my lo is only just (today ) going INTO his 3-6 sleepsuits/vest!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 27/11/2007 11:29

Morning folks,

my2weegirls, ooh, sounds like your (not so little) one is going to be tall, are you tall?

Tasha, it must be hard with ds2 teething and ds3 a virtual newborn. When did ds2 start teething? I have no idea how long it lasts... Hopefully not too long though, seemed like James was in a lot of pain last night.

I'm still sterilising bottles but I don't sterilise his dummies/teething toys everytime, I just give them a quick scrub usually. I can't ring myself to pick them up off the floor and give them back to him, but that's because our floors are never that clean. Not looking forward to him crawling. I'll do my best to keep the floors clean then but I'm guaranteed to find him sitting in the corner chewing a dust bunny or an old hairy fruit pastille or something.

Conkertree it does help to know we're pretty much all in the same boat, doesn't it?

Well, dp has gone off to work with all my slimming world info in the boot of his car so I'm winging it today. Not sure if we're speaking since I shouted at him to turn his alarms off this morning before they woke J up and he went bananas. (I only shouted because yesterday his alarms were going off from 6am til 6.45am, and I didn't want a repeat performance)

It's frustrating because he KNOWS he'll only get up on the very last alarm at 6.45am so what's the point in all the other alarms other than to annoy me and wake James up? I was really pissed off by the time he got up- he can just sleep through them all quite happily, selfish bastard.

tasha21 · 27/11/2007 11:46

lo is 50cm, and ds2 was 52 when he was born.
james- ds2 started teething quite late about 5months but ds1 had his first tooth at three months and all of his teeth by 12months ds2 only has his front teeth, so funny when he is trying to chew a sausage lol. but the good thing is you seem to get a break inbetween each tooth so its not non stop teething, but i think the thing that cut ds1s first tooth was bicky pegs, has anyone tried them, he loved chewing on them and think it was the day after i got them he got his first tooth

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 27/11/2007 11:55

Well, I was thinking about trying bickipegs ut the packet says 6 months and over, and (being a fusspot, I know) I don't really want his first food to be a biscuit. Last night I tried to cool ds's sore gums with a piece of chilled cucmber and he made a real "yuck" face, so I'll stick to letting him chew on my clean finger for now.

Want to get that bonjela finger thing someone mentioned- need to get to asda to get my bounty pack!

tasha21 · 27/11/2007 11:57

yea i suppose ds1 was starting on solids then.

My2Weegirls · 27/11/2007 12:31

james - i'm about 5ft 7 and Dp is 6ft something so i would say we're both average.

frozen raw carrots cut into fingers shapes are good for chewing on too - the teething phase is all ocming back to me now - dd1's first tooth came through at 6minths, and she then had 8 by the time she was 8 motnhs old - arrrgh really hope this one is not the same!!!

GillL · 27/11/2007 13:14

It's fine thanks M2Weegirls. I thought I would be quite depressed about it but I'm ok. Not sure if it's just because it's a change of scenery and I'm back with my friends here. I'm sure the novelty will wear off soon but I'll be looking for a new job in the new year.

Ds is 15 weeks tomorrow and is his 3-6 babygrows are getting too short. I much prefer pyjamas anyway so I'll start putting him in those instead. I've always found they grow out of the babygrows and vest sooner than everything else.

I tried bickipegs with dd but she really wasn't that interested. Try the Ashton and Parson's teething powders. They're supposed to help with most teething symptoms. You can get them in Boots.

conkertree · 27/11/2007 13:20

might be a stupid question but what do you do with the granules? do you rub them on the gums?

conkertree · 27/11/2007 13:21

i mean the powders.

took our new running buggy out for its first run today - ds absolutely loves it. he's facing out in it and still facing me in his normal buggy so maybe i should turn the seat round cause he gets so excited.

waiting in for a mothercare delivery with his cot - have been waiting for it for a week now so getting a bit sick of it not arriving (havent waited in all that time)

tasha21 · 27/11/2007 13:44

yea i tried the powders too lol think i tried everything but they were good aswell, they come in sachets and you just emty one into los mouth and they do the rest by rubbing it on their gums with their tounge

shrinkingsagpuss · 27/11/2007 16:00

james - look at a current thread about flat headed babies...... you were worried about James being on his back too much weren't you..... cant' do links got baby on lap.

OP posts:
lizziemun · 27/11/2007 17:11

James you can get rattle type thingy's (tech term ) which you can put in the fridge to cool babies gums.

these things

"look at teething thingy'swww.boots.com/shop/product_details.jsp?productid=1071756&classificationid=1042457"

Has anyone else noticed a August 2008 thread today.

Hersetta · 27/11/2007 17:35

Wow a August '08 thread already. How time flies.

DD is currently watching Thomas and friends with DH (he is definitely enjoying it more) but she is making lots of ooh's and aahhh sounds so i have the computer to myself for 10 mins.

Can I ask how much in total your LO's drink a day as I'm a bit worried if Cait is getting enough. She has dropped back down to 4 hourly feeds after two weeks of every 3 hours and takes roughly 7-8oz at each feed. She is still sleeping well (from 10pm till 8am). I guess if she was hungry she would wake in the night but she is so mellow she rarely cries even for food at the moment.

Last night he was so exhausted she went to bed at 9pm after an 8.00 bottle. I got her up at 11pm and did our first successful dream feed. She never even opened her eyes and took 4oz. She then slept through to 8am. Do you think that 28-30oz per day is OK?

lizziemun · 27/11/2007 17:47

I don't know how much they should be haaving Lexie is only having 5 to 6oz's every 4hours although being 13lb's.

She has her last bottle about 6.30pm and she sleeps through to between 6.30am to 7.30am only waking once between 3.30am and 4.30am.

mamamila · 27/11/2007 17:49

hello everyone,

banana- jeez can I just say I'M annoyed at your dp for that bloody alarm stuff!! I remember you complaining about it through your pregnancy and in the early newborn days. Enuffs enuff! He has to take responsibility for waking up for work, you must have the patience of a saint. I'd go beserk if dp woke me and Mila like that each morning.

Gill- hope the transition back to work gets easier. it must be brilliant having your mum take care of the kids

Are the babies really teething? Mila's dribbly and chewing fingers but I don't know why I thought teeth were months away..

We had to drive to town today, an hours drive across the island. The aircon in car died and it's so so hot and humid right now. Mila cried/ screamed almost whole return journey. She just hates the car and cries as soon as she sees the car seat.

Tomorrow we're doing the vaccination run.

Has anyone bought a bumbo seat? All the other gimmicky things have proven brilliant so I'm tempted to go for it

tasha21 · 27/11/2007 18:26

o i want a bumbo seat ive been looking at them on ebay.
my lo is also going for injections tomorrow only i just have to walk across the road.
Hersetta- was just looking at the back of lo's SMA tin and they have put some guidlines for different weights ill type it out for you
they have 14lb1/4 - 5 - 7oz feeds in 24hours
if that makes sense
and have just realised that my lo is taking exactly wat he should and there was me thinking he should be taking more.
ds2 has been non stop crying today, really clingy cant wait for them to go to bed but havent even got dinner done yet. theres lo waking talk to ya later

mamamila · 27/11/2007 19:30

found brilliant way to keep baby happy while i shower, i lay her near to the laptop with itunes on visualiser she loves all the psychadelic colours and patterns

this laughing baby is so funny, keep finding new ways to make her chuckle, only manage to get a really good and loud one out of her a couple of times a day! today's trick was pinching her bum after her bath and playing 'boo' when she was in the tummytub. she also gives a big chuckle when she's falling asleep in the evening

it's so cool now she has more head control and is loving the sling facing out, i never thought i'd be a 'baby facing outwards' sling wearer but anything for the wee lassie. dp loves the sling so much i have to pack it away sometimes or she'd never be anywhere else

Hersetta · 27/11/2007 19:46

My Lo is 13.5lbs at 12 weeks. My aptimil tub says 5 feeds of 7oz too, but she eats at 8am, midday, 4pm and 8pm and is asleep after that. I think I'll continue with the dream feed at around 11pm even if she only takes 4oz.
Feel better though knowing your Lo Lizziemum is taking roughly the same.

I have a bumbo (bought it at an NCT nearly new sale for 10 pounds) but haven't used it yet as DD is a bit young and hasn't got full control over her head yet. She can hold it up but it's a bit wobbly when she tries to move it in any direction.

Mamamila, hope your jab trips gos better than the last one. Baby chuckles are so cute aren't they? I was just bouncing Cait on my kness facing me singing one man went to moe and she was peeling with laughter. She also likes the hokey cokey went I amchanging her nappy.

mamamila · 27/11/2007 20:08

hi hersetta,

oohhh the hokey cokey, thanks for reminding me! mila loves heads, shoulders, knees n toes too. I think i'll have to buy or download some nursery rhyme cds as realise i've forgotten most of words.

shrinkingsagpuss · 27/11/2007 20:43

I am soo jealous - 10pm til 8am?

We are only managing 10.30 til 4 or 5am. grrrrrrrr

OP posts:
JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 27/11/2007 23:15

haha, I know what you mean about not remembering any nursery rhymes, I end up singing Jingle Bells to him almost every time! Dp can make J really chuckle with peekaboo and tickle games, he doesn't laugh as much with me, he just smiles a lot and gazes lovingly at me. Bless. (I love this stage!!)

Can't find that flat head thread for the life of me sagpuss, sorry! what was the gist of it?

I have ashton and parsons powders somewhere, we were trying to find them earlier when J was screaming but they've disappeared. Typical! James was "frothing" at the mouth earlier- I think Tasha said on another thread that it was a classic sign of teething.

Lizzie, we do have a couple of teething ring toys, but James doesn't like them yet, seems to find them too heavy to hold for long, and when he does hold them successfully he only manages to jab them at his face which makes him cry (my adorable little thicko!)

Hersetta, your lo's feeding sounds good, J is only just starting to have 7oz now, but he's feeding more like every 3 hours at the moment- I'm waiting for it to space back out to 4.

Well, I'm at the end of my first slimming world day and it's gone ok, had cereal and fruit for breakfast, veg omlette for lunch and veg soup bulked out with pasta for dinner, and a couple of jaffa cakes/more fruit for snacks. Not bad for me, but I bet I'll be craving chocolate and hot buttery toast by the end of the week. Must fight temptation!!!

tasha21 · 27/11/2007 23:59

i dont know how you do it, i just dont have the energy to exercise and def no will power to cut out chocolate but will have to in the end, think ill leave it till after christmas.
well off to bed ill check in tomorrow after injections. good luck with yours Mamamila.
nite everyone

lizziemun · 28/11/2007 08:36

Hersetta Lexie was 13lb at 10 weeks.

If you read the tin it goes on weight or age so i am thinking although she is the weight for 7oz she is not 4mths (as per cow & Gate) iykwim.

James Lexie keeps waking herself up or stopping herself going sleep because keeps sticking her finger in her eye she has just found her hands .

She slept from 7pm to 5am last night i gave her her dummy and she went back to sleep until 6.30am Lizzie didn't do that until she was nearly 2yrs old.

Tasha21 i'm with you i am going to wait until after christmas before i start my diet. I have lost the weight i put on with Lexie I just need to lose the weight i put on when I was pregnant with Lizzie.

GillL · 28/11/2007 09:09

Thanks mamamila. It's lovely having mum to look after the kids. It means I don't have to worry about them while I'm at work.

I would recommend a bumbo for anyone with a clingy baby. It was a godsend with dd as she would cry every time I left the room. I used to keep it in the bathroom so I didn't have to listen to her crying when I went to the toilet. This was before she could sit up properly by herself.

Hersetta - ds is between 15 and 16lb now and takes 5 bottles of 7oz between 6:30am and 8pm. He finishes probably 1 bottle a day and normally leaves 1 or 2 ounces in each bottle. He sleeps from 8:30pm til 6:30am. If he wakes in the night the dummy puts him back to sleep. It sounds like Caitlin is having enough.

Good for you James with the diet. I'm still plodding on with mine, although I didn't lose anything last week. Dh is picking the kids up tonight so I can go straight home to exercise. Otherwise I would only get to do it at the weekend. I'm the same as you Lizzie - lost the weight from ds's pg but not dd's. Still got about a stone and a half to lose. I'm determined to do it this time.

I wish ds would laugh. He still only laughs occasionally and only dh has managed to get him to laugh too. Any tips?

My2Weegirls · 28/11/2007 09:20

bumbo's are great! DD1 loved it and DD2 does too - would recommend them....

oh need to go.....
