with these two. If they were having a bath every evening before bed it makes more sense, but as they don't, I really don't want to have to be changing them from "day" clothes to sleepsuits as well as trying to get everything else done in the evening so it is sleepsuits all the way except for special occasions!

Gill v sad about your tummy. I feel a bit self conscious of my naked bod in front of DH but my tummy is ok, just a bit more wobbly than before (tis my boobs I don't like, as they shrank to nothing after bf-ing DS1 and never came back), I am presuming your tummy is because you had a c-section so harder for it to go back to "normal". Glad you bit the bullet and got down to the deed now, am sure DP was just delighted to be "allowed" and doesn't care at all what your tummy is like! My DH is also quite uncomplaining about lack of activity (only once since DTs were born, in fact only once since last OCTOBER ).

Right, am taping Neighbours so now off to get on exercise bike before I lose my energy. Should then be able to sit and relax from 2:30-4:30pm. Hurrah!

Wonder how babies are getting on .

gingermumi · 07/04/2008 14:46

thanks for support over dd2. i don't know why she wont see a counsellor, i think she thinks talking wont help. i'd like her to go for cbt but at the moment, again she wont agree. doc has recommended moodgym - on line self-help. she has written it on her notice board so i'm hoping she will/has accessed it. i have to play it very carefully otherwise she just closes off. it cab be quite stressfuk tho, i realised earlier how much easier it had been last week when she was away on work placement- when i could cook a meal without worrying about if it was something she would 'fancy', whether she would be in at meal time etc.

lol at slummy mummy! i have only just got dressed too gill and that was to go to the shop to buy a mars bar and a paper! i have hoovered up tho so i needed the energy from the sugar!!!!

well done leesmum, will weigh myself tomorrow and if it's not too bad i'll add myself too!

gill, my tummy is horrible too, dh says he doesn't notice but i'm sure he's just being nice. i don't have much in the way of stretch marks but my tummy skin/fat hangs over the csect scar. i do't know how to change this as the area is numb i don't think exercise would help (but i haven't tried). i'm so happy to have my lo i try not to think about it. it does get me down sometimes, i think more about my age tho, i wish i was younger!

beansprout · 07/04/2008 15:17

Gingermumi - sorry to hear about dd2. I was bulimic for years and it's a difficult business. Your love and support are invaluable and the recognition that she is having problems is fantastic - so many families (inc. mine) just want to brush this stuff under the carpet. I wish her well.

Gill - lol at your nappy antics!

I am another one who has a fairly settled night time pattern and a blardy mess during the day.

Egg- hope your child free day is going well!!

Hi to everyone else!

Oh and London meet up people, we are edging towards the 22nd - everyone welcome. Please let us know if you want to come!!

Egg · 07/04/2008 15:55

Beany have you LOST FOUR POUNDS ALREADY????

Wow [impressed].

Feel I have wasted my child-free day by being mainly busy and mainly doing chores. However I would feel I had wasted it even more if I had done nothing.

Have actually achieved quite a bit today, so feel quite happy. Only an hour left of being childless. Am actually missing the DTs. I know that sounds harsh, I love them to bits, but thought I would love EVERY minute of them being at nursery, but instead I keep thinking of their little smiley faces and want to go and peek at them! Looking forward to next Monday already though .

Perhaps I ought to tell DH soon .

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 07/04/2008 16:13

Gill- think you cuold be right about my age aiding my lack of hangover- my 2 frieds who were both 29 on sat suffered all day lol

alkar · 07/04/2008 16:55

Lost 8 inches but only weigh 1lb less have just been bad and ate 1/2 a tub of haagen dazs. I really want sweet stuff when I know I can't have any!

Same here with the tummy problems - I think it takes longer to lose when you've had a section. My stomach is still very numb and weird to touch, can't stand to dry it with a towel when I get out of the shower.

Alkar - I have that horrible numb yet very sensitive feeling too. Eugh.

Oh good, Carrie and David's Plop Shop is on...

rozzyraspberry · 07/04/2008 20:05

Hi all!

First off congratulations to those of you who've lost weight! I am adding myself to the list as today was my first day of cutting the crap from my diet. Treadmill arrives tomorrow so fingers crossed the fat will start to come off. I found it so easy to lose the weight after ds1 and ds2 but it's just not happening this time around. The weights not just on my tummy either - I've got a fat ass and thunder thighs to boot!

I hate my tummy too. I've never had a section but my skin is prone to stretch marks so you can imagine what it looks like after 3 babies. I don't really like DH touching it but he doesn't really care. I don't think most decent men would care as you've carried their babies after all.

Ginger - that must be a real worry about your dd2. She does seem to acknowledge she has issues though which must be a start? It's funny how we think kids get easier as they get older but in actual fact I think it's probably more of a worry as they get older and you have less influence over what they do.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do about contraception yet. Don't really fancy going back on the pill again but not ready to do anything permanent yet either. I'm going to make an appointment with the family planning clinic at my surgery. We're using condoms at the moment but wouldn't want to rely on that long term.

Hope you enjoyed your day Egg! How did the babies get on? I know what you mean about running around doing stuff when you're on your own. DH took all 3 boys for a walk last week and I ran around cleaning the entire time they were out. Within 24hrs the house was a complete tip again - don't know why I bother

Cav - my lo is like yours (with the daytime sleep not nighttime - am very ). If you put him down for a nap awake he just screams and screams. If you put him down asleep he's awake within 5 minutes. So it's the sling or on my lap or in car seat or buggy if we're out. I've actually found he sleeps better outside so was putting him in the buggy and taking him outside with me whilst the older 2 were out in the garden playing when the weather was nice last week.

I agree with you Gill I think I would have to be a bit more cautious with the alcohol. Haven't really been much of a drinker since we had the kids and really couldn't cope with the 3 of them with a hangover! Did have a glass of wine at the weekend though which was VERY nice but didn't want ds3 to get drunk so stuck to one.

Wish I could come and meet up with you all but think I'm a tad far away!!

Went to get ds1 and ds2 feet measured today and had to get both of them new shoes - £58 for both of them - it's so expensive!!

I've booked into a baby massage course which my local surgery runs. It runs for 5 one hour sessions and only costs £1 for the entire course. So we'll see how that is but it will be nice to get some time with just me and the lo.

Sorry for the long post! Am off to watch tv without my normal pile of junk food - I do have a kiwi and a plum though - yipee!

leesmum · 07/04/2008 20:07

Well done ladies on the first weigh-in, i did do better than i thought i would but am well aware that next week it might be just 1lb, i suppose as long as i don't put any weight on then i'll be happy

The boys are both asleep now and i could just do with some of Ds1's white choc egg to go with my cup of tea but i won't spoil a good day.

I'm afraid it'll be a while before Dp see's me fully naked again, i must admit that even before i had my babies i was never one for strolling around the house with nothing on, even when i was very slim and toned i think i've always been a bit self conscious about my body.

Sarah i agree with Gill, i used to booze all weekend and mix my drinks terribly, but i'd still get up in the morning, now i can't even stay awake past 10 and if i do go out i'm on the lookout for a comfy chair near the bar and loo's..lol
