I am posting from my bed for the first time ever. I took a turn for the worse on Sunday and I have never been so ill in my life, if I didn't know it was mastitis I would have thought it was meningitis. I shook for 24 hours, felt like there was an axe in my head and spears in my legs and there were dark red lines on my breast going into my armpit. I was crawling round the house looking for the AB's yesterday tea-time and everything was yellow like I was looking through a film.

Anyway, feel a bit better today despite falling down the stairs carrying Lo.

Happy New year to you all

Congrats Dragon!

eandh · 01/01/2008 11:02

Oh Mrs C that sounds awful did you manage to get any anti b's?? Glad you are feeling a bit better today make sure you take it easy

OP posts:
MrsCarrot · 01/01/2008 11:07

It was awful, EAH, I couldn't find the ones that I had when I didn't take them before. DH says I was crawling around wailing. I have never felt so ill and the surgery had just closed and being new years eve I panicked. Out of hours doctor faxed a prescription the chemist in the end, lucky they were still open. I do feel a bit better today but DH is back to work in the morning so I will try to rest as much as I can.

I am itching to tidy up and take down the Christmas stuff though, silly isn't it. Like I said, I fell down the stairs when I got up so I am in bed again now. I feel cross, and bad that dh hilday has been spent looking after me.

eandh · 01/01/2008 11:10

in a way it was good that dh was on holiday to help you out, thank god the pharmacy hadnt shut, hope 2008 is a mastitis free year for you

laughalot · 01/01/2008 13:51

Happy new year everybody

Mrsc that sounds bloody awful you take care of yourself.

Well the birthdays are coming round so quickly now I cant believe they will be 1.

Cant chat need to strip wallpaper we are doing laurens room for her birthday.

2HappyNewYear · 01/01/2008 13:58

OMG MrsC that sounds so awful. Glad you feel a little better but so you've been so unwell. Really grim.

Dragonhart · 01/01/2008 19:13

Carrot- That sounds really really awful. Hope you feel ok when DH goes back. I can sympathise with the falling down the stairs as I did it this morning from the top to the bottom but luckily with out Ruth or Luke. I ache all over, loads of bruises and carpet burns. Hope lo is ok. xxx

Impresive party EAH! I am avoiding it as long as I can and only having a family one. Will bake the now traditional chocolate cake for her, although unlike Luke it wont be her first taste of chocolate as she scoffed loads over christmas! She has also had a runny egg (which she loved!) DH laughs at the idea that one day their stomach cant handle runny egg yoke/cows milk ect then the second they turn one it is ok, but I do feel like she is getting second child syndrome as I would never have done it with Luke!

LadyTophamHatt · 01/01/2008 20:47

blimmy MrsC, I didn't even realise mastitus could be that bad. you poor thing....stop with the being cross with yourself though, you'd look after DH if he was ill wouldn't you?

I've done absolutley nothing today. DH wentto work at 4pm after doing all the housewrok because after not getting to bed until 2am then getting up with ds4 at 6:20am I was vitually dead all day. Normal staying "up too late" tiredness is soooo differnet to "having a newborn" tiredness isn't it?

just going to get the last of the LTH brood to bed then I'm going to retire to the sofa.

Oh actually, have any of you changed to cowsmilk already? Ds4 has been having the odd bottle but seems to drink less of it then formula. He isn't turning his nose up at it but I wonder if its more filling/thicker the formula? The big dssses just changed without any trouble so thi sis a new one on me.

Wilkie · 01/01/2008 21:13

Happy New Year

MrsC - god poor you

EAH - can I come to the party??

J better after a really bad day yesterday bless him He slept 20 hours out of 24 and seems brighter today. I think it was full blown man flu for my minature man

DH and I have agreed to put house on market in 4 weeks! Eek. Am excited now. I LURVE moving house

DH ....Thats wonderful news

PCF ... thats very sad. 60 is no age is it. Best wishes to all your family.

Mrs C . I dont know how you are coping. I've had mastitis 2 maybe 3 times. The first time was horrendous and I felt really really ill. DD was a toddler and I sat her in front of the TV for hours until DH came home. The AS's soon kick in though.

I think I might stop the BF very soon. DS2 has started to bite quite a lot and it really hurts. I've been feeding him day and night, so I might try to cut down in the day and see how it goes.

Lizz... I challenge you to a duet ... singstar is my fave game too, although DD has high school musical on all the time and its a bit grating .......

Happy Birthday to all these little ones.... oh I wish it could be christmas all over again... it was sooo lovely.

MrsCarrot · 02/01/2008 10:48

sorry to hear that about your Aunt, PCF, and hope Max's teeth settle down too.

Have just been to the gp to check it's clearing up as it should and she said it sounded like I was septiceamic and probably would have ended up in hospital having an abcess drained and that people did used to die of these things before Ab's. I could only just keep them down due to the nausea so thank god I took them when I did or it might have been an AB drip.

It's gorgeous and sunny here though they predicted snow. It's the first day I've felt like going out for a big family walk, now DH is back at work. Oh well.

MrsCarrot · 02/01/2008 10:51

Kat - this was the 7th time! Though obviously the worst. I am going to start cutting down feeds too, he doesn't do very well with dairy though so he has had a cup of rice milk yestarday and today and seems to like it.

katwith3kittens · 02/01/2008 11:00

Just a word of warning about rice milk though (tell me to but out if you want ) my bf gave her 2 DDs rice milk as she didnt want them to have dairy due to family dietary problems, and they both now have 3 or 4 fillings each and they are 7 and 10 . She didnt give her 3rd rice milk, Its very sweet, so make sure you clean his teeth well afterwards.

MrsCarrot · 02/01/2008 11:36

It is sweet isn't it, do you think it's sweeter than breast milk or is it a different kind of sugar?

LadyTophamHatt · 02/01/2008 18:33

Kat, ds1 has fillings and he's never had rice milk, just to throw a spanner in the wroks for you.

I think some teeth are more prone to decay because ds2 hasn't got any sign of fillings at 6, ds1 had them buy then

trixymalixmasy · 02/01/2008 18:55

Hello everyone!!

Merry xmas and happy new year to you all!!

Happy Birthday to all the LOs.

Mrs C - hope you are feeling better now, that sounds horrendous.

eandh · 02/01/2008 19:30

Evening - teeth are funny things my brother has had fillings since he was 9 or 10 I have never ever had a single filling obviously we were fed the same thing, my Mum was very strict about cleaning teeth etc so not sure why he has them and I dont.

My brother and fiancee have asked me to help organise their wedding as they are very very disorganised people and well you know me so I can start getting together new files, brochures etc just to give them ideas and they have asked the girls to be bridesmaids which Ellie is so excited about (although she was very specific that she wanted a pink dress )

LTH - cows milk Hattie has less cows milk tan she ever had formula but she eats loads so dont think she is hungry at bedtime so often only has 4/5oz however she has milk when she wakes up and downs 6/7oz.

Trixy - nice to 'see' you how are things?

Wilkie - of course you and J can come its 12-2 so if you leave around 7am you may get here on time

LAL - any luck with the duvet set yet?

2happy - hows the toothache?

UD - you around or still unpacking in case in miss you before Saturday Happy Birthday Zac (and to DH Ruth and Nemo Chloe)

Love2dance - Hope Gabriel has a fantastic bday tomorrow

Dragonhart · 02/01/2008 19:37

Pink- Sorry about your Aunt. Thanks for asking about my tumble down the stairs. I am pretty bruised as it was quite a bad fall. DH wanted me to go to A&E but I hate hospitals and I knew nothing was broken. If something were to happen to the baby, there is nothing they could do I suppose either. All seems fine today apart from walking and feeling like an old lady.

Carrot- That sounds very scary. Good job you got hold of some ABs! Hope you arent to sore after your fall either. I am sure that I read somewhere that you can get a virus/bacteria that makes you more prone to Mastitis. Maybe on one of the feeding threads? Sorry not much detail but might be worth looking into. I think I also read about it in Jools Oliver's book about having her kids. She had all sorts of tests I think.

Dragonhart · 02/01/2008 19:42

EAH- Sounds fun. Do you get on well with SIL to be? Hope she like pink!

eandh · 02/01/2008 19:47

Yep we get on really really well and I often have nephew here to give her a break (her only family is her Mum and brother and they live in London) she is alays offering to have the girls for me but I feel guilty palming my 2 off onto her. She has just text to say she was looking on internet and found some gorgeous white dresses with pink sashes and pink bolero jackets (apparently my brother has said he doesnt mind a pink theme )

Glad you are feeling ok DH and sorry PCF I forgot to offer my condolences about your aunt

OP posts:
2HappyNewYear · 02/01/2008 19:57

Hi everyone

DH - hope you feel less sore tomorrow
love2dance - happy birthday Gabriel tomorrow
Trixy - hullooooooo! Nice to hear from you.
MrsC - glad you're feeling a bit better, really hope you keep improving. ds2 is on 3 bfeeds a day still, though went back to feeding at nights just before Christmas . I've never given him cow's milk to drink, though he's had it on cereal etc.
PCF - hope you're feeling ok and your family get some answers
Teeth - my mum got us fisher's fillings (?) which were protective layers over the top of normal molars and none of us has ever had a filling. I don't know if they do them any more. My wisdom teeth is boringly still bloody sore. There clearly isn't enough space for it to come through so I'm going to have to have a tooth taken out, but really don't fancy it so am being a coward and stuffing myself full of painkillers and hoping it'll stop pushing again for a few months! Stooopid things.
kw3 - is ds2 teething? ds2 always bites me when teething, then stops when the tooth's through. Mind you, ds1 was just a biter full stop. Veeery annoying.
LTH - hope you have a quiet evening
eandh - wow, the party sounds great! My parents are going to be away for ds2's birthday, they wouldn't have dreamed of it for ds1's birthday...poor second son!!

We were at my parent's today. Both sisters were there with dh's and kids, plus my granparents and my aunt. Very noisy! Both ds1 and his cousin (the 2 toddlers) got totally overtired and were both tantruming by the end, my other sister (who only has a baby) was laughing - ha! she'll laugh on the other side of her face when her PFB's a toddler [evil]

laughalot · 02/01/2008 20:03

I feel devestated my dad has just rung to say he has been at hospital today as he has got something wrong with his heart they dont know what as the are struggling to find the problem but one of the things is its beating wrong. They have given him 15 tablets to take today one of them being [sp] wafrin. I am so upset I cant stop crying, he told me not to panic but thats easier said than done. He has to go back in the morning and also friday im gutted x
